BPEL instances in Running state - SOA version 11.1.1.4

Hi ALL,
I am Working with the Orace SOA 11.1.1.4 version and facing the same issue
Description :
I have developed a synchronous BPEL / Composite that listens over a JMS Queue configured in weblogic (MessageType is Text /String - XML Stirng). Based on the Operation Type in the Message the BPEL forwards the message to other Composites .
If the server is restarted or the composite is redeployed , the mesages get processed fine ,but if there are more no of messages in the queue , the instances hang in running state , this happens frequenlty.
I tried modifying the DispatchThreds and invoke Thread which make thing even worse :-(
Help Needed Got badly stuck up :-(
-Lakshmi

Team,
Any idea? I have "Validation" enabled for the composite and my testsuites are not working. When I test using unit tests, I am only seeing "Running" status of the processes and these are not getting completed.
Your help is appreciated.

  • Database Adapter Polling, Instances in Running State

    Hello All,
I have a composite in which the database adapter is a service (polling a table in SQL Server). Sometimes, when instances gets created, like 2 instances are being in a running state and not being completed at all. we terminated the instances last 2 times, and this scenario is being repeated again. If i click the instance which is running, i can only see the service which says it is completed, no BPEL component is being seen, can anyone faced this issue before ? why this is happening ?
    Please help....
    Naresh

Could you provide more insight on how you wired the adapter and BPEL process inside the composite? What does the BPEL look like? You could add a BPEL component that persists some stuff just for test purposes. That could give you more feedback from the console.

  • Where is the BPEL Instance payload stored in soa database?

    Hi all,
Given an instance id, I need to get the payload used to invoke the BPEL.
I searched in the soa database. Also I went through the bpel client apis. But I couldn't find any. Is there any table in the BPEL dehydration store that can give me the entire bpel instance input payload given the instance_id?

What version of SOA Suite are you using, SOA Suite 10g Release 3 is not enough information. Make sure that it is the same as your JDev version if it isn't then either downgrade the JDev or upgrade the SOA Suite.
If you are still on SOA 10.1.3.1 then I would upgrade as there are many bugs in this release.
These kind of strange errors are generally caused by incompatibility between design time (JDev) and run time (SOA Suite)

  • BPEL Composite going in running state

I have a mediator that reads from AQ and routes it to the BPEL processes based on condition. When there are 15 or 20 instance read from AQ, some of the BPEL processes go into a running state. Once the process goes into a running state, the any instances created for that bpel process goes into running state. There are no errors in the soa-diagnostics log or soa log. We are running WLS server in a single node environment, database installed in a single solaris container and the wls installed in another container. There are no faults generated too. If I redeploy the process, the BPEL process starts working and goes to the same state after some time ( inconsistent). Even if I restart the soa server, the process starts working but goes to running status when load is applied.
Any help to diagnose the issue will be greatly appreciated.

Just to be sure, you say the problem happened only if you have 10-15 instances?
Yes.. Even if it less that 5 but if there are concurrent calls, the problem persistIn each process you have 1 call for each service (EBS,WS,BpelProcess)?
One BPEL process calls an EBS package( Dbaadapter), Web services each of them are BPEL process
1st invoke web service call ( which is BPEL process) 2nd invoke is a dbadapter 3rd invoke is service call ( BPEL process)Did you change any of the default parameters on the SOA server, or DB connection?
    >>
You might consider a problem with the EBS - maybe you are calling an API and there is a db lock...?
All the queries are only selects. No updates and these apis are tuned.Enter the current running instance - see if the last service is the same for all running instances.

  • Instances stuck in running state--please help

    Hi,
We have a composite with all synchronous processes with synchronous calls.
We have a lot of running instances in the EM console and when we check the audit trail and the flow of many instances, the flow is completed successfully but the instances are still present in the running state. Many of the instances are in between the flow and are not completing at all. They are stuck at that point and never complete.
This we assume was due to some abnormal activity like the database being full or shutting down of composite when bpel instances were in running state.
Can anyone tell me why such kind of thing had happened and how to handle these cases.
    Thank you.

    R,
I am assuming that you are also working with SOA Suite 11g.
I too had the same issue and was tuning the Bpel Engine but i was not able to get rid of it .
When i submitted a SR they responded that it was bug in 11.1.3 and they are working on it.
Hoping that we would get a patch soon.
    Thanks,
    Tirumala Dixit.

  • Long Running Bpel Instance.

    Hi All,
One of My bpel process spawns 100 child bpel process. out of which 60 are in recover(invokes), and 40 bpel processes are in running state.
These 40 bpel instances are still in open.running state, even though I restarted the server.
Can any one provide the reason for this?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Ranjan,
Our BPEL process was not showing any activity after DB adapter invocation and state was showing as open.running.
So we went to "recover invoke" tab under "adminisrtation" tab and selected activity, so my process was recovered.
    Thanks for responding.

  • Instance going in Running state while invoking DB adapter

    HI,
I am stuck in a very tricky scenario.
I have to select data from two tables:- Header and Line table.
I am using a VIEW to fetch data from both the tables by passing Invoice id.
Now when ever i am having single line data in Both the tables Header n Line for a single Invoice id, the instance is running successfully.
But when there is multiple data in Line table for the Invoice id, the instance is going in running state and after every 60 seconds, it is creating a new instance which will also be in running state, thus this will continue and server will go in incompatible state.
I need to resolve this issue.
    Please help.

    Hi,
What operation did you use to get the data from the view?
Did you use the custom sql or Select operation?

  • What is the highest Java version running with SOA Suite v10.1.3.3 ?

What is the highest Java version running with SOA Suite v10.1.3.3 ?
From my point of view at least v1.4.1
    Maybe v1.5
    but not v1.6
    Is this true?

    I guess only 1.5.
1.6 is officially not supported and 1.4 does break stuff, I tried running it with it, and didn't even come up.

  • Python script to automate the manual recovery of BPEL instances in SOA 11g

I have a requirement for automating the manual recovery of BPEL instances pending for recovery at a particular time. It will be called inside a cron job.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ravi Prakash

    Hi,
When I try to recover the instance that is waiting for manual recovery, I didn't see anything happening.
Also the the fault policy is active and working fine during the retry intervals. That means If I disable one of the webservices and enable them during the retry it is success after some failure retries.
Any ides why the recovery not working in SOA 10.1.3.3

  • Sequential Instantiation of BPEL instances for a BPEL process

    Hi,
We are using Oracle SOA 10.1.3.4 & AIA2.5. We have a situation where the instances of a particular bpel process have to be executed in sequence. Also, the new instance should NOT be instantiated unless the previous instance is completed.
For example.. Lets say a SyncBPELReqABCS is invoking SyncBPELProvABCS via ESB. SyncBPELReqABCS is looping and spawning multiple instances of SyncBPELProvABCS in a certain sequential order in Asynchronous Fire-and-Forget model. Lets say bpel-instance#1, bpel-instance#2 and bpel-instance#3 are instances of SyncBPELProvABCS process. Even though SyncBPELReqABCS invokes (spawns) SyncBPELProvABCS in a fire and forget model, the bpel-instance#2 should not begin unless bpel-instance#1 is completed and bpel-instance#3 shuld not begin unless bpel-instance#2 is completed. This is because there is a dependancy between instacnes of SyncBPELProvABCS process.
Can this be achieved in Oracle SOA?? Can we restrict the instacnes of SyncBPELProvABCS to be created in this manner?
This is similar to "incompatability" of concurrent programs in ORACLE EBusiness Suite where one concurrent program waits till another concurrent program completes.
Please let me know if I am not clear. Appreciate an immediate help!
    Thanks,

    Hello,
Now that I look back at this tread, I can see that the questions I was asking and those of the original poster were somewhat different.
But they both fall under the heading of "Sequential Instantiation of BPEL instances for a BPEL process", and so I thought I would post some findings we've come across regarding that topic here.
There were a couple steps that helped us achieve the behavior we were looking for, and the were...
    1) Change the BPEL oneWayDeliveryPolicy from "async.persist" to "sync"
This can be done in a couple locations. The first is within the EM application that comes bundled with SOA 11g, and the place to go is:EM > [farm name] > SOA > soa-infra (right click) > SOA Administration > BPEL Properties > More BPEL Configuration Properties > OneWayDeliveryPolicyOnce that value has been changed to "sync" (without the quotes), you'll need to stop and start the managed servers that run your SOA instance(s).
As you might expect, making a change at the "server level" like this impacts the default behavior of all composites deployed within your SOA instance. The second place to make this change - within the deployment descriptors for your BPEL process - impacts only the BPEL process that is being modified. To make the change at this level, you would edit your project's composite.xml file and, for each BPEL component, specify:  <component name="BPELProcess1" version="2.0">
        <implementation.bpel src="BPELProcess1.bpel"/>
        <property name="bpel.config.oneWayDeliveryPolicy">sync</property>
        <property name="bpel.config.transaction">required</property>
</component>What does this change do? Well, I don't claim to have a complete understanding, but in theory it prevents a thread handoff from taking place between the service that is initiates your BPEL process (like a receive) and the actual BPEL engine thread that processes the request.
In our case, where calls between (and within) composites were all of the synchronous "fire and forget" variety, this change also caused the entire processing of a message (across three different composites) to happen in a single thread (each message handoff was one-way, and with the oneWayDeliveryPolicy set to "sync", each was handled in a synchronous manner).
This also seemed to have the effect of serializing our message processing. For example, in a test case where a BPEL process reads from a JMS queue and 250 messages are enqueued, with the oneWayDeliveryPolicy set to "async.persist", I'd typically go in to EM and, on each refresh, find 5-8 instances of the composite that processes those messages to be in a "Running" state. Once the change to "sync" was made, I'd only see at most only 2 (where one had actually already finished; the audit system just hadn't yet caught up to that fact yet).
This also means that, with a "sync" delivery policy, messages (at least in our environment) are processed more slowly, but that was ok with us as we were more concerned with the behavior than the speed.
For details on this and other BPEL deployment descriptor properties, see:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/integration.1111/e10224/bp_app_deploydesc.htm
Also, it's important to note that making the above change will alter the boundaries of your transactions as well as how faults are propagated. For more details, see:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/integration.1111/e10224/soa_transactions.htm
    2) Front BPEL process with a Mediator object and enable message resequencing
While we're using the above change as a standard practice in our environment, this second change has only been nominally tested - but it could be of interest and so I'll mention it here.
Once you've updated your composite to include a mediator object in front of your BPEL process (if there isn't one there already), edit the .mplan for your mediator and change the "Resequence Level" from the default value of "operations" to "component". Then change the "Resequence Mode" from "off" to "FIFO" and specify an X-Path expression by which the mediator will be able to group your messages. This will help ensure that the messages are being processed in the order you expect.
More information about resequencing within the mediator component can be found:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/integration.1111/e10224/med_resequencer.htm
Hopefully the above information is useful - if not for the original poster, then for someone who comes along later with similar questions.
    - Nathan

  • Internal Server Error while deploying a project to a remote BPEL instance.

Some background. We were trying to use the adapters going out through iWay to hit a Siebel instance. Originally, we were using a BPEL VM for development, and trying to hit adapters on the iWay box. We found out that we needed to have BPEL and adapters installed in the OC4J container; so we rebuilt our iWay box.
So, now the iWay box has Oracle DB, Oracle App Server, BPEL, and adapters in the same OC4J container.
When you do an appserver install of BPEL, it doesn't install JDev; so we are doing development on our BPEL VM; or on a standalone version on the laptop (both give the same error.)
I can deploy the project locally to my laptop or the locally to the SOA(BPEL) VM, but when I try to deploy from either JDev to the BPEL server on iWay, we get:
    Beginning Deployment Process...

Deploying to http://148.87.129.102:80 domain: default. Please wait....
    [1:55:15 PM] Deployment failed.
Description of problem: Server error.Internal Server Error
Suggested solution: Please report this error to the adminsitrator.
I can hit the BPEL console on the http://148.87.129.102:80/BPELConsole link, so I know that's correct... (as well as the "Test Connection" works fine to that box.)
    Anyone seen this before? Ideas?

    Got it..
    I was using Fuego.Sql.DynamicSQL.close(Iterator)
For a an executeUpdate query which returns an int.
But I used it in a method and did not use that method inside my process or screenflow.
But it did not give me any error/exception while compiling it in Studio.
It gave me an exception while publishing in Enterprise.
    This is strange.
It should have given me an error/exception while compiling itself rather than while publishing in Enterprise.

  • Instances in OFFLINE State

    Hi,
I have a 11.1.0.7 RAC database running on a RHEL 64 bit platform. The CRS version being 11.2.0.2
I restarted my database using the command srvctl start database -d MYCSMR and also its services using the command srvctl start service -s MYCSMR
    MYCSMR1 % srvctl status service -d MYCSMR
    Service CONSUM is running on instance(s) MYCSMR1, MYCSMR2, MYCSMR3
    Service CONSUM_SEARCH is running on instance(s) MYCSMR1, MYCSMR2, MYCSMR3
But I get few alerts in my EM that, ora.MYCSMR.CONSUM_SEARCH.MYCSMR2.srv has instances in OFFLINE State , ora.MYCSMR.CONSUM_SEARCH.cs has instances in OFFLINE State and ora.MYCSMR.CONSUM_SEARCH.MYCSMR1.srv has instances in OFFLINE State
Could you please help me what needs to be checked and how to fix those alerts?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
If srvctl is showing the correct status and Grid Control is reporting false, its issue with Grid Control. There are many bugs in Grid Control around RAC monitoring.
I would say re-registering resources in Grid control would be a workaround.
    Thanks
    krishan
