Connect a Firebird database to Oracle XE?

Hi.
A customer of mine uses a Firebird database for one on his systems. I need to set up a connection to this database. There is an ODBC driver for the firebird so I can get ODBC to work.
My first question:
Can I set up Heterogeneous Connectivity in an Oracle Express?

I've already answered the very same question you asked: you can.
Take a look at this guide

    Hai,
Can any one suggest as to how I can connect MS-Access database
with Oracle Developer Forms. What is the procedure ? Suggest me
if I need to install any drivers. Waiting for an early reply.
    Warm Regards,
    Raghav.

Not possible as far as I know.
Probably because ODBC itself (the defined interface) doesn't support it.
There is a commercial MS Access (java only) driver that might support it.

Server and/or port attributes are empty {HY000,NativeErr = 33}Always test ODBC client connectivity on the Oracle server to the remote and foreign database, first. Use the isql ODBC client command line interface (as the oracle or grid o/s user).
If this does not work, then Oracle HSO will also not work.
Once you have confirmed that this is working, then configure the HSO service for Oracle.
If that fails, enables ODBC client tracing for that HSO service (in the init file for that service) to see exactly what ODBC calls Oracle is making and which of these are failing.

  • Connect to different Databases like Oracle, SqlServer,Access,Db2

    Hi all,
i'm in the process of developing an application using jsp , which should be capable of connecting to all datbases like Oracle, SQL Server,Access DB2, Sybase etc,
    How can i establish that?
Also what all are things i need to take care, which are specific to each of these databases, like datatype differences etc?
Any information or links with sample codes is helpfull.
    regards.
    Isaac

Theoretically if you use just the JDBC API then you should be able to access all these databases. This will be true if you're not using 'exotic' datatypes or functionality. If you are, then you may be in for problems - for example I've had problems with clobs and Oracle that required Oracle specific code, which goes against what you're doing. If that happens, just have call outs to helper classes that use the vendor specific stuff, and only load these classes if you detect that particular JDBC driver, and abstract these vendor specific classes to a standard interface.

  • Connecting to multi databases from Oracle Forms

I am trying to connect to 2 databases from my form. The primary
connection is to a datbase where reports information(i.e. Report
name, parameters) is saved. When the form runs and user picks a
report to run, i want to change connection to a different
database which reports runs against. I am using Forms6.0 against
    8I database.
    Can any one help ??
    Thanks

Database links are the only answer if you need distributed
    transactions.
If you only want to access several different databases without
transaction coordination between those, then, you may use the
facilities of the EXEC_SQL built-in package.

  • Question about connection to firebird database

Hi I'm a new JDBC programmer. I picked firebird because the application I wanted to make needed a server-less database. The database was easy to set up (I'm using the classic version of firebird) with isql, and I am now trying to access it through the JDBC. Here is my code, I know the code may be crude looking (I am new to it).
            try
                Class.forName("org.firebirdsql.jdbc.FBDriver");
                Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:firebirdsql:localhost/3050:C:/test.gdb", "sysdba", "masterkey");
            catch(ClassNotFoundException e)
                System.out.println(e.getMessage());
            catch(SQLException e)
                System.out.println(e.getMessage());
}With this code, I recieved the following exception...:

well, apparently you do NOT have the correct version of the Java runtime set up as the one you're actually calling, as that's the only thing that can cause this error.
Most likely there's fragments of an older installation left floating around the system in directories that are higher in the path than your JDK.
Check for example your windows/system32 directory for java*.exe and if they're there, remove them.
After that set up your system path correctly to point to your JAVA_HOME/bin (you should also define JAVA_HOME in your environment variables to point to the JDK installation directory).
The Firebird driver I think is compiled against JDK 1.4, maybe 1.3, so the error is almost certainly caused by your own code being compiled against 1.6 and you're attempt to run it (unwittingly) against 1.5.

  • Problem in connecting to database using oracle jdbc thin driver

    hi

    i am getting following error:
java.sql.sqlexception:Io exception: the network adapter could not establish the connection
Io exception: the network adapter could not establish the connection
the connection string has the property of using a dedicated server
for this reason i have put USE_DEDICATED_SERVER=ON in sqlnet.ora file...
we did not face this problem while connecting to other databases which do not have the property of dedicated server in their connection string in tnsnames.ora file.
please suggest a solution for this.
    thanks and regards,
    asif

If you are using the thin driver, sqlnet.ora does not come into play. None of Oracle networking does. That is one of the great things about using the thin driver, no need to have the client installed.
That error is due to incorrect connection info you are supplying or the machine you are connection from can't ping the machine it is trying to connect to.

However, I could access to the database using this set of username and password. Am I missing something? Thanks.

    Hi,
After a successful installation of forms 10g in vista, I'm about to run OPatch Universal Installer for the patch 7047034
in order to fix the form bugs. However, I cannot run the command "opatch apply C:\oracle_form\Patch26_Rel_10105\7047034"
with the error "The Oracle Home c:\devsuitehome_1 is not registered with the Central Inventory.". Then I try to create a
oraInst.loc file, but not much change still. The situation is that oracle 10g is installed before oracle developer suite
10g, and when I try to set oracle_home to oracle 10g's path ("C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1") and run "opatch lsinventory",
it returns the correct result; when oracle developer suite 10g's path ("c:\devsuitehome_1") is set as the oracle_home,
the same command would return a different result as "LsInventory: OPatch Exception while accessing O2O".
I've verified through Oracle Universal Installer that the Central Inventory has included both as oracle_home (oracle 10g
and oracle developer suite 10g). I'm very confused now, though it seems that the problem could be solved by registering the
Central Inventory with oraacle developer suite 10g's path. Thanks.

  • I can not connect to my database

I am using Oracle9i JDeveloper on Windows machine and when I try to connect to my database in Oracle 8.x.x on Linux RH8 machine, I receive the following error message:
I/O exception:The network adapter could not establish the connection.
I tried to modify some parameters in the connection and I receive this error message:
    I/O exception:Connection refused (DESCRIPTION=(TMP=)(VSNNUM=135294976)(ERR_STACK=(ERROR=(CODE(=12505)(EMFI=4))))
    What is wrong?
Where can I find the list of JDBC errors?
What is the VSNNUM, and EMFI?

You have an TNS-12505 here, here's the info from the docs about it:
TNS-12505 TNS:listener could not resolve SID given in connect descriptor
Cause: The SID in CONNECT_DATA was not found in the listener's tables.
Action: Check to make sure that the SID specified is correct. The SIDs that are currently registered with the listener can be obtained by typing "LSNRCTL SERVICES listener_name". These SIDs correspond to SID_NAMEs in TNSNAMES.ORA, or DB_NAMES in the INIT.ORA file.
Your SID is not correct here, did you specify the SERVICE_NAME instead of the SID?
    Hope this helps,
    Rob

  • Creating table in other databases than Oracle

    Hi
It would be nice to be able to create tables in a JDBC Connection in other databases than Oracle. Why limit it to Oracle when there is a SQL standard to work with?
    Regards,
    Fredrik

Generic SQL isn't really as generic as people would like to believe.
In any case, we're working on that for an upcomming release, but with the current time constraints, we just got the Oracle table creation support done.
(The time is more on testing than writing the feature)
It'll get in there, but probably not in the next release.
