Confused about advice from Verizon re:International Traveling

I have an iphone 4S with Verizon. As I am going to be traveling in France this summer I decided to get a local French SIM card through LeFrenchMobile. I received that, called Verizon, had phone unlocked, and the French SIM card works perfectly. Then the Verizon representative told me I needed to go in and turn Data Roaming off so as not to be charged by Verizon. I explained that when abroad I will be using the French SIM card and therefore the data should not show up on my Verizon account. She told me No, there would still be charges from Verizon for data if I leave that on. So I am confused? I can understand why she would say that if I was leaving in the Verizon SIM but with that out of the phone is there any other method of them charging my data roaming abroad. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Actually, that was changed in the iOS 5.1.1 update. You can now stop the phone from defaulting to CDMA by going into Settings>General>Roaming>International CDMA and making sure it's set to "off". While it doesn't sound as if there's any harm in setting Data Roaming to off, I don't think it matters in this circumstance.

  • Should you choose Verizon for international travel?

Background: My wife and left for Italy for a bicycle and sightseeing tour. We arrived on  June 26th and hoped to communicate using the international plan. We understood that we could not use data due to expense but hoped to keep in contact when bicycle riding by using Verizon services. There was a problem with the activation of my wifes phone so I called customer service on the 28th. It was explained to me that there was a tremendous back log so after an hour and a half on the phone I hung up. Naturally I did not want to use my vacation time on hold with Verizon. The next day after a half hour the worldwide tech people updated her plan. The phone worked that evening but the next day it was in the android mode. Could not use phone for communication or for photos...not to worry the Verizon team would come through...On the 30 it was explained to me that the phone was inoperable but Verizon would have a phone waiting for wife when we returned on the July 9 th. The uptake was that we could not use the phone for communication or photos.
When I returned to United States I contacted customer service and explained the situation. Customer service was very polite but policy dictated...Verizon would reverse international charges on my wifes phone but not my phone. The reasoning for this request was that Verizon greatly impacted my vacation by not allowing me to communicate with my wife when touring and she could not take photos for three quarters of vacation. I do not believe that this is an unreasonable request.
The topper is there was no phone here when we arrived. Again tech services were very polite but policy dictates. I could not pick up a phone at a local store and I would have to pay $12.95 for overnight shipping. I explained that I thought this was unreasonable because it was Verizon's fault but policy dictates.
What I learned is that Verizon policy is not customer centered but profit centered. Verizon talks the talk customer service but does not walk the walk.
If you choose to Verizon for international travel make sure you have a back up plan and do not expect customer support

  • Notified Verizon of International Travel & The Fraud Dept Suspends My Service for One International Call

I called Verizon to notify them that I would be out of the country traveling to Portugal and Spain.  Based on the customer service representative's advice, I added international calling to my plan.  While in Spain, I called my daughter.  My phone stopped working.  Luckily, it was near the end of my trip and I had internet access at the hotel to communicate with my family. When I arrived in the U.S., my phone did not have service.  I called Verizon three times and finally learned that they had suspended my phone service because of suspected fraud.  My one call from Spain had somehow caused them to suspend service even though I had called to activate international calling.  I did not receive any type of notification that my service was suspended. Today, three weeks after the call from Spain, the fraud department called and were on the verge of suspending my service a second time.  If I had not answered, they were suspending my service.  I understand that preventing fraud is important, but I am very upset that my service was suspended when I did everything that I was supposed to do to use Verizon's international calling feature. Today, the representative said there was not a note in my file about my previous call to the fraud department. Why would they suspend my service two weeks after reinstating it?  Is one call from Spain enough to warrant suspending service when a customer has international calling? What can I do to prevent this happening in the future?

  • Confused about transition from MobileMe

Up until now I actually have been happy with MobileMe.  But I wanted to transition to iCloud since MobileMe will shut down at the end of June.
So today, I started the transition to iCloud.  However, I am confused about how to set up all the devices we used to use on MobileMe.  Before our family shared five computers, three iPhones, one iPod Touch and 2 iPads.  Under MobileMe, we were able to all share the calendars and contacts.  Now I have no idea how to have multiple devices share calendars and contacts.  Each person in my family has their own separate Apple ID.  Is there a way that multiple Apple ID's can share on iCloud account?  If so, how do we set that up?  I have no idea how to get one machine to see the general iCloud account.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Some questions from a frequent international traveler ;

    1. Does the NOTE 4 support 4G on the networks in England / UK? (I know it works on 3G / Calls for GSM).
    2. If not, what Verizon phones support 4G in the UK? What model numbers?
    3. Should the hotspot feature work even if I use a 3rd party SIM (GSM) and that 3rd party supports it or is the Note 4 locked to only provide Hotspot capability under Verizon in the USA?
    Thanks.

        dencar,
Great news! The Note 4 does work with the network in the U.K.! The international dial allow feature must be added to your existing plan if you wish to use the existing Verizon Wireless SIM. Calls are normally $1.29 per minute. We offer our customers a Global Value Plan that would bring the cost down to $0.99. The plan is $4.99 per billcycle. Mobile data and mobile data hotspot is available. Data is billed at $20.48 per MB or we offer 100MB for $25. See the details and sign up here: http://vz.to/17KseUf  .
If you are looking to use a SIM card from a local network, our 4G devices do come unlocked. If you are looking for details of what options are available, you would need to reach out to that provider.

  • Confusion about recovery from tag

    Hi All,
We had a situation where we need to restore and recover to point in time until 24th June. One of our colleagues at first restored the controlfile from 24th June backup using below script..

Please suggest whether the database was restored until 24th or it was restored to the current data. Please help us to understand.

If you would look up the recover database command in the online documentation,
    you would notice the following
nowhere in your code you restored the controlfile, so you are using the current controlfile
nowhere in your code you are using 'set until' and you are not using the 'until clause' of the recover database command
This means you performed complete recovery, until now.
Please spend a bit of time to read the documentation and to understand what they are taking about.

  • Some question about International Travel

Ok so i know alot of people have question about international travel weather is USA to Canada, Canada to USA or where ever.
So i just got off the phone with someone from AT&T these are my questions for them. i hope it can help, im confuse myself.
*1. I travel recently travel to canada a few weeks ago, when i cross the boarder i switch the data roaming ON and it picks up Rogers Wireless, a few days ago i try i again it said NO SERVICE is something wrong with my iPad?*
NO, consider yourself lucky u didnt get charge for that roaming, your ipad well not work out of the US unless u buy one of our International plans that AT&T has provided. The reason for this is so you wont have any unwanted charge or high charge on your bill.
*2. If i was to buy a sim card from Canada and pop it in to my US ipad well it work?*
Honestly that's something you can try at your own risk, it's design for AT&T so by switching sim cards it may affect your ipad such as running slow, virus, crash. You can try it, i dont work for Rogers so i know nothing about them, i work for AT&T so i can only tell you about our plans and i wont lie to you.(I THINK U JUST DID) This ipad is not unlock just like the iphone so it well only work with AT&T.
*3. If i pop my sim card out and put in an international sim card well it affect my plan at all or in any way?*
Yes it can, right now your on the unlimited plan if you put in a different sim card and then re-put in ur AT&T one chances are you're going to loose your unlimited plan and have to settle for the newer plan. That's why AT&T has reduce it's international plans so people are more likely to use it. It's a contract we sign with Apple, if u want to use in canada you can always buy an Ipad in canada and use their plan. (***)
At the end of this conversion i was just more angry with them. All in all she told bottom line is dont do anything stick with AT&T and pay for international plans. So i have to pay over price data plan if i want to use it intertanional? or i have to buy an ipad for each international places i go to?
Has anyone try or done any of the 3 ive mention and did it affect ur plan or ipad in anyway?
    Thanks
    Andy

Ok so here's a little more info
I called AT&T again today asking them the same question the guy was more helpful then the one yesterday. Even though he kinda told me the same saying that the ipad need to be unlock. , Afterward he transfer me someone from Apple. The lady told me
    1. The ipad is UNLOCK so dont bother trying to get it unlock.
    2. she doesnt see why sticking in another sim card from one of the apple ipad carrier is a problem. U would just have to sign up activated it like u would when u first got it.
    3. Contact phone company (my case Rogers) to see if they carry the mico sim cards.
    4. She doesnt see why it would affect the current plan u have now.
So at the end of all that she told me, seem like AT&T is just telling you, you cant do this or u shouldnt do that is simple THEY WANT YOU TO USE THEIR PLANS.
so with that i said i just want to let everyone know. I'm gonna go pick my Micro sim cards from Canada in a bit and sign up for thier plan we'll keep everyone updated if anything change or how it work

  • Confused about the 2 Different Verizon 4G, 3G Maps and if I have 4G in Salt Lake City, Utah

    Hello-
I am really wanting either the Samsung MIFI type 4G device or the Thunderbolt HTC phone but I can't get a straight answer on if I am in a 4G area.  I called and one Verizon agent sent me to a URL that had various shades of red, supposedly showing the various levels of 4G, and 3G in the Salt Lake Area.  it made no sense to me because the various shades of red changed depending on whose computer I was checking and the display settings.  it looked like there was 4G, not extended but the full on 4G in a large part of Salt Lake City.  I called back and this person took me to the map that is just red and white.  I think the red was either 3G and the white is not 3G or the red is 4G and the white areas are not 4G
Why would they not have one map that is clear about if  areas have 4G, have a mix of 4G & 3G and whatever else is available?  what is up with 2 maps, one being very subjective because the various shades of red can be different depending on the display settings.
I did get a reply from an earlier post that was an article someone sent me to saying Salt Lake City has no 4G but should by the end of 2011.  what is up with leaving Salt Lake city behind?   This is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation.  If I get a 4G device like the Samsung MIFI device or a smartphone that is 4G like the thunderbolt HTC does that mean that these will not work in a 3G area?
Just when I am brave enough to get my first smartphone, it seem silk I get so many various answers from Verizon employees, that they do not really even know.
any advice.  I learn from other's suggests, examples, but I do not run out and follow them just because somebody tells me to do it.  it is part of how I gather information, learn from other's experiences, and hopefully can make a decision as to what I should do.  the 3G MIFI I have had for years does not stay connected past 5 minutes and starting the device and restarting the device is getting to be a bit too much/
thanks in advance for any help.  ,Feel free to send me a PM if my post ad your reply seems too novice.  I do not care as long as I can learn from what others have to say.  :-)

Yes that is the map but the area that is 4G is North-West Salt Lake.  Some of downtown is 4G (I guess 4G and extended 4G is that extended is or can be sometimes 4G and sometimes 3G.)  I never doubted that Salt Lake had some 4G.  I was trying to tell you that the Verizon agent told me that Salt Lake city will not have 4G until the end of 2011.  she gave me the URL to an article that validates that.  the other map which another agent used is just red and white.  She said go by this map since it is more accurate as of now and the one with the various reds is toward the end of 2011.  whatever the story is, I have no idea but if you look at the map that you are questioning if I refreshed the map aft checking 4G you will see that most of downtown Salt Lake is not the burgundy red and south of downtown has no 4G at al, just 4G extended and 3G.  If you want to check the area where I live it is near 3900 South or on the section of the map you are showing in your post, it is South of 215 and 80 frwys.  this area on the map I used this morning is all 4G extended and 3G.  I have no idea why the only pure 4G is near the Great Salt Lake, but that area is out where the airport is (west of downtown Salt Lake).  Have you looked at the other map that is just red and white? I am not sure of the difference but the agent told me that map is the most current map if you want something that is current.
I am confused.  But I am still confused as to why you were wondering if I was refreshing the map?  I was telling or describing in my post what the agents at Verizon had told me, not what I had seen on the multi colored map.
    thanks,

  • My primary reason for buying an iPad is for travel in Europe.  I live in an area of the US where Verizon rules.  Is Verizon's 3G model good for international travel?  I'm hearing conflicting views.

    Verizon uses CDMA.
The rest of the world uses GSM.
The wifi will work, if you find a hotspot.
The 3G will not, unless south Korea moves to Europe.

  • Complaint about my bill and customer service - never expected from Verizon

I have several lines and I live and work out of the country for a big % of the year. Also have one of my CEO's lines on my plan. Our average monthly bill is 6-7K USD. Recently, it popped up to 10,000 USD. Verizon was nice enough to drop it a bit, as I was traveling in a country with no rate plan.
Then things went sideways - bill popped up again, I called to ask about it, and they said that they couldn't do anything. Thats ok, I get it, its a us carrier and I am in Asia.
Here's my proble, I had just paid 4 or 5,000 dollars 2 weeks ago, and they messaged me to say that I had to pay 8000 or they were turning off the phone. For a client who pays, month in and month out, 6-8,000 usd for mroe than a year, isn't there a better way to handle this? But that's fine, I get that, too, so I called into ask about the status, per their request and the lady who answered and spoke with me treated me like a dead beat and she was a bill collector. I was polite, and I just asked to speak to her manager because I wanted to discuss the bill. She wouldn't put a manager on. I asked several times and she kept responding with - why do you need to speak with a manager, what specifically do you need. Finally I raised my voice and said "BECAUSE I WANT TO." I was too busy with work so at that point, I just said to forget it - I will pay the bill online and call someone else at Verizon later to discuss my bill. Then she wouldnt let me off of the phone sh was trying to get authorization to charge the card over the phone, but she needed a zip code to confirm - I finally had to hang up on her. I hung up and then went online and paid my bil (8,0000 USD).
Such a bad experience. I'm at the point where I will break the contract, pay the fee, and move all of my business to ATT. I can only assume they will treat me better, but what a crazy change for Verizon. They have always been such a tight operation, can't understand how they would let someoen like that into their business. Literally drove me away from Verizon.

        Morgz,
Driving you away from us is most certainly not the goal here. So, allow me to lasso you back in. Now, I know firsthand we're not talking about pocket change here. However, this seems to be a persistent issue that you'd like to get squared away. Pending where you're traveling in Asia and which device you own, we may have something better so you don't worry about overages and calls like this. In fact, check out our trip planner so you can make sure your line is setup properly after cross referencing with your features via My Verizon http://vz.to/n9PFe9 . Next, pending which device you use, I would recommend contacting our global support team at 908-559-4899 so we can make sure you're set up for success going forward no matter where you are in the world.

  • How do I file a complaint about the service I received from Verizon and if I file a complaint, will anything really change?

I was considering changing service carriers for two of my children on our Verizon plan.  The plan was extremely expensive and my two high school aged children had very old slide phones (one wouldn't even receive calls anymore!)  I had another carrier that was much more reasonable for what they needed and they were both able to get smart phones for $100.  I called Verizon over the holidays to check if the phones were under contract.  The customer service representative asked what I was thinking about doing.  I was very honest and told my plan.  I was then told by the representative that the phones were not under contract.  I switched my children to the new carrier only to receive a $428 bill for early termination of contract!!!!
When I called back, I was told by the new representative that I did receive correct information.  Apparently, I did not ask the "correct" question.  The "correct" question would have been, "Are the LINES under contract? (not the phones!)  Now, I am trying to file a complaint and have no idea where to find the area for the complaint!  Please  help!

    AmberF
If I port back, I have to take away the two smartphones that I gave my high school children for Christmas.  (Sorry kids, Mom is sending back your Christmas gifts because Verizon did not give me the correct information regarding our plan!  You get to go back to your 6 year old slide phone, which doesn't receive calls, and your 3 year old slide phone, that doesn't make calls!)  Also, if I port back, the best that you can give me is $30/month on these phones unless I purchase new phones from you!
I have decided to write Verizon a letter of complaint.  I am willing to concede that maybe I did not use proper terminology when requesting information regarding my plan.  I did, however, inform the customer service representative of what I was trying to accomplish and she should have been more upfront with me. I am looking for some type of compromise from Verizon.   I just received my Verizon bill and it is $817.58!!!!   While this will create a very difficult month for my family financially, I am going to pay the bill in the hopes that Verizon will issue me some type of credit for their part in this debacle!
If I do not receive some type of compromise from Verizon, I now know when the contracts for all my other lines (5 at home and 5 for our business) will no longer be under contract.  If Verizon cares so little about their customers that they refuse to admit that they might be somewhat at fault, they will no longer have my business.  I will regret this decision, because except for a few minor problems, Verizon has usually been easy to work with.  I consider this a major issue.  I was trying to be prudent and check the terms of my contract before I made any changes and I don't feel Verizon was honest with their answers.
AmberF, if you can make some sort of financial compromise happen, I will be very happy to thank you!  As I stated,  $817.58 Verizon bill is going to make February and potentially March very difficult months for my family.

  • Just bought a Nikon d750 and confused about adobe LR4 and PS6 support for the RAW files. I have DNG 8.7 but wondering if LR and PS will import direct soon Thanks for any advice

Just bought a Nikon d750 and confused about adobe LR4 and PS6 support for the RAW files. I have DNG 8.7 but wondering if LR and PS will import direct soon Thanks for any advice

Support for the Nikon D750 was introduced in the latest version of LR 5.7 and ACR 8.7 on Novemder 18th 2014.
Further updates to LR 4 were stopped when LR 5 was released on June 9th 2013. No further updates for bug fixes and new camera support.
Nada, LR 4 will never support Nikon D750. The Nikon D750 was introduced into the market in September 2014 some 15 months after further development of LR 4 was discontinued.
You can use the Adobe DNG program (free download for the package) to convert the Nef (raw) files from your Nikon D750 to the Adobe DNG format which will permit you to import those into LR 4. This is the crutch provided by Adobe to allow for the processing of raw files with outdated versions of LR and ACR.
You can also update the ACR plugin for PS CS6 to version 8.7 which can also work with the raw files from the D750. For direct support in Lightroom you will need to upgrade (paid) to version 5.7.

  • If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this.

If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this. Thank you.

The DVD recorder I'm referring to is one I've use for years. It is not attached to my aging iMac in any way. I simply play the video from my camcorder (mini-dv tape based Canon HV20)  into the DVD recorder and create a DVD that can be played in any DVD player. I can only do minimum editing so what goes in is what I get. This has been fine for creating dupes of the various things I shoot.
If I buy a new iMac (21 inch), I'd like to be able to download the video to the iMac through iMovie, work with it to whatever degree I wish, and burn it to a DVD that can also be played in any DVD player -- or to use as a master to dupe copies.
What I'm understanding from you and others is that this would be possible if Apple had included iDVD in the software that comes with the iMac, or if I purchase the iLife Family Pack, or buy the correct version of Toast. I'm hoping I can persuade Apple to sell me an iMac with iDVD installed.
Essentially I want to move from a basic process of creating DVD copies to the more sophisticated process of creating one from an iMac.
Thank you again for your help and wisdom.

Do I need the "Wildcard in House" in the Settings, General, Profile?
This says that it is expiring and cannot find any information about this from Apple or Verizon.

Apple haven't yet signed agreements with yell.com and similar local information services here in the UK or in europe. The rumor is that in the UK and others, will get it sometime towards the beginning of the year.
