Confusion about default territory settings.

During R12.0.4 installation should i have to select saudi Arabiaas default territory. i am doing installation in saudi arabia with NLS Arabic patch.
one more thing characterset if i select UTF8 does it support AR8MSWIN1256, or else i select AR8MSWIN1256 for database & application character set.

Hi,
During R12.0.4 installation should i have to select saudi Arabiaas default territory. i am doing installation in saudi arabia with NLS Arabic patch. The profile options for language and territory are configured at the site level when you run Rapid Install. The language you choose as the base language is used for the language profile. The default settings for date and number formats are derived from the territory profile setting. So, if you want to use KSA territory, select it here. Otherwise, keep it as it is (I would suggest you keep the default and change it later).
In Release 12, Rapid install only installs American English. If you plan to use languages other than American English in your installation, read the information in the Oracle Applications NLS Release Notes, and complete the necessary steps for installing the translated software.

  • Confused about my project settings - Can someone advise?

I have some clips of my child when she was very little (i've supplied a sample at the bottom). I want to make a project with them in Premiere Elements 10.
I've tried using Premiere Elements' auto project settings advisor (i.e placed the 1st clip of the new project onto the timeline so it can advise if the project settings are correct or not) but no matter what intial project settings i use Premiere Elements doesnt suggest auto corrected settings. So, I've used 3 different media analisis programs to tell me what properties my video clips have and they all say different things:
    1) Media info says: AVI (Mjpeg) 720x480 (3:2) 30 fps NTSC, interlaced.
    2) MovieScanner says: AVI (Mjpeg) 720x480 (4:3), 480p (progressive).
    3) MediaTab says: AVI (Mjpeg) 720x480 (3:2) 30fps, NTSC progressive.
So, i think i can safely say the clips are AVI (motion Jpeg), but are they interlaced or progressive (it's obviouisly important for me to get this right when choosing the project settings)? I have no idea what the pixel aspect ratio and all that would be as that's getting too advanced for me.
Can Mjpeg even be interlaced? Surely if it's lots of Jpegs put together to make a moving image then they must be progressive, or can the Jpegs themselves be interlaced?
Here is a very small sample clip if somebody wants to download & have a look for me:

Any tips of how someone would go about finding out these settings would be great too.
    Many thanks.

    ATR
Your wisdom here would be greatly appreciated (again).
I've decided to make my new movie project of my childs' 1st year in Premiere Elements 12 (not 10), and with the following settings:
The clips i have are of her 1st year and are from the same camcorder. Unfortunently (as previously described) i changed the settings on the camcorder half way through the year. So i have 2 sets of clips i want to use if possible.
The clips are in date order & comprise of the following 2 sets of properties (info from MediaInfo older version 0.7.47):
    Set 01:
    Format                           : JPEG
    Codec ID                         : MJPG
    Width                            : 640 pixels
    Height                           : 480 pixels
    Display aspect ratio             : 4:3
    Frame rate                       : 30.000 fps
    Color space                      : YUV
    Chroma subsampling               : 4:2:2
    Bit depth                        : 8 bits
    Scan type                        : Progressive
    Compression mode                 : Lossy
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame)               : 1.161
    Stream size                      : 144 MiB (98%)
Set 02 (you have a copy of 1 the clips from this set (2010-12-20 - emily in jersey.avi)):
    Format                           : JPEG
    Codec ID                         : MJPG
    Width                            : 720 pixels
    Height                           : 480 pixels
    Display aspect ratio             : 3:2
    Frame rate                       : 30.000 fps
    Standard                         : NTSC
    Color space                      : YUV
    Chroma subsampling               : 4:2:2
    Bit depth                        : 8 bits
    Scan type                        : Progressive
    Compression mode                 : Lossy
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame)               : 1.158
    Stream size                      : 93.5 MiB
Now, i have a stumbling block to solve and your advice would be hugely valued:
What project settings should i use (i ideally want to use both sets of clips in the same project, sorry, lol)?
I'm very tempted to use the project settings that Premiere Elements 12 suggests. It suggests a project setting for clips from set 1 (but has no idea about the settings for Set 2). There are more clips in Set 1 and so it makes sense to me (at the moment) to choose those.
The suggested settings from Premiere Elements 12 are:
    Sony XD CAM EX 720p
    timebase 30.00 fps
    640 x 480
    square (1.0)
    no fields (progressive scan)
    30fps timecode
The clip information that Premiere Elements 12 displays for the 1st clip in set 1 that i placed on the timeline are:
    Image size 640x480
    Frame rate 30
    Pixel aspect ratio 1.0
Would you agree that these settings look about right, or would you still recomend the settings you previously suggested (for that clip from set 2)?
Also, just to complicate things slightly too, i have 2 further clips that i wouldnt mind fitting in that were captured using a different camera altogether. I was not going to use them because of the incompatible frame rate, but is it possible? It doesnt matter too much if its too much of a pain becausde they are only 2 clips.
    Their settings are:
    Video
    Format                           : JPEG
    Codec ID                         : MJPG
    Duration                         : 3mn 2s
    Bit rate                         : 16.3 Mbps
    Width                            : 1 280 pixels
    Height                           : 720 pixels
    Display aspect ratio             : 16:9
    Frame rate                       : 24.000 fps
    Color space                      : YUV
    Chroma subsampling               : 4:2:0
    Bit depth                        : 8 bits
    Scan type                        : Progressive
    Compression mode                 : Lossy
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame)               : 0.738
    Stream size                      : 354 MiB (92%)
Title                            : FUJIFILM AVI STREAM 0100
I'll probably need further advice when the project is completed about how to ideally export the movie.
    Many many thanks.
ps. This problem will not occur again, since i now shoot all my clips from 1 HD camera and with all the same settings, lol.
Just in case you wish to view the 1st clip from set 1 that i placed on the timeline, i have uoploaded it to skydrive:

  • Question about default wallpaper settings on new iPhone

The default wallpaper for the iPhone 3GS is planet Earth. I was wondering if the option for "camera roll" (to use as wallpaper) is there by default...or is it added there after you take your first photo or only after you use a photo as wallpaper the first time.
    Strange question, I know.
    Thanks

  • Really confused about default mail

    Hi,
I use Gmail for emailing, yet I'd like a default application for links on the internet (say, for instance, it says, "Email us", and the link is chosen).
My Apple email comes up, but I have no idea how to set it up correctly. I know I have to provide information from my ISP, but I can't remember what. What should I tell Qwest I need, so I can set up this default email?
I assume Gmail can't be a default because it's website based, right? Hope this makes sense.
    Thanks,
    Allan

Hi Niel -- two related questions dripping with newbie-ishness:
    1) Is there a way to access gmail via Entourage? (I downloaded the Gmail Notifier but it just opened up the Gmail window in Safari -- not sure how that's different from going to Google and accessing e-mail there? ...Which I'd prefer not to do.)
    2) Is there a way to designate Entourage as the default mail instead of Mac Mail or whatever it's called? I.e., when you click on an e-mail link on a website, it opens Entourage, not Mail?
    Thanks very much!

  • How to manually retrieve Default Client Settings again

I have a question about Default Client Settings in SCCM 2012.
In our Default Client Settings we've added two AD groups for Viewers of Remote Control and Remote Assistance (Administration>Client Settings>Default Client Settings>Properties>Remote Tools> Permitted viewers and then Set Viewers).
When I logon to a client computer and open Local User manager I can see these two AD groups added to the local group "ConfigMgr Remote Control Users".
For testing I removed one of the member groups that was added.
Now the question; How does the removed group come back to the client? I've ran all the Configuration Manager Actions on the client but this doesn't work. It doesn't add the member which I removed. I also waited 60 minutes to see if it would come back automatically,
but no. Of course I can manually add this group again, but that is not what I want.
Or is the local group for Remote Control only filled the first time the Configuration Manager Client is installed on a computer? Or maybe there is another mechanism which takes care of filling the Remote Control Users group?

Today I added a new AD group to "Viewers".
After that, I ran the machine policy retrieval on my client on which I previously removed a group. After I ran this, de ConfigMgr Remote Control Users group was filled again. This time with 3 AD groups. So the group I removed before was added again and my new
    group was also added.
Conclusion; if I make a change to the Default Client Settings it will push all the settings again to a client. But if you make a change locally, like removing a group, SCCM won't update this group again. It seems it doesn't do a verify on local settings
unless something has changed in SCCM itself. Indeed it seems to imply a bug.

  • Confused about the default schema

    Hi,
I am a little bit confused about the schema concept.
I want to create a new schema called APP and then create several users and roles based on the schema APP. The default schema for the users should be APP achema.
How can I make the schema APP the default schema for the new users that I am creating?
I feel that there are some schema design concepts that I have to learn. Is there any resource on the internet that I can read and learn more about oracle schema design best practices?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Ali

A schema holds object definitions, and in the case of table & index objects the schema also holds the data.
    A user owns the schema.
Therefore the user 'owns the definitions (including any functions, procedures, sequences, tabels, etc.)
Other users may be granted access to some, or all, of the objects in a schema. This is done through the 'GRANT ...' command. For example, consider the following steps:
    1) create user app_owner
    2) create table object test owned by the app_owwner
    3) create user app_user
    4) grant select, update, insert and delete on app_owner's test table to app_user
    5) add synonyms to avoid needing to qualify the table's schema name.
    done as follows:
    oracle@fuzzy:~> sqlplus system
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon Apr 3 20:07:32 2006

Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
Create the app owner userid. Note there is no need to ever log in to that user, even to create tables.
    SQL> create user app_owner
      2  identified by xyz
      3  account lock
      4  quota unlimited on users
      5  default tablespace users
      6  temporary tablespace temp;
    User created.
Creating objects in a schema can be done by providing the schema name, or by switching schema in newer versions of Oracle
    SQL> create table app_owner.test ( t number );
    Table created.
Create a userid that will access the table. Set that userid up to access the database and (for future) give it the capability to create it's own synonyms
    SQL> create user app_user
      2  identified by xyz
      3  temporary tablespace temp;
    User created.
    SQL> grant create session to app_user;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> grant create synonym to app_user;
    Grant succeeded.
Now give the user access to the objects
    SQL> grant select, update, insert, delete on app_owner.test to app_user;
    Grant succeeded.
Let's test it out. Insert by qualifying the schema name on the object, then create a synonym to avoid using schema, and try it all using the synonym
    SQL> connect app_user/xyz
    Connected.
    SQL> insert into app_owner.test values (4);
    1 row created.
    SQL> create synonym test for app_owner.test;
    Synonym created.
    SQL> insert into test values (3);
    1 row created.
    SQL> select * from test;
             T
             4
             3
SQL>  Note that some people want to use PUBLIC grants and PUBLIC synonyms. This is a real bad idea if you want to ensure long term security of the data and want to host several different applications in the same Oracle instance.
This, and a whole lot more, is in the 'Concepts' manual for your version of the database at http://docs.oracle.com

  • Confused about Color Management in CS5 (Photos appearing differently in all other programs)

I recently noticed this and it's been driving me crazy; when I view photos in Photoshop CS5 they appear significantly lighter/more washed out than when viewed in other programs like Zoombrowser, Digital Photo Professional or just in a regular Windows folder using Filmstrip mode (Windows XP).  When opening the same photo in both CS5 and Zoombrowser and switching back and forth between the two windows the difference is very apparent...for example, one of the photos I compared was of a person in a black shirt -- in CS5 (lighter/washed out) the folds in the shirt were very obvious, but in Zoombrowser (darker, more contrast/saturation) the folds were nearly invisible and it looked like just solid black.  Now, after messing around with the settings in both Photoshop and in Zoombrowser I've found a few ways to get the photos to look the same in the two programs; one way gives them both the lighter/more washed out appearance and another way gives them both the darker appearance with more contrast and saturation.  My problem is that I'm not sure which view is accurate.
I use a NEC MultiSync LCD1990SXi monitor with SpectraView II calibration software and calibrate it every 2 weeks using these calibration settings (screenshot): http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/8826/settingsx.jpg
In the SpectraView II Software under Preferences there's an option that says "Set as Windows Color Management System Monitor Profile - Automatically selects and associates the generated ICC monitor profile with the Color Management System (CMS)."  This option is checked.  Also, when I open the Windows' Color Management window there's only one option displayed, which is "LCD1990SXi #######" (the ####### represents my monitor's serial number).
I assume the above settings are all correct so far, but I'm not sure about the rest.
Here are my current default Color Settings in CS5 (screenshot): http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/666/photoshopcolorsettings.jpg
Changing these settings around doesn't seem to make the photo appear much different.  However, when I go to Edit -> Assign Profile, then click off of "Working RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1" and instead click Profile and select "LCD1990SXi ####### 2011-06-21 18-30 D65 2.20" from the drop-down menu, the picture becomes darker with more contrast and saturation and matches the picture in Zoombrowser.  Also, if I select "Adobe RGB (1998)" from the drop-down menu it's very similar in terms of increased darkness and contrast but the saturation is higher than with the LCD1990SXi setting.  Another way I've found to make the image equally dark with increased contrast and saturation is to go to View -> Proof Setup -> Custom and then click the drop-down menu next to "Device to Simulate" and select "LCD1990SXi ####### 2011-06-21 18-30 D65 2.20" again.
Alternatively, to make both images equally light and washed out I can go to Zoombrowser -> Tools -> Preferences and check the box next to "Color Management: Adjust colors of images using monitor profile."  This makes the image in Zoombrowser appear just like it does in CS5 by default.
Like I said, I'm confused as to which setting is the accurate one (I'm new to Color Management in general so I apologize for my ignorance on the subject).
It would seem that assigning the LCD1990SXi profile in CS5 would be the correct choice in order to match the monitor calibration given the name of the profile but the "Adjust colors of images using monitor profile" option in Zoombrowser sounds like it would do the same thing as well.  Also, I've read that Photoshop is a color managed software whereas Zoombrowser and Windows Picture and Fax Viewer are not which makes me think that maybe the lighter/washed out version seen in Photoshop is correct.  So which version (light or dark) is the accurate one that I should use to view and edit my photos?  Thanks in advance for any help or info.

    Sorry for the late reply;
But before we go there or make any assumptions, it's important for
you to determine whether you're seeing consistent color in your
color-managed applications and only inconsistent color in those that are
not color-managed.  For that you'll need to do a little research to see
if the applications in which you're seeing darker colors have
color-management capability (and whether it is enabled).
I opened the same picture in 7 different applications and found that the 6 of the 7 displayed the photo equally dark with equally high contrast when compared to the 7th application (CS5).  The other 6 applications were Zoombrowser EX, Digital Photo Professional, Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, Quicktime PictureViewer, Microsoft Office Picture Manager and Firefox.
However, at least two of these programs offer color management preferences and, when used, display the photo (from what I can tell) exactly the same as Photoshop CS5's default settings.  The two programs are two Canon programs: Zoombrowser EX and Digital Photo Professional.  Here's the setting that needs to be selected in Zoombrowser in order to match up with CS5 (circled in red):
And here's the setting in Digital Photo Professional that needs to be selected in order to match up with CS5 (again, circled in red):
*Note: When the option above "Monitor Profile" is selected ("Use the OS settings") the image is displayed exactly the same as when the monitor profile is selected.  It's only when sRGB is selected that it goes back to the default darker, more contrasty version.
So with the red-circled options selected, all three programs (CS5, ZB, DPP) display the images the same way; lighter and more washed out.  What I'm still having trouble understanding is if that ligher, more washed out display is the accurate one or not...I've read several tutorials for all three programs which only make things more confusing.  One of the tutorials says to always use sRGB if you want accurate results and *never* to use Monitor Profile and another says that, if you're using a calibrated monitor, you should always select Monitor Profile under the color management settings...so I'm still lost, unfortunately.
What I also don't understand is why, when the monitor profile is selected in CS5, the image is displayed in the dark and contrasty way that the other programs display it as by default but when the monitor profile is selected in Digitial Photo Professional it displays it in the lighter, more washed out way that CS5 displays it using CS5's default settings (sRGB).  Why would selecting the monitor profile in DPP display the photo the same way as when sRGB is selected in Photoshop?  And vice versa...why would selecting the monitor profile in Photoshop display the photo the same way as when sRGB is selected in DPP?
I feel like I'm missing something obvious here...which I probably am.  Again, I'm very new to this stuff so pardon my ignorance on the topic.
By the way, I find that the way that the non-color managed programs (Windows Picture and Fax Viewer et al.) display the photos is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye than the duller, more washed out display that CS5 gives the photos, but ultimately what I want to see in these programs (especially PS5 where I'll be doing the editing) is the accurate representation of the actual photo itself...i.e. what it's supposed to look like and not a darker (or lighter) variant of it.
So just to reiterate my questions:
Why does selecting Monitor Profile under the color management settings in DPP give the same display results as the default sRGB profile in CS5 and vice versa?  (CS5 with monitor profile selected having the same display results as DPP with the sRGB profile selected)
When using CS5 with it's default color management settings (sRGB), using DPP with the Monitor Profile selected, and using Zoombrowser EX with "Adjust color of images using monitor profile" selected this results in all three programs displaying the same lighter, washed-out images...is this lighter, more washed-out display of the images shown in these three programs the accurate one?
I noticed when opening an image in Firefox it had the same darker, contrasty look as the other non-color managed applications had.  Assuming that the CS5 default settings are accurate, does this mean that if I edit a photo in CS5, save it, and upload it to the internet that other people who are viewing that image online will see it differently than how it's supposed to look (i.e. in a non-color-managed way?)  If so, this would seem to indicate that they'd see a less-than-flattering version of the photo since if their browser naturally displays images as darker and more contrasty and I added more darkness and contrast to the image in CS5, they'd be seeing a version of the photo that's far too dark and probably wouldn't look very good.  Is this something I have to worry about as well?
I apologize for the lengthy post; I do tend to be a bit OCD about these things...it's a habit I picked up once I realized I'd been improperly editing photos on an  incorrectly calibrated monitor for years and all that time and effort had been spent editing photos in a certain way that looked good on my incorrectly calibrated monitor but looked like crap on everyone else's screen, so the length and detail of this post comes from a desire to not repeat similar mistakes by editing photos the wrong way all over again.  Again, thanks in advance for all the help, it's greatly appreciated!

  • Default object settings in templates?

I would like to save highlight boxes size and color, mouse
click properties, and others as default object settings for new
recordings. After saving a movie as a template and creating a new
movie from that template, objects in the recordings do not retain
the properties I expected. Is there any way to set these
    defaults?

You can do nothing about the mouse - that I can think of,
anyway. The highlight boxes (including properties) as well as
click-boxes, buttons, text-captions and other objects can be saved
to just one or two slides in another movie, then opened in a 2nd
instance of Captivate to be copied and pasted as needed into the
    "current" project.
Without criticizing "templates", this simple "Library Movie"
concept is similar but without the confusion-factor that some
    people have with templates.
    Have a good day!

  • Confused about transition from MobileMe

Up until now I actually have been happy with MobileMe.  But I wanted to transition to iCloud since MobileMe will shut down at the end of June.
So today, I started the transition to iCloud.  However, I am confused about how to set up all the devices we used to use on MobileMe.  Before our family shared five computers, three iPhones, one iPod Touch and 2 iPads.  Under MobileMe, we were able to all share the calendars and contacts.  Now I have no idea how to have multiple devices share calendars and contacts.  Each person in my family has their own separate Apple ID.  Is there a way that multiple Apple ID's can share on iCloud account?  If so, how do we set that up?  I have no idea how to get one machine to see the general iCloud account.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Actually, that was changed in the iOS 5.1.1 update. You can now stop the phone from defaulting to CDMA by going into Settings>General>Roaming>International CDMA and making sure it's set to "off". While it doesn't sound as if there's any harm in setting Data Roaming to off, I don't think it matters in this circumstance.

  • Change the default margin settings for the MS word!

    Hi All,
    BI Publisher version:latest 10.1.3.4
    DB:10.2.0.4
    Oracle Apps:12.0.6
    OS:AIX
We are facing an issue of which description is as below:
RTF output is being uploaded through "XML Publisher" Responsibility.
3.1.9 Header and Footer Margin from Edge Not Preserved in RTF Output
    This issue applies to Versions 10.1.3.3, 10.1.3.3.1, 10.1.3.3.2, 10.1.3.3.3, 10.1.3.4, and 10.1.3.4.1.
Microsoft Word provides a Page Setup option for specifying the margin for the headers and footers from the edge of the page. This option is available by choosing the File menu, then Page Setup, then the Margins tab, and the From edge box. This margin setting is not retained when the output format is RTF. The output is created with the default margin settings instead. The margin settings do work correctly for other output formats such as HTML, PDF, and Excel.
So, the "default setting" mentioned here is around 1/2 inch for MS Word which is getting added in the output, even if the margin in template is zero.
    Expected output:
So what we need to do is -
    1. Check the MS word installation on the application server
    2. Change this default margin setting as top and bottom 0 on the server in the MS word page setup. (I can give you steps to do this in word if required)
We have tried setting this margin to 0 on client side and generating the output and it makes no difference, so it must be coming from the server.
We need to know how could we modify the settings and need to know te source and Check the MS word installation on the application server?
Could anyone please share such an issue faced before!
    Thanks for your time!
    Regards,

    Hi All,
    Moreover,
Our understanding about the RTF output is this -
When we generate an RTF report output from Oracle EBS, the word document that is generated is with the settings of MS word that is installed on application server.
This understanding could be wrong as we have never faced such situation before! We have come to this conclusion because the default settings that we do on client machine do not work.
And as per the documentation of BI publisher the RTF should always be generated with the default settings of MS word.
So what you could help us with is this -
    1. See if the MS word application is installed on application server ( if you think this is not application server, but any other server then please check there!)
    2. Change the default margin settings for the MS word.

  • TS1717 restoring default factory settings without itunes as both may have malware

How can I restoring default factory settings without itunes on my ipod 1 and ipod 3rd generation, as both may have malware aswell as 3 laptops, 2 mobile, TV snd BluRay Browser.
any advice will be greatly appreciated.
have tried to disinfect with Kaspersky products but the malware just overwrites everything that is put into the p.c. so I need to use just the pad itself, that is, of course, if it allows me access.
theres nothing like a ipad scorned, ask my weary eyes. cheers

yep, unfortunately can't reset without the passcode either.
With regards to doing a restore, do you mean:
    open itunes on my computer
click on my device on the left
    go to the device summary
    click restore
it then asks if i want to back up before i restore (to which i say no)
then it asks me if i'm sure I want to restore to factory settings and that all of me media and data will be erased and replaced with the newest version ( to which I say yes)
then it takes about 90 mins to do this but when I look at my phone, everything is exactly the same.
Am I missing something? Obviously I'm technologically challenged, but I HAVE to get to the bottom of this!

  • PSE 7 confusion about folder location, help needed

Here's some background: I'm using PhotoShop Elements 7 on Win XP.  I have an external firewire hard drive I use for overflow/backups.  Originally, this showed up as a K: drive on my system.
I added a RAID controller and two more drives to stripe as a single drive for temp space rendering movies.  This ended up as a K: drive and the external moved to L:  However, when I did this there were some pictures from my catalog that I had on the external drive.  I have used File > reconnect missing files to handle the moves, but PSE is still confused (very).
PSE has started to mix up the RAID (K:) and external (L:) content.  If I move a set of pictures (e.g. a folder of them) onto the external drive (L:) via drag and drop in the folder location view, the folder will show up empty on the L: heirarchy, but will show up as a gray folder icon in the K: RAID drive hierarchy.  If I open up windows explorer, the RAID drive will appear empty.  In other cases (I'm not sure when/how yet), pictures physically end up on the RAID drive itself instead of the external.  I have uninstalled both the external drive and the RAID drive and reinstalled them both, but they are still getting confused in the folder view by PSE.  I've also tried moving content outside of PSE and just reconnecting missing files, but it still wants to put things under the K: RAID drive instead of the external L:.
I've searched everywhere I can think of for a description of what gray folder icons in the folder location view means and can find none.  I'm not sure how to convince PSE that there's nothing on the RAID K: drive and it shouldn't try to connect the two.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Thank you!  I ran psedbtool and the output shows the catalog has the wrong drive letter for the L: drive.
Is there a way to make PSE forget about the K: and L: drives that it is so confused about so that it can relearn of their existence?  If I use the drive letter reassignment to fix PSE, it will break other apps that are now dependent on the current drive letter assignments.  I've tried removing all files from the L: drive, but it's still remembered as part of the catalog.
    Thanks,
    Jim

I am confused about Icloud. I have a 5 year old Macbook, a 2 year old macbook and a 5 year old mac mini. What exactly do I need to do to get all this connected via Icloud. I also have an Iphone 3G. Help please! Also, I still don't understand exactly what the benefits are. At the moment it seems a lot of hassle to change a system that's been working perfectly well and that I'm very happy with. I'm not at all sure whether the mac mini (1.66 GHz INtel Core Duo) can be brought up to the relevant spec to run ICloud.  Any thoughts?

There are two aspects to iCloud.  One is simply getting an account, or migrating a mobileme account to iCloud.  The second part is using the various features of iCloud to sync contacts, calendars, use music match or photo sharing, and store iWorks documents.
First to get an iCloud account:
If you have a mobileme account, you can migrate by simply logging onto www.icloud.com (ignore any references to Lion and just click through to complete the migration).  If you have OS X Lion or an iOS 5 mobile device, you can create an iCloud account on that device using any valid AppleID.
Once you have an account, you can use JUST the mail account if you wishi - it is a standard IMAP account so you would set it up like any other IMAP email account you have, in whatever client program you use to read email.
To use the OTHER feautes of iCloud, your computers will have to be running OS X Lion (10.7).  Your iPhone 3G will never be able to use iCloud as it cannot run iOS 5 (you need a min. of an iPhone 3GS to run iOS 5).
The requirements for OS X Lion are here - http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html  You need a min. of a Core 2 duo processor so you mini is not capable of running Lion.
So, in your case, the single reasons for iCloud would be if you have a mobileme account, then use the online www.icloud.com to migrate your account so you do not lose your @me.com email address.  You can use iCloud email (without using any other iCloud features) by setting it up as IMAP mail with these settings - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
If you want an iCloud account and do NOT already have a mobileme account, you will need to upgrade one machine at least to Lion in order to be able to create an iCloud account.

  • Confusion about recovery

    Hi ,
I am new to the DBA field and I have a confusion about recovery.
The confusion is if a database is in noarchivelog mode can a database be recovered from commited changes that were there in the redo log files ?
If I provide the path name of the redo log files while using recover database using cancel will it work at all given that the database is in noarchivelog mode ?
Please help to clear my doubts..

Oracle can use the Online Redo Logs for Recovery. Normally this happens in the case of Instance Recovery (e.g. from a server crash or shutdown abort) -- where the datafiles are not restored from a prior backup.
If you restore datafiles from a prior backup, you are doing a media recovery. In NOARCHIVELOG mode, you could not have run a backup with the database OPEN, so the backup would have been run with the database SHUTDOWN or MOUNTed. At the subsequent startup, transactions would be in the online redo logs only until LGWR does a "wrap around" and overwrites the first redo log used after the startup. It is only within this window that transactions are in the redo logs.+
Remember that LGWR uses a "round-robin" algorithm to cycle through the online redo logs. So, if the Online Redo Log that was CURRENT at the time of the backup has been overwritten, you cannot use the Online Redo Logs for a RECOVERy+._
You must also ensure that there are no NOLOGGING operations !!
One thing that you might trip up on is the behaviour of CTAS. A "CREATE TABLE AS SELECT" is, by default LOGGING in an ARCHIVELOG database. However, it is automatically a Direct Path operation in a NOARCHIVELOG database ! So the blocks for such a table would be "corrupt" if you attempt a recovery from the Online Redo Log as the row inserts are not captured.

  • Confusion about Kodo and JCA

    Hi,
I'm a bit confused about Kodo's Connection Architecture strategy. It is my understanding that
PMF's can be built to use the connection architecture. Along this line, one would configure the
ConnectionFactory or ConnectionFactoryName, and possibly the ConnectionFactory2 and
ConnectionFactory2Name properties in a PMF. The result of the PMF implementation supporting the
connection architecture is nice integration with the application servers in terms of security,
transaction, and connection management. One can lookup in JNDI a reference to a Kodo PMF that
supports datastore transactions or to another one that supports optimistic transactions or to
another one that supports NTR, and with proper settings of the transactional properties and suitable
application code, one's sesson bean will work.
But from what I can see of Kodo's JDOPersistenceManagerFactory class, it, itself, implements the
ManagedConnectionFactory interface, meaning, I think, that this class is resource adaptor. And that
the part that confuses me. Why would Kodo be a resource adaptor? I thought it used a resource
adaptor, which I think is the same thing as a connection factory.
Anyway, I'm puzzled, and I'm hoping that someone could straighten me out.
    David Ezzio

    David-
The fact that Kodo can integrate into an application server as a
Resource Adaptor, and section 3.2.2 of the specification that says that
the PersistentManagerFactory should be able to utilize a Resource
Adaptor to obtain connections to the data store are two separate issues.
We implement Kodo itself as a Resource Adaptor in order to provide ease
of integration into recent application servers. Your confusion is
understandable, since we do not actually yet support the use of Resource
Adaptors as the Connection Factories as per section 3.2.2.
    Does that make sense?
