Connect to oracle database through ODBC

BobsNeeding to connect from a windows client does NOT automatically mean you need odbc. It depends on what app you are using.
And please note that ODBC is NOT a substitution for the Oracle client software, it is in addition to it. -
How to connect Oracle database through Microsoft ODBC?
My ODBC Configuration:
DSN name is :db
Username : india
Server :db.world
Now, i am trying to connect with oracle database through SQL*plus or TOAD.
But, it is giving the following error.
ORA-03121: no interface driver connected - function not performed
Database version : 9.2.0.1.0
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP
ODBC Version : 2.575.1117.00
I am trying to connect with the database like this:
Username : india
Password : india
Database : ODBC:db
Can i connect like this otherwise whether i need install any other supporting driver? Now, i am trying to connect with oracle database

But, it is giving the following error.
ORA-03121: no interface driver connected -

I am trying to connect with the database like this:

As already stated, you can not use the DSN in SQL*Plus (nor TOAD, afaik)!
I can reproduce the error message with the following:
C:\>sqlplus a/b@ODBC:c
SQL*Plus: Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production on Mon Aug 4 21:34:58 2008
Copyright (c) 1982, 2007, Oracle. All rights reserved.
ERROR:
ORA-03121: no interface driver connected - function not performedLooking up the message, it says:
Cause: A SQL*Net version 1 prefix was erroneously used in the connect string
Looks like this has nothing to do with your DSN - it is more a matter of not using a proper connection string.
If 'Test Connection' works then you should probably proceed to work with Crystal Reports, using the DSN in question.
However, you should note that the old MS ODBC driver for Oracle was designed for OCI 7 (and for databases 7.x-8.x) and is now considered obsolete by both MS and Oracle.
Deprecated MDAC components and MS KB Article 244661.
Use the Oracle ODBC driver included with a supported Client version instead.
Edit:
Clarifying and adding references.

Not connecting to Oracle Database from Oracle BIEE 10g on Windows 7 machine
Hi friends,
I succesfully installed OBIEE 10g on my Windows 7 (Ultimate) machine using the assistance from one of your threads.
Now I am not able to connect to Oracle 11g database. When I tried to configure through START->Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> DATA SOURCES (ODBC) ---> ....I am seeing Oracle 11g in System DSN but I am unable to see OBIEE driver in system DSN. After setting manually, I am now seeing OBIEE driver in user DSN. So is all other 32 bitapplications like MS Acess, Excel, etc., are all in user dsn.
When I open OBIEE Administration tool, I can only see ONLY Analytics Web and nothing else. How do I connect to Oracle database. Please assist me.
Thanks in advance.
DinHi,
Your window os 32bit or 64bit -- Please conform?
Your Os 64 bit -- http://www.mycabi.net/?p=19 please read this link.
Your windows os 32 bit :

Not able to connect with Oracle server through VBScript without DSN
Hi
I have both Oracle9i and Oracle10g clients installed with local system.
I am able to connect to Oracle Database 11g Enterprise edition server though sqlplus through command prompt and also through AQT without any error.
As the server has lots of database ,whenever I connect to a particular database through sqlplus from command prompt,I connect as below
C:>sqlplus username/password@service_name
and it gets connected without any error.
When I am trying to connect the same database through VB Script,I am getting ORA-12560 TNS:Protocol Adaptor Error.
Below is the connection string I am using:
Database_String = "SERVER=xxxx.vvvn.Com;Driver={Oracle in OraHome92};DATABASE=service_name;user id=userid; password=passowrd"
I have installed a Oracle10g server in my local system and tried to connect the same way and I was successfully ,but its not working when the server is running remotely.
Does it make any difference with the version of driver being used ?Should I need to modify my connection string anyway.
Please help me as to identify the issue.Thank you very much in advance.

How to I convert data from oracle database into excel sheet
how to I convert data from oracle database into excel sheet.
I need to import columns and there datas from oracle database to microsoft excel sheet.
Please let me know the different ways for doing this.
Thanks.asktom.oracle.com has an excellent article on writing a PL/SQL procedure that dumps data to an Excel spreadsheet-- search for 'Excel' and it'll come up.
You can also use your favorite connection protocol (ODBC, OLE DB, etc) to connect from Excel to Oracle and pull the data out that way.

How to connect with Oracle database in JSF ?
Hi ,
am very new to JSF,i want to perform a database connection with an Oracle database through JSf.Is there any special tag as such in struts for DB connectivity in JSF?Can any one help me?No.
A database shouldn't even be reached from inside the view layer. Do it in the controller/business layer, e.g. the backing bean. Read on about JDBC, DAO, DTO. If you're already familiar with that, consider an ORM, like Hibernate. -
ODI topology connection error - oracle database
Hi,
I'm trying to connect to oracle database installed on a remote server through odi client installed on my windows machine. Oracle db is on RHEL 64 bit, I believe. I know the connection details such as hostname, sid etc but i'm not able to establish a connection using the oracle jdbc driver. I can perfectly connect to the db via sqldeveloper using tnsnames and also basic connection which rules out the possibility that i might be giving incorrect SID name in ODI connection since I'm using the same details for both

Connection to oracle database using jdbc
i am using eclipse as editor.
How to connect to the database?
How to create a new table in oracle database through a servlet invoked
program.
My servlet receives input from an html page and then it can either do the above mentioned activities by itself or can invoke any other java class if necessary. This doesn't seem to have anything to do with JavaMail.
You need to post this question to a more appropriate forum. -
Issues when trying to connect to Oracle database
Hi
We have set up a linked server in SQL Server to connect to an Oracle database. We are using SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (64 bit) on Windows Server 2008 and Oracle client 11g 11.02.00.01 connecting to Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production using UTF8.
Most tables are selectable without error, however, we got this error message for some:
Msg 7347, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider 'OraOLEDB.Oracle' for linked server 'OurLinkedServer' returned data that does not match expected data length for column '[OraOLEDB.Oracle].Ourfieldname'. The (maximum) expected data length is 6, while the returned data length is 2.
This error message refers to a column of type char(3)
Will the characterset cause this error (I’ve read that SQL Server doesn’t support UTF8)?
If not, is there some other resolution that anyone can think of?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot!
TomThank You for replying, Justin!
Yes, I can connect successfully to the database through other tools - at the moment I tried SQL*Plus, Net8 Easy Config and Schema Manager.
The Oracle client in the NT machine is 8.0.5.0.0. And unfortunately I do not know anything about the Oracle installation on this machine and at the moment I don't have that person near me too whom to ask also. But I think the installation was ok, because the connection through ODBC was working before the DB upgrade as far as I understood (sorry, again at the moment I don't know what was the previous version of DB. I will ask that information as soon as possible).
The main problem that bothers me at the moment is that I can't install 8.1.* series OraODBC driver with 8.0.5.0.0 Oracle Installer. I managed to install 8.0.6.6.0 version of the driver, but not the newer ones. As far as I've understood I have to upgrade the whole Oracle in the NT machine to upgrade that installer. Am I correct?

# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = Access1
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = off
# Environment variables required for the non-Oracle system
#set <envvar>=<value>
Step 3
Add the following entry to the tnsnames.ora file:
ACCESS1.WORLD =
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=ACCESS1))
(HS=OK)
Step 4
Add the following entry into the listener.ora file:
(SID_DESC=
(SID_NAME=ACCESS1)
(ORACLE_HOME=D:\Oracle)
---Define urs oracle home path in mine case it is at D:\Oracle--
(PROGRAM=hsodbc)
Step 5
Reload the listener from contol panel services yours listener service
Step 6
Create a database link using:
CREATE DATABASE LINK access1.world CONNECT TO "MyUser" IDENTIFIED BY "MyPassword" USING 'ACCESS1.WORLD';
