Connecting to a database on a network

Is it possible to connect to a database on a network drive?

Never mind I did get it to work.

    What about manual refreshes?

  • Unable to connect to MySQL database

    Hello,
    I have written a DatabaseManager class that controls access to a locally stored database, implemented in mysql. In theory, client request should be passed to the DatabaseManager through RMI, but I cannot even create a connection to the database yet!
    Here's my connect statement:
    con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://127.0.0.1:3306/media", "mysql", "mysql");When this statement is executed, the following exception is produced:
    java.sql.SQLException: Unable to connect to any hosts due to exception: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission file.encoding read)Can somebody explain to me how I successfully create a connection to the database? I would be extremely grateful. Also, could somebody explain how I could connect to the database from a remote machine using the following connect statement:
    con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://server:3306/media", "mysql", "mysql");I have a feeling I need to grant a certain PropertyPermission in my policy file, but I'm unsure of what values I should be using.
    Thank you in advance.
    Pete

    Thank you for the prompt reply.
    In answer to you question: No, it is not an applet. The DatabaseManager is a class that implements a Remote interface, I have it running on the same machine as the mysql database (the server). I then have a small GUI that runs on a client machine which is used to make RMI calls to the DatabaseManager across the network in order to query the database.
    When the DatabaseManager object is spawned on the server, it tries to connect to the database to be ready for client queries. This is when it produces the exception mentioned in the original post.
    What confuses me is that in my original implementation, the DatabaseManager object was run on the client and the mysql JDBC had no difficulty in connecting to the database across the network. Could the security manager have something to do with it? I am using the RMISecurityManager in conjunction with the java.policy file from the Java RMI tutorial on the Sun website.

  • How to connect to remote database

    Hi experts,
    i want to connect with another database in our network what are all the steps i need to follow? i just confused with listener.ora and tnsnames.ora. waiting for your ideas.....

    The database listener is the process that is configured via the listener.ora file. The administrator of the other database should have configured a listener for that database.
    On the client machine, you'll need to configure a tnsnames.ora entry unless you are using Oracle Names, Oracle Internet Directory, EZConnect syntax, or something like JDBC to connect. The administrator of the other database should be able to give you a tnsnames entry for connecting to his (or her) database.

  • How can I  connect to SQL server database thru local network by using JSP?

    I'm currently doing a project by using JSP..And I need to display record from the SQL Server database in our school's local network. May I know how can I do that? How can I write the code so that I can able to access the SQL Server databsase Throught school's network by using JSP? Please tell me step by step how can I do that. I'm using Tomcat 4.1 as Web Server. And I had J2SE and J2EE installed in my computer.

    first you have to establish a ODBC DSN on your computer,
    that connects to the database...you can do that from your control pannel.
    i assume that the TOMCAT server is residing on your computer....(if the webserver is in other computer then you would have to create a System DSN on the data sources ODBC option in the settings>control pannel of that machine)
    then you can use that DSN name to connect to the data base from the class file....for further assistance on how to create the class that access the tutorials in sun site.

  • "Unable to connect to the database" when connected to corporate network

    Hi
    Installed Primavera P6 V7 and Oracle 10g in Stand alone on XP 32bit machines with SP3. When our machines are NOT connected to the corporate network it works fine.
    However when connected to the network we can not access the locally stored database. We get message "primavera unable to connect to the database. would you like to configure the database connection now"
    Database on servers that we set up are fine regardless.
    If we connect machines to just the internet, again no issues.
    So something is stopping Primavera opening local database when connect on our corporate network.
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks

    This may be a long shot but look into how your TNSNAMES.ora file is being distributed on the domain (or are you possibly utilizing LDAP.ora on the domain side?).
    Some time ago I remember a company scripting an ENV variable on domain logon that altered where the Oracle client would pull the TNSNAMES from.

  • Uable to connect to citadel database on network in MAX

    I have a question regarding the "Citadel 5" in MAX 3.0.0.3/LV 7.0 (Win2k environment). Using MAX I can open/browse a database stored on the local PC and browse the tag names, but when I try to connect to a PC on the network with the same configuration, I am unable to browse the tag names of the remote database. I can well see the database name itself on the remote PC. In the database symbol of the MAX browser there is a yellow exclamation mark with red border displayed. I can't find any information what this means.
    The remote PC is configured to allow full access for the local PC. Using the logos:// protocol I am able to read and write to the remote database.

    Yes, I can browse the tags locally on the remote PC.
    Citadel version is 5.

  • "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" on RAC databases

    I am posting what solved our situation here, in case it helps others:
    We have RAC databases that use SCAN, but also use their Local_Listener ports (because we could not go completely to SCAN due to our applications).
    For some reason, 11.1 Grid Control could see instances if we added them separately, but if we tried to connect to the database & view the performance, it would error out with "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection".
    We had to fix it by manually setting the connect string in every instance and database in the OEM Setup to the non-SCAN VIP/Ports.
    Hopefully this saves someone else hours & hours of troubleshooting. (I know, the day after Grid Control 12 comes out. SOOO helpful. :P )

    Aravind K R wrote:
    java.sql.SQLException: The Network Adapter could not establish the connectionWhere is the Oracle error? I hate this - s/w like Java suppressing the underlying error codes and messages. Just how the hell can one diagnose an error when not knowing exactly what it is? There should be a TNS error code and message.
    From the info you've given, one can only guess. And the following guess is as good as any. Load balancing is requested. Likely your RAC db services are registered on both static and virtual IPs - as the listeners are running listener 1521/tcp end points on both.
    This means the client can get a redirect to connect to a specific listener on a specific IP - and this includes the static IPs. The listener usually passes hostnames (as that is what is configured). If the client cannot resolve that static hostname to an IP, it cannot correct.
    So make sure that the client can resolve both virtual and static hostnames of the RAC - not just the virtual ones.
    If you're client is Windows, update the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file - alternatively register the hostnames with the local DNS.

    Lost network connection of open database
    How to solve this problem?
    Message was edited by: jcnet

    Hi, I discovered in (Win 7 & 8 I assume) that if you go into your network adapter settings and click 'Configure' then go to the 'Power Management' menu there is an option to 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. I unchecked this and now no more crashing with the network connection lost error. Not sure it will work for everyone but might be the solution for some.

  • Problem with upgrade due to no connection to audit database

    Hello everyone!
    Today after work I wanted to finally upgrade ZCM but run into some problems.
    We have three servers: Two primary servers and one database-server (OEM Sybase SQL Anywhere). All three are running on SLES 11.
    I want to upgrade our ZCM11.2.4MU1 to ZCM11.3a and then to 11.3.1.
    I started by upgrading the Sybase database and running dbunload according to the documentation.
    Then I continued with "sh install.sh -c" and chose "Audit Database". I selected the OEM Sybase SQL Anywhere with port 2639.
    Admin, password and database-name were unique. But I made the mistake to set the servername to the same as the zenworks-database. *sigh*
    The installation completed.
    The sybase-asa and sybase-audit-asa services couldn't run at the same time, therefore I rebooted the database-server and installed the audit database again with a unique database-name.
    Before the upgrade I could start dbisql and connect without problems to backup the database. Now I cannot connect anymore without using the additional parameter: links=tcpip{host=IPorDNSName,port=2638}
    Connecting to the Audit Database via dbisql is not possible, with the following message:
    Code:
    Could not connect to the database.
    Database server not found
    Ensure that the name in the "Server name" field is spelled correctly, that the network options on the network tab are correct and that the database server has been started.

    DBN=zenworks_audit_database2
    LINKS=ShMem
    ENC=NONE
    links=tcpip{host=<ip>,port=2639}
    With that said, it is not possible to upgrade the first primary server because the setup routine is also not possible to connect to the Audit Server:
    Code:
    We were unable to create a connection to the database. Please check your
    connection information.
    Specify the existing ZENworks database and database authentication information
    for an existing user with sufficient permissions.
    The services sybase-asa and sybase-audit-asa are both running. I also restarted them a couple of times.
    zenworks_database.conf and zenworks_database_audit.conf look fine.
    Do you have any idea what I missed?
    Is the duplicate servername still somewhere existend and prevents the proper running?
    Thank you very much in advance for pointing me in any direction!

    Oh boy... and no backup?
    Not sure how to get the sybase back working again... my first choice in
    such a case would be to make a contact to Novell, are you able to
