Connecting sql server database as source system into BW in unix/oracle

Hi
We have a requirement to extract the data from MS SQL server database as a source system into the BW3.0B instance, which is running under HP-UX/oracle.
We have been told that Microsoft does not supply a SQL Server driver for UNIX.
So in this case, we need to have a option to complete it.
Please let me know if some one has any similar type configuration existing.
VJ

In general, BI application servers can only be supported for DB Connect on operating system versions where a SAP Database Shared Library (DBSL) has been released for the BI database and the source database.

  • Options to connect SQL Server database securely

    Hello All,
I am working on one of desktop application and requires very high security features related to database. One thing I require is do not want to store connection string in computer where application is installed i.e(App.Config) file.
Also do not want to store it securely because during connection establish anyone can sniff the traffic and may capture whole connection string and so SQL server.
One solution to my problem is build web service layer so that we do not need to concern about database connection. However as I am in middle of development, this option seems last hope for me.
So I required help about another options that can fulfill my requirement security about SQL server connection string and database.
    Anyone having any idea?

  • Need To Create a table in Sql Server and do some culculation into the table from Oracle and Sql

    Hello All,
I'm moving a data from Oracle to Sql Server with ETL (80 tables with data) and i want to track the number of records that i moving on the daily basis , so i need to create a table in SQL Server, wilth 4 columns , Table name, OracleRowsCount, SqlRowCount,
and Diff(OracleRowsCount - SqlRowCount) that will tell me the each table how many rows i have in Oracle, how many rows i have in SQL after ETL load, and different between them, something like that:
    Table Name  OracleRowsCount   SqlRowCount  Diff
    Customer                150                 150
    0
    Sales                      2000                1998
    2
    Devisions                 5                       5
    0
(I can add alot of SQL Tasks and variables per each table but it not seems logicly to do that, i tryid to find a way to deal with that in vb but i didn't find)
What the simplest way to do it ?
    Thank you
    Best Regards
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
According to your description, what you want is an indicator to show whether all the rows are inserted to the destination table. To achieve your goal, you can add a Row Count Transformation following the OLE DB Destination, and redirect bad rows to the Row
Count Transformation. This way, we can get the count of the bad rows without redirecting these rows. Since the row count value is stored in a variable, we can create another string type variable to retrieve the row count value from the variable used by the
Row Count Transformation, and then use a Send Mail Task to send the row count value in an email message body. You can also insert the row count value to the SQL Server table through Execute SQL Task. Then, you can check whether bad rows were generated in the
    package by querying this table.

  • Connecting MSSQL Database source system from BW 3.5/Oracle 9.2.0.6/AIX 5.3

    Hi,
We want to extract data from MSSQL database source system into BW 3.5/Oracle 9.2.0.6 system in AIX environment. Apart from intsalling NT app server,UDC, XI,flat file options, can you please suggest any other methods to extract data from SQL database into  BW/AIX system?. Thanks in advance.
    Thanks.
    Raj.

    Raj,
Did you find any solution for this problem. We are having exactly the same issue and are trying to do it with SAP DBConnect.
We are able to create a Source System for MSSQL server but it does not connect since the "Database Shared Library" is not installed on our BW 3.5 AIX box.
From what we gather there is NO DSL for MSSQL for AIX. I cannot believe we cannot connect to MSSQL directly since we have too many MSSQL databases all around the company.

  • Connecting SQL Server 2008 + CF8 mac

    Hello,
I am currently porting all of our access databases to SQL Server 2008 and i am using a mac for development. If anyone can tel me how to connect sql server database from the cfadmin on mac to a virtual environment on parallels 5. In the cfadmin on mac SQL Server is listed as a kown datasource you can connect to but the only way i see to do this is thru a virtual environment or remote.
    Please help
    Thanks,
    D

Having not used Parallels in some time I couldn't say for sure, but essentially that SQL engine needs to be accessible from Coldfusion on an IP address somewhere. Depending on what networking mode you're using, that'll either be:
    1 - Its own IP
    2 - Localhost, or 127.0.0.1
As long as your ColdFusion instance has network access to the SQL box, there's no additional config required.

  • SQL Server database (read-only mode) in Oracle SQL Developer

    Hello,
I connected SQL server database with Oracle SQL Developer 3.2.10.09, everything looks good except i can only browse data, i cannot change data in tables cannot insert new or delete rows. Query is also disabled (i got message: Query Builder is not supported for this connection type.) I used Third Party JDBC Drivers - jtds-1.2.6.jar as my connection to SQL server. Is there a way to change data in tables?
    Thank you.

AFAIK editing table data in the grid is only possible with an Oracle database. On MS SQL you'll have to use update statements in the worksheet.
    Hope that helps,

  • Connect SharePoint to SQL Server Database Then Build Rules Based Returns System

    Hello Guys,
I work for an ecommerce business. We sell a wide range of products to customers all around the world which are ordered from our websites and then dispatched to our customers from our warehouses.
I have been tasked with developing a computerised return system from the company because at the moment everything is done using paper forms.
We have all our customer, order and product data within SQL Server databases.
What I would like to know is...
    1. Can we connect sharepoint online to a local sql server database
    2. Could we then build searches within sharepoint to display data contained within these databases e.g. customer information etc
    3. How is the data presented in sharepoint - is there a way to design how the data is displayed within sharepoint etc?
    4. Can we then build a rules based return system within sharepoint? The on screen workflow would need to vary according to data contained within the database e.g. the weight if the product being returned and also on fields input by the service agent such
as the reason for the return, what solution the customer would like etc.
    5. is it possible to build these workflows in such a way that they can be saved part way through then gone back to later
    6. Can reports be build based on the returns that are being generated e.g. list of products most commonly returned
Sorry for all the questions, I am a bit of sharepoint novice. I think it may possible be able to do what we need but I just wondered if the answer to any of the above questions is definately a no because if it is that could mean it is not suitable
    Thanks

You could use a BCS connection
http://community.office365.com/en-us/b/office_365_community_blog/archive/2012/10/11/business-data-connectivity-services-in-office-365-sharepoint-online.aspx, this will allow you to edit data in your non SharePoint SQL DB, on premises, from Office 365 SharePoint.
Search will index the web applications you point it at, and the lists from the BCS will be part of those web apps, site collections, sites at some place and will get indexed.
You can create views on the data, that can sort of work like a search, but when you search on the site where the lists are the query will return results based on the BCS data.
These views can be based on criteria such as the weight of the product being returned and other fields.
The data is presented as a list.
You can make it read only or read-write based on SharePoint permissions on the list.  The account used to create the connection can edit.
BCS is possible in on-premises SharePoint too
here is a good read on it,

I am fairly new to vb.net and have read a few books and followed a few tutorials on youtube, what I would like to know is, are there any disadvantages
to the way I have connected to a SQL database using the SQLControl.vb.  A lot of the vb books include data adapter and dataset within the form, I'm not sure if I'm following best practice by have the connection details outside of the form.
My other question is, I have created two connections in the SQLControl and call these connections within the same form using the same data adapter
and dataset.  It all works fine but I just wanted to know of any potential issues?
Public SQLCon As New SqlConnection With {.ConnectionString

    1) You are not using Sepration of concerns for a solution that is doing data access, like using a DAL.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_concerns
    2) You are directly issuing SQL commands at the UI, leading to sql injection attacks.
    3) You are not using a UI design pattern, which leads you to tightly couple database activity to the UI.
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/228214/Understanding-Basics-of-UI-Design-Pattern-MVC-MVP
@System243trd, parameters are important to prevent SQL injection attacks (people will insert SQL commands into the database if you do not perform basic checking of what you are passing to the database). If you write a stored procedure try to make
the variables the correct SQL server data type to avoid problems later of people trying to call it directly.  Darnold924 is right, I see no code to prevent against SQL injection attacks. In addition, during development in some instances LocalSQLDB
database system is used and during deployment you usually need to use the production SQL server database. Moreover,  Linq-to-SQL is used on Windows Phone 8.1 and it is required for phone development later and so I highly recommend learning
it if you plan on developing windows phone applications.
@System243trd, If you want the code for the windows phone app I think it uses the MVVM model or that might be for universal apps or regular windows phone apps. I have been using the windows phone Silverlight pivot or panorama template (it might
be pieces of both). I've already submitted to the windows phone marketplace and it had to go through certification first. I plan on later making an article on it but I need to first fix one or two simple problems I have with it.  Here's a link to
the source code if you later want to look at the source code (in vb.net):

  • How can I  connect to SQL server database thru local network by using JSP?

I'm currently doing a project by using JSP..And I need to display record from the SQL Server database in our school's local network. May I know how can I do that? How can I write the code so that I can able to access the SQL Server databsase Throught school's network by using JSP? Please tell me step by step how can I do that. I'm using Tomcat 4.1 as Web Server. And I had J2SE and J2EE installed in my computer.

first you have to establish a ODBC DSN on your computer,
that connects to the database...you can do that from your control pannel.
i assume that the TOMCAT server is residing on your computer....(if the webserver is in other computer then you would have to create a System DSN on the data sources ODBC option in the settings>control pannel of that machine)
then you can use that DSN name to connect to the data base from the class file....for further assistance on how to create the class that access the tutorials in sun site.

  • Connect & transfer data from SQL Server Database

    Hi all,
I would like to connect to MS SQL Server Database and transfer data from the data stored in the SQL Server Database tables into Oracle Tables.

What operating system is your Oracle database running on?
If you're running Oracle on Windows, you can use Heterogeneous Services and Generic Connectivity along with the Microsoft SQL Server ODBC driver to create a database link from Oracle to SQL Server. If you're running Oracle on something other than Windows, you can do the same thing, but you would generally need to license either a third party ODBC driver or one of the Oracle Transparent Gateway products.

  • Connection with MS -SQL server Database

    Hi Experts,
We are new with Oracle SES.
We have created one table in MS SQL server 2005 in testing database called as Northwind, table is EMPdate with adding required column name as "URL","KEY","CONTENT","LASTMODIFIEDDATE","LANG".
Now we create database source in Oracle SES by giving following things
    Database Connecting String: jdbc:sqlserver//<Loaclhost>:1433;databasename=Northwind
    UserId:
    Password:
Query: Select URL,KEY,CONTENT,LASTMODIFIEDDATE,LANG,'text/html' CONTENTTYPE from EMPdate
    path separator: #
    Document Count : -1
    Parse Attributes :false
And create Source & when we run schedule on this datadase source we got error that "invalid SQL command"
Please can you provide sequence of steps to create MS SQL Server database source & generate the statistics.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response.

"Connection for Source DataConnection failed because the environment is not trusted"

    Hi Brian,
In Acrobat, security concerns dictate that you cannot specify an ODBC connection string by using the Driver=; syntax. Therefore, the client computer using the form needs to have a DSN pre-configured for ODBC connections.
