CONNECT USING ODBC

Hi,
It's possible to connect to database with de driver ODBC?.
I know the adapter JDBC but i don't know if exist an adapter ODBC.

You can use JDBC to Access a ODBC. Search for "JDBC-ODBC bridge" in the google and see this link: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/jdbc/getstart/bridge.doc.html

Remute connection using ODBC

Hi all,
I have problem to connect on my XE database using ODBC-front end msaccess2003.In local network all work fine but when i try to connect via static ip adress using ODBC problem starts.I wont to connect client who use access application, with my database from remote place.Cliant has instoled oracleclientXE, tnsnames is on bin dir, on odbc i put 82.208.201.51/xe for TNS Service Name and it wont work? What is the problem?

1) "It won't work" is not particularly descriptive. Is there an error? If so, what error are you getting? If not, can you describe the behavior you're seeing?
2) Are you sure that nothing is blocking access to port 1521 (or whatever port your listener is running on) from the remote network segment? Most firewalls, for example, would block this port by default.
3) What operating system is your database using? If you are on Windows, by default, connections on port 1521 will be redirected to one of a large range of ports that could be blocked if there is any sort of firewall in place.
4) Can the client ping your IP address?

Crystal connection using ODBC

Yes. Performance depends on the number of rows you fetch from each ODBC connection. If you want to merge a large number of data you may consider building a DWH and load your data in there.
- Can we aggregate or manipulate information in Crystal using ODBC connection?
Yes. Crystal Reports' report engine will allow you to process data. Still if you want to work on a very large ammount of data it is advisablke to review your data model and do as much processing as possible on the data source.

Oracle9i connect sybase use ODBC

i configure a hsodbc to non-oracle(sqlserver7) database, under win2k platform, it works fine. now i configure it under Solaris platform to Sybase, i download a DataDirect ODBC driver for Sybase. when i create a database link in sqlplus, i select some data from sybase, it work error,error message is:

yes, i add the env LD_LIBRARY_PATH in the listener.ora file, but it still work error. the SQLAllocConnect function entry is in the libodbc.so file. generally application using ODBC will call the SQLAllocEnv first, if invokation successful, then invoke the SQLAllocConnect function. i specify HS_FDS_SHAREABLE_NAME = /opt/odbc/lib/libodbc.so in the inithsodbc.ora file, sqlplus should be found SQLAllocConnect.
anyone encounter this situation?

How to use ODBC SQLDriverConnect() without using tnsnames.ora file

I have an ODBC application that connects to an Oracle 10g database. Currently, my SQLDriverConnect() function call uses the following connection string:

ORA-12154: TNS: Could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
I have heard others are able to use sqlplus with no tnsnames.ora file and the do specify the entire (DESCRIPTION=.... string on the sqlplus connection string, but is this possible to do using the ODBC SQLDriverConnect() function? If so, do I need to use a different keyword/value pair other than DBQ=?

How would that work in a load balanced configuration? Take a closer look at the tnsnames.ora example I included in my original post. I have 4 ADDRESS= sections to denote 4 servers that are part of the load balanced environment.
Also, I'm not familiar with that syntax, I need to use the syntax supported by the SQLDriverConnect() API function, which looks like this:
DRIVER={Oracle in OraClient10g_home1}; DBQ=MyDB.world; DBA=W; UID=foo; PWD=bar
I don't know as SQLDriverConnect() would accept an alternative syntax. But the more important issue here is the ability to specify those 4 servers in the load balanced configuration as indicated by that tnsnames.ora entry.

Can't select char type columns using ODBC link to SQL Server 2K

I have set up a db link using hsodbc from 8.1.7 to SQL Server 2000. I can select numeric and date columns from the
SQL Server table with no problem. But any character datatype (nchar or nvchar) column name included in the query
returns an ORA-00904 ("invalid column name"). I know the column names are valid for SQL Server and can access

Note, the query I entered doesn't appear and I never entered the query "select * from bio_assay" - it appears that this is
automatically generated by the hsodbc process and raises other questions (like wouldn't this return a lot of unneeded
data ?). It also appears that the "select * from bio_assay" gets translated somehow into a select statement listing each column - however, non of the columns listed are character type columns like assay_name.
Does this make sense to anyone? Any ideas ? HELP !

Remote view gives the same error. I think the problem has to do with nchar and nvchar fields. It seems that the hsodbc agent issues a "select * from bio_assay" at the beginning of the session (see above trace).

Apparently, the list of fields that is returned from the "select *" does not include any of the nchar or nvchar type columns. After this initial "select *" the oracle server only looks at the initial list of columns and gives an "invalid column" error for any fields that are not in this initial list. So the question is: how do I make the hsodbc agent see the nchar/nvchar type fields and include them in the initial list ? I've tried setting the HS_NLS_LANGUAGE and HS_NLS_NCHAR parameters but these seem to have no effect.
Any clue as to what's going on ?

Executing multiple SQL statements fails using ODBC

Executing multiple SQL statements will fail with error 'ORA-00911 invalid character' when connecting to an Oracle database using ODBC driver version 8.01.07.00.
When I use either my application or the Oracle ODBC Test client utility connecting using ODBC driver version 8.01.07.00 I can only get a single CALL statement (as shown below) to execute:

I've tried adding a line feed in addition to the space at the end of each call but that doesn't seem to help. Also have tried unsuccessfully to change the seperator used between each call using various valid continuation characters.
Executing multiple CALL statements from within Oracle's SQL Worksheet connecting as the same user and password, as my application executes successfully. However when I try this from within the Oracle ODBC test client, it fails with the same ORA-00911 error that I'm seeing in my application.
I'm currently trying the more recent ODBC drivers, however any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I can't think of any documentation that would specifically answer this question. I'm sure if you read & absorbed the ODBC Programmers Reference (2000+ pages) you'd be able to find out, but I don't know of a quick way to find out.
You can enable SQL*Net tracing. There are a fair number of options for enabling this tracing-- http://tahiti.oracle.com has all the Oracle manuals online, which should give you enough info to configure exactly what you want.
I would suggest, however, that you look into more performant/ scalable alternatives rather than going too far down this path. A block with lots of SQL statements with literals isn't going to make your database happy even if you get it to work.

Unix: SQL Server Connection with ODBC (CRsqls24.so)

I almost find no information how to set up a SQL Server connection using ODBC on a unix platform.
This is what I get when I try to refresh my crystal report on my BO Server (4.1):

First off, let me say that in the past (pre v9) when I've tried to use Windows logins with datasources, it never worked. But that doesn't mean that they finally got it working, just that I stopped trying.
What I was referring to in my post is that once you have CF installed, you need to go to the Windows Services screen, open each of the CF processes, click on the LOGIN tab, and change it from the default services login to be whatever WIndows login you have setup in Active Directory. Then restart CF so that it's process is now running under that login with its credentials. Then go to SQL Admin and setup that same login and give it access to the database you want to access. Then go to CF Datasource menu and setup the datasource as you did previously. If CF's support of Windows authentication for datasources does in fact now work, you should be in business.
If it doesn't work, then you'll need to do as I said earlier, and setup SQL logins for the CF servers to use, and then in the CF Datasource setup screens you would specify that login info in the same way that you would have given it the "sa" login info.

Unable to stablish connection using JDBC

I can not stablish a connection using JDBC.
Oracle Server (8.1.7) SuSE Linux 7.1 kernel 2.4 AMD 650 with 750MB of memory.
Client: Win2000 (JDBC driver thin (The last one that you can download from OTN)
I can connect using ODBC or the JDBC-ODBC bridge without any problem, but when I try to connect using JDBC I got an exception:
java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection. If I restart the listener then the connection can be stablished, after the connection is closed, and before any other connection can be made the listener must be stoped and restarted.
any suggestions :)

- Exact version of Crystal Reports Designer. (For this information open Crystal Reports. Go to Help > About Crystal Reports).
- Exact version of the Business Objects Enterprise.
- Exact version of the Database.
- Type and the version of the driver used to connect.
- Are you able to view all the columns when you create Crystal Report directly using ODBC connection?
- What happens if you create the Data Connection using OLEDB or Native connection?

Help, Cannot connect to ODBC database using SQL Toolkit!

Hello All,
I am toying around with the SQL Toolkit evaluation (2.2 + the patch) and I am having difficulty.
I ran the example program "connect" and it seems to work fine.
However, I try to write my own program and I keep getting the same message:
"Function DBConnect: (return value == -10 [0xFFFFFFF6]).
Native error code - 2147467259 0x80004005
The message differs from time to time, but the return value is constant.
I am using both Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and MySQL.
For MySQL I have installed the latest ODBC connector, 5.3.4. Inside the Control Panel/Data Sources(ODBC), I have a DSN named test_mysql in both User DSN and System DSN.
I ran a test on the connection and the test passes. I am not sure if I should use the ansi or unicode driver, I have tried both with the same success.
I am not sure I had configured the SQL Server connection properly, and will attempt that again.
My CVI Code is simple enough:
hdbc = DBConnect ("DSN=test_mysql");
Every time I get a -10 from DBConnect. Either I have something configured wrong or I am missing something.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Update 2:
After getting off the phone with Tech Support the problem has been identified!
LabWindows SQL toolkit requires 32 bit DNS. My PC is a 64 bit, so my DNS manager defaulted to 64 bit.
I needed to use the 32 bit DNS manager when working with the toolkit.
Once I created my DNS connections using the 32-bit version of the ODBC Datga Source manager, everything worked fine.

Connect to SQL Server by using ODBC

We use ODBC to connect to a Microsoft SQL Server database. We are able to describe and select in Oracle for those tables (in MS SQL) granted to us. However, we cannot select on the views created in MS SQL. Do we miss something? Here is the SQL statement in MS SQL:
