Connecting a 3G ipod to a windows machine
h i have a 3G ipod and was wondering if i wanted to connect to a windows machine and wanted it to charge at the same time could i use the USB cable or do i have to get the cable that is split into USB and firewire. thanks for all the help
Just plug, unplug, and go. The iPod Dock makes charging and syncing easier than ever. A convenient and elegant home base for iPod on a desk or connected to a home stereo system, the dock provides charging and syncing via FireWire or USB 2.0*, and a stereo line out for simple connection to power speakers or a stereo system.
Compatible with iPod with Click Wheel (20/40GB).
*Note: USB 2.0 requires Mac v10.3.4 or later.

Is it better to connect iPod to a windows machine at the very first time?
I've a Macbook and a Desktop PC. I just bought an iPod few days ago and expecting to recieve it pretty soon. Because I heard that a Mac formated iPod would not work on windows' machines, but otherwise works. So should I conncet my new iPod to the PC first??? if I want to use it on both systems later.
ThanksYour information is correct, an iPod formatted for Mac won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. If you want to use it on both platforms then connect it to your PC first so that it gets Windows formatted. Just remember though that you'll need to do any software updates or restores on the PC as well to maintain the formatting. Updating or restoring on the Mac will change it. Just a bit of additional information, there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows. This is one for instance will let you connect you Mac iPod to a PC and also copy non iTMS songs from the iPod to the PC: XPlay 2

The great switch - new G4 powerbook, old ipod from a windows machine
Hi,
So I'm finally making the switch (oh happy day!), and so far everything's been going pretty smoothly. Using my external hard drive from the old windows machine I've already moved all my data onto my new laptop, including all 16 GB of my music.
But I've hit one snag, my Ipod was set up to run off of my windows machine, and now the new powerbook won't even detect it. I've connected it via both firewire and USB and the ipod simply doesn't show up.
Can anyone suggest what I can do, besides just buy a new ipod? Can I wipe the Ipod clean and reinstall the mac operating system from my old windows machine?
Thanks,
Chris

IPhone and IPod on one windows machine
I have the IPhone and now my son has an older IPod. So my question is, can I run both under one ITunes account, he is 9 and I really dont want to have to give him an account.
Yes you can, iTunes will recognise each iPhone or iPod that you connect as a unique device and they will have each their own individual settings. You can add content to both of them from the same library.

Connection between 2 ipod shuttles and Windows
How can I connect two shuttles to one PC using two separate music libraries?

I am facing issues with my music on my iOS device. I have five devices connected to my apple id. And out of which a Windows Machine and iPhone is not able to sync the purchased songs on the the Windows machine and the iPhone. The iPhone4 shows the songs are not supported and on the Windows Machine the songs do not play completely. Can anyone advice what could have gone wrong ? Because rest of the devices are synced to MacBook and they are able to sync the content normally. I have even subscribed to iTunes Match but the problem is still not fixed.
Firstly... a little Clarity...
Devices refer to iDevices... iPod... iPhone... iPad. .. Not Computers.
Authoriation applies ONLY to Computers... of which there is a Limit of 5 per Apple ID.
If the issue is with iTunes on your Windows Computer... Perhaps you need to Re-install iTunes...

IPod formatted for windows, connected to mac accidentally
I have an iPod video, 30GB. I formatted it for use with my windows laptop.
Then, my mother hooked it up to her macbook pro. No syncing took place and it didn't show up in iTunes. However, now neither machine will show the iPod in iTunes. The windows machine, on connection to the iPod, brings up an error message saying the iPod is corrupted. When connected to the Mac, the iPod spontaneously crashes iTunes even before it opens.
Through a series of unfortunate events, much of my music is not on hard drives aside from my iPod, so any help resolving this issue without restoring the iPod would be greatly appreciated.Mac Os X will read Fat 16, Fat32(the windows default for iPod) .
I believe it will read, but not write to NTFS.
Windows can not read or write to HFS(Mac OS X format and iPod for Macs) drives. -
I no longer have any disks for my airport extreme (its pre-time capsule)... how can I connect my windows machine to it in order to get to the internet?
You can directly download the AirPort Utility for Windows from Apple Support here.
Once the AirPort Extreme is properly configured for Internet access you can connect your PC to the Extreme either by a wired or wireless connection. -
How do I connect to Time Capsule from a Windows 8.1 machine which is on a Windows domain. I have been able to connect from a Windows 7 machine on a Windows domain to a Time Capsule. Airport utility is not displaying the Time Capsule Win8.1 machine.
I have checked that the firmware has been updated to 7.6.4 . Similalrly the Win8.1 machine has been loaded with the update specified in another discussion.Firstly how are you connecting to the TC.. wireless or ethernet?
Please open a command window and ping it.. ping by name and by IP address.
If ping succeeds at least by IP it should work.
In windows explorer type
\\10.0.1.1 (or whatever the TC ip is.. that is the default).
Having the airport utility for windows loaded can help the process. As it loads bonjour for windows.
7.6.4 firmware on the TC is useless. It works better on 7.6.1
If the ping does not succeed by either name or IP address yet you have internet through the TC, then your network is setup wrongly. You are have firewalls blocking local IP. Take down all the firewalls. -
Firefox no longer connects to internet on my mac, and windows machines, after v18. I've tried several solutions from Mozilla support and nothing works. Firefox can't even connect to Mozilla for updates. Firefox just sits on the default search page and attempts to connect to websites by typing URLs, or by clicking on the links on the default search page don't work.
You could try the following:
* Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version)
* Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs, then add it back. For detailed instructions, see Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.

I have a Lexmark Prevail Pro 705. Latest (as of july 30, 2012) firmware. Mac driver v 11.0
I can no longer communicate wirelessly with the scan feature of the printer. I can print no problem using a wireless connection. Using a window's machine I can scan wirelessly from the printer. It seems that my iMac (OSX 10.8, 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 24inch early 2009) is not connecting to it. I can put a USB cord into the computer and scan.
Any ideas? This came up starting 2 weeks ago. I had hoped the operating system upgrade would solve it. It has not. I see nothing on the Lexmark boards about this. Since the printer works fine in both print an scan mode using a windows machine and can print fine from a Mac but not scan I don't have any ideas but I suspect it is the Mac.Repair your disk permission: http://bit.ly/OeD7U3.

Are you using DHCP to allocate IP addresses via your router or Static IP allocation?
You may have an IP conflict in your network.
Check on your various network configuration parameters in your iPad, PC and WiFi router. -

Windows Machines No Longer connecting to Shares
Has anyone experienced issues with their Windows machines no longer connecting to Shares on the server. I have a Windows 7 machine and a Windows XP machine that were connecting to the Shares without any issue. Then this morning they just stopped connecting. I can ping the server both through its name and through its IP address from those computers but when trying to map a network drive all I am told they cannot find the server to connect. I have set all the appropriate security settings on both machines as suggested in numerous articles. SMB is turned on for the server.
I have made no changes to the server in the last 24 hours other than to turn off file-sharing and turn it back on to address an issue with Time Machine backups not occuring due to image being locked in use.i have a vaguely similar issue, where my server is a member of the domain(workgroup on mac) - suddenly no users from the domain show in users panel,
and connections are not accepted... 10.8.3/server 2.2.1
