Connecting to a RDBMS on Windows Platform from a Linux Java Client.

Hi All,
I want to connect to the SQL Server 7.0 (or for that matter of fact any RDBMS) running on Windows NT environment from my Java Client on Linux. From the web, i came to know that we can use ODBC Drivers on Linux but not sure how to implement this.
Could you guys please help me in solving my problem ??
Even links to the articles on the web would be great.
Thanks,
Gaurav.

Use the JDBC driver for SQL Server from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/SQL/downloads/2000/jdbc.asp. Alternatively, you can use the drivers from http://www.freetds.org and http://www.thinweb.com

  • Can't connect to SMB share on Windows server from only ONE mac

    I have over 20 macs on my network. All are running the same version of the OS. (10.4.9) Almost all of the macs can connect, using SMB, to our Windows 2000 file servers...but only ONE of them can not. When I try from that mac, I get the following error:
    "The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "smb://myservername" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)"
    This same mac that has this issue can connect to any of our other Win2K file servers and all my other macs can connect to the server that this mac can't...which is very confusing for me because that tells me that the mac is fine and the Win2K server is fine as well...
    Any ideas?

    -36 is a bit generic, but usually means the Windows® machine is denying because of bad Password. Have you tried deleting that particular reference/share in Keychain Access and redoing it?

    What options are available? Would a samba client have to be installed on the UNIX server first?

    Hi!! I am new to socket programing in both C and Java.
    From let I downloaded some client server example for c and java and tried that to link !! (I allways learn this way , and I need to do that little urget )
    though cient server in linux is working perfectly fine and same for java. But problem is when I tried to communicate C server on linux and java client on windows, I end up with getting some junk characters. Though they are connected successfully.
    Here goes code for java client:

    hii!! just trying to make it a little more explinatory
    1) what I am trying to accomplish by the above code is: - just need to echo/print from the Server , message send by the Client. I know code is not that good but should be able to perform this basic operation( according to me ).You are wrong. I told you that it won't work as long as you are using ObjectOutputStream and ObjectInputStream. You shouldn't write objects.
    2) Message sent by the client is "hello world"(hard coded).No, it's not. You are writing a serialized byte array.
    3) what I am getting at the client end is "*message recieved: ur*" (before that It shows the Ip of client machine)
    It should print "hello world ".See above.
    You are having a problem, and I have told you what the problem is.hey I dont know what went wrong but . I posted all this just next to my first post ...before you posted !!
    And hard coded byte array includes "hello world"...may be I am not able to explain properly.

  • Can't access a bpel process from a standalone java client

    Hi i am using soa suite 10.1.3 and i'm trying to invoke a bpel process from a java client
    I am using the tutorial from this page: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/bpel/pdf/orabpel-Tutorial7-InvokingBPELProcesses.pdf but i am trying to do the client in eclipse
    my class from where i want to invoke the proces looks like this:
    import java.rmi.RemoteException;
    import java.util.Map;
    import com.oracle.bpel.client.Locator;
    import com.oracle.bpel.client.ServerException;
    import com.oracle.bpel.client.dispatch.IDeliveryService;
    import com.oracle.bpel.client.NormalizedMessage;
    public class Invoke {
         public static void main (String args[])
              try {
                   Locator locator = new Locator("default", "bpel", (String)null);
                   IDeliveryService deliveryService =(IDeliveryService)locator.lookupService(IDeliveryService.SERVICE_NAME );
                   String xml =
                        "<ssn xmlns=\"http://services.otn.com\">123456789</ssn>";
                   NormalizedMessage nm = new NormalizedMessage( );
                   nm.addPart("payload", xml );
                   NormalizedMessage res =
                        deliveryService.request("CreditRatingService", "process", nm);
                        Map payload = res.getPayload();
              } catch (ServerException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              } catch (RemoteException e) {
                   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                   e.printStackTrace();
    The problem that i had firs was that the security.properties file could not be found in the config directory of the projects root. I think i resolved this problem by copying the context.properties file from teh rmi tutorial from the folder 102.InvokingProcesses and rename it.
    After this the error that occure was that the file ejb.properties could not be found in the same directory as the security file.
    Does anyone know how to resolve this problem or where did i miss anythink?
    I tried until now all the examples in the tutorial step by step and i couldnt manage to run one
    Thanks

  • Invoking a secure web service from a standalone java client

    I am using stand alone java client to invoke a web service. This web service in turn invokes a jcs which is protected ( role based access ).

    I need to pass the username and password from the java client that will be authenticated and allowed to access the protected resources.
    Please let me know as to how this can be achieved ( passing username and password from client )

    Paula,
    I suppose you're using CFINVOKE (http://www.activsoftware.com/code_samples/code.cfm/CodeID/44/ColdFusion/Invoking_SOAP_Web_Services_with_ColdFusion_MX_CFINVOKE_Tag) or are you using a third party tool like CFX_SOAP (http://www.activsoftware.com/products/productdetail.cfm/id/1015)?
    Are you working with WebAS 6.4 or 6.2?
    It works with web services created with WebAS 6.4, but you should generate proxy classes. Check Thomas' weblog (second part of it)->https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/1012. The WSDL generated by this method is more standard than the one generated when you just Remote enable an FM and look at the webservice browser.
    Th core of CF MX is Java and that engine is rather strict in standards.

  • Connecting to SQL Server on Windows 8 from WindowsCE

  • Data Connection to MS-SQL using Windows Auth from untrusted machine

    We have an Excel Spreadsheet that uses a Data Connection to a MS-SQL database.  The database server is joined to our domain, and Windows Authentication is enabled.
    Here is a sample of the connection string (with revealing info obfuscated):
    Description=DataConnection;DRIVER=SQL Server;SERVER=10.x.y.z;UID=domain_user;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Microsoft Office 2010;DATABASE=DatabaseName
    And the Authentication Settings are set to "Windows Authentication"
    This works perfectly fine from a domain-joined / trusted machine.  It doesn't even ask for credentials; it just works flawlessly when I hit Refresh.
    It will work from a non-domain / un-trusted workstation, if I use SQL Authentication.  But we are trying to move away from that.
    Likewise, it will from a non-domain machine using Windows Authentication if I use "runas" to launch Excel with domain credentials, as follows:
    "runas /netonly /user:domain\user %path-to-excel%\excel.exe"
    However, using "runas" is a kludge, and our employees will almost certainly have issues... even if I were to create batch files to help automate it.
    When launching Excel normally (without using "runas") from a non-domain machine, it gives this error when I hit Refresh:
    Upon hitting OK, I have the option to un-check "Use Trusted Connection" and manually enter a user/password.  I put in a valid user that would be able to connect fine from a domain-joined machine, or that worked fine using "runas".
     This is the error it gives with that:
    At this point, I have not a clue what to do to get Excel to successfully connect with domain credentials from a non-domain machine.
    Ideas?

    Hi ltwally1,
    From your description, you want to connect to non-domain machines using domain credentials. Based on my research, you can use the
    ShellRunAs utility to achieve your requirement , it provides functionality similar to that of RunAs to launch programs as a different user via a convenient shell context-menu entry.
    Reference:
    How to Run Programs as a Domain User from a Non-domain Computer.
    However, if you still encounter issues by using  ShellRunAs utility, you can consider to use the Credential Manager built into Windows. For more details, please review

    Hi,
    To connect to the Database Engine from another computer, configure SQL Server for mixed mode authentication.
    Add the port number after the server name.
    Also try connecting with the IP address.
    If no progress, please check the error message in ‘\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.<instance name> \MSSQL\Log\ERRORLOG’

  • Problem calling ejb in oas from non-oracle java client

    I am trying to call an ejb that is deployed in OAS 9i from a java server page running another non-Oracle app server.

    The ejb works fine with jsp on OAS, but (at the moment) using OAS as our production web container is not an option.
    Is this even possible?

  • Calling a webservice(JAX-RPC) from non java client ?

    Hi,
    I read JAX-RPC is used for accessing webservices by calling the webservice methods from a java-based client.
    Is it possible to call the Webservice methods(writeen using jax-rpc) from a non-java client,who sends his request in the form of SOAP based calls?
    If JAX-RPC is not the correct one to call a RPC from a non-java client,In what way i can do this?
    Can anyone please clarify my doubt..,
    Thanks in Advance
    Rao.,

    Hi Arun,
    Can i write a my client program using cgi scripts?
    In the JAX-RPC docs it was said that i can invoke my Webservices through my Service endpoints or using WSDL location?
    If iam using a Non-java Client,it will be easier(I think) to use the WSDL file to call the Web-Service(deployed using JAX-RPC).But,the Client should be aware of that WSDL file.
    I have to develop a small Application using webServices(must use XML,SOAP technologies).The user will pass some Parameters as request and the Response should be an XML(SOAP message) message.User should be able to request via browser.(http://localhost:8080/)
    Can you please suggest me which technology is correct to use,so that i can use the XML,SOAP in it.
    Please let me know...,
    thank you once again..,
    Regards
    Rao.,

  • On Windows Platform, encounters error when trying to open an Indesign document created from MAC

    Hi all,
    On Windows Platform, encounters error when trying to open an Indesign document in INDD format created from Mac. Error received "Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by other application". I am currently using Adobe Indesign CC 9.2 Trial version.
    Kindly advise how can i open this document on windows platform and allows me to edit the document.
    Thanks!
    With Rgds,
    Fiona Choy

    Normally there is no problem to open any INDD opening on Windows, when created on the Mac.
    But Mac user are often not aware on the naming limitations. A file name must not contain /, \, |, :
    It should not contain any extended character, it is not a primary problem but will be, if something links to that file, so avoid also: ÄÖÜäöüß+&
    You can use all other non A-Z a-z, 0-9 and - and  _
    I personally would also recommend to avoid spaces.
    This is valid for the INDD file itself but also for all linked content.
