Connect locally via IP Address

I am setting up a MAMP Pro development environment and I would like to use the feature that lets me share a website that I am working on over the internet. I would provide people with my IP Address and they would be able to see what I am working on.
The problem I am having is letting other computers see my iMac. I have a MacBook Air that I use as well but I can see that from the iMac just fine. I can type the IP address for the MacBook Air into the address bar of Chrome and I'll get a page that simply says, "It Works". I can also type 'mymacbokairexxx.local' into the address bar and establish a connection.
When type the local ip address of the iMac into the MacBook Air I get nothing; a can't connect page from Chrome. Same for the the joshs-imacxxx.local' routine.
I can use AIr Drop and Back to my Mac for both computers in both directions. I have checked the Time Capslue and nothing obvious pops out. I have made my iMac's sharing settings look like my MacBook Air's since those seem to work. Still nothing.

below is sample code for rmi client.
if you know the ip address of rmi registry, use that in place of ip_address_of _rmiregisty
if you only know a dns name of rmiregistry, you should use dns server or ask system administrator the ip address of rmiregistry.
if there's firewall between client and server, ask your system administrator.
if there's nat between client and server, I don't know exactly.
good luch ^^
import java.rmi.*;

    public static void main(String[] args)    throws Exception {
        if (System.getSecurityManager() == null) {
            System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager());
        IHello h =
                (IHello)Naming.lookup(
                          "rmi://ip_address_of _rmiregisty/object_identifier/b] "
String str = h.sayHello("John");
System.out.println(str);
} // main
} // HelloRMIClient class

  • Bug: DatagramChannel bind/connect local address

    What are the chances of getting bug 6431343 fixed in JRockit?
    Basically, I need to be able to send a message from a specific local UDP port, and I also need to know the local address that the message will originate from.
    So when I bind using
    channel.socket().bind(new InetSocketAddress(9999));
    and then connect to the remote address
    channel.connect(new InetSocketAddress("localhost", 0));
    Then DatagramChannel should report the local address that any messages will originate from when I call
    channel2.socket().getLocalSocketAddress();
    but it instead seems to return a cached copy of the wildcard address as the local address.
    However, the behavior IS correct in a plain DatagramSocket.
    Here's a link to the bug:
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6431343
    Thanks very much for your attention.

    As you have assumed, we use Sun's networking code and therefore inherit their bugs. All bugs that Sun fix are fixed in the JRockit version with the same JDK level (i.e. Sun 5.0u8 -> JR 5.0u8).
    However, if you have a support contract with BEA (for JRockit, WebLogic etc) then you can open a ticket with BEA Support. The issue will be investigated, and if it is critical and no good workaround can be found then you will be provided with a patch.

  • Isight connect via ip address

    I just bought an imac (first time mac user) and i would like to use the isight camera to connect to my parents (who are deaf) video phone via ip address. Can this be done? I don't see a way to do it with ichat is there another application that i can use?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, jonesyusa
    You are right that iChat will NOT connect directly to your parents' video phone.
    If your parents use some kind of Sorenson video phone, try the suggestions that
    helped user BroadwayBound96 at this post:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4876286&#4876286
    If your parent's video phone is by another vendor, substitute that vendor's name and contact info in the suggestions offered in the above link.
    The only other difference is that iChat System Requirements for the new Leopard version of iChat (iChat 4) is shown in this Apple knowledge-base article.

  • Script to get Serial number of a Dockingstation via IP address of connected laptop

    Is there a script to get Serial number of a Dockingstation via IP address of the laptop ?

    If the vendor exposes it via WMI on any level it's possible using Powershell or vbScript by leveraging WMI.
    GET-WMIOBJECT win32_bios -computername 10.0.0.10
    in Powershell will pull up BIOS details on the laptop in Powershell for a remote workstation of IP address 10.0.0.10
    It would depend on your vendor (IE: Dell) where in WMI the Docking station might make the change.  I would hazard it as "probably not" though.

  • ICloud Deleted  Local Contacts From Address Book

    Okay, so I tried setting up an iCloud account so a family member could receive texts and messages via iChat. That was the original goal. I successfully set up an account, but iChat does not allow me to login via the iCloud account that I had set up. After sever attempts I decided to put that on the back burner until I had a little more time to look into it. In doing so I seem to have caused some other collateral damage which I didn't anticipate (see below).
    Unfortunately, as I logged out of iCloud on the iMac, it wiped/deleted every last contact that was in the address book. My question is: How can I get them back?
    I suspect that there is a "previous" or "prior" image of the data what was there. I'm guessing that Apple put some type of safeguard in place for just such an occurrance, though I could be wrong.
    The Machine is a 2011 27" iMac running 10.7.5. The last backup of the address book that I can get to is from 2011. Actually it's the Address Book Folder in users>Library>Applications Support.   I made a copy of the entire system drive AFTER everything was migrated over from the old system that was replaced, and have it on an external drive.
    Some notes:
    - Time Machine was not active or on
    - iCloud was never activated until just recently
    - the person does not own an iDevice with any of the contacts
    - iCloud does not seem to show any contacts to even bring back onto the iMac
    It seems like a really silly thing to have any local data removed AT ALL upon signing out of iCloud. What's on the machine should remain on the machine unless the enduser literally goes out of there way to purposly delete the information stored there. There should be no dialog box what so ever even indicating that data will be removed, and even if the data was removed there should be an easy way to undo the action in case the enuser misinterpreted the action. Before any of the data is removed from the local the information (or at least a copy of it) should have been automatically stored to the cloudspace PRIOR. Why on earth would Apple set it up in such a way where the default is to delete any local data at all?

    No. Absolutely not. We'll just have to agree to disagree. iCloud should be able to be turned on or off on any given device associated with said account. Local stores should be synchronized and that synchronization should happen continuously if connected. When not connected, local stores should maintain their state. What would be the purpose of even bothering to "sync". Or are you saying that in effect everything is copied to a central location (ie the cloud) and any devices wanting access to that data need to be "signed in", and in effect becoming nul terminals with no local store? Why should the default assume users would want to delete the synchronized data upon sign out?  iCloud should be a "use as needed" tool and not an "either/or" tool. In this case *it* should have backed the data up to begin with. That is the purpose after all. I (wrongfully) assumed in haste that the information was backed up or copied elsewhere and that even if I chose to delete it from the local device, I would still have access to it because it was stored "somewhere". And if the data wasn't synced/backed up to "the cloud" upon sign-in, then a friendly reminder alerting the user that now data had yet been saved would certainly go a long way. But this derails the entire thread. All I want to know is whether or not there is a way to retrieve the data that was erased from the iMac?

  • Spring 3.0 jmx on WL 10.3.3: JConsole connects locally, but not remotely

    I have a Spring 3.0 app running on WebLogic 10.3.3. It registers a Spring bean with JMX. When I run it locally on my laptop, JConsole can connect "locally" and view and manipulate the JMX bean.
    When I deploy the same EAR to WL 10.3.3 on a Solaris/X86 VM, I'm unable to connect with a "remote" connection from JConsole. In the "Remote Process" field, I entered "IP:port", where IP is the IP address of the VM, and port is the listen port of the managed server. I also tried the port of the admin server, but both eventually fail with an EOFException.
    Is there something I need to configure to get this working?

    David,
    Just to verify, are you running JConsole as the following options (I have had issues in the past just running JConsole.exe without these)
    C:\>jconsole -J-Djava.class.path=C:/opt/wls1031_l16/jdk160_11/lib/jconsole.jar;C:/opt/wls1031_l16/jdk160_11/l
    ib/tools.jar;C:/opt/wls1031_l16/wlserver_10.3/server/lib/wljmxclient.jar -J-Djmx.remote.protocol.provider.pkgs=weblogic.management.remote -J-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote
    And are you using either of the following methods to connect
    service:jmx:rmi:///jndi/iiop://127.0.0.1:7001/weblogic.management.mbeanservers.runtime
    or
    service:jmx:t3://127.0.0.1:7001/jndi/weblogic.management.mbeanservers.runtime
    username/password = weblogic console username/password
    Alternatively have you tried JRMC.exe JRockit Mission Control?
    There are instructions on the following wiki to connect to WebLogic MBeans via either JConsole or JRMC viewers.

  • Is it possible to trace unauthorized users? (via ip address or terminal id)

    Hi friends
    I was wondering if you can help me out with our Logon Securities predicament: We have set up some generic apps ids that are only known to a handful of users. Regular but unauthorized users are trying to sign-on using these generic ids by guessing the password and end up locking them when they exceed sign-on attempts. Is it possible to trace these unauthorized users? (via ip address or terminal id?) (We are on 11.5.10)
    Thanks in advance
    Ankur

    We look at the time of the failure from the fnd_unsuccessful_logins and then correlate it with the AppsLocalLogin.jsp entries in the apache access logs. The ip address is in the access_log.
    If you have a lot of logon failures combined with a lot of logons it may be tough to find the offending users but it might help you. Most of our users connect via SSO so finding our offenders are relatively easy. Very few users logon with AppsLocalLogin in our environment.

  • Restricting access via MAC address?

    Hello,
    Could someone please tell me how to restrict access to my wireless network (and internet sharing) by only allowing computers with a certain MAC address to join?
    I'm kinda stumbling around here
    Thanks,
    Jonny

    Sorry if I wasn't being specific enough...
    I have my eMac set up as a Software Base Station, which streams internet & Airtunes to an Airport Express. I have it set up this way, because my ADSL modem is connected via USB (so it's a bit of a workaround). As a result, I have Internet Sharing switched on, so I can access it from all my other macs.
    What I want to do is to stop other people from accessing my eMac's internet connection. If I set up a WEP password for Internet Sharing, I lose my Airtunes facility... so I was thinking another way might be to restrict access to the connection via MAC address. I only want my other airport card-equipped macs to access the internet connection and network generally.
    Surely it's possible?

  • DHCP via Mac Address

    I have a Cisco 831 router. I am handing out DHCP to my network via the router
    ip dhcp pool HmPrivate
    network 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
    default-router 192.168.1.1
    dns-server 192.168.1.20
    domain-name hmprivate.net
    What I am trying to do is assign the same ip address to my laptop via DHCP by associating the mac address of the laptop to the DHCP ip address. This is easily done on a windows server.
    I have not been able to figure it out on this router though. I have looked at the commands under the pool as well as in config mode. Nothing is jumping out at me.
    Any assistance is greatly appreaciated!

    Ok I powered up my laptop got an ip address from the rtr of 192.168.1.21. On the router i did a sh arp to get my hardware address of 0015.0025.60aa. I then created the new DHCP pool for the static entry. From my windows laptop i do an ipconfig / release then a ipconfig / renew. I keep getting the 192.168.1.21 address and not the 192.168.1.13 address that I want.
    Am I missing something really simple here? Why wont the laptop grab the 192.168.1.13 address?

  • Connect iPad via SSLVPN (clientless) and RDP

    Hello,
    I have been reading through the other discussions here as well as the ask the expert from last year about connecting iPads via SSLVPN specifically for creating an RDP session. I am looking for clarification to make sure that I understand everyhit correctly. The only way for an iPAD to make an RDP session is to run the full client then use an RDP client on the iPAD. This is due to the iPAD not being able to use the java based RDP plugin. The drawback here if I understand right is that the device is fully on the network with the client running. This means that any potential adware/spyware/virus/whatever would have network access because of the full client.
    Is there something that I am missing or is there a way to lock things down to keep the iPAD fully off the network? Can I configure the portal to say use only specific ports to minimize this exposure? We are looking into ways to allow users to remotely connect but not allow them to use the full client. They would remotely connect through a portal to either their company asset or RDP to a terminal server for connectivity. For the windows based folks this is starting to look like a really good solution. This issue is starting to arise that more and more people are starting to get the iPADS instead of standard laptops.
    Anyone addressing this with a different method or solution?
    Thanks in advance ...
    Brent

    Are you using DAP policies or radius authentication? You can have the radius server hand the class attribute in order to place the client in the correct DAP policy. In that DAP policy create a logical expression for the ipad and reference a split tunnel so that rdp traffic (tcp port 3389) is permitted through is protected through the tunnel.
    Hope this helps!

  • Cannot connect synology via Mac book

    Hi  I am lost,
    Since I had an IP conflict within my network, I cannot connect my synology DS212 NAS anymore to my mac book pro. The strange thing is that I have no issue with connecting with eacht other device to the nas like windows laptop Iphone Ipad. I think there is still something wrong with IP addresses but when I run the synology assistant to find the NAS, the ip address is located but get's the message the connection failed
    Would be great if somebody has some tips or tricks.
    Thanks Jack

    Hi, both protocols  are supported, get still an error with the following message " there is a problem with connecting to serve 192.168.0.193" the server does not excist or is not accessable. Check the servername or the ip address fromthe server, check network connection and try again.  In my opinion network is ok because otherwise i could not connect also via another device. thks

  • Macbook connecting to apple IP address

    I have just recently been teaching myself about network security and as such have been playing around with netstat. Upon using the utility immediately I noticed that I had 2 established connections to apple IP addresses on very high port numbers as seen below. FYI I have updated my macbook from Mountain Lion to Mavericks.
    Proto Recv-Q Send-Q  Local Address          Foreign Address        (state)
    tcp4       0      0  192.168.2.1.56896     17.167.140.46.https    ESTABLISHED
    tcp4       0      0  192.168.2.1.56893     17.172.232.158.5223    ESTABLISHED
    Keep in mind that those connections are established IMMEDIATELY after establishing my internet connection even with no other programs open. I then checked my girlfriend's Snow Leopard macbook and she does not establish any TCP connections when no programs are open.
    I am wondering if this is normal behavior for a mac and if its a simple matter of Apple securing a connection to check for software updates or if this is something I can look into. I have read that TCP connections on high port numbers are often suspicious and should be checked out further and I can't find anything online about this being normal mac behaviour.

    Gonna answer my own question here as I continued to dig and using a couple more option flags discovered it was a apsd process aka apple push notification service daemon. Still... the very high port number that it uses seems suspect to me. Anyone know exactly what XSAN file system is since those port numbers are associated with it and Apple?

  • Jdbc connection set source ip address

    Hi
    Is there any way to specify the local (source) ip address of a jdbc connection ?
    I work in an enterprise environment with firewalls all over, and only certain ip addresses can connected to other ip addresses.
    The server which runs my application has many ip addresses and
    I'd like to be sure that my ip address is the source...

    No, certainly not in the JDBC API. I don't believe there's even a way to do this in the java.net Socket API. There's the very slimmest of slim chances that a particular driver might implement something like this, in which case it would be in the driver's documentation. However, the chances are so slim that I'd bet strongly against any driver doing this.
    The source address is usually picked by the operating system, based on the routability to the target IP address. Basically, the OS network services looks at the target IP and says to itself, "which (logical) interface can get there? That's the source IP I will use". If your host's routing says there are multiple routes to the IP, then it will pick one; if there's only one route to the particular IP, there will be only one interface (and therefore source IP) that can be chosen.
    There's no reason Java or a driver couldn't be extended to do this, but no particular demand either; the problem is usually dealt with at the network layer.
