Connecting two PCs in a Personal VPN

I'm trying to help my cousin set up his internet connection so that he can easily connect to a friend's computer over the internet, and give his Mac the illusion that they are in the same physical LAN. The only things I can think of to make this work are:
* Create a full-fledged VPN
* Find an app that allows at least iTunes-sharing between two computers over the internet (tunnelling)
I'm not by any means a network expert, but I'm looking for an application that might allow for either of these, anyone have any suggestions? I'm trying to find something as simple as possible that he can use, because he's not incredibly technical.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Connecting two remote LANs through a VPN connection

    1)
    I am trying to interconnect
two LANs as you see below.
    2)
The scenario is to interconnecting two LANs with a
single domain “domain.local” in order to have
two domain controllers backing up each other. We already have a Domain Controller “SRVDC1.domain.local” in our local network “LAN1” and another Server which is going to be as both our
secondary domain controller and VPN Server “SRVDC3.domain.local” in our remote network “LAN2” where is the
Netelligent Network. I am trying to make these two servers (our two LANs)
visible to each other by a MikroTik Cloud Router Switch solution.
    3)
    I am using a
MikroTik Router as a PPTP Client to VPN to our
    Remote Server SRVDC3 (87.75.45.66/29).
    4)
    All the computers in
LAN1, including Server SRVDC1, have a gateway set on “192.168.10.1” which is a
Asus WiFi Router as a core switch which is connected to our Fiber Optic Translator. <o:p></o:p>
    5)
To prevent and minimize any down-time risk during the configuration, I have isolated one computer “table2pc5.domain.local” as sample of the
whole network; by changing its gateway set to 192.168.10.6 (the
    Ether3-Slave-Lacal-interface on the MikroTikRouter).
I am going to replace the “Asus WiFi Router” shown in the map, by the
MikroTik Router later, after making sure that everything would work properly, so, everything is going to be naturalized after.
    6)
    My
solution simply can be explained as below:
    a.
    Providing
another interface in addition to “Netelligent Network” adapter.
    b.
    To
assign a LAN-based IP (in network range 192.168.10.0/24) to the added adapter (Microsoft Virtual Adapter)
    c.
    Configuring
SRVDC3 in Netelligent network “LAN2” as
a Remote Access Server (VPN Server).
    d.
    To provide a
MikroTik Router/Firewall on the Edge of the
    LAN1 as VPN Client.
    e.
    Configure
MikroTik Router VPN PPTP connection to
    SRVDC3 via the Internet.
    f.
    To have
two LANs connected through a permanent VPN connection.
    7)

The node “table7pc2.domain.local” is not able to see<o:p></o:p>
Now, I would ask you to help me to realise this solution by helping me to find the Bad-Routing problem, and letting me know how to fix it.
What NAT / Rout Paths or any configuration do I need to make this two LANs visible and recognizable to each other?
I would introduce you critical nodes which play important roles in this configuration. I have tried to colour-mark them in order to have a better recognition once you take a look at the “Ping Result” table.
The “Ping Result” table would give you an idea which nodes are able to see which others and where does problem hide itself?

I got my own answer :D
    1) I have to right-click on my "Routing and Remote Access" Server.
    2) on IPv4 tab, I should define a static IP Pool. I had it done before; but since that I had chosen a wide range as 192.168.11.0/24, every time the router was taking a different IP address; so I should define a very small pool with two 2
nodes as 192.168.11.1 and 192.168.11.2. In this way, I'll have the local address (router) as 192.168.11.2 and the remote address (my remote server) as 192.168.11.1
    3) After establishment of the PPTP connection successfully, I should add an static route to the "Netelligent Network" adapter. I had it done but in the RRAS routes, so that's why it didn't work. so:
    C:\SRVDC3>_ route -p add 192.168.10.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.11.2
    [Enter]
Now, I would be able to ping all of the computers whose their gateways are set on 192.168.10 (router)
and If I wand to see all of the computers  at the first LAN, I have to put my router at the edge of the network, instead of the ASUS WiFi Router, then change it's IP address to 192.168.10.1 or alternatively set all of the computers gateways on 192.168.10.6.

  • Cannot connect two computers to the same game server HELP!

I have a Linksys WRT54G Router.  I have two computers and I want to be able to use them on the same gaming server.  Unfortunately, the game only have one port, so I can only port forward one of my computers.  How can I configure my router to have two external IP addresses to the server so it won't kick one of my computers out.  Thanks!

    Hi,
I am in a gaming community and many members have a Linksys at home (but I don't know which kind exactly). Many of us try to connect two computers to the same server (many have a family). It seems it is a common problem that no one can connect two computers to the same game server.
    I have a BEFSR41 V3 Firmware version 1.04.8
I use fixed IP address and no connectivity problem on Internet.
I have win XP SP2 on both computer.
I am using a DSL modem
I can connect the two computers to two different game servers at same time, but not the same server. Default port for this game is the same for all servers I use. I tried with both port forwarding enabled (in that case one PCs can connect the other not) or not (in the second case, whenever the second PC connects, the first one lose his connection to the server, no mater the order I try to connect my PCs).
Now the weird thing is that one member in my community just decided to throw away his Linksys router and he bought another brand (which I won't name to remains politically correct). Now, without changing anything in his PCs or his connection type, he can now play with two PC on the same server.
I am seriously thinking doing the same move. Since more and more game are now using Internet (and servers that controls piracy, $$) and family want to play together, not being able to connect two PCs on the same game server makes Linksys in bad situation from marketing point of view.
For example, in my gaming communtity, we now all know that Linksys can't handle two PC on same server, but other brand can...
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Two PCs connected via TC can't seem to communicate w/ each other

I have two PCs running XP pro connected to a TC. The TC is also connected to a cable modem. Each PC has successfully obtained an IP address (10.0.1.2, 10.0.1.3). Each can retrieve web pages from the internet. However, they don't seem to be able to communicate with each other. I have re-run my network setup wizard on both PCs and created a home workgroup. When I try use My Network Places ... Home, I only see the local PC. If I ping the other address, the ping times out. I can ping the TC (10.0.1.1) however.
Any ideas as to why the two computers would not be able to communicate w/ each other but can communicate w/ the internet?

I just spoke with Apple Care. The support rep did some research and believes the problem is with settings on my computers. This network was working with a different router (and different private network addresses) before I swapped it out for the Time Capsule.
Anyone have any ideas what might be blocking network replies (or incoming packets) on the various XP computers?

  • Solution Needed: Using VPN as a Jump off for multiple users to connect outbound to multiple 3rd party VPN

I work for a healthcare consulting company, we have 50+ consultants that work remotely from their home.  We currently are cloud managed and for various reasons are looking for a solution to streamline our connection to our Clinics' personal VPNs.  Our Clinics' VPNs vary greatly in regards to vendor and type of connection.
    What we want to do:
Create a Jumpoff where all our consultants (simultaneously as well) can remote VPN into. From there be able to jump out to any of our Clinics' VPNs.
We need this because we have some consultants with foreign IPs and we also want to connect from Google Chromebooks which don't play nice with every type of our Clinics' VPNs.  So the our Jump Off Box will have all the needed connections for any type of VPNs our Clinics use.
This solution should connect to our Clinics' side from their default VPN settings - Just a regular VPN connection from us to them.
From what I have been told is that this was attempted in the past:
Consultants VPN'd to our cloud server - RDPd to a machine and then VPNd out to our clinics. However this locked down the VPN and only one consultant could jump out.
What Cisco Product would allow us to do so?
How would this be set up?
Do we set up the Router to handle outbound connections?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to transfer files(pdfs/music.etc)between two pcs

how to transfer files(pdfs/music.etc)between two pcs?

Yes, you pretty much just drag and drop or copy and paste depending on which way you like better. It is pretty much like connecting an external hard drive. Just find the files you want and copy them over to your other computer.
This is one of my favorite features from Macs. It's very simple to do and because it's Firewire even large files transfer over very quickly.

  • What happen when we connect Two PC with IP from Same subnets

Scenario 2nd : What happen when we connect Two PC with IP from Same subnets. PC1 -192.168.10.1/24 PC2 - 192.168.10.2 on a two different L2 Switch on different vlans which are connected via a LAN cable.
    All ports are access ports
Interview Question : No More Info.
    Pc1<SwA>------<SwB>PC2
Q.1 Will they communicate If yes what will be packet/frame flow.
Q.2 If not where will be the packet/frame drop. ? Why.
I need step by step if possible plz how the packet moves , vlan taggings n all internal works that happens behind .. plz
    thnx in advnce ....

    Hi Abhishesk,
The PCs should communicate each othet.
Since there is no trunk port involved, there is not tagging involved.
Since both the PCs are into the same subnet. PC1 will not need default gateway for the communication with PC2. So PC1 will start with sending ARP request for PC2 MAC address.
Since all the ports in SW1 are in same VLAN, the ARP should reach all ports including the switchport where SW2 is connected to.
Sw2 has got a complete different access port on ALL the switchports. Sw2 will receive the ARP from Sw1. Remember that there is no tagging for the frame. Hence Sw2 will again send the ARP packet to all the ports which belong to same VLAN wherein the packet is received. ie, Sw2 will send the ARP packet to all the ports in Sw2. PC2 will also get the the ARP.
The ARP reply will make it way back using the same logic.
Now both the PCs can start the actual packet exchange.

  • What causes the message on startup- Firefox can not find the server. Could the server block more than two pcs on line at any one time ??

I have two pcs linked to my Telkom server. I tried to add a third to test it. It sees the server and states excellent connection. But I am unable to get Firefox to open. Every attempt ends with "Firefox cant see the server". I suspect its my server which will only allow max 2 pc at any one time altho I unplugged the one (its on wire to the router) and tried. Still got the same message. Same with Opera when tried.

  • Connecting two LANs

    Please,
I plan on connecting two LANs together via. the internet (public resource). The LANs are across town.
The computers on each LAN will be able to access other(some) computers on the other LAN (and vice-versa), they will still be able to connect to the internet. Basically, they will be able to share resources (files, application etc.)
Undergone some research regarding this, was able to find out that having a VPN connection will be a good way to go. But I have no full knowledge on what hardware I will need. How to start exactly.
If VPN is actually a good way to go, please let me know (maybe some other alternatives).
If I can get a good picture of what to do, will be very happy.
Please, can someone lead me in a good direction. Thank you.

    Hi
First of all lets focus on the end points connectivity part. What is the internet terminating onto?Say if its a leased line or a Ethernet or ADSL, then you can directly terminate it onto a cisco router. If its a ethernet connectivity, then I would recommend PIX or ASA.
Secondary we come to the tunnels,i.e, the link between both the offices which should be encrypted. This tunnel will be your pipe.Though a PIX/ASA by default support VPN tunnels and encryptions, you need to have that K9 IOS into the router.
Pls eleborate on the connectivity medium, then it will be easier to suggest you something.
Pls read the text at following link...it will give you a better picture...

  • Help, Issues Connecting two Wireless Routers

Ahead of time I would like to thank everyone for their responses and help. I tried to be as clear as possible. I believe I got all the details right. Some things are repetitive and might be a little confusing,  but please ask questions for any clarification. Thanks  for the help.
    Current Routers:
    1. Linksys WRT600N ---- Used as primary router. Connected to the 4 ports are 3 PCs and a wireless router. All three PC have static IPs I reservered, also have a static IP reserved for the WGT624 wireless router. DMZ is also enabled and destination is the IP reserved for WGT624.
    2. Netgear WGT624 ----  WGT624 is connected to WRT600N through  the WAN port on the WGT624 to port number X on the WRT600N . I was using Netgear WGT624 as an access point for a Xbox360 , a couple of macs and  ubuntu netbook.  This router recently died needs to be replaced.
    3. Linksys E3000 ---- Recently purchased to replace the Netgear WGT624 that has died. I want to use this as my new access point. Having trouble setting up the settings for this router. I want the same setup as before.
    Detailed Problem
I currently have the WRT600N located in the basement connected to a cable modem through the WAN port. Connected to the 4 ports on the back of WRT600N are 3 PCs and a Wireless router. Most of the settings on the WRT600N I left alone. The only thing I changed was reserving 4 IPs for the 3 PCs and the WGT624 wireless router. I also enabled the DMZ for the destination IP of the WGT624.  I also opened a couple of ports.
The Netgear WGT624 that died was located on the upper level third floor. I was using it primarily as an access point. It was connected through the WAN port  of the WGT624 to port X on the WRT600N which is located in the basement. Settings on this are a little different. On the WGT624 I disabled the firewall. I left both the Auto DHCP enabled and the DHCP server. WPA was enabled on the WGT624. With these settings on the WGT624 I was able to connect to a xbox 360 and a few macs wirelessly to the internet with no issues .  I also noticed that the the internet IP displayed on the status tab on the WGT624 was the IP I had reserved on the WRT600N.
Recently the WGT624 died after  years of usage. So I purchased a Linkys E3000. I want to have a similar setup as before with the WGT624. However I have been running into issues. Wirelessly I cannot get access to the internet through the E3000. The E3000 is connected to the WRT600N in the same was as the WGT624. The WAN port of the E3000 is connected to the port number X of WRT600N.  On the status tab of the E3000 I seem to be getting a strange Internet IP address. 127.0.0.1. This I think is a loopback address, I am not sure? Same with the subnet mask of 255.0.0.0
So the problem is I want the keep the same setup as before if I can. I don't want to the any computers who connect to the access point to have access to any computers that are connected to the 600N.
I read on another thread I could connect two wireless routers together by connecting port X on the 600N to port X on the E3000.   Then changing the internal IP of the second router from 192.168.1.1 to 198.168.1.2 and then disabling the DHCP server.
I really want to keep the same set up as before if posslble. More importantly I want to know why my setup prior, the WRT600N  to the WGT624 worked with no problems. Why could I use the WGT624 as an access point and not the E3000? Should I switch the the two routers use the 600N as the access point and E3000 as my main router?
    Thanks again.

    1. You have chained two routers. The WRT600N uses LAN IP address 192.168.1.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The Netgear is connected with the WAN port to the WRT (thus uses an 192.168.1.* address on the WAN port) and uses 192.168.0.1 by default on the LAN side. Your new E3000, however, uses the Linksys default 192.168.1.1 on the LAN side. If you connect the E3000 to the WRT600 without making any changes it won't work. A router cannot work if WAN and LAN side both use 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0. That's impossible.
    2. Thus, the quick and easy setup to get the same as before would be to change the LAN IP address of the E3000 from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1. After that change you can connect the internet port of the E3000 to the WRT and everything works like before.
    3. However, in particular because you need port forwarding and you do port forwarding through two routers I would recommend not to run two routers chained. I can't see why it is necessary for you to run two routers and two separated networks. The basic setup and an explaination why a different setup may be better is here. I think in your case it would make things much simpler and you have full connectivity between all your computers. You can set up a roaming wireless network, too. The only problem is that you will "loose" one port on the E3000 because you cannot use the internet port.

  • Time Synchronization two PCs having LabVIEW's DSC

I have two PCs which have LabVIEW's DSC Run-Time System installed on them. They are connected on the LAN. The approximate distance between the two PCs is about 6 KM, i.e., it passes through many repeaters and network switches. Both fiber optic and normal network cable is used. The LAN speed is 10Mbps.
LVDSC Runtime System has an option of time synchronizing two or more PCs which are registered.
What is the accuracy of time synchronization ?
Does the accuracy fall if the distance between the PCs on the LAN increases, i.e., the LAN speed could be slow at times due to net congestion ?
Does the time synchronization take place to the accuracy of "seconds" or "milli seconds" ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The time synchronization service that ships with LabVIEW DSC is accurate to +-10 milliseconds in ideal conditions (two PCs on a LAN located on the same floor of the same building). The time synchronization service will attempt to compensate for any latency between the servers, but some accuracy will be lost. Accuracy should never be worse than +-1 second, and should be much better than that except in very high-latency situations.

Yes, the Lightroom License agreement is for one user / owner and allows it to be installed on two computers with the provisio that one one is in use at any point in time. It is cross platform PC &/or Mac. You can install/ uninstall as many times you require provided there are only two in existance.

  • Connecting Two ASAs together via local interface

    Hi
I have two cisco ASA routers & wish to connect them together so that traffic between is permitted with out going outside interface.
Two asa are located at in ONE office and two have separate internet connection (ISP) configured.
So here is what I did so far.
configure one of the interface on each ASA with some IP adddress.

    ASA 2 --------- interface 0/5  10.2.2.2  (ASA 5055)

but when I add route on ASA 1 I get the following error.
    route add interface0/6 10.2.2.2/24  10.1.1.1

Sorry if I was not clear
I have two separate ISPs connecting two two separate ASAs.. Two asa are now connecting separate LANs.

  • Connecting two seperate office networks together

Hi folks, really sorry for asking stupid questions but relatively new to the complexities of networks.
We have two offices. Each have their own networks running through wired and wireless routers all back to a single ADSL link. So all can access, share etc. This is simple to set up as each Mac just see's the other and hey presto it works. Cant get my head around manually configuring things though which I presume is the answer to this post.
I need an idiots guide as to how we now get each location to see the other, thus combing these two networks so that office A can now talk to B . I presume this is simple, does anyone have any pointers for us.
Many thanks for the help I am sure I will get.
    Gra

Not daft at all. Networks are not easy to configure sometimes, and from reading your message, I may have erred in my understanding of your original post. I guessed they were in the same office complex and separated by a small distance. It should not be necessary to assign an IP number as DHCP works in most situations.
If you have two ADSL routers, this is not going to work. I presumed the words, "single ASDSL link" meant these were sharing the same ADSL. but that appears now not to be the case.
What you seem to say is:
    ADSL 1 --> Network 1
    ADSL 2 --> Network 2
Each ADSL router will be allocated an external IP address by the service provider (ISP) and the router will allocate a network address which is unrelated to the external IP address.
If you want to link these, you would need some additional software or another way to connect, depending what the purpose is: VPN, Back to My Mac.
    More data please?
