Connecting Printer to PC and MAC?

Is there a way I can share a non-network printer between my MAC mini and a PC windows VISTA laptop?
I have shared printers in a work situation between two PCs but not sure how the MAC will do the same.
Printer choices are HP Office jet J5780 or Epson Stylus Photo RX595.
OH, yes. I have each of us connected through a cable modem to a router with multiple ethernet ports.

You can plug the printer into your Mac Mini via USB and then turn on printer sharing and connect to the Mini from your laptop.
If that doesn't work for you there is another option which is to get a USB print server...

I have an original iPad 32 why can't I connect on my home wi-fi but can connect anywhere else? No problems at home connect with other iPads and MACs.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • How to use an apple id on an iPad but not have it connect  with my phone and mac

I've recently sold my ipad to my younger sisters who are using my apple id. once they are in wifi they are able to use facetime and imessage but it connects with my email and phone number. They are also able to view my pictures in "my photo stream". Is there a way to let them us my apple id but completely disable the id from imessage, facetime, and making sure my photo stream does not show up?

    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
When you created your iCloud account, the @me.com email address you created also automatically became an AppleID, but you used an exisiting AppleID in the first place to create the iCloud account before deciding on that @me.com address.  So your iCloud account is actually the AppleID you used to initially create the account, not the @me.com address assigned once the iCloud account was active (look in your account settings on your iPhone or iPad and you can see what the iCloud account primary AppleID is).
Unless you specifically started using your new @me.com address for things, it is an unused AppleID, but it is NOT your iCloud account primary ID (that is whatever AppleID you used to create the iCloud account initially).
An AppleID is nothing more than an email address, but it is linked to an AppleID account held with Apple and thus can be used to log in to services including the various Apple stores.

  • Problem setting up shared printer between PC and Mac with 10.6

I am trying to setup a shared printer between my Mac and PC. I have a HP K80 attached to my PC (which has Vista Home Premium). I have a Macbook pro with 10.6. I have shared the printer on the PC side. From the Mac I have added the printer via Windows Printer sharing, but for some reason I cannot print to the printer. Everytime I try to print, the job just pauses. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Thanks I installed the gutenprint drivers and tried this, and now all working:
    http://guides.macrumors.com/Printingto_a_Shared_PCPrinter
Printing to a Shared PC Printer
This article describes how to print from Mac OS X to a shared printer connected to a Windows XP machine. It assumes the computers are already networked and that you can access the PC's files. These instructions are relevant for Mac OS X 10.2 upwards. The instructions may work with Vista. I don't have the means to try it.
    1. Find the IP address of your PC - go on Start > Run. Type in cmd and click run. Now type in ipconfig /all and hit enter. This should give you the machine's IP address.
    2. Share the printer. Open up Printers and find the one you want to share. Right-click and choose Share. Now click the 'Share this printer' radio button. Now choose a sharing name. Keep it simple - e.g. HP, Office, PC etc.
    3. Open a web browser on your Mac and type localhost:631 in the address bar
    4. You should now have the Common UNIX Printing System web interface up. Click the 'Add Printer' link.
    5. Type a name for the printer, making sure you don't include /, # or space characters. Click continue.
    6. Select Windows Printer via SAMBA from the Device list and click continue.
    7. For the URI, you need to include a username and password for an account on your PC. You then need to enter a URI in the following format: smb://username:password@ipaddress/printer. So for example smb://johndoe:[email protected]/HP
    8. Choose your printer's make, or if you have a PPD file for the printer, choose that. Click continue and choose your printer's model. Now click Add Printer.
    9. Done! You now have a list of options for changing the various properties of the printer.
You don't need to be on the same workgroup or domain as your PC, just the same subnet. If both your Mac and PC are connected to the same router, either wired or wirelessly, then you should be on the same subnet.
    Thanks guys

  • InDesign documents, exported to .pdfs then printed on PC and Mac laser printers - what are best settings?

Our in-house creative department produces a lot of materials that are no longer going to our commercial printer.
Projects are created in Adobe InDesign, exported as .pdfs and stored on a site, where marketing partners can then download the .pdfs and print.
Usually from laser printers, usually pcs.
I would appreciate any advice on choosing settings for the .pdf (export) to help manage color etc.
    thank you

If you are printing to laser printers by people that are not knowledgeable about color settings and device capabilities. I would not use Color Management. I would stick to something simple like Press Quality so that all the fonts used in your document will be embedded into the pdf so that you do not have to worry if the person printing the file has the fonts used in creating the documents.

  • Connecting both a PC and Mac to one iPod???

We have a fifth gen ipod. It's been formatted to a PC for my husband's iTunes. I added photos last night from my 12 inch Powerbook. The transfer went fine - it asked if I wanted to sync the iPod up with Powerbook and I said, no. I selected the iPhoto folders for upload and it compeleted the process. The problem: we couldn't turn the iPod off. It wasn't frozen, just wouldn't turn off.
Can we switch between computers and operating systems using the same iPod? Or is the reason it wouldn't turn off? And do we need to reset the iPod?
12 inch powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   also have a PC

Using an iPOd on two different computers is no problem.
do we need to reset the iPod?
This is simple and is the first thing to do if you have any problems at all.
Press and hold the Select (center) button and Menu (top) button.

  • Printing with R1800 and Mac - now getting beautiful prints - thank you everyone

I want to give a huge "thank you" to all the people on this forum who have discussed how to set up color-managed printing on Epson printers. As a complete novice, I naively bought an R1800 printer and thought that I would just whip out my prints at home. Alas, after messing with this off and on for almost a year, and after burning through 2 complete sets of cartridges and untold quantities of Epson Ultra Premium Luster paper, I was roundly cursing color management, profiles, monitor calibration, Epson, Lightroom, and photography in general. But the information from Jason Hicking in post 17 of one of the many threads on printing problems ( http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.3c05eae6 ) fixed my problem and I am now getting gorgeous 13x19" prints that look like what I see on the screen. Jason Hicking deserves an extra round of kudos for the investigation he did on this.
I am just a hobbyist and got my very first SLR camera only 18 months ago. I could never have gotten to this point without everything I have learned from this forum. Many, many people contributed pieces of information that helped me put the puzzle together.
Now, anyone have any ideas on how to get more wall space for putting up framed photos? :)
    --Kimberly Smith

    Claude
Glad to hear you've now got a working solution as I know you've put a lot of effort in yourself to resolve the issue with your 3800. Keep us up to date with any changes will you?
    DYP
Thanks for the thanks! I'm glad that I was able to nudge you in the right direction, sometimes we probably know the answer but just need someone to show us a different route to it. I'll come back to you shortly with regards to platform and driver versions if you don't mind as it will help in the research I'm doing as I mentioned in my initial reply to Kimberly.
    John
I'll also keep you in the loop with the discussion between DYP and myself on the driver issues if you like, and I'll also try to explain the theory between using Epson profiles and custom-built profiles for those who'd like to usderstand the issue deeper.
I appreciate fully that it's not just Adobe but until someone can fully explain the complete workflow interactions between different versions of Lightroom, Colorsync and the Epson drivers then we'll have to keep coming back to the 'apparent' culprit which appears to be Lightroom's new print pipeline. I say 'apparent' as the tests I've done so far show that my workaround isn't needed for InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop running on the same platform and drivers as Lightroom. If anyone can get 'those who really know' at Adobe to openly describe the above then please do so as this will help with my other avenues of enquiry at Apple and Epson.
As Doyle said for those who custom profile their machines, myself included, the current situation is that we've got a workaround but not a solution. I consider this to be an ongoing quest until it turns into a reliable, user-friendly solution.
Cheers for now, anyone with any thoughts please feel free to chime in.
    Jason

  • Connecting iMessages through phone and Mac

I am trying to make my iMessages go through both my phone and my Mac, but can't seem to find the code it asks for on my phone. Any help finding that code?

If on your phone you go to settings -> messages look for forward message. your device should be listed, enable it and a code is asked. After a short time the code will be shown in your messages on your mac.
If you don't receive the code, restart your phone, had that problem and rebooting the phone helped

  • Internet Connection lost between AEBS and Mac through LAN

For the last year I have had no problems with my AEBS. I have it configured like this: My Modem is connected via ethernet cable to my AEBS and then out to my G3. I have no airport card in my G3. All of a sudden I get no outgoing signal from my AEBS to my laptops, nor can my G3 get an internet connection unless I plug the modem directly into the G3 and bypass the AEBS. I am frustrated beyond words and my teenagers are impossible to bear without their wireless connections. Ideas? Thanks

  • Connection of Nano to both PC and Mac ?

Hello there! I was wondering if now that the NANO is flash based rather than hard drive based, whether this means that the device can be connected to both PC and MAC platforms simultaneously since there might not be formatting issues (like fat32 vs. whatever file system MAC uses)
Anyone knows if this is possible? Has it been tested/done with shuffle?

    Hi,
I imagine it's a bit of a pain, but it sounds like there is a conflict somewhere. The only other thing could be settings under the power options to stop hard drives or display after certain amount of time. Then there's always te happy thought of a virus, but hopefully not.
First double check power options (I know it's annoying) by right clicking on the screen going to the screen saver page and selecting the power management options, look to ensure that on both battery and plug, had disk and video are set to "Never". Additionally, ensure that power management isn't being handled by the Sony Vaio software.
Next, with the iPod plugged in, go to hardware manager and delete at least the iPod from where it appears. Ideally delete everything relating to USB, including the controller and then reboot with nothing else attached. Ensure that windows adds back each USB item one at a time. This will eliminate the chance of corruption (hopefully).
    Two other things to try.
1.) remove allother USB devices, even printer, and just have the iPod connected. If there is a conflict with another device this will help determine that.
2.) make sure that the iPod is connected directly to a SUB port on the PC and not connected through a USB hub. In the past, USB hubs have caused many sleepless nights for iPod users.
Let me know how all of this goes.
    Kevin
