Connection drops with arch64 and atheros wireless

Hi, I've just installed arch64 on my desktop. I have a dlink dwa-556 wireless adapter, with atheros chipset. The card is seen correctly and has been configured. I started a kdemod install with pacman, went on for about an hour, and then it hung, the wireless connection dropped... I tried to start it up again, but only a reboot could help... now I started pacman again and after some minutes bang! connection dropped again...
this is what iwconfig says

I think I may be experiencing something similar. I'm also running Arch64 and have the exact same adapter (DWA-556) and every once in a while my wireless connection drops. It only happens once every few days or so, but whenever it happens on my system it seems to cause anything Xorg-related (mouse, keyboard, video) to respond slowly. If I move the mouse around it doesn't move smoothly - it kind of jerks and jumps around.
Whenever the connection drops like this, I see the something like the following in /var/log/messages.log:
Feb 16 17:07:26 blacktower dhcpcd[19326]: ath0: carrier lost
The first couple of times this happened to me, I had to reboot to get the connection going again. I did find another way to get the connection working, though. What I did was unload the modules related to the wireless adapter, reload them, and then reconnect to the network. I wrote a quick shell script to do this for me, which looks like this:

sudo rmmod ath_pci ath_rate_sample ath_hal
sudo modprobe ath_pci
sudo modprobe ath_hal
sudo netcfg -d home
sudo netcfg home
I'm using the madwifi driver right now and as you can see, I use netcfg to connect to my wireless network here. I've tried the ath5k driver but I seem to have the same issue with that. I haven't really found a solution to this yet, but the workaround of removing the modules, reloading them, and then reconnecting has worked well enough so far. If I dig up anything else helpful on this, I'll be glad to post it here.

Help needed to Replace existing routers due to connection drop with Extreme

I currently have an old linksys router connected to my cable modem in the basement. I then have a second router connected via ethernet to the first router located upstairs since most of my computers are upstairs. I am having alot of connection drops with most of the computers. ONe of the computers hardly even connects to the network. Almost all of my computers are macbook pros/macbooks/imac except for 1 or 2 pcs. I would like to start fresh with the airport extreme/express. Should I set it up similar in that I have an airport extreme base station connected downstairs to the modem and then have a second extreme/express upstairs via the ethernet connection. I do have a printer upstairs as well that most of the computers use that is connected wirelessly.
Any other tips?

Express has only one ethernet port which acts either as WAN input if plugged into a modem or as LAN output, if plugged into an end device (PC, Printer), so it cannot be used for input and output at the same time. I'd suggest you do this,
1/
- If modem must stay in the basement and cannot be moved upstairs
- Have modem in basement
- Run an ethernet cable from the modem to your Extreme's WAN port upstairs
- Have Express in the basement and connect it wirelessly
let it join your Extreme's network over wifi, if there is enough signal in the basement
- If there is no signal in the basement from upstairs' Extreme and Express finds
nothing or signal is unreliable, then you need to run an ethernet cable
from Extreme's LAN port (it has 3 in the back) and run it downstairs
and plug into your Express.
2/
- move the modem upstairs and keep the setup same as in 1/
- no difference, you still have to run the coax cable from basement,
so you drill no matter what

- keep modem downstairs
- keep extreme downstairs connected to modem
- keep express upstairs and join it wirelessly to your Extreme's network
- plus side is - there would be no cables running upstairs
- downsides of this setup are:

Extreme's signal is stronger than Express's - I'd put it into a place where
my family spends most of the time
It all depends on your house setup, whether you have desktops or laptops only, ...
As a preference, I like to keep Extreme close to my main computer as I connect to it via ethernet rather than wifi (much better speed). My wifi is only for laptops and iPods.
Also, seing the Extreme's status light tells me what is going on without running to a basement when internet starts acting up.
Rule of thumb - if you can drill, then drill and take advantage of the gigabit speed as opposed to wifi's 100megabit or whatever your signal lets you get up to. This is very noticeable when streaming movies via Netflix, AirPlay etc...
If drilling is too much hassle, you live in an apartment unit or it's a transitory place for you, just use Wifi. If you are planning on living there for a while, cables will make you happier than wifi - no interference to worry about and better speed

My apple TV is also connected to my Extreme via cable - speed is incredible. Wifi used to choke up every now and then.

Firstly, try a factory reset. This can often iron out problems like this.
Also, what generation is your TC? What version of AirPort Utility are you using?

Internet connection drops with new HH4....

I recently signed up to a new deal with BT and had to pay for my HH4. I have it all connected up the exact same way as my HH3. I am receiving a faster connection now but am now getting VERY frequent internet connection drops....
My PC is wired to the HH so NOT a wireless issue. I have checked ALL my microfilters and seem to be working. Nothing within my home has changed apart from the homehub. I used to be connectiong at around 6.5Mb, I am now connecting between 7.5 and 8Mb....
9 times out of 10 the connection drops when I receive an incoming call.... but not always. I can make outgoing calls with ZERO issues....

BT engineer was out to fix the line in February of this year. A new main box was fitted (which I was billed for) and he also fitted an iplate to the box to allow the hub to be connected without the need for a filter since they are built in.......
an Iplate will not do away with any filters and they will be required on all sockets - unless you mean a filtered faceplate not iplate - 2 sockets 1 adls and 1 phone

WRT400N Can no longer connect to with cat 5 or wireless.

Been having random connection drops for the past few weeks where I would see the network connections to the router just drop either on a wireless connection or a wired cat 5 connection. As of tonight I cant connect to the router at all. If I disconnect and reconnect the power after 30 seconds it will come up for a short time but then I will lose it again. I can't get help from linksys as my router is out of warrenty. I'v searched around for similiar problems people have been having, but it seems like mostly involve just the internet connection. I still have the same firmware for the routers as the day I purchased it and the router sits on my desk in a ventilated area not overheating. I'm not sure what steps I can do to further diagnose the problem, I have even tried resetting to factory defaults. Is there any steps anyone here could recommend that I try to diagnose the problem or see if my router is just dead. Thanks in advance.

If that is the case then you can try the following steps:
# Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page.
# On that same setup page reduce the MTU value to 1400 from Auto
# Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
Secondly avoid using any other wireless devices like cordless phones, microwave oven etc nearer to the router. Then check the wireless connectivity.

I create a web template with chart and query.
I have problem with drag and drop when I change the visualization of
the template.
If I create a template with graph open I can add free characteristics
only if the graph is open. If I want close it, I can only change/substitute the
free characteristics, but not add one.
this behavior is opposite if I create the template with graph close: I
can add free characteristic if the graph is closed, when I open it I
can only change/substitute the characteristics.
Is this the correct behavior

Connections drops with port forwarding

I have a WRT54G v.5 and I recently just set up port forwarding. The problem is that my internet connection drops between every 10 minutes to once an hour. Once I disable port forwarding, the connection works perfectly. Any ideas?

Make sure your router has the latest firmware installed.

Adobe connect - bug with powerpoint and the apostrophe

Hi folks,
when i'm using Adobe Connect for web presentations and upload
a Powerpoint file, there seems to be a bug where adobe connect
displays extra spacing after an apostrophe is used. For example
when my .ppt has "country's" but when it's loaded into adobe
connect and shared, it displays, "country' s"
i'm using XP and Powerpoint 2003.

From what I remember, TinyMCE does not work with ADDT form validation. So you can integrate TinyMCE, but you will have this issue if you make the text area a required field with ADDT's form validation.
For a workaround, you can use a custom trigger to check that something was entered into the text area and throw an error in the trigger if nothing has been entered. This won't do the client side check, but it will do a server side check.

Cannot connect N79 with new and old Nokia suites r...

I have an N79 which I can successfully connect with Nokia Suite 3.3.x running on Windows XP and sync my data.
However, I have failed to connect the same phone (and also a N86) with the Nokia suite running on Windows 7. The connection with Windows seems fine (and I can browse the contents of the phone from Explorer). However Nokia Suite 3.3.x does not detect the device, although looking at the Add Phone window it is clearly trying to do something when I physically connect the phone - sometimes a message "Wait while we configure the phone etc."
I have tried removing all Nokia software, removing registry entries, reloading. But to no effect. I have tried repairing the various Mokia software elements through Control Panel.
I tried an older version of the suite (OVI 3.0.0.286). Again without success, except that it does see the phone because it lists it on the Add Phone screen. However, when I select it I get a pop-up advising me that the phone is not in PC Suite mode - but it is!!! This does not happen every time but only after I delete the phone's entry from Devices. If I do not do that, the suite does not list the phone. The same happens on Vista.
The USB cable is from Nokia (CA 101). So same phone, same cable, same Nokia suite - works on XP but not on Win 7 or Vista.
Any ideas would be most welcome.

Hi, tinwhistle. Thanks for sharing with us your concern. Do you have the latest version of the Nokia Suite? Can you also make sure that you have an admin access on your Windows 7 computer, and your firewalls & antivirus programs are disabled. It would also help if your Windows 7 drivers are up-to-date. Keep us posted.

Conflict with WRT160N and Windows Wireless Network Connection

I have a WRT160N router connected to a Verizon FIOS cable modem with five computers (all Windows based) wirelessly connected to the N router. Four of the computers auto detect the N router connection when the computer starts up using Windows Wireless Network Connection and operate well. One of the computers, which is the only one running Easylink for router configuration, will not connect through the Wireless Network Connection. I have to use Easylink to manually connect. The WNC gives a msg that Windows cannot configure this wireless connection and to configure the wireless connection using Wireless Zero Configuration service. When I configure WZC correctly the WNC sees all available networks and allows me to select the Advanced Wireless checkbox to allow Windows to connect to the wireless network. However, when I reboot the computer none of the configuration parameters are saved and I am back to manually connecting using Easylink and going through the entire process again. Any suggestions? Uninstall the EasyLink and connect manually. I think EasyLink 3.0 or later is coming soon ..

Wi-Fi connection dropping with radius settings

Hello,
we have running 10.7.3 macpros and macair under radius wi-fi settings, in windows servers 2k8 environment, with Meru Controllers and Access Points; clients are binded to the AD via Directory Utility.
At the moment, our users are logging in via configuration profile setup as WP2 Enterprise and MCHAP2 pre-authentication, that i manually configured with iPhone Configuration Utility (plus the little tweak to make it appear at login).
I'm having major issues with users dropping out from wireless, constantly, several times during the whole day.
I know that this is a common issue and people discussed about this already in other posts, but i just want to readdress this matter to everybody because i believe that is unacceptable that with 10.7.3 alredy out, apple hasn't found a solution with this WIDE SPREAD problem that is affecting the whole community.
Apparenlty the Signal POWER is a significant index of reliability and potential signal continuity.
We have PoE switches that are connected to our Access Points, that are causing this issue to be recurrent; from another PoE+ switch it seems that the signal is more reliable and users have complained less aabout this.
PLEASE INVESTIGATE.
It's a bad image for Apple products, in comparison to Windows/PC.....that somehow, always work in this way.

Is it only at home, or other places as well? If you've only connected to wireless at home, try somewhere else to see if you have the same problems. If you don't, then it's likely something in your router setup. If you do, you might want to give Apple a call.

Problem with printer and laptop wireless connectio...

Hi In the last 2 months we have found that the only way we can get the wireless printer and the laptop to connect to the wireless hub is by switching off the hub and restarting it. The printer will then print and the laptop connect to the internet but once either is switched off again the only way we can get the hub to 'talk' to them is by switching off the hub. I have been in touch with BT advisors this morning but not really got anywhere. The chap was going to change the BT frequency but we have a Hub 3 so I don't think this is relevant. Apparently we have got a good broadband speed. I am not technical in any way but logic dictates it must be a hub problem. Has anyone had similar problems - or any ideas. The main tower PC has not had problems so far but we have noticed that short videos have been so slow that at times they freeze. Again this is very recent. Many thanks.

Hi Bob - not sure where Neener went nor if his issue was sorted out, but I'm stuck in the same place. The manual for the printer tells me to select a WLAN network and put the printer in SES/WPS/AAOS mode - which I did. Then it, in theory, went looking wirelessly for my Airporter Extreme. It thought for 3 minutes and then came back with "No Access Point". The AE is working fine, but the printer can't find it.
And another weird issue is that when I installed the drivers from the CD that came with the printer, it doesn't show up anywhere on my computer - nor does it show up as an option to add the printer. It's just non-existent.
Here are the details....
Printer: Brother HL-3070cl
MacbookPro: 10.6.7
Router: Airport Extreme
Wireless mode: Create a wireless network
Wireless security: WPA2 Personal (is that ok even if this is for a business?)
Connect using: ethernet
Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
Any help you can offer me would be SO appreciated. I'm pulling my hair out and have been trying to figure this out for nearly 2 hours now!!

Help : very slow connection speed with AEBS and iMac

I connect to the internet using my newly purchased AEBS. I have a MacBook and an 24" iMac ( purchased in Nov 2007). My iMac showed very slow connecting speed of <1 MB/s download; with my MacBook placed just 1 foot from my iMac, the MacBook showed an amazing download speed of 20MB/s. If i connect the iMac to the AEBS using ethernet cable, it can get a very high speed.
So, where is the problem??
I am new to wireless, please help. I use iMac more than my MacBook at home.
Actually, i did not touch the any of the advance setting of the AEBS.

You know, I am experiencing the same problem. My wife's PC and iPhone are blazing fast, but my MacBook is accessing the internet at about dial-up speeds. Very frustrating and I haven't yet found the culprit.
Anyone???
