Connecting to Sun VDI service takes 4 minutes

Hi,
I have a Sun VDI 3.1 setup with one virtual primary broker, two physical secondary brokers and 3 additional connection brokers.
I have vmware at the backend as a desktop provider.
When a SunRay connects to one of the additional brokers a RDP session is almost instantly available.
When a SunRay connects to one of the secondary brokers it takes exactly 4 minutes to connect to the desktop.
does anyone have an idea?

  • FTP problem: connection going idle or missing; takes a minute to refresh

    Hi, i hope i explain myself, please forgive me my lack of tech-language and if i'm redundant:
    In my office we got a G5 dual that we turn into a server (Mac OS Server 10.5.7) for a couple of websites (for external use). I need this guys to have FTP access for some file sharing. Server is up, websites and databases are running fine, remote administration in local and external network is flawless, everything seems fine, except for the FTP: When i connect with cyberduck or any other FTP app, the authentication is done quickly but then, the connection goes idle (like it didn't exists) so the folder listing takes about a minute. Then, as soon as you get the listing, if you try to put something (i.e, a big file of 50mb, using the local network), the app makes a quick login but then it goes idle again (same, about a minute) and when the connections appears, the transfer goes really fast, after the transfers ends connection goes idle again a minute before managing the folder listing. I know that the connection "goes idle" or "disappears" because i started using little snitch to take a look at it. It appears like if the ftp app wasn´t even trying to connect, then suddenly, it´s there and connects/transfers. Every operation takes this minute to get going. If i try it with a browser, well, it times out. This is happening in both, local and external connection. But every other service is working cool.
    Can you give me any ideas about this matter?

    Ok, rather than going for the most problematic protocols known to modern networking, try with something simple.
    Don't test with ftp, test with sftp.
    I would initially suspect you're running into issues with firewalls here; beyond transmitting your credentials in cleartext, the design of ftp is inherently extremely allergic to firewalls, and particularly to transfers over connections that involve both local and remote firewalls.
    ftp is funky here in that it needs two connections between the client and the server, and the second connection tends to get blocked. An ftp active-mode connection has a back-connect from the ftp server to an ephemeral port on the client; traversing firewalls from server to client. An ftp passive-mode connection has a forward connection; a second parallel connection from the client to a specified (usually) ephemeral port on the ftp server; traversing the firewalls.
    Ignoring explicit transfer-mode selection, various clients can (transparently) try to switch between active and passive, too.
    My preferred approach is to avoid ftp. At all. Use sftp. sftp is far easier to punch through firewalls. And sftp doesn't transmit your username and password in cleartext, for that matter.
    The other part of this effort is around ensuring proper file protections and ownership in the web server directories. The web-facing file ownership should be user:www (often root:www) and the www user (the web server) should be able to read its web files, but (in general) should not be able to write to the web files or directories. This is defensive.

    Hey kristiac,
    Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you have no service on the iPhone. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • My macbook pro (lion 10.7.2) takes several minutes to connect to the internet after waking from sleep.  Is there any way to make this instant?

    Hi
    My Macbook Pro 15 inch takes several minutes to be able to connect to the internet after waking from sleep.  Does anyone else have this problem and is there a fix?

    The message that comes up when I click on "TomTom Home Install" is "You cannot open Home Install because Power PC applications are no longer supported." Does this mean that the TomTom, which is absolutely vital to my life - well, not literally but you know what I mean - can no longer be used with my MacBook Pro?
    What that means is that is can't be used with Lion 10.7.  PowerPC was the chip Apple used up until 2006 when they switched to Intel.  At that point, they created the Rosetta emulator to allow for PPC support for 5 years.  They finally dropped the support with the release of Lion.  It will only work with OS X 10.6 or earlier.  The other option is to purchase a new GPS, which can be had for $100 for a decent one.

  • The sc command, (service control manager), takes 3 minutes and 30 seconds to create a service on Windows 8.1. and 2012R2

    Unique circumstance: SC create This takes 3 minutes and 30 seconds on one domain when
    using Windows 8.1 & 2012R2.  We have two domains:  D1.com
    and D2.D1.com.  If we place a Windows 8.1 or 2012R2 VM on the D2.D1.com
    domain and run the sc command to create a service using a D2.D1.com domain
    account it will take 3 minutes and 30 seconds to create the service.  It
    will create the service successfully, but will take 3 minutes and 30
    seconds.  If we use the sc command to create a service using the obj=
    parameter and use an account which is a member of the D1.com domain as the
    parameter, the service is created immediately. Note: using a windows 8 VM
    on D2.D1.com domain it does not exhibit the same behavior.  Also note that
    placing a Windows 8.1 VM on the D1.com domain does not exhibit the same
    behavior as well.  Consequently, this leads us to believe that the sc
    command is timing out on the validation of the domain account and then using a
    different validation method which is successful.<o:p></o:p>
    Commands
    used:<o:p></o:p>
    sc create test binpath= C:\windows\test.exe   (logged in as D2.D1.com
    user)    <o:p></o:p>
    sc create test binpath= C:\windows\test.exe obj= D1\username password= something<o:p></o:p>

    Hi,
    Based on my understanding, when you run sc command to create service, it takes long time, but when use sc command to delete the service, it runs fast. right? If so, the issue should be related with the command you used.
    I also would like to suggest you refer to the below link to use sc to create service, we may also post in the MSDN forum:

  • Wireless backup of 2k takes 20 minutes, connect cable 5 minutes

    I keep reading that the wireless connection on time machine to a mack book pro such as mine takes hours, but I know that it should not. With so many comments on this, there must be a bad batch out there. So how does one diagnose this problem.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    You say that you read the wireless connection on TC to a Macbook takes hours? I assume you mean that it takes a long time to back up over wireless - That depends how much data is being backed up.
    The initial backup could take a very long time. Mine took 4 hours on a nearly new Macbook via cable. Subsequent backups do take less time but again, it depends how much is being backed up.
    If your subject line is accurate in that 2 KiloBytes takes 20 minutes on WiFi and 5 minutes on a cable then yes, this is a long time to back up 1/500 of a MegaByte (If my maths are correct, which they usually are not).

  • OSX 10.9.5 start up takes several minutes to connect to internet

    My mac mini has now got a faster boot up time since having a SSD installed.  However, I have noticed it takes several minutes for it to connect to the internet.  Under Login Items, I use to have my NAS setup to connect a drive on start up.  But, I always received the error "There was a problem connecting to server."  I removed it.
    What I have tried so far:
    Upgraded from 10.8.5 to 10.9.5, that didn't change anything.
    I have a Airport Extreme router (7.6.4) and even swapped it out for a Linksys router to see if that was the issue.  That didn't matter.
    All new ethernet cables for the router and mac mini.
    Firewall turned off on OSX.  I have since turned it back on since that didn't change anything.  I do have Little Snitch running too.
    Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    When you say your machine is near capacity ... you want to keep at least 10% of your hard drive empty for systems usage. Less than that and the system slows way down.
    One thing you can do is to use this tool to see what your largest files are on your system - move data to an external hard drive and delete, or just delete unused/un-needed data: http://software.filefactory.com/Mac/WhatSize_10-3-91.html
    You might also run MacJanitor to run the daily/weekly/monthly scripts, which sometimes don't run automatically: http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/macjanitor.html. Some have found using a utility like OnyX can help with disk space. OnyX is available from http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html . Note OnyX does the same thing MacJanitor does, plus much more.
    You can use Monolingual to delete the languages you know you'll never use from the operating system - depending on choices it can save over 1GB. Choose language options carefully, as you can muck things up if you rush through it: http://monolingual.sourceforge.net/

  • Connecting To Airport Takes 10+ Minutes

    When I restart my computer, my wireless card is able to instantly find my wireless network but when I try to connect to it, I get a variety of responses (usually something like "Cannot connect to this network") when I try connecting. After anywhere from 5-30 minutes, I'll get no notification but my Internet will magically start working. I'm quite knowledge about computers and networks but have no idea why it would magically start working. I can walk away from my computer and come back in 40 minutes and then it will be working perfectly. My iTouch and my Windows Vista laptop will connect whenever a signal is present. In the nearly identical circumstance, it will take my Windows desktop anywhere from 5-30 minutes to get Internet from a signal that it tells me is present. If my WiFi connection goes down (likely from problems in my provider) my connection on my desktop will go down for a minute but then instantly give me Internet again when my router is sending real signal.
    Also, when I brought my entire desktop to a friends house, my desktop interacted with the wireless router perfectly but it wasn't an airport express. I was able to restart the computer, find his wireless network, and connect/disconnect nearly instantly. That is why I am guessing there is some configuration problem with the Airport.
    In summary, when restarting my computer, my computer takes 5-30 minutes (it's random and varies) to connect to my Airport but once connected, works perfectly. I can walk away from the computer and the WiFi signal will be working when I return.
    Specs:
    Desktop computer
    OS: Windows Vista
    Wireless card: Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N PCI Adapter WN311B
    Router: Airport Extreme 802.11N, running WPA, Software 7.4.1
    Has anyone had this problem or have insight into how to fix it?

    We have some similarities in our problem: My issue is that, it takes around 3 minutes to connect to the router. It's exactly the same thing happening every time. It searches the area for available WiFi signals, then tells that "No connection or limited connectivity" error, and a second later, it connects. Typically, this case occurs when I start the connection to the router, or power goes off and then comes on, or I restart the router, or during loss of internet from ISP end. It's extremely annoying that it's repeating the same stuff everytime I connect or it re-connects to the network. I do not find time to resolve the issue, due to the nature of my work, however will try today and tomorrow and post something useful.
    Another problem I have is that I cannot use my Seagate 500 Gig external HDD (FreeAgent) with my router, while it's perfectly working with my 80 Gig Seagate portable external drive. I will post this problem elsewhere.
    Note: I'll get a thinkpad within a week from now, let me see if the problem replicates there also. I have not had any problems connecting to any network apart form this. I usually have the proficiency to resolve any computer problem, no matter what, but this seems to baffle me!

  • When i ask my macbook air to print it tells me it is looking for my printer it takes several minutes before it finds it and then prints, why is that as my wife is connected to the same printer in the same way (bluetooth) and hers prints straight away

    As per my question, when i ask it to print it tells me it is looking for my printer this takes several minutes before it prints.  my wife is in the same room using an imac also using a bluetooth connection to the same printer and hers prints immediately.  why is this.

    Perhaps you could try this to resolve your issue:
    *How to Reset the Printing System*
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
    4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
    5. Restart your Mac
    This will remove your print queues but not your printer drivers. So you will only need to add your print queues again.

    More details:
    Here is some output from the AIX machine primary LDAP ont1285.caas.com, secondary LDAP ont1158.caas.com both using port 389:
    It appears that on startup the 4 J2EE Applications initiate a connection to the LDAP ont1285.caas.com to read their configuration data. I then hit a few pages with primary still connected. At that point we have 5 ESTABLISHED connections to ont1158.caas.com.389. Then at 15:37:49 I hit a page with primary LDAP unplugged from network. At 15:47:03 the JNDI Lookup call returns (code snippet below). A new connection goes to SYN_SENT state for about a minute and a half, then a connection to the secondary is ESTABLISHED.
    Any suggestions on what can cause this delay or another method to call to timeout quicker?
    Thanks,
    REM

    While there isn't a timeout that can be made known to the JNDI/LDAP service provider, a timer can be
    set by the application itself.
    It might be useful to do something like below:
    In your JNDI application you start the timer before the operation that need to timeout, for example:
    class SimpleTimeKeeperTest {
    public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception {
    TimeKeeper.start(5000);
    // operation that needs a timeout
    while(true) {
    Thread.currentThread().sleep(10000);
    class TimeKeeper extends Thread {
    long timeout; // in milli seconds
    long timerStart;
    Thread parent;
    TimeKeeper(long timeout) {
    parent = Thread.currentThread();
    this.timeout = timeout;
    this.start();
    public static void start(long timeout) {
    new TimeKeeper(timeout);
    public void run() {
    timerStart = System.currentTimeMillis();
    long waitTime = timeout;
    while (waitTime > 0) {
    try {
    this.sleep(waitTime);
    } catch (InterruptedException ie) {
    // ignore and continue
    waitTime = timeout - (System.currentTimeMillis() - timerStart);
    System.out.println(waitTime);
    parent.interrupt();

  • Logging to database takes 2 minutes

    Hello experts,
    There is a server with MSSQL 2005 SP2 and SBO 2007A PL 44. On every warkstation SBO client log to database after 2 minutes. It doesnt matter how many SBO client i run on warkstation, its allways takes 2 minutes.
    I checked LAN, transfers etc. and everything seems to be OK. In SQL Profiler it stops while quering FLT1 - Form settings(but there is a few records - new installation). I guess problem is connected with MSSQL.
    If anyone had similar problem and resolved it please post it here. (sorry for my english)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Is it possible to use OpenSolaris for Sun VDI 3.1 core servers?

    The documentation states that Sun VDI 3.1 core servers must be Solaris 10 (u7 or u8).
    While it is not supported to use OpenSolaris (2009.06 dev_129/130 or SXCE snv_129) for the core servers, is this expected to work at all in practice (i.e. in a single-host demo environment)? Are there any issues regarding bundled recent SRSS and SSGD running on OpenSolaris platforms, in particular?
    The problem is that a potential customer wants to evaluate Sun VDI and can spare some old Netra servers for the installation, which were acceptable as Sun Ray servers in previous life. These servers have two "eri" interfaces and a "dgc" interface, and need to connect to several networks (public, ldap, management and new test-sunray vlans). Solaris 10 does not provide drivers for "eri"'s nor "dgc"'s to create VLANs, so the customer wants to try OpenSolaris and CrossBow to spawn VNICs or VLANs. If that goes well indeed, my original question stands up.
    If this is known not to work, we'll save some time from pointless tests and push requests for different hardware :)
    TIA,
    //Jim

    I had a similar problem. One of my VDI test systems is from HP and and has a RealTek "RTL81xxx" chipset that is not supported under Solaris 10. But there is this page here:
    http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/
    Take a look. There are many free Ethernet drivers for Solaris there. You have to compile them yourself, but the process is straightforward (just follow the instructions). I was able to get my Ethernet interface working via the "gani" driver, so my interface got the name "gani0". It may look odd, yes ... but it works. VDI now works tip top on that HP machine. Take a look at that page above ... maybe you can find the right drivers for your cards too?

  • Sun VDI 3.1-EA: "Microsoft Remote Desktop" Provider -- Bug?

    It seems there is a bug in VDI 3.1:
    After having added a VirtualBox desktop provider I also wanted to add a Windows 2003 terminal server as desktop provider, so I go ...
    - https://localhost:1801
    - Desktop Providers
    - Windows Remote Desktop
    - New ...
    - Step 1 ... Next
    - Specify New Host
    ... And now it asks me for this information:
    Host:
    SSL Port: 443
    User Name:
    Password:
    SSL Port? For a Windows 2003 server?
    I am confused ... So I want to check the "Help" tab. The "Help" tab links to this URL:
    https://localhost:1801/vda/faces/jsp/providers/tswizard/NewTSProviderWizard.jsp#
    So guessing from that URL ( ... "NewTSProviderWizard" ...) I'd expect to find information regarding Windows TS servers?
    But the help text reads ".... Enter the hostname or IP address, and administrator credentials for the *+VirtualBox+* host server ... "
    VirtualBox? I wanted to get help with Windows 2003 TS.
    So I'd assume that this is a bug?
    - the "Add Microsoft Remote Desktop" wizard will get you the one for VirtualBox
    - Help text is talking about VirtualBox too
    I assume that this will be fixed before the final release?
    Regards,
    DJ.

    What specifically does your customer object to ?The server being +"touched"+. That's already enough for them. I'm ashamed to admit this ... but I too was a Windows admin once. I was young, stupid and I needed the money. ;-)
    So having been a Windows admin once myself ages ago in my dark past I can fully understand them. One stupid patch, one stupid incompatible product, one silly addon someone somewhere wrote ... and that server dies in a nice ugly "Bluescreen of Death". Or so they think. Because a typical Windows admin spends 90% of their daily job running from one dying Windows server to another dying Windows server the last thing they want is yet another server that is bound to die because one of us unworthy Penguin worshippers dared to install something on it ....
    So NOT having to install anything on that server like with SSGD is perceived as being OK.
    Having to install ANYTHING on that server for which the admin doesn't understand the reasons within 1 second simply is a NO GO for them.
    +"Why doy ou want to install this BS? My RDP connections work tip top without that thing you want to install ... take your hands off my server ... "+
    So ... How do I explain to a very very stressed and hyper-nervous Windows server administrator that I need to install some SSL stuff on his precious Windows 2003 or Windows 2008 installation when SSGD (also from Sun last time I checked ...) didn't need that? And none of his other RDP applications need that?
    How do you explain something like that? YOU CAN'T. The discussion is over even before it can begin. And if their Windows administrators are screaming like mad and panicking that you are about to hose their precious Windows systems then soon enough even their managers (who up to that second were on your side) demand an explanation ... "Why does VDI require that when SSGD didn't require that??"
    In the end it's easier for me to configure an Windows RDP application via SSGD and deliver it that way to the VDI sessions than argue with the customer and their nervous admins about why in the world I now have to touch their servers with this stuff ...
    See what I mean? Yes, I know: I exagerated slightly. Just to give you a feeling of the troubles us people in the frontlines are facing.
    SERIOUSLY:* The RDP-Provider in VDI 3.1 is in need of being re-evaluated and re-designed. Like it or not: But it simply is not going to fly the way it is now. Most Windows admins simply don't want any additional stuff installed on their servers. PERIOD. Because only the Gods know what other things such stuff will break one day ...
    So the RDP provider in VDI 3.1 should look and feel and act exactly like the one in SSGD. If you want to offer RDP-over-SSL: fine, offer it as an option for the lucky few who don't have to argue with their customer about that.
    RIght now it's easier for me to create a Linux VM that auto-boots into a pre-configured "rdesktop" session and then deliver that as a login option to users than to argue with the Windows admins why their precious servers need to be touched ... So yes, I'd say this part of the Sun VDI 3.1 product is in need of a re-design.

  • Sun VDI - Two Factor Authentication

    Dear Colleagues,
    The simple way to implement two factor authentication is by replacing the vdaclient.jar. We are working on RSA SecurID authentication with SSO support, by using the Windows password integration feature of RSA SecurID. The RSA Authentication Manager (version 6+) has a field for caching the Windows password, normally used by the Windows Authentication Agent (6.1+). These agent API methods are not available in the JAVA agent API nor the c API for Solaris, but we will work around this for our new RSA Authentication Agent for Sun VDI.
    If I understand the broker service correctly, this will not be a solution for direct RDP connections. Users can only be challenged with their AD username and password, the broker will test the credentials using Kerberos and if successful proxy a RDP connection on behalf of the client.
    Does anyone know a possible alternative? Does a roadmap exist for full two factor authentication support on the broker?
    Best Regards,

    Hi
    Thanks for your response. I don't think I made myself clear. We run UAG 2010 and have not implemented Direct access. We now have many users wishing to access our internal resources. Our internal info security bods have demanded we provide a two factor authentication
    methodology. Direct access need at least Windows 7 enterprise on the client. We cannot afford the licencing. Nor can we currently afford windows 2012 cals. What I was after was a method of implementing two factor authentication on our current UAG
    portal. I have access to a radius server. I am not an expert on UAG the guy who was has left.
    Regards
