Does JDK (java development kit) already comes installed on the Macbook?
I was at the Oracle website and noticed they have a JDK version for Windows, Linux and Solaris, but I couldn't find one for Mac OS. How is possible to develop in Java if you are using a Mac? Does the JDK already comes with it?

No.

  • How to install Java Development kit on RHEL 4.0 workstation

    Hi Guys,
I'm new to java and not able to install java development kit on RHEL 4.0 system.
I got tzupdater.jar file and confused what to do with it so that i acn succesfully use my JDK.

    :(

Simply go here and download the version you want (if you know how to use rpm, then get the rpm version, if not get the self extracting executable form). Then install by either using rpm or simply changing the mode of the downloaded file to make it executable and execute it.
    This is not rocket science.

  • ZAC looks for Java Development kit

Is it true that ZAC needs Java Developmement kit installed on the client?
Because my ZAC client got the following error:
    overallfound JAVA_HOME for JavaSoft VM: D:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3
couldn't load Sun VM: 'Sun VM libraries do not exist/cannot be loaded in
    JAVA_HO
    ME D:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3\bin\javai.dll'
Cannot load a suitable Java VM: error cannot load VM with order preference
    'S',
    exiting
When I reinstall JDK it is okay. When I rename the registry key 'Java
Development Kit' to something else it stop working again. Rename it back
    makes it works.
But I don't know why ZAC need JDK since I only want end user install JRE
    instead.
    Thanks.

The OpenJDK is under the GPL (with the classpath exception)
I searched on the internet and many people says: Java Development Kit is under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and You don't can to distribute your programs compiled with Java Development Kit as a commercial software or to sell a product written in javaThey are wrong. The license of the software only governs how you may use it and what you can do with its source code. It does not restrict what you can do with the things you build with it (as long as you don't use parts of the JDK itself in your product)
, You need a business license if you want to sell a product written in java, I mean: You must to buy: Java for Business JDK/JRE. This information is true? No.
[Java for Business|http://www.sun.com/software/javaforbusiness/index.jsp] is a program by Sun/Oracle that allows you to buy support for the JDK. For example it allows you to use (and be supported with) the JDK 1.4.2, which is otherwise at its end-of-life.
You don't need to buy that if you just want to build and sell software using the JDK.

The application called VirusScan that comes preloaded on the macbook will no longer open, claiming that it is corrupt and that I must reinstall it.  After looking in the app store it does not appear that said application is available for re-downloading. Is there a special, non-app store place where I am to go for this?
Also, I installed MacKeeper about two-three months ago and am questioning its performance. Looking for input as to whether or not this application helps or hinders my system.

I'll back up Csound on the MacKeeper thing.  In fact, I actually wrote the following about it:
    http://www.reedcorner.net/news.php/?p=245
Remove is ASAP.  Do not use the provided uninstalled, as there are widespread reports of pop-ups advertising MacKeeper on your system after incompletely removing it.  Try this:

As for VirusScan, Barney is right on the money that it does not come preinstalled on any Mac shipped new from Apple.  However you have gotten it, your best bet is removing it.  See my Mac Malware Guide for more information that will help you understand and avoid Mac malware without relying on anti-virus software.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...

If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...

To who already they sent back the macbook?
I got a repair order and it is going back to have a
latch repaired and the screen wine. They say 5 days
tops to fix. ****, I waited this long whats 5 days to

I'm confused. You already sent yours in and now you're waiting..and it has been 5 days?
I mailed mine in on Friday to get the screen whine repaired on March 3, they received it on March 4. On Monday March 6 they updated the repair status to read "waiting for part." It's now Thursday the 9th and I'm still "waiting for part." This is really really frustrating. I have no idea when I'm going to get my MBP back again.

  • What is the best SSD to install in the Macbook Pro?

I just got the new 2012 13-inch Macbook Pro. It came with the slow 500GB hard drive but I want to upgrate that to a Soldid State Drive. Which SSD should I get? Thanks!

The Samsung 830 is a very good and fast SSD - this is the same one installed in the Macbook Retina.
    Also consider the following:
Kingston Hyper X - One of the fastest ones out there. (I have this one)
Sandisk Extreme - This is supposed to be the fastest.
Crucial M4 - Midrange performance but very good (I have this one too)
Plextor M3 - Also one of the fastest one.
OCZ Vertex 4 - Very fast one too (Make sure you update the firmware to 1.5)

  • Does the latest MacBook Air OS come with  Java Development Kit, version 1.6?

I need to purchase a laptop  to use for an online Java class.  The website I was given to download JDK 1.6 does not include a download for Mac OS.  I have heard that JDK 1.6 is part of Mountain Lion.  Can anyone confirm that, and if so, how is it accessed?  Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Java doesn't come with Mac OS X since the Lion release, so you will have to install Java manually after setting up the MacBook.
You just have to install Java 6 from Apple > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572

  • Installing java development kit

I have a fair amount of experience with java on machines at the university I attend, but am a little baffled as to how to install or what to install on my windows machine at home. I have installed both J2EE and the latest JDK successfully, but when I try to run the compiler javac in a command line, I am told that the command doesn't exist.
The J2EE documentation doesn't say anything about this and I can't find where the JDK 5.o is installed. Can someone steer me in the right direction? Sun's development environment packaging is very confusing.
    Thanks,
    Mike

The Installation Instructions for the Java 5 JDK explain what the SDK installs, where it installs it, and how to set Windows' PATH to include the various Java tools. A link to this document is immediately below the link you clicked to download the JDK. You should read it.
None of this has anything to do with the J2EE product.

  • Does Snow Leopard Come Installed on the new MBP's?

I read on here that Leopard and Snow Leopard need to be installed once the computer arrives. Is this true? Meaning that the OS X Snow Leopard is not already installed on the notebook when it arrives! That can't be.
Also, if I purchase One-on-One at thid Apple Store, it mentions (or I heard fro someone that I can use the 1st class or whatever it is called to get help with installing programs, migrating from the old to the new, learning a little about the SL OS, etc.? I hope this is good for people who purchase the notebook from the online Apple Store too. It has to be, right? Yeah!
Finally, any recommendations on heavy-duty external 500 GB max most likely with the option of USB 2.0 or FW 400 or 800. I would rarely be using the FW 800 until after I graduate.
    Thanks!

It can be but may not be true. Apple frequently ships existing inventory made before the latest OS is released (& thus does not have it installed or on the system discs) with what is known as a "drop in" disc, so named because it is dropped in the product box & the box resealed before being sent to retail outlets or to customers for direct sales. Once this inventory is gone, all new units will be shipped with the new OS installed (& on the system discs), until then you may get the new OS in one or the other form.

*One to One* is a separate purchase & includes personalized help for everything you mentioned. Read about it at http://www.apple.com/retail/onetoone/.

What is best for you depends on what you mean by "heavy-duty" & how long it will be before you graduate. Do not expect current hard drives to last more than five years (although many will), so figure this into how long you would be using it after purchase. With the current trends in capacity vs. cost, you will probably be able to buy in two years a drive several times as large as a 500 GB one for cheaper than whatever you pay now, so figure that in as well.
In general, Seagate has a good reputation for longevity (mostly perhaps because of its 5 year warranty on some models). The drive products from Other World Computing are also highly regarded. Personally, I like Buffalo drives, mostly for their low cost, & because I plan on replacing/adding new external drives every 1 ½ to 2 years.
If by heavy-duty you mean mechanically rugged, check out the portable drives marketed for portable use & that characteristic -- some have shock resistant cases & contain hard drives with higher g-force shock ratings than is usual.

  • Java Development Kit Choice

    Hi all,
I'm in a situation where I have to make a decision on which Java DK should be installed on multiple computers in an educational setting. I want the students to use a text editor+command prompt to learn, but it would be nice to have the option to use an IDE later on, especially for students with more experience.
My question is, if we are going to be predominantly using the text editor+command prompt combination, is there any disadvantage besides using more disk space to installing the "JDK 6 Update 7 with NetBeans" versus simply "JDK 6 Update 7".
    Thanks for your help!

My question is, if we are going to be predominantly using the text editor+command prompt combination, is there any disadvantage besides using more disk space to installing the "JDK 6 Update 7 with NetBeans" versus simply "JDK 6 Update 7".By installing the combination ( JDK plus NetBeans) you cause tighter linking between the two, and the potential for more installation problems. It used to be (and may have now changed) that you couldn't update one of the two when the combination wsa installed - it required both be replaced.
I always install the Java JDK version I want, and then install the NB version I want, separately.
