Configuring the JDI / Java Development Infrastructure

Hello,
i know there are a lot of matters in help.sap.com but it is very confusing for me:
I want to configure our development infrastructure for test purposes. We have three workplaces for developers and one testserver with WAS JAVA (+ABAP) 6.40. I want to use Scenario 2 with all Components of the Infrastructure (CBS, DTR, CMS, SLD).
Can you give me hints, where to have a look at and how to start reasonable?
Thanks for help or advices,
André

Hello André,
The guide you need is to be found in the SAP Service Marketplace, Quicklink "instguidesnw04" (http://service.sap.com/instguidesnw04) -> Installation
-> DevEnv -> Installation Guide SAP NetWeaver JDI. Here installation and configuration of the JDI are described. By the way - the development scenarios using the complete JDI are scenarios 2+ and 3. Scenario 2 wasn't using CBS and CMS, but seperate tools to create development configurations and perform the component build afterwards. This scenario 2 was declared a demo scenario and is now no longer recommended, because it's only little more effort to configure CMS, CBS and SLD - as you choose - but doing this then gives you much better insight into the productive use of the SAP NetWeaver JDI (this will be reflected in the next documentation update).
Once you have installed and configured the SAP NetWeaver JDI you'll find tutorials for all development scenarios using the JDI in the SAP Help Portal under http://help.sap.com
-> Documentation --> SAP NetWeaver --> SAP NetWeaver '04 -->  Getting Started – Development Infrastructure.

  • Source Code Control for Java development in 6.20

I am new to Java development. How do you control source code (versioning/transport) for Java development with the base R/3 is 6.20. I believe Java Development Infrastructure (JDI) is only available in 6.40. Is this the correct statement? Anyone that has work on 6.40 with Java can explain?
Let say we have this setup:
    Applications are in 6.20
    Portal will be EP 6.0
Do we need Web AS 6.40 to develop Java for Portal with base R/3 of 6.20. Or we can use Developer Studio to create Java accessing R/3 6.20 and display in Portal 6.0. If this is the case, how do you manage transport is you are not using JDI in 6.40.

    Hi Nablan,
I believe you are development J2EE applications. JDI only runs with WebAS 6.40 which supports J2EE spec. 1.3. The developed J2EE archive will not be able to deploy to WebAS 6.20 which only supports J2EE 1.2 spec. So if you want to deploy the created software build from JDI and deploy it to WebAS 6.20, then the answer is unfortunately no.
But, if you just want the Portal be able to display your application in an iView inside, then maybe you can just develop and deploy your application to the WebAS 6.40 system. Then create an iView in your EP to point to the app in the 6.40 system. That way your app will not need to deploy to WebAS 6.20.

  • The Best Java Web Services Technology for Developing Web Services

    Hi,
I am new to Web services world.
I read the java web services page . there are more than 6 technologies.
    JAX-WS,
    JAX-RPC,
    JAXB,
    SAAJ,
    JAXP,
    WSIT,
    XWS-Security
I went through several documents on web services.
I could not get a clear idea of which technolgy to use.
Which Java web service technology will be the best to develop web services independant of language, platform.
or is there any 3rd party implemetations available ? for rapid development of web services.
    Could anyone help me !.
    Thanks in advance.

Which Java web service technology will be the best
to develop web services independant of language,
    platform.
Java by nature is a cross-platform language, so if your focus is on the need for portability, the choisce of WS should not be a problem. However, each WS is best suited for paricular uses.
SAAJ, a low-level level API, offers much simplicity, but is not the first choice for programmers, as SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol)messages need to be constructed piece by piece, making it a quite arduous code to program.
If you are not familiar with XML, your best bet would be to use JAX-RPC (Java API for XML-Remote Procedure Calls), as it hides the underlying detail from the programmer, in terms of SOAP and XML. The shortcoming with RPC-based WS is that it is "restricted to the local programming experience". Another failing is that assumes there is a network path- a reliability concern.
If your program will be contacting other services during downtimes, unlike JAX-RPC, JAXM is quite useful. However, your listing did not mention it, so I wont cover it.
JAXR is a client-side only API that acts as an interface between registries (not referring to JAXP)
I am not famiiar with JAXB, JAXP, WSIT or XWS-Security..
or is there any 3rd party implemetations available ?It depends on what platform you are used to. Assuming you are familiarized with the J2EE platform (now changed to Java EE SDK), the NetBeans IDE (either 5.5, 5.5.1 or the latest editiion) is quite useful. I am using 5.5.1, but have found that it is quite buggy, especially when adding WS operations, a core requirement of a WS. if you will be using to devlop a service for an immediate need, you may find the learning curve to be a bit high, in terms of getting to grips with how to use it. (Download link:
    http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/index.php)
The IBM Autonomic IDE (or AIDE), based on the WSDM standard, includes 3 sub-tools, icluding the IBM Manageability Endpoint Builder which, according to their website, allows individuals to build endpoints to allow manageability interface exposure; Manageable Resource Browser and the IBM Manageability Endpoint Simulator. However, I'm not familiar with this IDE. (Download link: http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/aide/download)
The .NET Framework uses the Visual Studio IDE. For an unbiased comparison of J2EE and the .NET Framework in terms of WS, see http://www.webservicesarchitect.com/content/articles/hanson01.asp.
Apache Axis2, Geronimo and JiBX allows fast development of WS, or so the creators profess.
The PHP environment- you could try NuSPHERE PHPed. According to one website, with it you can develop a web service in under an hour.
I hope this was useful to you.

  • How do I install and configure the Java Access Bridge?

I've just installed the Oracle 9i database on this Windows 2000
Pro box with a view to learn what there is to learn about
Oracle. I need to install the Java Access Bridge so that I can
access the Oracle applications. I use a screen reader called
    JAWS from Freedom Scientific.
Can anyone please tell me how to install the necessary Access
Bridge components and how to configure things accordingly so
that adaptive software will work correctly with the Oracle
    applications.

You can do all the networking stuff you need by setting a "bridged" adapter in the VM setup, then configure a valid IP in your guest OS, probably using the same gateway and name servers similar to your host OS.
If you you cannot use a bridged mode adapter because your host network does not support another network card, you can configure a NAT and a host-only adapter in the VM setup as following:
When you configure the network device that corresponds to the NAT device on the on the guest side, set it up to obtain the IP address via DHCP. The NAT device is for outgoing connections to the internet only. VBox will not provide any routing from the outside network to interface behind a NAT device, only via it's own internal DHCP routing.
The host-only adapter is only good for connection between the host and the VM guest. It is primarily designed to provide DHCP like the NAT interface, but does allow a manual configuration, by customizing the "vboxnet0" configuration in the Vbox Network preferences. By default, the IP address range 192.168.56.1 to 192.168.56.100 can be used for manual IP configurations.
It was not mentioned in your requirements, but you need a bridged mode adapter if you want to connect to your guest VM from any other machine beside your host system, e.g. local LAN.

  • Where to find out the log file under java developer role

    Hi,
I have some application created in NWDS. While running it after the PAR deployment and all. some exception is thrown. the exception iD is given.  I was trying to find out wher the log files are located in the portal so that I can analyze the exception.
I think it is under the java developer role....but under that......I checked the log viewer tool and all.....but exactly where the log files would be located. so that with the exception ID , I can search and find out the log for the particular exception.
    any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Steelman,
Use the search option in log viewer for this purpose. In the server it would be located in
    <i>usr/sap/sid/jc00/cluster/server0/logs</i>
    Hope this helps.

  • Why I cannot see the "Java Development " tag when I finished installation

    Hi all
I have finished my reinstall of SAP Netweaver, and granted administrator all roles, but I still cannot see the "Java Development" tag in the head of the page. I don't know why.
    How can I do it?
    Regards

    Hi Wang,
The Java development role comes after the installation of the PDK file to your portal.
For Java development role, download the latest PDK from SDN and then import the .epa file in the portal. After its installation you will see the Java Devlopment role. Assign the role to the user and refresh the portal.
    <i>Follow these steps:</i>
Once you have downloaded the PDK. Just extract it. You would have got the .rar file. For extracting this you use some rar extracter. If you want you can download the winrar from the following site:
    <b>Winrar Setup:</b> http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Compression_and_Zip_File_Utilities/WinRAR.html
Then you can import this epa file into portal. When you will import this .epa file a new role for Java development will be added to the portal. Assign this role to your User.
For importing the .epa file .epa file u need to import from the portal (<b>System Admin>Transport>Import</b>). Here just give the path of your extracted .epa file.
    <b>Role Name: com.sap.pdk.JavaDeveloper</b>
Now you are ready to use the PDK from EP.
    I hope this helps you!!
    Regards
    Pravesh
