Connect SQL server source from OWB

Hi,
I have to connect to SQL Server source from OWB.
I am using OWB 10.2 version and Owb is installed on UNIX platform.
I have created system DSN, made respective entries in hs/admin and edited listener.ora file.
In OWB Non-Oracle sorces trying to connect with ODBC connection to SQL server source.
It is throwing erorr 'ORA-28545:error diagonised by Net8 agent when connecting to an agent Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 65535
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from OWB-2339'
How to check System DSN is setup properly on UNIX or not.
Could anyone help out on this.

Hi David,
I have created db link and queried with select statement.
It has thrown following error.
" ORA-12537: TNS:connection closed".
And, I don't know how to use "trace level gateway service configuration property in the service .ora file".
I want to start from the first.
Could you please give me the guidelines on, how to connect to a Sql server source(Which is on Remote Server) from OWB.
What are the prerequisites and steps.
Thanks for your help,
Shaik.

  • Connect SQL Server 2012 from Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0

    Hi,
    I currently have a setup where ETL tool Ab Intio, running on a Linux server, connects to the SQL Server 2005 through a passthrough Wintel server with Windows Server 2003 OS using SQL server native client 9.0
    Now I have the requirement to upgrade the SQL server from 2005 to 2012.
    My question is, will it be possible to connect to SQL server 2012 through Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0?
    As per the specs, I need native client 11.0+ to fully support SQL Server 2012, but then, as per specs, native client 11.0 doesnot run on Windows server 2003. OS upgradation is currently not on the cards.
    So will it be possible to the run the basic queries we use currently, if we can connect SQL server 2012 through Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0/10.0, without updgrading the OS of the Wintel server?
    Thanking you in advance!

    Hi Soumya,
    Yes, you can use the SQL Server Native Client shipped with SQL Server 2005 to connect to a SQL Server 2012 instance, and there is no need to upgrade the operating system.

  • Failing to connect SQL Server 2005 from SAP

    I'm trying to connect SQL database to write some data to an external sql table. But it's failing giving below message,
    Error Message returned from "ADBC_TEST_CONNECTION" program:
    Testing a Database Connection Defined in DBCON
    Could not open connection EACT_MESSAGES
    sql error          1- occured:
    Login timeout expired
    I can connect from .NET Applications using the same connection string configuration.
    What could be the reason for this.
    Do I need to enable some service for this in SQL server. I have enabled all possible SQL related services.
    But still no luck.

    I found a solution..
    Instead putting the server name, used IP address which is static. that solved the issue.

  • Creating dynamic database connection (SQL server 2008) from Adf application

    Hello,
    I am creating an ADF Fusion Application. I use Jdev. 11.1.2.3.0 , WebLogic 10.3 and MS SQL server 2008 database. My question is that how can I create a database connection configuration file, now I connect to the database through hard coding, there should be a way to do this with sql server I think.
    my database name is : testDatabase
    my database username is : testUser
    my database password is : testPassword
    Anybody can help me please.
    Thanks,
    Shahe

    Hello Frank,
    The database schema is the same for all the users, but the location of the database differs, for example: I have set the hostname of the database to localhost because the database is installed on the local pc, but to other clients the database is installed on a managed server so in the hostname I should put the server's ip address or name. So I need an external file where I can set these options.
    Thanks,

    Hi Friends, I am getting so many errors while doing SQL Server 2005 conversion from SQL Developer. SQL developer version 1.2 is very bad, so I downloaded version 1.5. Still so many errors.

    Some issues with SQL Developer.
    Ex: if sequence is there, it is not dropping and creating again. Even though I created new fresh schema, still I am getting the same error.

    Have a look at the following document, it explains how to use a MS Access database but it should also work when using a ODBC Data source configured for a MS SQL database.

  • How to create a SQL SERVER MODULE IN OWB

    Hello. Any body can help me with this. I need to access a SQL Server DataBase from OWB.
    Need your help.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Take a look at the main [ SQL Developer page on OTN|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html]. There is a link you should find useful, it's the Getting Started link under the Migration section. This explains how to download and setup the drivers you need to correct to non-Oracle databases. There are also links to online demonstrations on how to create connections to these databases. See how you go with that material.
    It should help.

  • Importing SQL Server NTEXT into OWB (Warehouse Builder)

    Hi all,
    I'm having trouble using a SQL Server source in OWB. I need to import a NTEXT column and it casts to a LONG in Oracle, so I'm not able to select the imported data. Everything is working fine, except this NTEXT source values.
    Has OWB any parameters to import such NTEXT values? How can I read SQL Server data that is assumed as LONG values?
    Thanks in advance
    Best regards
    Jose

    Let me add to this question: is there any way to control the way OWB casts data types from non-Oracle database sources? I am importing metadata from SQL Server databases that have one or more columns of type XML. OWB also casts these as LONG, and when I try to access the data I get the message "Invalid use of LONG data type". If I change the column data type in the object editor to XMLTYPE, I still get the error, and cannot view the data.

  • How to connect sql server using oracle Client

    Hi,
    I am working in oracle9i and windows os 32 bit.
    I need to connect SQL server 2000 from my oracle client..
    I heard about heterogeneous connectivity ...
    Please expalin me the steps what to add and how to connect the sql server...
    Regs....

    Are you trying to connect to SQL Server from your Oracle database (i.e. create a database link in Oracle to SQL Server)? Or are you trying to connect to SQL Server using your Oracle client software (i.e. SQL*Plus)?
    The former just requires Heterogeneous Services with Generic Connectivity. The latter is functionality that has been depricated and probably no longer works in your environment.

  • Connecting SQL Server 2008 + CF8 mac

    Hello,
    I am currently porting all of our access databases to SQL Server 2008 and i am using a mac for development. If anyone can tel me how to connect sql server database from the cfadmin on mac to a virtual environment on parallels 5. In the cfadmin on mac SQL Server is listed as a kown datasource you can connect to but the only way i see to do this is thru a virtual environment or remote.
    Please help
    Thanks,
    D

    Having not used Parallels in some time I couldn't say for sure, but essentially that SQL engine needs to be accessible from Coldfusion on an IP address somewhere. Depending on what networking mode you're using, that'll either be:
    1 - Its own IP
    2 - Localhost, or 127.0.0.1
    As long as your ColdFusion instance has network access to the SQL box, there's no additional config required.

  • Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE 11G(on 64 bit Linux box)

    We are unable to connect to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE 11G which is on 64 bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
    Infrastructure: OBIEE 11.1.1.5 64bit, on 64 bit Red Hat Linux Enterprise Linux 5.6 , MS SQL Server 2008 on 64 bit Microsoft Windows Server
    Issue Description: Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE11G RPD
    Details: We are unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE which is on a 64 bit Linux box. We created the ODBC connection on Linux box to the SQL server. Whenever we try to import metadata it throws an error that says ‘Connection Failed’.
    Here are the steps we followed to setup the ODBC connection on Linux box.
    1) We updated the user.sh file with the LD_LIBRARY_PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH_64 values that point to $ORACLE_HOME/bifoundation/odbc/lib
    This is where we found the driver for SQL server SEmsss23.so.
    2) We updated the odbc.ini file with the entry for SQL server with the connection details
    SI_SQL_Server_DEV = SQL Server
    [SI_SQL_Server_DEV]
    Driver=/u001_OAS/Oracle/Middleware/Oracle_BI1/bifoundation/odbc/lib/SEmsss23.so
    Description=DataDirect 5.1 SQL Server Wire Protocol
    Address=10.230.216.52,54970
    AlternateServers=
    AnsiNPW=Yes
    ConnectionRetryCount=0
    ConnectionRetryDelay=3
    Database=SVBDW_NEW
    LoadBalancing=0
    LogonID=SIDatavalidation
    Password=~~~Password123
    QuoteID=No
    ReportCodePageConversionErrors=0
    3) We updated the IDENTIFIER_QUOTE_CHAR with single quotes instead of double quotes in the DB features of the RPD
    4) We updated the bash_profile file to point the ODBCINI variable to the path where the OBIEE odbc.ini file is present.
    Export ODBCINI=/u001_OAS/Oracle/Middleware/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIApplication/coreapplication/setup/odbc.ini
    The error in nqsserver.log file says “[nQSError: 16001] ODBC error state: IM002 code: 0 message: [DataDirect][ODBC lib] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.”

    Hi,
    Make sure SQL Configuration Manager make sure the TCP/IP enabled. please try below method
    Method 1
    Re Create a new ODBC & Oracle Bi Server DSN Configuration test it and use it in the connection pools.
    define your ODBC data source in your server where the BI Server is installed. Check your DB connections in your physical layer and make they are defined on your BI Server as well.
    Method 2:
    try using the complete TNS in below format in the datasource name section:
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST =DB IP)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL) ) and provide the credentials.
    Method 3:
    To use the OCI call interface you need to have oracle client DB to be installed so that you can establish a connection using that DB credentials and connect to the remote dB and then import the tables.....this is the rule of thumb.
    hope helps you.
    Thanks

  • Load SQL Server data with OWB 11.2

    Hi,
    We are using OWB 11.2 on Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-2.
    We want to load data from multiple SQL Server tables in our DWH on Oracle 11.2 with OWB 11.2
    We want to load aprox. 100 million records a day.
    I've read some articles about this and the advise was to dump the data from SQL Server to files and load the files with OWB.
    We've tried to make a connection to SQL Server with OWB, this only works partially.
    In the OWB client I can import the database objects and sample the data from the SQL Server tables (all done on MS Windows client).
    From the server I am not able to run a very basic mapping which has a SQL Server source table and a Oracle target table without any difficult transformations.
    Is there another method/best practice to get the data over?
    I've read something about a database link from Oracle to SQL Server, but I don't know the details.
    Is there a tool that runs under Linux that can export data from SQL Server to a text file?
    Regards,
    Emile

    Hi Emile,
    regading extracting data from MSSQL with OWB on Unix platform (using Generic Connectivity):
    Re: SQLServer access from AIX Warehouse builder
    Re: OWB on Solaris Connectivity with SQL SERVER on Windows
    We want to load aprox. 100 million records a day.
    I've read some articles about this and the advise was to dump the data from SQL Server to files and load the files with OWB.100 million records per day is not a problem for daily extracting from MSSQL Server if you have 1-2 hour.
    In my opinion dumping to text file is a bad practice and is unnecessary if customer don't have special requirements (for example for security reason).
    SQL Server source table and a Oracle target table without any difficult transformationsIn my opninion the best way process data from MSSQL is to extract data to staging area (schema) on Oracle DB with mappings as simple as possible (ONLY filters, without any join), and most of data processing prefom in Staging area or during moving from staging to DWH.
    Also look at OWB user guide (how to use Generic Connectivity in OWB)
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/owb.112/e10582/loading_ms_data.htm#i1064950
