Connect to an Oracle database by using oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver: error

Hi,
I'm trying to connect to an Oracle database so we can retrieve notes of tables, views and packages.
By using the API of Data Modeler (transformation script) we want to add these notes to corresponding objects in Data Modeler.
I'm starting with this:
importPackage(java.lang);
importPackage(java.awt);
importPackage(java.sql);
java.lang.Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver");
An error occurs when I run this code:
It has to be a Java thing...
Anyone a suggestion?

Problem solved! One of my colleagues referred to this post: Import user defined properties from Oracle Designer
More in detail: it's about this couple of lines:
// Copy the ojdbc6.jar file to ..\datamodeler-home\jlib directory
// Add this line to datamodeler.conf
//      AddJavaLibFile  ../../jlib/ojdbc6.jar
I changed my datamodeler.conf file, restarted DM and now there's no longer an error when I am trying to use the Oracle JDBC drive.

    Hi,
    I use Oracle.connect(getClass(),"connect.properties") before all of my #sql statements. If there are a bunch of methods with #sql statements, I use the connection method. I think this is my problem and Id like some feedback from other people.
    1) Should i be using an Oracle.connect statement before every #sql?
    2) If so, does it create new connections all the time or does it just know there is a current connection so it doesnt keep adding new connections?
    3) Is there a way to get one connection and then test to see if there is a connection so that i dont keep getting new connections?
    4) Do I have to close the connections? I tried Oracle.close(); but got some wierd errors. I read somewhere that If autocommit is true, you dont have to close jdbc connections.
    Thanks for your time and I appreciate any feedback that anyone has to offer.

    1) Should i be using an Oracle.connect statement before every #sql?No, you don't have to call this each time, just call this once to intialize your DefaultContext and from then on, whenever
    #sql is used, it would fetch the connection from the DefaultContext.
    2) If so, does it create new connections all the time or does it just know there is a current connection so it doesnt keep adding new connections?No, it doesn't create connections each time.
    3) Is there a way to get one connection and then test to see if there is a connection so that i dont keep getting new connections?There would be only one connection
    4) Do I have to close the connections? I tried Oracle.close(); but got some wierd errors. I read somewhere that If autocommit is true, you dont have to close jdbc connections.The connection has to be closed explicitly using Oracle.close();

  • Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Client 9i together

    Hi, I've been lost some nights in this problem, in my job I will need migrate my Oracle Database 10g for a new computer, on the other hand, there is a software in this computer wrote in Visual Basic and this running only Oracle 9i Client.
    Is it possible configure my new server for run Oracle Database 10g and Oracle 9i Client together?
    Thanks!
    Emerson

    You can certainly use an Oracle 9i client to connect to an Oracle 10g database. Technically, you may have to apply the 9.2.0.4 patchset to the Oracle client to be completely supported, but that may not be strictly necessary.
    You can also have both a 10g database and a 9i client installed on the same machine in different Oracle Homes. You may have some issues on Windows, however, if you are using software that is not multi-home compliant (i.e. the Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle) or if you call Oracle command-line utilities (exp, imp, etc) without explicitly setting the PATH first.

  • How can we clone the Oracle database in new Oracle Home

    Hi,
    I would like to clone oracle database into new oracle home. How can we set it using OEM.
    I am using 10g grid control. Target db is on solaris
    Thanks
    Naveen

    after logging into target database, under maintenance tab, data movement header; ther is "clone database" option. When you click on it; you'll see :
    Clone Database uses RMAN to duplicate a database from:
    -- An open database in ARCHIVELOG mode, or
    -- An open database in NOARCHIVELOG mode (restart required), or
    -- A saved working directory from previous cloning
    Clone Database performs the following operations:
    -- Backup each database file and store it in a working directory
    -- Transfer each backup file from source to destination host
    -- Restore each backup file to existing destination Oracle Home
    -- Recover the cloned database with saved archived log files
    -- Open the cloned database with resetlogs
    It seems to be for cloning to a different host, but i guess you can chose the same host for source and destination. (I've never used cloning on em by the way :))
    But firstly, you should create a new oracle home, you can simply copy your oracle home with a new name (cp -R /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0 /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.new) or make a new installation.
    I suggest you to do this cloning with CLI. You should take a full backup with RMAN, copy the oracle home, create a new initNEWSID.ora file and nomount the database, restore (or simply copy) controlfiles, restore database (with set newname commands), recover database, open resetlogs.

  • Oracle Database 10g or Oracle 10g Express Edition

    Hi Friends,
    I have worked on Oracle 9i but now I would like to work on Oracle 10g but confuse because there are more option for download.Which one should I go for?
    Oracle Database 10g or Oracle 10g Express Edition ?
    Or Any other option.
    Any Suggestion are welcome.
    KarTiK.

    It all depends on what exactly you are planning to use oracle for. Depending on the version, there may be found or not some features, you can see it this way:
    EE > SE > XE
    EE is a superset of SE and SE is a superset of XE. So you will find several limitation on the XE edition.
    However, even though XE is a very limited version, it cannot be underestimated, it can be used for Spatial Data projects, it works with spatial data locator, and there are several guides that show how to use it with PHP so you can start a web site. WebPLSQL is included with it, so the only limit is your creativity.
    This version can be very useful, and you can make the most of it, you may be interested in reading this article Oracle Database 10g Express Edition: Not Just for Learners
    by Lewis Cunningham.
    The XE edition is free. So you can use it without license fees and is the best suitable tool for learning, it is easy to install and setup. You can have a fully functional XE database out of the box. Once you feel more comfortable with oracle technology you can start thinking about taking the next step to a SE or EE edition.

    Does this mean you are not using the WIndows operating system, or you doi not want to do this 'manually' using some point and click method?
    If this means, "do it automatically for reboots" and you are using the Windows OS, you need to set up a service and set it to automatic at reboot. Or, again in a Windows environment but at commnand line, use "net start {service name}" - as described in the manual.

  • How can I connect to an oracle database remotely using telnet in DIAdem?

    I need to query an oracle database on a remote server and store the result back in DIAdem. Does anyone know how to telnet through diadem and return the result?

    DIAdem provides you with tools to connect to databases using SQL. Specifically, you can use SQL_Connect to open a connection to a database through a DSN (Data Source Name). The DSN has to be configured on the local machine (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools - > Data Sources) and has to point to the remote Database. You can map a network drive in the local machine so you can browse to your remote Database. The DSN will provide the link between DIAdem and the remote Database.
    If your communication has to be throught telnet, then I suggest you try to use an ActiveX control. VBScript doesn't support Telnet natively, but it does support ActiveX controls. You can create one from Visual Basic or try to find a telnet client that has one already.

  • How to connect to Oracle Database table using xquery (using 'ora:view')

    Hi,
    I am new to this forum and JDeveloper, but I am trying to use xquery accessing an Oracle database, but I can't seem to get it working, nor can I find what I am doing wrong.
    The xquery statement I (try to) use is:
    for $x in ora:view("TOU_TEST")
    return $x/txt
    (In which "TOU_TEST" is the table with column 'txt')
    But I get this "Dutch" error message:
    Er moet een JDBC-standaardverbinding beschikbaar zijn voor de functie 'ora:view'.
    (basically giving an error message about the default JDBC connection).
    I've searched a lot (Technet, Google, JDeveloper Help), but can't find out what I am doing wrong.
    Could you tell me what I am doing wrong/ how to solve this?

  • IBM DB2 to Oracle Database Migration Using SQL Developer

    Hi,
    We are doing migration of the whole database from IBM DB2 8.2 which is running in WINDOWS to Oracle 11g Database in LINUX.
    As part of pre-requisites we have installed the Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.1 (4.0.1.14.48) in Linux Server with JDK 1.7. Also Established a connection with Oracle Database.
    Questions:
    1) How can we enable the Third Party Database Connectivity in SQL Developer?
    I have copied the files db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar from the IBM DB2 (Windows) to Oracle (Linux)
    2) Will these JAR files are universal drivers? will these jar files will support in Linux platform?
    3) I got a DB2 full privileged schema name "assistdba", Shall i create a new user with the same name "assistdba" in the Oracle Database & grant DBA Privillege? (This is for Repository Creation)
    4) We have around 35GB of data in DB2, shall i proceed with ONLINE CAPTURE during the migration?
    5) Do you have any approx. estimation of Time to migrate a 35 GB of data?
    6) In-case of any issue during the migration activity, shall i get an support from Oracle Team (We have a Valid Support ID)?
    7) What are all the necessary Test Cases to confirm the status of VALID Migration?
    Request you to share the relevant metalink documents!!!
    Kindly guide me in-order to go-ahead with the successful migration.
    Thanks in Advance!!!

    Hi Klaus,
    Continued with the above posts - Now we are doing another database migration from IBM DB2 to Oracle, which is very less of data (Eg: 20 Tables & 22 Indexes).
    As like previous database migration, we have done the pre-requirement steps.
    DB Using SQL Developer
    Created Migration Repository
    Connected with the created User in SQL Developer
    Captured the Source Database
    Converted Captured Model to Oracle

    As far as I know client software should be lesser or equalThe relationship bet. client and server is even looser than that.
    Use copy and paste to show the actual sqlplus command you use, and the exact response.
    Here's a primer on how a tns connection works. This should help you systematically track down the problem
    =================================
    Assume you have the following in your tnsnames.ora: (client machine)
    larry =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = curley)
      )Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
    $> sqlplus scott/tiger@larrytns will look in your tnsnames.ora for an entry called 'larry'. Next, tns sends a request to (PORT = 1521) on (HOST = myhost) using (PROTOCOL = TCP), asking for a connection to (SERVICE_NAME = curley).
    Where is (HOST = myhost) on the network? When the request gets passed from tns to the next layer in the network stack, the name 'myhost' will get resolved to an IP address, either via a local 'hosts' file, via DNS, or possibly other less used mechanisms. You can also hard-code the ip address (HOST = 123.456.789.101) in the tnsnames.ora.
    Next, the request arrives at port 1521 on myhost. Hopefully, there is a listener on myhost configured to listen on port 1521, and that listener knows about SERVICE_NAME = curley. If so, you'll be connected.
    A couple of important points.
    First, the listener is a server side only process. It's entire purpose in life is the receive requests for connections to databases and set up those connections. Once the connection is established, the listener is out of the picture. It creates the connection. It doesn't sustain the connection. One listener, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.
    Second, the tnsnames.ora file is a client side issue. It's purpose is for address resolution - the tns equivalent of the 'hosts' file further down the network stack. The only reason it exists on a host machine is because that machine can also run client processes.
    What can go wrong?
    First, there may not be an entry for 'larry' in your tnsnames. In that case you get "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" No need to go looking for a problem on the host, with the listener, etc. If you can't place a telephone call because you don't know the number (can't find your telephone directory (tnsnames.ora) or can't find the party you are looking for listed in it (no entry for larry)) you don't look for problems at the telephone switchboard.
    Maybe the entry for larry was found, but myhost couldn't be resolved to an IP address (say there was no entry for myhost in the local hosts file). This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
    Maybe there was an entry for myserver in the local hosts file, but it specified a bad IP address. This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
    Maybe the IP was good, but there is no listener running: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
    Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, but it is listening on a different port. "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
    Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, it is listening on the specified port, but doesn't know about SERVICE_NAME = curley. "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"
