Connecting Oracle(64bit) to SQL Server(32bit) with heterogeneous serv ODBC

Hi,
We are planing the migration of 32bit Oracle 9.2.0.8 (MS Windows Server 2003 EE SP1) to 64 bit Oracle 10.2.0.4 (MS Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition SP2).
We have tested the migration using export/import procedure, and everything passed ok.
The problem is because the database we are planning to migrate (32bit) using Oracles heterogeneous Services ODBC agent in connection to 32 bit SQL Server 2000. When we have tried to implement that on 64bit 10.2.0.4 oracle we always get the message:
ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 65535
Then we looked up the metalink and find the document: Is Generic Connectivity Available On Linux Or Windows 64-bit Platforms ? [*ID 361676.1*]
Is there any way to make the connection between 64bit Oracle 10.2.0.4 and 32bit SQL Server using system DSN within the Windows ODBC Data Sources with choosing the SQL Server driver?
The option with Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) isn't free.
Thanks

Hi everyone
As far as I am aware, you need to install the Discoverer EUL into an Oracle database and then use an ODBC connection to SQL Server. This is because Discoverer has hooks into the Oracle database and is looking for features that only exist in an Oracle database. If you are using an Infrastructure, which is mandatory when using 4i, you can use that database to store your EUL using an ODBC connection over to SQL Server.
I hope this helps
Best wishes

  • How to enable high availability on SQL Server 2005 with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2

    Dear Folks,
I would like to ask you about this thing. I'm working for IT department for bank in Myanmar. Our bank have up to 96 branches across all of Myanmar including H.O. We are using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 with Windows Server 2008 for our banking
information system. My main problem is having to backup and restore the database backup files every time the servers in branches goes down for whatever reasons. I want to deploy this feature of high availability and failover cluster using Windows Server 2008
and SQL Server 2005. Our branches have 2 Servers. One is for Primary and other is for Backup. What I want to do is that, I want to change Backup Server to Primary Server whenever the Primary Server goes down for whatever reasons. All the working data and databases
from Primary will immediately replicated into Backup Server along with all the IP information of Primary Server. Please give me step by step guide for this process.

    Try below
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/cindygross/archive/2009/10/23/checklist-for-installing-sql-server-2005-as-a-clustered-instance.aspx
I will recommend you to upgrade SQL server to newer version for support as well as flexibility.

  • Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-v and System Center Expiration

Prometric says: STATUS: Passed, EXPIRATION: 22-03-2015.
Does this means that I have to take the exam again before 22-03-2015?

    Hi, Daniel.
    Let me understand this exactly.
You log into http://register.prometric.com/ and then on the left side, you click
Candidate History to see your list of exam attempts.
Under the Status Expiration column, all the way to the right, it should read
Passed and the date/time you passed it. Are you sure it reads
    2015 and not
    2014? Is there also
another date on that same row/column for this exam's expiration below the date you passed it?
On the Prometric site, this column is supposed to display the date you passed it and optionally the date it expires for many non-Microsoft exams.
Typically for Microsoft exams, this final column will state the day you passed the exam and
    not an expiration date.
As well, by passing this exam, I know that you also earned a Specialist: Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center certification title. This certification does
    not expire.
    Exam 74-409:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/exam.aspx?ID=74-409
Have you looked at your MCP transcript to see if a expiration date is mentioned there? No matter what it states on the Prometric site, your transcript will describe any exam/certification expiration dates much
    more accurately.
Also, I understand that the 74-nnn series exams are Microsoft partner exams. Perhaps they
do require recertification to keep up to date with the latest certifications.
If your transcript does really contain an expiration, you can contact Prometric about this and see if they can help you understand it. Here is the Prometric contact information for Microsoft exams:
    https://www.prometric.com/en-us/clients/pages/contact-numbers.aspx?client=microsoft
As well, if they can't help you, you can call/email Microsoft Learning Support with information found here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/help.aspx.
Finally, if you want to be sure how this exam works against your employer's Microsoft partnership, you can log in and view the Partner support page here:
    https://partners.microsoft.com/partnerprogram/help/en-us/whgdata/whlstt14.htm#14
I hope someone can help you get this cleared up.
    Good luck!

  • Connect Oracle Reports to SQL server

    Dear All,
I am using SQL Server 2005 and want to connect Oracle Report 6i to SQL Server 2005 without installing Oracle Database. Installing both the databases slows down the machine.

    Hi,
As far as I know this is possible using ODBC and Oracle Open Client Adapter (OCA), but I do not know the details and the howto's.
Probably you'll get a better answer when posting this question at the Reports forum:

  • Not able to connect Oracle DBXE from sql*plus client

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle 10gXE from oracle site. i have updated the tnsnames.ora also
but when i try to connect the db through sql*plus client, i am redirected to .net debugger.
    Pls help me in this,
    Thanks in advance.
    -- Raja

    Hello,
Can you clarify what you are trying to connect from? If it's B1 ( one ) then post to the [B1 forum|http://forums.sdn.sap.com/index.jspa#44].
Otherwise need more info on the product you are using?
Typically the Oracle Path must be in the PATH statement as well it requires the correct platform ( 32 or 64 ) bit client installed.
Most BOE/CR products are 32 bit so you need to install the 32 bit client.

  • Can a server pool with single server be moved to a different manger?

Can an existing server in a pool running on an OVM manager be moved to a different manger. The pool has only one server and is not HA. If you try to register the server on the new manger by creating a new pool it errors that it has been registered with some other pool. Does anyone know the steps to re register a server and pool with a new manger without reinstalling OVS so that the existing guest VM can be imported through resources on the new manager after the pool is added?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.
    Dave

    Greetings,
1- Please power-off and backup your virtual machines.
2- Stop the ovs-agent, remove the local DB and then recreate the local db, i.e..
    # service ovs-agent stop
    # rm -fr /etc/ovs-agent/db
    # service ovs-agent start
    3- Empty the /etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf file on both server, "# /dev/null> /etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf"
4- Create a new server pool with VM Manager and import the guests.
For details about Oracle VM Manager please review http://itnewscast.com/chapter-2-oracle-vm-architectural-review

  • Connect Oracle 9i to SQL Server: platform incompatibility

    Hi,
we want to connect an Oracle 9.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production to a SQL Server.
The Oracle DB is on a HP-UX Itanium 64bits machine.
The SQL Server is on a WIN2000 machine.
Our first choice to get them connected was an ODBC and HS.
However, as far as we know, there is not HS for our platforms combination.
We have also tried to use another Oracle BD in a WIN machine as a middle tier.
Single queries work fine, but advance plsql blocks render in several errors (some due to db version, others to the way the oracle manager works)... so this solution also fails.
We have read about Transparent Gateway. But since it uses HS, we are not sure our platform combination is supported. Moreover, on the whitepaper is said "stored procedures are not supported", which it is a hard backdraw.
    Any suggestion or workaround?
    Thanks in advance!
    Alberto.

You can use TG4MSQL, the Gateway to SQL Server.
The big advantage of the gateways is: they are independant from an Oracle db.
This means, you can run an Oracle DB on machine A, have the gateway installed on machine B and run the foreign database on a 3rd machine!
The TG4MSQL is only available for Windows based 32bit platforms, so in your case you can install the gateway on the SQL Server machine or -if you don't have access to it- on a 3rd machine running MS Windows operating system.

  • Connect oracle forms to sql server 2000

Kindly tell me what kinds of scripts i have to install in SQL Server.

    Hi,
    You have 2 major options:
    1. Use Generic Connectivity with your Oracle 9i database running on Solaris. However it requires a proper ODBC-Driver to be installed on Solaris capable of connecting to Microsoft SQL Server
MetaLink DocID: 245549.1 - How to setup Generic Connectivity - HSODBC - on SUN Solaris
Remark: Oracle 9i has been de-supported, should you run into new bugs they wouldn't be fixed by Oracle
    2. Install and use the Database Gateway for ODBC 11g on the same machine which hosts the SQL Server database. Usage of this gateway is included in the Oracle database license. DG4ODBC also requires an ODBC-Driver but this one is mostly already present.
Another option would be to install the Database Gateway for MS SQL Server (DG4MSQL) 11g on the same machine which hosts the SQL Server database. However this gateway requires an additional license. The big advantage of this gateway over DG4ODBC is that it supports the two phase commit protocol (distributed updates) and calling of SQL Server stored procedures. Also the dataype mapping is better compared to DG4ODBC.
One thing though; in order for you Oracle 9i database to cooperate with one of the 11g gateways a patch for bug 5965763 on top of 9.2.0.8.0 is required. See also MetaLink DocID: 457808.1 for more details.
I hope this get you going.

    Ed

    >> ODBC Driver Manager ... Data source name not found
That appears to be ODBC drivers looking for a DSN (Data Set Name). If it wants a DSN, the DSN has to be specified in the code, and the DSN has to be configured in the windows host ODBC applet. So that is at least two squirrels to get in the right tree before moving forward. A ...host:...[port:]SID|service name are some of the bits needed in a jdbc connect string, and that is in no way related to DSNs. A Whole Different Animal. If it wants a DSN that might be what needs to go in the URL bit.
And ODBC setups can be confusing, especially if an x64 OS is in the mix- if that is the case there are two different ODBC configuration applets, one for x64 the other for x86, and if one gets as far as talking to an actual database it might toss an architecture error. Only way to fix that "problem" is *delete* the ODBC DSN and then run the correct (maybe the x86) ODBC config utility, and set up the DSN. Again.

  • Unable to connect to the 2014 SQL Developer's Edition Report Server

    Hello,
I have been through the wringer trying to gain access to my report service.  I have to admit that I am something of a neophyte with regards to SQL Server but I am pretty good with Windows 7 management in general.  I have just installed
SQL 2014 Developer's Edition under Windows 7 SP1.  I have connected to the database engine server and loaded a couple of databases.  I chose windows authentication and can get into the report configuration manager and the SQL server configuration
manager with no problems.  I have registered the URLs for both the web and report manager.  I can connect to all of the other instances (database engine, analysis services, and integration services).  I have to run with administrator privileges
to connect to the integration services but it does not make any difference when attempting to connect to the reporting service either through report builder 3 or connect through object explorer.  I can find no relevant errors in the RS log even after
enabling logging.  I have been through many of the articles I could find online but nothing seems to resolve the problem.  When connecting it shows Windows Authentication and the correct domain\user.  I also browse to find the service so the
URL should be correct. The error that I am getting is as follows:
"Unable to connect to the server at CALYSTO\ReportService. The specified URL might not be valid or there might be a problem with the report server version or configuration. Specify a different URL, or contact your server administrator to verify that
the report server runs SQL Server 2008 or later. Additionally, if you are trying to connect to a SharePoint-integrated report server, verify that SharePoint is installed on the server and that the report server uses SharePoint integrated mode. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient)"

I have tried fixing the installation with the installation disk, removing the report service instance and reinstalling it, using the administrator account instead of mine (with is of course an administrator).  I'm at a loss right now.  I have spent
about 12 hours trying to track this down and so far nothing has worked.  I'm about ready to reinstall the entire operating system and start all over.  I thought that I would try this venue before going to that extreme.
Any thoughts, questions, or ideas would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

"Unable to connect to the server at CALYSTO\ReportService.
    Hello Tom,
It should be "ReportServer" in the URL, not "ReportService".
In "Reporting Service Configuration Manager" look up the correct URL. Open Internet Explorer with right-mouse click => "Run as Administrator" and open the URL, this should work. Navigate to "Side setting" (on top right side),
go to tab "Security" and add your account with role "System Administrator". Afterwards you should be able to open the URL without running IE as admin.

iam not understanding what is problem
    please somebody help

I would say it's vendor code 17002 (not 170002). And such a message is thrown by SQL Developer , unfortunately very generic for any kind of connection problems.
Start sqlplus and try to connect, very likely you get a better error message.
Recently I had such a connection problem and the reason was - No Listener.
