Some questions from a frequent international traveler ;

1. Does the NOTE 4 support 4G on the networks in England / UK? (I know it works on 3G / Calls for GSM).
2. If not, what Verizon phones support 4G in the UK? What model numbers?
3. Should the hotspot feature work even if I use a 3rd party SIM (GSM) and that 3rd party supports it or is the Note 4 locked to only provide Hotspot capability under Verizon in the USA?

I just switch to the Adobe Design Suite and bought LightRoom too. Since I worked more than 25 years with Corel I have some questions:
01. Is or will there be facial recognition? (like in "Elements")

Yes, I do understand that it will take time. But I must focus on Photoshop and Dreamweaver first since these are the programs that I use most of the time on a daily basis. I worked with the demo versions too to get an impression of what I was about to buy.
I worked with a DW version from Macromedia and used Corel for more than 25 years. Since CorelPaint was crashing all the time and more and more people were complaining, I switched radically to Adobe. The reasons I had, besides the crashing, is that I could start fresh and use it with my children now. They have to use it for school purposes etc. Also I believe that Adobe is leading in the world and makes it more universal for us to work with. I found a lot of stuff on the internet like manuals etc. and will go into that soon. I'm aware of the fact that posting here is best done with problems not covered in help, but of course I tried the find it first myself. I must add that although we speak and read English fairly well, the technical aspect is sometimes harder for us to understand and find in English. But again, since it's used so much over the world we choose the English versions.

Confused about advice from Verizon re:International Traveling

I have an iphone 4S with Verizon. As I am going to be traveling in France this summer I decided to get a local French SIM card through LeFrenchMobile. I received that, called Verizon, had phone unlocked, and the French SIM card works perfectly. Then the Verizon representative told me I needed to go in and turn Data Roaming off so as not to be charged by Verizon. I explained that when abroad I will be using the French SIM card and therefore the data should not show up on my Verizon account. She told me No, there would still be charges from Verizon for data if I leave that on. So I am confused? I can understand why she would say that if I was leaving in the Verizon SIM but with that out of the phone is there any other method of them charging my data roaming abroad. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Actually, that was changed in the iOS 5.1.1 update. You can now stop the phone from defaulting to CDMA by going into Settings>General>Roaming>International CDMA and making sure it's set to "off". While it doesn't sound as if there's any harm in setting Data Roaming to off, I don't think it matters in this circumstance.

New guy here......37 year old Swede, living in Los Angeles since 1988......guitar player since age 12. Pretty new to the whole computer recording thing, now working in GB3 and have Logic Express.......Some quick questions.......
A decent audio interface?.......Right now Im running through a Line 6 POD XT PRO (the rack mounted version) It works great, for recording guitars (real) and bass and such, but recently aquired a Roland PC-200 MK midi controller, and the POD does not recognize other midi devices...? (understandably, as it is a guitar thingamagig)
All my buddies do Pro tools, and was thinking maybe going the way of that......I understand the M-box works with garageband and Logic, albeit not SO good as let's say a Presonus Inspire or Firebox......What to do?
Still debating wheter going with Protools or Logic? Positives, negatives please......
I heard that ProTools is more live recording, versus Logic is more MIDI friendly.......? Understanfably you can do EVERYTHING you can do on Pro tools on Logic, I guess the difference is, if youre working with it (I am not) then perhaps if time is an issue, you choose one or the other depending on what works best.......
I sit home, record, Time is plentiful, but do plan on recording a CD (solo material) mostly guitars, bass, midi drums and keyboard and vocals......
Anybody with any input, suggestions etc.... will be greatly appreciated.....

Welcome to the forum Stefan.
You are pretty much right on about Logic vs Pro Tools. Logic is mainly a MIDI sequencer (and the best one at that!) with added audio recording capabilities, while Pro Tools is mainly an audio recording DAW with some MIDI capabilities (I hear that Pro Tools 7 is pretty darn good with MIDI, but haven't tried it).
Regarding the interface, what's your budget? If you have the money and are very serious about recording, I would suggest getting the Apogee Rosetta 800 (or 400). If money is tighter than that (as in my case) I would go for the Presonus Firepod. Best in it's price range by many accounts. If that's too many inputs for your needs, then I would suggest it's little brother, the Presonus Firebox.
You'll also want to check into getting some decent monitors (speakers). All this stuff is useless without something to listen to. And they need to be accurate.

Some questions from a new user of Inventory

We have some issues with our Zenworks 7 Inventory services :
1) When we do quick report or data export, the number of object listed are not representative. Some WS are missing and other WS are in double (but not the same data associate).
2) I've try to set the removal policy but on the server each hour I have the message "No removal policy found".
3) What's the best way to starting from scratch ? I mean, flushing all DB entries, deleting WS object and force a full scan for everyone to be sure that we have an up to date inventory starting from now ?
Any help will be appreciated.

I follow all .ncf call starting from StartInv.ncf and everything looks fine.
I look in the properties of the server package of the Zenworks server, I see you can define rules (policies) to different level (General, Windows, Netware and Linux). The removal policy is defined at the Windows Level, is it the right place to be ?

Starting fresh of coure doesn't help you, as this does nothing to the
fact that your policies don't work, so we first need to get this fixed,
and *then* we can decide if it's still required or easier to start with
a new DB.
So, in the properties of the server running the removal service in
ConsoleOne, do you actualyl see the WS removal policy in assigned or
effective policies?
If it is there, and you still see the server claiming it can't find a
removal policy, then follow the trail of your startinv.ncf. It calls two
other .ncf files, look at them closely. They should contain your
servername and context as parameters in the program calls. Is there
something wrong with them? (E.G, did you by chance move or rename the
server since installing Zen)?

Some questions from a new dba.

Hello.
I'm on a quest to learn Oracle. But in learning I've hit acouple of things that seem confusing or contradictory. Maybe someone more experienced can help me understand thse.
1) When you mount but don't open the database, you'll get a "ORA-01219: database not open: queries allowed on fixed tables/views only" warning. If I then try and query the "static" data dictionary tables such as "ALL_USERS", I get this warning again. However, it seems like most of the V$ tables can be queries with no problem, such as V$INSTANCE. This seems contradictory, because the manuals describe the V$ tables as dynamic. How is it that I'm supposedly only able to read from "fixed" tables but the dynamic tables seem to be the only ones I can access?
2) When I create a new user, I grant the user the CONNECT role. According to the manual the CONNECT role allows "CREATE TABLE" permissions. However, when I try and create a table as that user I'll get an error (wierd quota errors, actually). However, if I grant the user the RESOURCE role the user can create tables without a problem. I asked my DBA about this an she said this is normal "Don't worry about it", but I can't help but feeling like this is just wrong. Is the manual wrong or did I miss something when I created the user? I don't want to hand out roles I don't need to.

Actually CONNECT role allows the following privileges:
ALTER SESSION
CREATE CLUSTER
CREATE DATABASE LINK
CREATE SEQUENCE
CREATE SESSION
CREATE SYNONYM
CREATE TABLE
CREATE VIEW
The problem you are having is that while you can create a table, you don't have any quota in a tablespace to create the table in. You need to assign quota to your user on a tablespace.
i.e. alter user ME quota unlimited (or n) on data;
Then you'll be able to create a table. The reason that granting the RESOURCE role allows you to create the table is that the resource role includes the UNLIMITED TABLESPACE privilege which gives you unlimited quota on all tablespaces in the database.
This is a common misconception among many DBA's CONNECT gives you much more than connect to the database, if you just want connect to the database grant CREATE SESSION to the user.

Some question from a new N97 owner

Hi all,
So I just got my new N97. I have a few questions:
- Configure home screen: So far I can add 2 shortcut bars (each can contain 4 application). I want to add more short cut bars, is there anyway? In the selection list when choosing the bar item to place on the home screen, there is no "shortcut 3" item.
- Screen saver: So far my N97 locks key and screen becomes black and locked very fast (about 10 seconds) no matter how I try to change to settings. Actually there is nothing displayed (back screen) at all. And to wake up, I have to use the lock/unlock slide on the side. Is this normal? I can't touch the screen to wake it up? I got to Menu > Settings > Phones > play with settings there but no use. Do I need an application to have the screen saver feature? Is this a device flaw or do I have to change settings somewhere else?

hmm i have a n85 as well hence my response to you in regards to the screen saver. yes it shows those options but eventually it does go all black. unless i missed something with my phone. which is possible as i no longer use it as my primary device. the only option right now for you to customize home screen is to wait for n97 app MyPhone that hopefully will soon be released for your model. nokia phones have never nor will they ever behave in a iphonish fashion hence no possibility to set apps up as you would like. n97 is full of customizations just not exactly how you would like them to be who knows perhaps with future updates it will become even more flexible but for now its either that or waiting for MyPhone to be released. sorry.
ps. i am greatly surprised that n97 would not have a screen saver options at least similar to the n85 that worries me as i am also awaiting arrival of my brand new n97. so hearing all kinds of news makes me a bit concerned about this new phone. time will tell. sorry i dont have anymore news for you.

hello all, i'm new to this whole discussion thing... but i've had my powerbook g4 for about a year and recently have been recording with garage band and have though about upgrading to Logic. However in the past couple of days i've had problems with using multiple effects at once,is this a problem i should worry about if i purchase Logic, or do you think its something thats limited to garage band use?

You don't have to be affraid, I'm running fine with the PB G4 1.5Ghz,
It's only natural that the more plug-ins you use, you need more processor,
but there are ways around it such; freeze tracks, use busses, diferent I/O buffers sizes, and external HD (7200 rpm) for audio recording and playback is a must.
(In GB you have the Lock, did you try it?, as soon as you lock all tracks and hit play, it renders the files to HD)
Your Machine's fine! Add the more ram you can!

Some question from a new faceTime user

I have just downloaded the facetime application to 2 of my macbook pros I have.
1. I could not yet establish a call between these two. the caller side keeps calling without any ring getting to the other side when sometimes it does the application shows a "connecting ..." message long enough (few minutes ) for me to cancel the call.
any ideas ??
2. can someone tell if i can send an HD quality call with a non buit-in camera (for example Microsoft live HD camera)

1. Are you using a different Apple ID on each? I don't know if an Apple ID can call itself. It might be like trying to dial your own phone number.

Question from a Newbie wireless user

Please excuse the naivete of this question. I'm completely ignorant on everything pertaining to wireless internet. My old Powerbook 400mHz G4 Titanium has never had wireless of any kind until this week when I bought a PCMCIA wireless adapter. Never used wireless, don't know anything about it.
I started following the instructions on the PCM adapter this morning to get it all set up. I plan to toggle back and forth between wired internet at home and the wireless adapter when I'm out on the road.
I was surprised when I saw the window where I enter my settings that there were no less than ten different internet services flying around the room in my house! I guess I have a lot of wireless neighbors and I could easily access their bandwidth.
I imagine the same would go when I'm in town sitting in the library. They welcome you to use their internet access, but it's in a busy end of town and I'm sure I'll see numerous services available there too.
So I'm clueless on this topic. Again, I've never used wireless internet before - but I've read about these guys who've been arrested in front of coffee houses for stealing bandwidth at WiFi hotspots when they weren't paying customers.
What's the deal with sitting in your living room and using your neighbor's internet access? I know it's not ethical and we should all get our own, but what are legalities? And say I hopped on to someone's internet access +quite accidentally+...how does one get caught if you do it quietly? And have people actually gotten into trouble beyond these two guys that made national news?
I guess my main question is exactly how careful do I need to be to set the correct access service when there are ten immediately available in a public place? Can I just click on whatever signal is strongest and log on without fear of being caught?
I hope somebody knowledgeable can set me straight on this.

Ok so i know alot of people have question about international travel weather is USA to Canada, Canada to USA or where ever.
So i just got off the phone with someone from AT&T these are my questions for them. i hope it can help, im confuse myself.
*1. I travel recently travel to canada a few weeks ago, when i cross the boarder i switch the data roaming ON and it picks up Rogers Wireless, a few days ago i try i again it said NO SERVICE is something wrong with my iPad?*
NO, consider yourself lucky u didnt get charge for that roaming, your ipad well not work out of the US unless u buy one of our International plans that AT&T has provided. The reason for this is so you wont have any unwanted charge or high charge on your bill.
*2. If i was to buy a sim card from Canada and pop it in to my US ipad well it work?*
Honestly that's something you can try at your own risk, it's design for AT&T so by switching sim cards it may affect your ipad such as running slow, virus, crash. You can try it, i dont work for Rogers so i know nothing about them, i work for AT&T so i can only tell you about our plans and i wont lie to you.(I THINK U JUST DID) This ipad is not unlock just like the iphone so it well only work with AT&T.
*3. If i pop my sim card out and put in an international sim card well it affect my plan at all or in any way?*
Yes it can, right now your on the unlimited plan if you put in a different sim card and then re-put in ur AT&T one chances are you're going to loose your unlimited plan and have to settle for the newer plan. That's why AT&T has reduce it's international plans so people are more likely to use it. It's a contract we sign with Apple, if u want to use in canada you can always buy an Ipad in canada and use their plan. (***)
At the end of this conversion i was just more angry with them. All in all she told bottom line is dont do anything stick with AT&T and pay for international plans. So i have to pay over price data plan if i want to use it intertanional? or i have to buy an ipad for each international places i go to?
Has anyone try or done any of the 3 ive mention and did it affect ur plan or ipad in anyway?

Ok so here's a little more info
I called AT&T again today asking them the same question the guy was more helpful then the one yesterday. Even though he kinda told me the same saying that the ipad need to be unlock. , Afterward he transfer me someone from Apple. The lady told me
1. The ipad is UNLOCK so dont bother trying to get it unlock.
2. she doesnt see why sticking in another sim card from one of the apple ipad carrier is a problem. U would just have to sign up activated it like u would when u first got it.
3. Contact phone company (my case Rogers) to see if they carry the mico sim cards.
4. She doesnt see why it would affect the current plan u have now.
So at the end of all that she told me, seem like AT&T is just telling you, you cant do this or u shouldnt do that is simple THEY WANT YOU TO USE THEIR PLANS.
so with that i said i just want to let everyone know. I'm gonna go pick my Micro sim cards from Canada in a bit and sign up for thier plan we'll keep everyone updated if anything change or how it work

HT201272 I have recently picked up an Apple TV. When I go to the movies tab, there are less movies available there than there are in my i-Tunes account. I've done some looking around at questions from others, but haven't found an answer that works for me.

I have recently picked up an Apple TV. When I go to the movies tab, there less movies available there than what is available in my i-Tunes library. I have 38 movies showing in my library but only 23 are showing in the Movies tab on the Apple TV. After researching this a little, there are only 23 movies showing under Purchased in the Quicklinks of my i-Tunes account. The majority of my collection are digital copy downloads that came from DVD purchases. Some of the missing movies were added in the past couple of months, the rest are a year-or-so old. I have done some looking around at questions from others, but I have not found an answer that will fix my situation. How do I update my library to get ALL of my movies to reflect that they were "Purchased"(as it says they were in their Properties)?

Thank you for that post, and the advice. I just happen to be one of those who it does work for. I've been around long enough to know that CC isn't going to work for everyone(the large publishing/radio/web company I work for isn't upgrading to CC because of the costs involved). But it does for me as I potentially venture out into the full-time freelancing world and away from the more structured big office environment. I can't make decisions based on what is best for anyone else, or what will hurt or help Adobe. Just what affects me, and that's all.

Migrating from Aperture to LR - some questions

Hey all,
I'm a current user of Aperture and I'm considering going to LightRoom but I have some questions/concerns. I downloaded the demo and I'm playing with that but given my lack of knowledge, I wanted to ask some questions to get a feel for the product.
I'm not sure if my current aperture library is considered large or not but I have about 75gig of images to which I have them organized by project. Since the birth of my girls I've been focusing a lot on them - go figure Anyways the setup I have for them is a good example in how I typically setup up my images within Aperture. I'm not sure how easy (or not so easy this can be done with LR)
As you can see I have a folder called twins, then the year and finally the month. The purple icons are smart albums, basically images that pass muster and I upload to smugmug.
I basically would like to have something along those lines in LR - have my images organized by event, date (if need be) and then a smart album of images that I'll be publishing.
I'm still getting used to the interface, there are things I definitely like and some things I need to work on a little more. Any advice on moving from aperture to LR would be helpful though I do want to qualify that I'm still checking it out and have not made a decision to jump ship quite yet.
Finally are there any deals or such to lower the price of LR?

So you're saying don't organize the images in the physical folders - that's going to be a hard habit to break. In playing with LR last night, I created a separate catalog called twins09 and I exported my masters (with the sidecar) out of aperture by folder, i.e., January09 goes into a separate folder, as does June09 etc. I then created my smart collections of keepers by using the 5 stars and date constraints that LR provides, i.e, greater the 20090430 and less then 20090601 for May09 images.
What you're recommending is to create a twins 2009 folder and store all images there and then use collections/smart collections to organize the images. Interesting. Given the habits I've picked up using aperture that will be a difficult adjustment.
