Connecting TV to Powerbook G4

Hey. Please help me understand what needs to be done to connect my TV to my G4 Power Book to see the project Im working on now in Final Cut Pro 5. I have attached the S video out to the TV and I am seeing the desktop image on the TV screen, but when I open FCP, I am not able to see the project. I believe its some sort of setting in FCP that needs to be changed, but wouldnt know which one...

Technically the official way would be to connect via firewire and change the video that way, but if you want to just get a general idea you may be able to just drag the DV canvas from the powerbook screen to the tv screen, and just make sure the canvas window is set to 100%. In my head that works, but it's probably not gonna give you the best output, cause it'll be slightly scaled to fit the rest of the canvas window and the video itself. If you have a consumer camcorder, you can probably use that, and just take the tape out, plug the firewire into the PB, and then use the camera's RCA cable to connect to the TV from the camera, that's what I do all the time.

You can't simply change the details.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)

Connecting the 1440x980 Powerbook to the TV, placement and cropping issues.

The last Powerbook I owned was the 1.87ghz 15inch at 1280x800 resolution. When I connected the computer to TV via s-video, everything was smooth, perfectly cropped and looked fantastic.
My new Powerbook, the last model Apple manufactured, has a 1440x960 resolution, and disappointing s-video output. After connecting the s-video to my TV, I connect to my Powerbook, hit Detect Displays and wait for a connection. The quality is perfect, but the image has a half inch black border on 3 sides and is flush with the right side of the TV.
Why am I having issues with this Powerbook? Is it the new resolution, bad video card? Is there any way to shift the image slightly or fill the remaining space?

Thanks for the tip, how do I change the refresh rate once the Powerbook is attached to the TV? The option seems to disappear once I hit Detect Displays.
I notcied that Overscan will get rid of the border, but then I have the problem of over-cropping and losing part of the image.

Assuming you mean a Mac Book Pro (Powerbooks haven't been sold for almost 10 years, and a Thunderbolt port would only be present in the MB Pro) I have a couple of observations
I don't believe there is such a thing as a thunderbolt Super drive. SuperDrives are USB.
Converting a USB super drive to use thunderbolt interface will be an expensive ordeal. Almost as expensive as the super drive itself. And i doubt the interface would support the Superdrive anyway. i.e the Mac is not expecting an optical drive through the TB interface.
There's no benefit in doing it. Speedwise, you would still be limited to the USB speeds. And port usage wise, it would be a waste of a powerful port.
Any reason you can't use a USB port?

Help! Trying to Connect Turntable To Powerbook. No output!

Hi everyone,
I just want to play my turntable through my powerbook, then to external speakers, as a stereo. I do not want to record!
I have a magnetic cartridge turntable. I connect this to a preamp. The preamp's 2 RCA jacks are converted to a single 1/8" stereo phono jack. In System Preferences, I am getting Sound Input. But, I am not getting any output! What am I doing wrong!?
This has been a total pain in the butt. I'd really appreciate some quick advice. Thanks!

Dan,
By default, the audio in does not pass through to audio-out. Doing this can set up a feedback loop if, for instance your audio in was the mic and out was the speakers.
You might try looking at Audio Hijack not sure, but it might help. It is free to try, good luck.

Looks like you are working with a vintage product and the operating system is a little outdated, which makes it harder to troubleshoot. It's possible that it doesn't support WPA (depending on the Airport card built-in). Otherwise, if you can connect via ethernet, check for software updates. It even might be as simple as restarting the computer.

Sprint Treo 650 connection with Apple Powerbook G4 867 MHz runing 10.4.6 ??

I am trying to use my Sprint Treo 650 as a modem with the Apple Powerbook laptop running the latest version of Tiger.
The old Treo 600 worked just fine using the laptop with 10.3.7.
But the old 600 died and I was forced to purchase a 650.
The Treo 650 manual says its possible to use the Treo 650 as a modem. The Apple manual says its possible to use a mobile phone as a modem.
I have actually gotten to the point where, after inserting "passords" like 654379 on my Treo after they were issued by the Apple. I've been told:
"Congratulations, you are connected"
They lie to me.
I've read about "hacks" for the TREO and the need to install special scripts. The instructions go for 26 written pages.
Is there not an easier way? These are the kind of things that make me not even want to visit the Apple Store ever again.
And I love my Apples!

Power Mac G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Don't know if it makes a difference (I don't think it does), but I have no problem connecting Treo 650 (Sprint Vision service) to my MBP 10.4.6 as a wireless modem. Make sure that you have the latest firmware on Treo 650 that enables DUN (Dial Up Network) on BT pref.
I just simply used the OSX BT setup, making sure that my 650 is discoverable and with a code (paired) for security. It is also using 650 serial port as RS232 port.
Connecting to 650 is done through Network connection on system Pref or via Airport menu. Under BT, configure as Other, the number to dail is #777 with account name and password to your Sprint Vision account (not your Sprint main account login or pw). It should be something like [email protected] for account name and corresponding password for that.
I think this is all you need to do. Did not use any hacks (in fact I completely stay away from Hacks - I have simple needs and want to keep things simple).
You'll have to probably try few times to get it all right and connect but it should not be too bad.

Connecting IPOD to powerbook G4 using USB1

When connecting my Ipod to powerbook I get a message telling me that this is a slow USB1 connection.
When adding songs to the Ipod from my Itunes library I get the following messages: Attempting to copt to the disc hrveylee ipod failed; an unknown error occured (-48); or Disc could not be read from or written to. Is this because of the slow USB1 connection; my ipod is 2 weeks old. Also, sometime is keeps trying to synch and it takes several times.

Yes you can get these error if the iPod is connected to a slow USB port like one on the keyboard
So I would suggest you to connect the iPod to a hight power USB port on your computer and restart the computer with the iPod connected to the computer

Help needed connecting iMac and PowerBook to Blueyonder cable boradband

I'm not too knowlegeable aboout computers, so please be gentle with me!
I have had broadband supplied by Blueyonder (cable) for some time with no problems.
I have now bought a G4 PowerBook and an Airport Extreme unit and with them to share the internet connection and to share files.
The iMac has no AirPort card so I want to connect that via Ethernet, but the laptop will be wireless.
I have managed (just) to get the network set up so the two computers can share files (so I assume the AirPort unity isn't faulty), but I cannot get either machine to connect to the internet when connected to the AirPort Extreme. I can only connect by plugging the ethernet cable from my modem directly into my iMac.
I used the Airport Setup Assistant on the laptop and ended up with a message saying that I was now connected to the internet wirelessly, but when I launch Safari, I cannot reach the net at all. I then used the AirPort Admin utility on the desktop to try to configure the
I expect anyoen answering this will need more information... but can anyone supply some pointers?
The desktop used OS X.3.9 and the laptop OS X.10.4 though I doubt this makes a difference.

Power down the cable modem.
Wait 30 minutes (go and have a cup of tea or something).
Connect the cable modem to the WAN port of the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS).
Switch on the cable modem.
Switch on the AEBS.
Wait five minutes.
Switch on the PowerBook and see if it now works.
If it does, plug the iMac into the LAN port of he AEBS.
Use the Airport Setup Assistant in the Utilities folder to configure the AEBS.

Cannot get Mail using a shared connection with a PowerBook

This is one of them problems with lots of potential causes, but I have to start asking somewhere.
I am in a temporary work location. There is no wireless access available, but there is an available copper connection.
I plug my trusty old G4 Titanium PowerBook into the ethernet and configure it to share the connection thru its AirPort Card to my iPad (original)
I can get to web sites with iPad Safari, so that says that the connection is working, but the iPad Mail app cannot connect to anything. It sits and spins and then says "The mail server "mail.whatever.org" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info into Mail settings."
I know the Mail info is correct because it will connect and operate with no problem when I am at home, connecting to my own AirPort network.
Any ideas or suggestions ?

The available ethernet is an open DHCP network, so I just set the Network/Ethernet to DHCP and everything there just works.
Next I went to Sharing/Internet Sharing. I set the "Share your connection" control to "Ethernet" and in the "To computers using" control, I selected "AirPort".
In AirPort Options, I gave the network a name, set Channel to Auto, enabled WEP with a 40-bit key and set a password.

Connecting Korg to Powerbook

Hi... I was wondering if anyone could help me with the easiest way to connect a Korg Triton Le to a Powerbook. The keyboard has both Audio line-out and Midi out. Do I need a Midi interface or can I just connect it with some sort of a cable directly to the powerbook's line-in?

If you record Audio, you're recording the actual sounds and you are more limited in how you can edit the notes.
With MIDI you can play any of the instruments GB comes with, purchase more instruments, or download any of the thousands of free SoundFont instruments available on the web. You can also edit any MIDI note, change it's pitch, duration, timing, perform quantizing (forcing every note to be on the beat)
For a keyboardist, I'd think MIDI opens more possibilities, allowing you to play other instruments with your keyboard. FOr those that play things like guitar, real guitars tend to sound more realistic than their MIDI counterparts due to the nuances the player can add. --Hang

Connecting G5 to Powerbook?

hey guys i want to transfer files from my powerbook to my G5. ive heard you can do this via an ethernet cable? ive tried it but cant seem to do it. can anyone give me the steps? cheers.

Make sure that Personal File Sharing is enabled in Sharing preferences on the powerbook.
Then look under Network preferences on your powerbook and get the ip address.
On your g5, switch to Finder and press Command-K "Connect To Server", type in the ip address of your powerbook. It should then promt you for the username and password of the powerbook. If that's successful, you should get a list of available drives to mount.
If all else fails, and you have a firewire cable, shut down your powerbook, connect the firewire cable to your g5, then press the power button on your powerbook and hold down the "t" key until the firewire symbol appears on your display. Your powerbook's hard drive should then appear on your g5 as a firewire drive.

Unable to achieve dial-up connection with G4 Powerbook

I have a G4 PowerBook that I use with a Netgear wi-fi router for Broadband and my server, Virgin. I want to use the PowerBook with just a dial-up connection to another server, BT. I turn off Airport. I have spent a long while with the BT helpline. I do all the settings they suggest. Then I finally press, Connect. I read: "connecting to server". Then it obviously fails and says Disconnecting. Disconnnecting continues ad infinitum and can only be terminated by doing a Restart. What am I doing wrong, please?

How do I connect/network my powerbook to my old power Mac?

I have an "old" Power Mac 500 MHZ G4, that I bought in 2000. It works okay aside from being slow.
I recently bought a new Power Book 1.67 GhZ.
I tried connecting the two computers via firewire, thinking I would be able to see each computer as an icon on the desktop the same way I see my external harddrives when I connect them up.
I'm hoping I would be able to manipulate things in my power mac using my keyboard on my laptop. I guess the main plan is to use the powermac as an external drive.
They don't seem to recognize each other. Is there anything I can do to make my computers get along? Did I pick the right category? Is this actually networking? Something tells me it should be easier than all this. Help appreciated!
Oh yeah! The Power Mac 500mhz, is running OS X 3.7, the Power Book is running OSX 4.8.

If you aren't already doing so, start up one computer with the T key held down, or use these instructions to set up a FireWire network.

I have called Apple and they told me my device is not supported, so me connecting my laptop to my PDA to use as a modem to surf the net isn't an option..any other ideas?..I will call my PDA phone manufacturer later..I have also called Tmobile cell phone support and they also cannot help me cause my phone isnt supported...any other ideas..my friend is a sys. admin and he is trying to write me a code to set them both up.
