Connecting To An Access DB On A SharePoint Site

I am attempting to use an Access (2007) db (.accdb) file located on a SharePoint site and am encountering problems connecting to it.  The paths I have tried are:
http://xxx.yyyyyyy.company.com/sites/xxxx/TeamSite/buildsupport/MW/Work%20Effort/Access_DB.accdb
and
xxx.yyyyyyy.company.com\sites\xxxx\TeamSite\buildsupport\MW\Work%20Effor\Access_DB.accdb
Any assistance would be appreciated.  I am using CR XIr2.
Thanks!

Hmmmm, ok, will try ODBC (don't know why I didn't think to do it earlier).
Thanks - will post whether it works or not.

  • User has appropriate permission, still not able to access one of the sharepoint site applications.

    Hi,
I have tried all solutions available on internet regarding this problem but none seems to work.
As per one solution I added the user in sharepoint site collection administrator group still no luck!
As per another solution  I tried to run “User Profile Service Application Proxy – User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization”
“User Profile Service Application Proxy – User Profile to SharePoint Quick Synchronization”
but they dont run for some reason. Both these jobs are scheduled to run everyday but last time they ran was some date in 2011. When I click on Run Now nothing happens.
I deleted all cache, forms password history everything.  Added the site in trusted sites and all. No luck!
User also tried to access the site by logging onto another system but still same issue.
This user recently joined alongwith a few more people. All of them are able to access the site except this particular user. So, a web part or unpublished page cant be the reason, right?
This user is only able to access the home page which is say http://<siteurl:1234> application while the site which this user is not able to access is
    http://<siteurl:2345>.
I even tried to give access through sharepoint designer but no luck! Please help!
PS: This may not be relevant but still I'm sharing. Earlier I used to add users in manage user profiles - new profile. But now as soon as the user is added into active directory there profile is getting created automatically. This might be happening due to
active directory and user profile sync but the question is how? Because I dont remember configuring this. And it was not configured earlier too.

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that only one user cannot access the site even though he has the right permission.
I recommend to verify the things below:
Check the permission of the user in the site to see if the permission is right.
Is http://<siteurl:2345> a new site collection ? Can the user access other pages except the home page in
    http://<siteurl:1234>?
Grant needed permission to the user in the web application to see if the issue still occurs.
Delete the user and re-add the user in AD to see if the issue still occurs.
Check the ULS log for detailed error message.
    Best regards.

  • Uploading Access split database to Sharepoint Site.

Hi, I'm having trouble finding instructions on how exactly you would upload a split database to SharePoint. If I split my database locally i can't then move the back end.
I want to upload my the back end of the Access database to "mysitesname".sharepoint.com I have full admin privileges but the only place I see to upload a file is the "shared documents" area of the site which I presume would only be useful
for hosting the front end for users to download. Trying to split the database to the site by using it's URL "https://"mysitesname".sharepoint.com/SitePages/Home.aspx" nd variations results in access telling me the site could not be reached.
I'm sure this is something simple to do and I'm just missing some critical piece of information.

Thank you for the reply but I'm not using a web database or web app. I should have mentioned I solved the problem yesterday.
A split database is simpler than I thought, mine is just a standard access database with linked tables. You share your file (front end) around and the back end is just a bunch of SharePoint lists if you are using SharePoint or an access file containing tables
    if using a file server.
My problem was that I couldn't upload my back end to SharePoint. I ended up making my tables into SharePoint lists and uploading those to my personal SharePoint folder as the team site didn't allow me to upload them.

I have the Access Request feature enabled in my O365 SharePoint site. This functionality is working fine for a single Site Owner's Email-ID and he is receiving the mail in his Outlook with an option to Approve/Deny the request. But when I specify the Email-ID

  • How to access our company's sharepoint site with short name?

    Currently, mycompany.sharepoint.com is accessible.
We would like to set up with a simple name like sp1, point, etc...
what needs to do on DNS server or Share point to make this happen?
    Any input appreciated.

    Hi,
In DNS create a short name from which you want access sharepoint.
Assign it the same IP address as of SharePoint Machine.
Than in SharePoint central Administration Change the Alternate access mapping for your web application.

  • Connect to MS Access using External Content Type

I am trying to establish connection to an Access 2013 DB from SharePoint 2013 Designer.
I am in External Content Type. My database is on local drive. When I click on Add Connection, I have the following choices,
    .Net Type
    SQL Server
    WCF Service
Which one shall I choose for access. What would be the Database Server. The database is local.
    Thanks
    Mayank

    Hi Mayank,
If you want to use ECT to display the data of the Access database, per my knowledge, you need to import the Access database table into SQL server, then use to ECT to connect to the SQL server table.
More information about importing an Access database table into SQL server, you can refer to the link:

    Hi Foxvito,
Claims authentication types supported by SharePoint 2010 are Windows Claims, forms-based authentication Claims, and SAML Claims. In SAML-Claims mode, SharePoint Server accepts SAML tokens from a trusted external Security Token Provider (TST). From the
blog you referenced, it seems to use the SAML Claims authentication.
However, the Reporting Services client applications: Report Builder, the Report Designer in Business Intelligence Development Studio, and Management Studio do not support connecting and authenticating with LiveID or SAML Claims based SharePoint Web applications.
That's because the SAML Claims don't use the Reporting Services authentication endpoint. So, you have to change the Claims authentication type to use Report Builder on the SharePoint site.

We have already added the certificate used for the SharePoint site and the provider hosted app in the SharePoint central admin trusts.
Any idea's how can I resolve this issue?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to access provider host app using https.
The reason for this is that SharePoint implements its own certificate validation policy to override .NET certificate validation.
Fix is to setup a trust between SharePoint and the server requiring certificate validation.

  • Breaking the Sharepoint connection within an Access database

We have recently changed our online database to a new system. We downloaded all the current information into excel or access. However my major database to track all staff training, mandatory renewables and policy reviews will not allow attachments to be
uploaded to the access database because "the sharepoint table is no longer available". We have had many problems with sharepoint, and wish to convert the database strictly to access and break the sharepoint connection to the former website. Is there
    a way to do this?

  • Excel links to Access DB Hosted on SharePoint?

    Hello-
I manage a site for intercompany financial reporting, and I am attempting to automate our monthly reporting. Specifically, I want to use Access to automatically report data to specific excel spreadsheets hosted in secure files on our SharePoint for
data visualization and analysis. The criteria for the system seem to make it unfeasible as far as I know, and that is why I am asking the question of how to do this here.
    Objectives:
    1. Link an Access database located on the sharepoint site itself to numerous satellite excel spreadsheets. Hosting from my PC or a shared team drive isn't an option, as not everyone will be able to automatically "Refresh" data if its located there.
Ive been able to link excel to databases on hard drives but not those on the SharePoint.
    2. Excel spreadsheets should refresh automatically, without any input from the site admins or end users. All I want my team to have to do is upload a new Access file at the month's end. That access file will have the same structure and queries every month,
just updated with new data monthly.
    3. Data transfer should be one way. We want to be able to report out data but we do not want others to be able to alter it in such a way that it impacts the Access DB.
In summary, we want to upload one Access DB and allow the queries to provide inputs for a number of reports so that those who need the information can open an excel file and view the most recent data without having to refresh it or us having to
allow them editing privileges. Your thoughts are apprecciated.

    Hi Stags3648,
First, if I understand correctly, you want to connect to an Access Data from an Excel file. Both the Access Data and Excel are stored in SharePoint library. If I have misunderstood anything, please don't hesitate to let me know.
    For your questions:
    1. We can connect to Acces file(in SharePoint) from Excel using the URL path. e.g.
http://site/Shared%20Documents/, and then select the Access Database file.
    2. In order to force the Excel file to be refreshed, there is no out of box(OOF) solution.
The possible workaround is using customized code to open the Excel file, refresh the data, and then save to SharePoint library again.
    3. If we just connect from Excel to Access, the end-users won't be able to change any data from Excel to Access by default.
Excel is a good for data visualization and analysis. But why not using SQL Server Reporting Service(SSRS)? While using SSRS, end-users can be only able to view report, the reports can be refreshed automatically.

  • Trying to access SharePoint Site, Hosted in Azure, from public Internet

I am looking for basic guidance on how to browse a SharePoint 2013 Environment, Hosted in
Azure, from a PC not located on the same network. In other words from an internet connected PC. I believe this was working until some Azure or Windows update took place, and now I can no longer connect to my environment
via SharePoint Designer, IE, or ShareGate migration tool. (I am NOT looking to open up a public facing website with Anonymous access.)
Currently when I try to access http://Server_Name.cloudapp.net I end up looking at a IIS 8 Splash Screen.
There seems to be a combination of settings that need to be in order for this to happen. I believe they fall into the following topics Any help is appreciated.
    Azure Settings:
    DNS name: SERVER_NAME.cloudapp.net
    ENDPOINTS
    IIS Settings:
    Bindings
    DNS Server Settings:
    Host A Records
    SharePoint Settings:
    Alternate Access Mappings
    Other:
    Hosts File
    Windows Server Firewall

    Hi,
How did you publish the SharePoint site hosted in Azure to Internet?
I recommend to follow the link below to see if the issue still occurs:
    http://thuansoldier.net/?p=4044
As Microsoft Azure changes public virtual IP address every time you turn on your virtual machine, please make sure you check the new address then assign it to SharePoint AAM again.

  • A connection to the SharePoint site cannot be established. To synchronize or refresh your list, you must be able to connect to the SharePoint site

    Hi,
I have a SharePoint 2010 farm with two Web Applications.
    For example:
    https://contoso.domain.com
    https://finance.domain.com
Both Webapp use https --> 443. Same valid certificate for both (*.domain.com)
I tested exporting an Excel library in https://contoso.domain.com.
It export and sync up sucessful the Excel library and it updates it OK.
However, once exported the Excel library in https://finance.domain.com, when
I try to syncronize or update the library I receive an error back, which indicates: "A connection to the SharePoint site cannot be established. To synchronize or
refresh your list, you must be able to connect to the SharePoint site". I had tested the WebDav (Map Network Drive) and the connection results OK.
Do you have any idea about this issue?? Why https://finance.domain.com do not
synchronize or refresh in excel o SharePoint site???
I had tested the security with IIS, SSL, WebDav.
    Thank you,
    Gaby

    Hi!!!
    I solved this problem.
I created a new Application Web in the farm (https://project.domain.com), dismount content database the old application web ( https://finance.domain.com)
and the new application web (https://project.domain.com).
    #New AppWeb project.domain.com
    Get-SPContentDatabase -WebApplication https://project.domain.com | Dismount-SPContentDatabase -WhatIf
    #Old AppWeb
    Get-SPContentDatabase -WebApplication https://finance.domain.com | Dismount-SPContentDatabase -WhatIf
Mount the old content database to the new application web (https://project.domain.com).
    Mount-SPContentDatabase "WSS_Content_Finance" -DatabaseServer "MyServer" -WebApplication https://project.domain.com
If you want to keep the same url, change the alternate access mappings.
Remember to change the bindings in IIS.
    Hope you help the solution...

  • Permissions for connected SharePoint sites

    hello forum members,
can someone please explain to me how do permissions work for connected SharePoint sites if Project Server set up to use Project permissons instead of SharePoint ?
Another question I have is that our environment was once set to use SharePoint permissions , then changed to use Project server permission mode.  I checked on one user who could not login to Project Server and when i clicked on "Checked Permissions"
on a ribbon - it showed that this person had full rights, but when i went to check on Project security group - he was missing there. It was very confusing.
Does "Check Permissions" actually works when environment set up to use Project server mode permissions?
    tatiana

On top of the very good Paul's explanation, here is what happens behind the scene:
case 1: you assign a resource to a project task, you save and publish project:
A hard coded job will parse assignment table and will put :
Project manager (MS office project synched) role to the project owner
Team member (MS office project synched) role to resources with assignments
In addition, 2 additional jobs will give suitable permissions to the resources part of security groups of PWA:
1 gives access to PWA site (to access my tasks, time sheets...)
the other one gives proper access to the resources who have dynamic rights(ie: if they are part of a PWA group that has a category, for instance, giving read to anyone who has Same RBS as project owner
Case2: you add a resource in PWA as part of a security group
1 job for PWA top site + 1 job for each project of server will give suitable rights to the new resource.
Case3: you change the permissions of an existing security group (more exactly to the category set to the group )
1 job for PWA site + 1 job by project will populate on each project site the new permissions. Mind to do that out of peak hours or you'll have a big slow down.
Case4: you add manually permissions directly in the project site. In this case one should never add people in an synched group or rights will Be overwritten during the next project publish.
note there are known bugs for large data set when many synch jobs stay in the queue: we can have jobs conflict and a general permissions loss.  On top of that, a sync job including people whose active directory accounts are bad (having left the company
for instance) can block permissions syncs.... We demonstrated this fact to Microsoft and we are working on that with them...
    hope this helps

  • Accessing External Data from SharePoint 2010

I want to access external data from my SharePoint site.
I'm told that I need to follow these two articles.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff953161.aspx
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff625800.aspx
I followed the first article but I get this error when I open the external list in my SharePoint site:
"Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator."
I don't know how to write a custom code
BTW I have installed PowerPivot on my SharePoint server.
Can someone please help me? I need to do this very quickly.

    Hi,
Can you please elaborate whether the data you are getting is from excel file or from database.
    1. If you are populating it from excel , then you can use the Excel service, Power pivot etc mechanism.
    2. If you are getting it from SQL database then you can use BCS service application and use the OOTB external list and content type to display the same in your home page.

  • Access 2010 Linked to Sharepoint online - avoid direct access to sharepoint stored data

    Hello,
I have an access 2010 application (front end)  connected to SharePoint online team site (as back end).
I wish to allow my users to work with the front end but to avoid direct access to the data on SharePoint Online.
The user will open the access application and it will auto connect & work with SharePoint online.
    How can I implement this?
    Thank you for your help

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to use Access 2010 to connect the SharePoint Online data.
In Access 2010, you can connect the SharePoint list as a external datasource like the capture below. It will need to input url and user credentials to access SharePoint site in the wizard. If you want to connect automatically, you will need write some custom
    Micro code to achieve it.
If you have some question about Micro code to connect SharePoint list automatically, I suggest you can create a new thread in Access Development, you will get more detailed information from there.
