Connecting Remotely To External Speakers?

I'm aware you can use iTunes to remotely connect to external speakers using AirPort Express. Is there a method to do the same with an iPod Touch? If not built into the software is there perhaps an app in the App Store that would allow you to do so. I'd enjoy being able to do things around the house and still keep my iPod Touch in my pocket at the same time in case I wanted to change music, pause, etc...
Can someone point me in the right direction (or destroy my hopes and dreams on this one)?

there is an app made by apple (free) called "remote"
it lets you control itunes and access your itunes library thru your touch/iphone. it has a volume control on that, that would turn the volume up on itunes.
so if your roaming around your house you can play any song/album/playlist that is on your pc/mac's itunes library from your touch.
hope that helps.

having trouble connecting my bose companion external speakers,  it does not appear in the sound configuration in system preference menu.  i am using macbook 15" on Lion OS. this has worked previously until i took the the speakers to Bose for repair of power supply.  Any ideas on how to troubleshoot and report back to Bose?

    Phoenix5791,
I would  like you to uninstall and reinstall your sound driver.
    Access your device manager
Expand the sound, video, and game controllers
Right click on the IDT option, left click on uninstall
Once that is done ,restart the computer
When the computer has restated give it a few minutes to reinstall the sound driver, once that is complete see if it does the same thing.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

  • Connect to external speakers

After upgrading to Lion on my Macbook Air,I can't seem to be able to connect to my external speakers through airport express..Somehow I cant't get the little icon i used to do,on the bottom right corner of the iTunes window (on the left of genius) to select the speakers..I checked the preferences in vain..

    Try rebooting the Airport Express.

  • ITunes 10 - no external speakers on AirportExpress (Win7/64bit)

Since my update from iTunes 9 to iTunes 10 my AirPortExpress can't connect to the external speakers (Hifi-System)
    unknown error(-15000)
    http://yfrog.com/e9itunj
With iTunes 9 everything works fine. The only thing I changed was the iTunes update.
    Win7 ultimate 64 Bit
    iTunes 10.0.1.22
    AirPortExpress with Firmware 7.4.2

O.K. - I just got off the phone with Apple. For all you airport express users out there and Itunes 10.
The airport express needs to be reset. Remember the fun we had setting it up - well here we go again.
For those of you who do everything remotely like me, computer (macbookpro) here, airport express there (plugged into kitchen speakers on top of cabinets), internet router/wireless there ....
    1. Unplug the airport express and your computer.
    2. Go to where your wireless router is and sit near it.
    3. Plug your computer - with wired plug into an outlet [not sure if necessary but I did it this way, powered up]
    4. Replug in your airport express near the computer/router as well.
    5. Press (w/pen or paperclip) the little reset button on the bottom of the AirPort and HOLD UNTIL THE LIGHT FLASHES GOLD and then let go.
    6. go into your Utility folder in Finder and open the Airport Express utility
    7. it will see it then and you need to go through the same process as you did when setting it up in the first place. Naming it, blah, blah blah.
I did all of this and confirmed that my speakers worked! I did suggest to the guy, John, that Apple needs to post something so every frustrated user could fix this problem.
    Best of luck all

  • External speakers on HP G72-130sa laptop

I have been trying to connect Logitech S220 external speakers to my laptop via the headphone socket but can get no sound.
Do I need to do anything on the computer itself (such as load drivers, adjust sound settings etc.).  I have been plugging the green speaker lead into the headphone socket.
    Hope someone can help

Hmmm, If you are getting sound for headphone Jack using Headphones...That the system is just fine....Now we are looking at Speaker and audio cable....I hope we have tested to see if the speaker set is working fine...
When it comes to simple setup like these, there are just 3 components that can be a problem area...Sound card, the Jack and Speaker itself....With Sound coming out of the jack using headphone than Sound card and Jack is working...We need to rule out speakers...
Just a wild card, try and install the audio driver from here... ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48281.exe
I don't see, it making to much of difference, but no harm trying....plus I am hoping that OS has not been changed....

  • I can't hear iTunes music or internet radio but internal and external speakers are definitely working. Is there a key stroke I have set or some other, maybe Yosemite, issue?

I have checked my internal speakers on an iMac and also the external speakers - all working. When play music in iTunes the sound bar moves but no sound is heard.  Same problem if I want to listen to the radio via internet.  Has anyone a suggestion.  Is it a Yosemite issue - I have had others involving printers. thanks

like davis says then even though I have connected headset and external speakers to my imac then at boot up the boot sound comes out of the imac speaker
but once booted into OS X all audio is played out of the headset and ext speakers and the imac speakers are silent as the grave

  • When using external speakers, they won't unmute

I am using a U530 Touch with Realtek HD Audio driver version 6.0.1.7535 and Windows 10 build 10240. When using external speakers, everything works fine, except when I mute speakers they will not unmute without unplugging the 3.5 mm speaker jack and plugging it back in to the unit. Using the laptop's internal speakers does not produce the same proplem (mute/unmute works fine). I have looked at every setting and find nothing, nor have I seen this problem reported in the forums. HELP!!!

Firstly how do I know if this is a 1st or 2nd generation shuffle? Bought in May at Palo Alto Store but there doesn't seem to be anything on the packaging to tell me.
1st Gen shuffle was white, plastic, and shaped like a chewing gum package.
2nd Gen shuffle is aluminum, with a spring clip on the back and comes in silve and assorted colors...
When the shuffle is connected to the external speakers(bought at the same
time) it only plays about 5 songs and then stops.
Does it play through the earphones after this happens? Does it still have power or is the battery depleted after it stops playing?
What Brand & model are the speakers?

The same behaviour repeats itself when usin both Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player. i have not ried any other media player.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

  • Updated iTunes won't connect to external speakers

I updated iTunes and now when I initially open it on my computer it won't locate my external speakers connected via Airport Express. I have made no other changes to my set up, computer, speakers, etc. I have to restart my computer and then the second time i open iTunes, it finds my speakers. This is a big pain and makes no sense.

I have almost the same problem - see my post earlier today at 7:48 am. When I had just Airport Express I could play iTunes to the remote speakers through AX. When I created a wireless network with Airport Extreme, then added the Airport Express to the wireless network as a client, now I can only play iTunes to either the computer speakers OR the remote speakers through airport express, however when I try to play to both (by selecting multiple speakers in the drop down box in iTunes) I get the exact same error message you get.
I thought it was something I had done wrong with the setup, but now that I know there's someone else out there with the same problem there must be some glitch with Airport Express when you add it to an exisiting network. I have tried resetting both my Airport Express and Airport Extreme, recreating the network, etc., but the same error message keeps coming back.
Has anyone out there done this successfully???

  • Connecting external speakers to TV model 50L2200U

I purchased a 3 pc speaker set that connects with the 1/8" audio jack.  My problem is I can't disable the TV speakers and control the sound with my TV remote with the external amplified speakers hooked up. Any ideas?

Do your speakers respond to remote commands directly? On my Toshiba TV, I turned down my TV speakers all the way. When I set up my external speakers, it had me press the volume up and volume down buttons so it could learn those buttons. Instead, I hit the rewind and fast-forward buttons (reverse and forward, perhaps?) instead. So my volume up and down buttons control the TV's speakers and by rewind and fast-forward buttons control my sound system. It's been working really well for me actually.

  • How do I connect Apple TV to external speakers and my TV?

I just bought an Apple TV for my studio apartment and have it connected to my TV via HDMI, and use AirPlay to stream my music and videos. Video works great, but the my TV's internal speakers are low quality. So, I would like to have my audio come from external speakers (which I have not bought yet), for the following 2 scenarios:
Listening to music via AirPlay, preferably without having to turn my TV on.
Watching videos on my TV, with the audio coming through my external speakers rather than the TV speakers
I see my Apple TV has an Optical Audio (Toslink) port, but the salesperson at the nearby electronics store said none of their speakers have Toslink cables, only 3.5 mm (or USB). The only solution I found is an AV receiver box that has optical input but costs hundreds of dollars. I am looking for something cheaper and am willing to settle for "pretty good" sound quality.
Is there another way to get this to work?
This article recommends using a digital audio converter (DAC) to connect the Apple TV to a stereo amplifier. This seems like it would satisfy scenarios (1) and (2) above.
Also, I found this "Toslink to 3.5 mm adapter" for a few bucks; could I just plug that into my Apple TV and then connect it to any speakers (like computer speakers) with 3.5mm input?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Rex,
Since the toslink is optical, the 3.5mm adapter will not work for you as it is only ment as a conversion to a mini-toslink cable. Your first option of using the DAC, is in my opinion the best and perhaps only way to get audio out without going to a fancy amp or tuner first.
One option that I'm considering is the Bose Solo TV sound system. It might set you back about 4-Grant's, but I generally enjoy the sound of bose for most music/tv/movie purposes; and it has a direct optical audio input that you can run either from your tv or your ATV. Whatever audio you're sending to your TV via the HDMI, should go to these speakers through your HDTV's toslink output with equal digital clarity.
I've read a few other posts on the apple discussion forum which lead me to believe that the optical output of the ATV might not work so well after the 5.2 update... so whatever I do, it won't be JUST for use with the ATV.

  • How to connect external speakers to Satellite A100-451

    Hello,
I have a Satellite A100-451 (UK) running Vista. I want to connect external speakers. There is a 'headphones' jack on the front (3.5mm jack I think), can I connect external speakers here? The speakers are 'PC Line' with their own power supply and also have a 3.5mm jack plug).
    Thanks
    KK

You need the audio Line-out put and the headphone jack provides this output.
In other words you can use this jack to connect the external speakers

  • External speakers / connect to receiver???

i love my new Aluminum 20" imac, but I'm wondering what my options are for external speakers, or how i can connect to my stereo receiver from my headphone jack. i know there is some kind of digital audio out connection thru the headphone jack, but i dont have a digital audio in connection on my receiver.
i hope someone out there can help.

    Hello dgraysn
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
There are many different external 2.1 speaker systems out on the market to chose from that will plug into the iMas 3.5mm output jack. Here are a few examples in the link below like Creative, Altec, Logitech and Bose.
    [2.1 Speaker Systems|http://www.google.com/custom?q=2.1+speakers%20systems&sa=Search&client= pub-6263300333013957&forid=1&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&cof=GALT:%23008000;GL:1 ;DIV:%23336699;VLC:663399;AH:center;BGC:FFFFFF;LBGC:336699;ALC:0000FF;LC:0000FF; T:000000;GFNT:0000FF;GIMP:0000FF;FORID:1;&hl=en]
To go to your home stereo receiver you will need an adapter cable that has a 3.5 stereo jack on one end and a twin RC (red & white) jacks on the other.

  • Sound - My built speakers do not show in the output section in sound system preferences area only digital out hence unless I connect external speakers I have no sound - can anyone assist?

on my IMac the internal speakers have ceased working - in the sound preferences area only digital out sound is there no internal speakers to choose so unless I connect external speakers I have no sound

    Hey Jack (woofman jack)
Sounds like the micro switch inside the output jack that switches the audio from internal to external is stuck on external. Try plugging a set of buds, headphones or digital Toslink adapter in and out a few times to see if it will unstick the micro switch. You also might try jiggling a tooth pick around inside the audio output jack to see if that unsticks it? If not then you'll need to make an appointment at your Local Apple Store or Apple Service Provider and have the jack serviced.

  • How do i connect external speakers

I am migrating from PC to Mac.
I would like to connect my Altec Lansing 495 external speakers whic is a 5.1 system to the Imac.
how would I go about doing this?
    Will I need any drivers?
    Thanks
    deputyaj

Do you have the manual? This http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/acc/ACS495/ doesn't mention Mac support for the USB software part of the controls. So you use it in Stand Alone mode, which I assume means you just connect the subwoofer to the headphone jack on your iMac, like any other set of speakers. But no more software control menu like on your PC.
