There is a post HOME HUB 2.0, USB HDD, dated 28-10-2010. Use the search function (or use Google, which I did).
It's a long time ago, but it may give you some help. If you succeed in getting it to work, you may find it slow, as the Home Hub processor is slow and USB2 transfer speeds are slow.
Might be better to connect the drive to another computer in the network, and use USB3, if you have it.
I haven't networked my Windows 7 computers as I have been told that it's troublesome setting it up.
It worked well with Vista in 2010, but I had a large electric bill as I seem to remember that you have to disable the hibernate and sleep functions on the computer connected to the drive.
Would be interested to know if you have success.

Attaching a USB drive to the Home Hub 3 = slower t...
I have a 1TB external drive I thought I'd try to network up by attaching it to the USB port of the Home Hub. Unfortunately the transfer speed is so slow I could have written the files myself in pen before it finished (well bit of an exaggeration).
Is there any way to speed this up because as it stands its pointless - you may as well put something more useful in that spot like another ethernet port or something.
I tried to transfer a 200mb file and it took over 6 minutes. That is laughable performance.rapouc wrote:

I am trying to connect my JVC Hard Disk Drive Camcorder to my IPAD 2 via the Apple camera kit. I am able to download photos, but video files not showing. Camera shows Mass Stoarge. How can I download videos please?
The file name only has 6 characters and I'm not sure what the .mod format is. So that's why they are not seen by the iPad.
Another way to transfer. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

New Hard Disc Drive for HP Pavilion dv6 because of 303 and 305 error messages
Hello
My laptop was getting slower and slower so I did a default restore via the recovery partition and when it rebooted to start the reformat and reinstall to factory condition I got a message on the screen telling me to run the hard disc drive test. Did this and got the 303 and 305 error messages. The restore to default setting worked however after doing research in the error codes I realise I'm up for a new hard disc drive.
My laptop is a HP Pavilion dvd6-3203TU with WIndows 7 Home Premium installed. It currently has a 320GB TOSHIBA MK3265GSXX hard disc drive in it.
After reading through the forums I'm happy to find that my Recovery Discs will reinstall everything to a new hard drive and partition it into a C: drive and also the recovery partition. The main question I have is does my new hard drive have to be 320GB in size like the original or can I buy something like a 500GB+ drive for the laptop. If I have to replace the hard drive I may as will increase the size while at it, if possible that is.
Also does it have to be a Toshiba or can I buy a different brand?
Looking forward to some help in regards to this so thank you in advance also
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi,
Your notebook is listed as coming with a 320Gb Hard Drive, but you can just as easily install a 500Gb or 750Gb HDD if you want more space - the drives on the following links are examples that would be fine for your notebook - you're in no way restricted to a particular manufacturer.
500Gb Hard Drive
750Gb Hard Drive.
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 65 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

Using old imac hard disc drive as external drive
Can an old imac hard disc drive be installed into an external hard disc case and be connected via USB to a new imac computer.
The hard drive is from a 2nd generation G5 imac that the logic board has died.Yes, it certainly can, but you realize that you can't boot a PPC iMac from a USB drive, only a firewire one. If your new computer is an intel, it will boot without a problem.

Hard disc drive capacity display
How do I contact Apple software technicians to inform them of a bug/defect in their Yosemite software? When I attempt to find
out how much of my hard disc drive has been used, that is the capacity state - then I receive an incorrect graphic display. I only have used a small amount of the capacity and I certainly do not have that much in the way of programs. The graphic
display does not match the text. The test is correct. I certainly do not have 369 GB in programs!Re-index Macintosh HD.
Do this twice. This will take a while. wait until it is finished.

Satellite A665 hard disc drive failure
My first A665-S6095 had a hard disc drive failure after about 2 months of use. First signs of failure were lockup and sometimes it would fail to system boot. I had to do several hard boots with on/off button to get Windows to start. Eventually Windows recognized HDD failure by SMART and displayed a warning message window at startup.
"SMART Failure predicted on Hard Disk".
Only fix is to replace the hard drive. Fortunately I purchased an extended warranty at Office Depot.Me too....... less than 2 months though, more like 45 days......
.... but I didn't spring for the warranty from CompUSA so now my laptop sits in Toshiba Depot Hell.
I'm giving them till the end of the week then telling them to ship it back broken and I'll eat the cost of a new hard drive.
The techie rolled his eyes when I told him it was a brand new Toshiba saying that he's seen more than a few. I'm as equally upset with Toshiba's support and service as I am with CompUSA for selling these laptops with "known" issues. -
Can I connect a 4 TB USB drive to the airport extreme and use it as a network drive for Time Machine
Can I connect a 4 TB USB drive to the airport extreme and use it as a network drive for Time Machine
Yes, if the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
The USB port on the Time Capsule is under powered, so you may need use a powered USB hub with the 4 TB drive...even if it has its own power supply. -
Is it possible to upgrade the internal Hard disk drive on the iMac
Is it possible to upgrade the internal Hard disk drive on the iMac?
Yes but it's definitely not advised. If you have a machine newer than 2009 Apple uses drives that have integrated heat sensors. This makes upgrading much more difficult but not impossible. If you have a machine still under warranty then definitely DO NOT do this yourself as you may void the warranty not to mention it isn't for the faint of heart. Take the machine to an AASP to have the work done, you will need to find one in your area willing to do so.
If you are considering a new machine then simply buy the configuation you need. -

Since upgrading to ios6, all the family's apple devices (new ipad, 2 iphone4 & itouch) are having difficulty reconnecting to the home hub wifi network. I.e, every time the lock screen comes on, the wifi connection is lost when you reopen the device and we have to reconnect through settings. This appears to be an ios6 software issue.
Is there a solution to this wifi connection issue or do we wait for a software fix?
I'd hate to think Apple is going down the Microsoft path, of passing untested software onto the user. What ever happened to Regression Testing, to ensure the existing functionality remains intact?
I bought into the Apple dream, because it was intuitive, reliable & enjoyable to use, all the things that Microsoft windows isn't.
Other issues we are experiencing are, Games are stuttering and the kids really miss the old YouTube app.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

YouTube is not now part of iOS 6.
However, you can go to the App Store and do a search using YouTube. You can download several YouTube apps: YouTube (for the iPhone, a IPad app is in work), several users like Jasmine and YouPlayer.

Poor service and the saga of the Home Hub 2.0
Since upgrading to Total broadband 3 earlier this year, I've had problems with the Home Hub 2.0 (type a). It keeps locking up/crashing. Its the home hub rather than the broadband connection, which when used with a Linksys modem router works fine.
I've run through usual fault finding and rectification - hard reset, plugging into test socket, countless line tests. of course trying to get BT call centre staff to understand its the home hub thats playing up/at fault, not the connection, is like banging ones head against a very hard wall. For a piece of equipment less than a year old it should work without problem. And I was tempted to go to PC world and buy a replacement modem, but decided to preserve with BT's 'help' desk.
Over the past 3 or 4 months I've probably made one help desk call about the same issue each month. Have to repeat myself time and time again and get fobbed off with another excuse, or promise of call back.
Eventually got through to a supervisor - after insisting when a call log was closed and marked 'resolved' when we were still having the problems and hadn't had a call back. Repeated my issues for the 4th or so time, went through what I had done to date (restore to factory settings, checking its logs, etc etc) he finally consented to send a replacement home hub.
I get an email telling me it would be delivered on the 6th before 6pm. But of course it wasn't. And I did as the email said, and tried to phone the number to say it hadn't arrived only to get an answer phone message saying the help desk was shut.
So wasted my lunch break today on the phone to BT trying to find out where it was, only to learn that BT had posted it to a previous address which I haven't lived at for 4 years. Well done BT, it takes real skill to be that rubbish.
Fingers crossed another new one is on its way to the right address.
I have however a couple of questions, which as I can't face phoning the call centre again I thought I'd post on here:
1) How on earth did BT manage to send the replacement home hub it to the wrong address? Especially since the original one was sent to the correct address & my delivery address is set correctly on the web portal and the agent handling the call confirmed the address? - and what are you going to do to ensure it doesn't happen again (dare I mention data protection - as the home hub pack presumably has some personal details on it..)
2) In the final call today I was asked for my date of birth and mothers maiden name so they could add it to the account - afterwards having not been asked by BT for this before on countless calls I wondered is this standard practice - or should I now be worried?
3) How do you have a sensible discussion with someone - preferably in the UK - about the customer experience? As mine as has been rubbish (you might be able to tell from the tone of this post), and I'm regretting ever having upgraded and wishing I had instead gone to another broadband provider.
4) Given that issues with certain models of home hubs seem to be known issues (at least to google) why do the call centre agents always focus on the broadband connection -(typical conversation with an Agent "..so your connection keeps dropping", Me: "No the connection is fine. The home hub has crashed again". Agent "So your connection has dropped"? and on and on) rather than actually listening to the customer. (Can you reset it - yes already have, several times and so on)
Any answers from a moderator would be welcome.
I am actually happy with BT's broadband product, and don't want to have to go through the hassle of changing provider, I'm just disgruntled at how bad the home hub has been, and how poor the customer service has been.
Thanks.Hi EKandrew,
To be honest I have not heard of the hub locking up before. The questions you have been asked by our helpdesk are aimed specifically at your connection as most problems tend to occur here, either with slow speed or hub drops etc.
Could you be more specific in how the hub locks/crashes? What do you notice when this happens? What way do you have your connection set up?
As much info as possible would help
In answer to your questions:
1/ Sometimes we have an old address still on your account and this has not been updated for packages/correspondance.
2/ Nothing to worry about, we ask these questions for additional security. If you have quoted your account number previously this is normally enough for most things however the advisor probably just noticed we didnt have this info on file.
4/ As above, this is not a common problem and most issues that come to us are to do with your connection.
Thx
Craig

The Home Hub PS3 Remote Play Issue
The problem:
If you set your PS3 to allow remote start via the internet (a better and more 'greener' option than leaving it on all day) and power it down, the PS3 will turn on again only after a few seconds without you connecting via remote play, after nothing connects to the PS3 after 2-3 minutes, the PS3 removes the option to allow remote start via the internet to save the PS3 powering up and down all day, thus rendering the remote play feature useless unless your in the same house which is somewhat pointless.
Now..The PS3 doesn't start by itself from outside influence, it starts from a broadcast from the router itself. You can test this easily by turning your PS3 off with Internet Remote Start enabled, and immediately thereafter yanking the internet connection from your router. The PS3 will still start by itself, even with no internet connection.
The culprit is the ARP table of the router, which is what links the MAC address to the IP address. On most routers, this is a dynamic table which updates by itself every now and then, by sending a broadcast (signal to all machines on a network) asking for a reply from a specific IP address. It goes like this:
BT HOME HUB: Hello, I have an IP address 192.168.0.144 in my system here that reported it had a MAC address of 01:44:23:F4:E5:23. Could the owner of IP address 192.168.0.144 please report the MAC address so I can confirm and update?
PS3: Wohoo, I have 192.168.0.144. My MAC address is 01:44:23:F4:E5:23. Please update your records.
(30 seconds go by)...
BT HOME HUB: Hello, I have an IP address of 192......... and on it goes. My router checks every 30 seconds, some check every minute, others every hour, 6 hours, etc etc. The problem here is though, that the ARP table update request will turn on the PS3. So mine gets a wakeup-call every 30 seconds.
This is called an ARP broadcast, it is sent from the router (and other machines on the network) to the IP 255.255.255.255, which is received by all devices on the network. The PS3 will only respond to ARP broadcasts from its Default Gateway, meaning only the router can wake it by ARP broadcast, the other machines on the network cannot.
The Solution:
Allow users to telnet their own home hub or create a firmware update fix.
We've been looking into getting the new BT Infinity, can anyone confirm if the Infinity hub is the same as the HHv2 with all its problems?Very happy this morning, after over a year of waiting for the remote play feature to work with the home hub and PS3..it looks like BT have added a fix into the Home Hub v2 FIBRE. last night i thought i might as well give the remote play a go as there might be a slim chance of it working AND IT DID! i set the PS3 to remotely start via the internet, powered down and it stayed in standby mode!!
unfortunately this doesn't mean the old hubs work though (although i cannot test this) so ill still be bumping this until there's an official response. Can anyone confirm that the old hubs still don't work for me? we got rid of the old hub when we upgraded.
