Connection string problem

I am connecting to Oracle 11g from MFC application using CDatabase class. I need DSN less connection.
I downloaded 64-bit ODAC 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.1.0) for Windows x64 from oracle.com. These contain 64-bit Oracle ODBC Driver 12.1.0.1.0.
Using this driver, I am able to connect to Oracle using TNS service. This works fine. Following is the connection string,
"Driver=Oracle in OraClient12Home1;Dbq=ORCL2;Uid=system;Pwd=manager"
But if I try connect using hostname, port, database name, it gives error. Following is the connection string I am using,
"Driver={Oracle in OraClient12Home1};Uid=system;Pwd=pass1;Server=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=xyz)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=ORCL)(SERVER=DEDICATED)));"
I want to connect without using TNS service. Is it possible? Is there something wrong?
Thanks.

ERROR? What Error?
I don't see any error.

  • #Name in Access table - Connection string problem

    Dear All,
    Hope you can help with this one. I am using the 9.0.1.8 ODBC driver set to connect to our Oracle817 database. Usually when connecting tables everything is fine, and no problems appear. There are, however, a small handful of tables that cause ODBC Call Failed errors when I attempt to connect and open them, they display an incorrect record count, and fill all columns with #Name.
    After checking someone else's PC, I have found that the problem is caused by the connection string. Obviously the connection string is genereated from the setting used in the ODBC Admin panel, but how do I get it to include or exclude the settings that are causing the problems?
    With thanks in advance,
    Paul.

    The Application Name is used for the database administrator to see the name of the application that is connecting to SQL Server. If it is not provided, the default value is '.NET SQLClient Data Provider'.

    Hi,
    I have copied a number of SSID packages from a live server to my test server and am trying to get them up and running but I have a problem with the connection. The only thing that is different is the server name. I decided to keep the same connection in the connection manager as it is referenced in a dtsConfig file. I changed the dtsConfig file to reference the new servername [Data Source= new test server name]. I also check my paths and they are pointing to the correct config locations etc.
    I found this post which was similar to my problem but I still get problems with the connection
    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1319961&SiteID=1
    I updated the connection by changing the server name in the actual connection. I did this from the data flow tab in the Connection Managers sections (MS Visual Studio). Right clicked - Edit - changed the name of the server name to my test server and selected the database. Test connection was fine, and saved this.
    Once I saved this, the connection string changed to my current test server in the properties of the connection. However when I run the package I get the following error:
    Error: 0xC0202009 at ReportsImport, Connection manager "myconnectionstring": SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.

    An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [53]. ".

    Error: 0xC0024107 at Myprocess import from file: There were errors during task validation.
    So even if I change the existing connection properties and save and Build my package again, my connection properties (connectionstring, servername etc) all revert back to its original data source when I re-open the package. Simply it does not seem to be saving the connection properties i put in.
    What am I doing wrong or how can I change the existing connection manager to look at the new server. The database is  the same and I have full admin privilege on the server.
    I don't want to recreate my packages as there are alot and they are not simple.
    After changing the connection properties, saving and reloading I get a connection error. But this is because it is not retaining the new connection manger setting i entered.
    Incidentally - I created a new SSID to perform a simple connection and write to the the server and it was OK so there is no problem with actually seeing the my test server.
    Thanks in advance

    Yes, the package is in visual studio and I have executed it. There are no errors but in the output i have the error message about my connection. My dtsConfig file is added to the project in the 'Package Configuration Organizer' and path and files are correct. This is the output error:
    Error: 0xC020801C at xx import from file, xxReportsImport [79]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER.  The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "myconnectionname" failed with error code 0xC0202009.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.
    I will try and run it using dtexec.exe. if I have two config files do i use
    dtsexec.exe /f <packagename> /conf <configfile> /conf <secondconfigfile>

  • Changing Connection String dynamically at runtime

    I am using the Crystal Report Viewer control in in a Visuall Studio 2008 C# project.  The reports are created inside of Visual Studio 2008, and will be running against an InterSystems Cache database.  I have to use an ODBC (RDO) connection and use a connection string.
    I have seen many examples of how to update the connection string at runtime if it is SQL server (or some flavor thereof), but nothing for an ODBC (RDO) connection to a NON-MSSQL database.
    The problem when I update the connection string for each of the tables in the report, the report will either not run and display a window -- tiled 'Datbase Login' -- that has the Server, Database, Username, and Password fields on the window, OR, it will run but not against the database that was specified at runtime (it uses the connection stored in the report).
    Code Sample #1 (This is using the connection string, and will cause a the "Database Login" window to be displayed - the first scenario from above)
    rd = new ReportDocument();
    // Load the report
    rd.Load(fileName, OpenReportMethod.OpenReportByDefault);
    rd.Refresh();

            connectionInfo.Type = ConnectionInfoType.CRQE;
            return connectionInfo;
    I have also tried setting connectionInfo.ServerName equal to just the real server name, but that didn't work either.
    After the above operations are performed, I simply assign the returned ReportDocument object to the Crystal Viewer control.  If I don't call the above functions, and just set the ReportDocument source (using whatever connection string was embedded in the report originally), the report runs as expected.  Only when I attempt to update the connection string, the report will not execute.  Please advise.  Thanks!

  • Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.0 - Connection Pool Problem

    Hi,
    Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.0 is having connection pool problem. The no. of TCP connections to Oracle database keep increasing untill the server's session run out of limit. My application created connections, use them, close them, and dispose them properly. When using previous Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.20, the no. of TCP connections do not increase.
    My database connection string has "Min Pool Size = 3 and Max Pool Size = 150".
    With 2.111.6.20 version, TCP connection stays at 3.
    With 2.112.1.0, TCP connection keep increasing for every 5 minutes. I've tried to disable Self Tuning, but still can't prevent the connections from increasing.
    Later today, I downloaded Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.2 (it comes with ODAC 11.2.0.1.2) and test again, the problem is resolved... no more connection increases... but.... it is only for 32 bit Windows.
    Unfortunately, there is no Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.2 for 64 bit Windows Server 2008.
    May I know how can i resolve this problem on 64bit Window installed with Oracle 11g R2 client, which comes with Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.0, which has serious problems...(according to this 11.2 ODP.NET causing test runner failures )
    Many thanks for your time and answers!

    Hi,
    The only thing that jumps out within your problem description is that connections are being increased every 5 minutes. Are you sure its every 5 minutes and not 3 minutes which is the timing interval used by the Connection Pool facility to perform connection pool maintenance. If this occurs even when the application is idle then you could be running into the following known issue filed against 11.2.0.1.0 and fixed in 11.2.0.1.2.
    Bug 9711600 - CONNECTIONS INCREASE BEYOND MAX POOL SIZE EVERY 3 MINUTE
    This is specific to using the option CommandBehavior.CloseConnection when calling execute reader. Are you using this option and then also closing the connection in code before the datareader object is closed, if so you may be hitting this bug. You can also generate an ODP trace at level 15 of the behavior and if you see negative pool counts, that is also a diagnostic that points to this bug.
    This is fixed in 11.2.0.1.0 Patch 3 or later for x64. If you have support, I recommend you open a service request to verify if this is your issue and if a patch set may help you.

  • Can't change the connection string of SSIS package with derived columns?

    We upgraded SQL server 2008 to 2012, copied and converted all SSIS packages from Visual Studio 2008 to 2010.  When I opened a package in VS 2010 and tried to change the connection string, in the local connection managers, if the data source is another
    SSIS package B(.dtsx file) with derived columns, I can't change the connection string of package B. When I opened the file connection manager editor for package B and tried to locate a dtsx file in another location, saved the change, reopened the project.
    Package B still pointed to previous file.  Other packages without derived columns work fine. Any thoughts?

    We are using the package deployment model and refer to other packages in the same project. If
    we changed the path of package B (with derived columns) to "D:\Visual Studio 2010\xxxx", and refer it in package A, in the A's connection manager, the connection string of package B is still its previous location  "D:\Visual
    Studio 2008\xxxx". When we ran the package A in the SQL server agent, the data source is still
     "D:\Visual
    Studio 2008\xxxx", so how can I change it to "D:\Visual
    Studio 2010\xxxx"? Why has the package C (without derived columns) no such problem? thanks.

  • Host String Problem

    Hi everyone, i searched the forum and found same problem with me but i did not work for me. The problem is i cannot connect my sql plus. i enter my username and password then it asks me gor host string but when i type it and enter "ok" it says "TNS Listener does not currentl know of service requested in connect descriptor. i looked at my tnsnames.ora file and is exactly like this.
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    CSE348 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Canavar)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = cse348)
    So what shoul i type to connect sql plus?

    Given the tnsnames.ora content, the following needs to be entered for sqlplus in order to have it use that connection string in the file:
    sqlplus scott/tiger@CSE348As you have not qualified the alias with a domain, it will default to "+.world+" as far as I recall. If the default domain in your local sqlnet.ora differs, than that default will be used to find alias CSE348 in the local tnanmes.ora file. So make sure that you do not mix default and explicit domain names. Rather specify a default domain in sqlnet.ora and use the same domain for defining full qualified domain name TNS aliases in tnsnames.ora.
    As for the error - the Listener receives a connection request for a service called cse348 - and no such service has registered with it. You can check the known services of the listener using the "+lsnrctl services+" command on the server.
    Often in this case, it is easier to request a specific database instance using its system identifier, or SID. In which case you can change your connection string for the alias to use a SID as follows:
    CSE348 =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Canavar)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVER = DEDICATED)
          (SID = cse348)
      )This assumes that the SID is cse348. The default SID is for example orcl. SIDs like dev and prod are also often used.

  • Linq2sql Connection string for crystal report. Report requires logon

    If I take out the connection string info the report runs fine from my machine but any other user it asks for logon information so I am trying to add the connection info. The line that is not compiling is `cr1.SetDatabaseLogon(connection, cr1);`
    What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated!
        private void launchReport(int pKReport)
            using (DataClasses1DataContext db = new DataClasses1DataContext())
                var query = (from s in db.expenseHdrs
                             join d in db.expenseDtls on s.rptNo equals d.rptNo
                             where s.rptNo == pKReport
                             from g in db.employees
                             join r in db.expenseHdrs on g.pk equals r.empPk
                             select new
                                 s.period,
                                 s.description,
                                 s.department,
                                 s.rptNo,
                                 s.reimbursement, g.name,
                                 d.expDate,
                                 d.expType,
                                 d.expDesc
                CrystalReport1 cr1 = new CrystalReport1();
                ConnectionInfo connection = new ConnectionInfo();
                connection.DatabaseName = "intranet";
                connection.UserID = "sa";
                connection.Password = "*****";
                cr1.SetDatabaseLogon(connection, cr1);
                cr1.SetDataSource(query);
                crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = cr1;
    I also tried changing the code after my query to below but I still have the exact same problem as before when I didnt have the connection string credentials. On every user but myself I get the same sql server login screen and no matter what I enter it fails. I think it is due to there being no database name which it will not allow me to manually enter.
         CrystalReport1 cr1 = new CrystalReport1();
                    cr1.FileName = @"C:\Intranet\CrystalReport1.rpt";
                    ConnectionInfo connectionInfo = new ConnectionInfo();
                    connectionInfo.ServerName = "svr-sql";
                    connectionInfo.DatabaseName = "intranet";
                    connectionInfo.UserID = "sa";
                    connectionInfo.Password = "*****";
                    SetDBLogonForReport(connectionInfo, cr1);
                    cr1.SetDataSource(query);
                    crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = cr1;
        private void SetDBLogonForReport(ConnectionInfo connectionInfo, CrystalReport reportDocument)
                Tables tables = reportDocument.Database.Tables;
                foreach (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table table in tables)
                    TableLogOnInfo tableLogonInfo = table.LogOnInfo;
                    tableLogonInfo.ConnectionInfo = connectionInfo;
                    table.ApplyLogOnInfo(tableLogonInfo);

    The code I use is as follows:
    Dim crDatabase As Database
    Dim crTables As Tables
    Dim crTable As Table
    Dim crTableLogOnInfo As TableLogOnInfo
    Dim crConnectionInfo As ConnectionInfo
    Dim crReportDocument As ReportDocument
    CrConnectionInfo = New ConnectionInfo
    With crConnectionInfo
    .ServerName = "dbconn1"
    .DatabaseName = "Pubs"
    .UserID = "vantech"
    .Password = "vantech"
    crDatabase = crReportDocument.Database
    crTables = crDatabase.Tables
    End With
    crDatabase = crReportDocument.Database
    crTables = crDatabase.Tables
    For Each crTable In crTables
    crTableLogOnInfo = crTable.LogOnInfo
    crTableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo
    crTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crTableLogOnInfo)
    Next
    This assumes that there are no subreports (or at least that if there are subreports, they use identical db connection info).
    My recommendation would be to test the above code with a simple test report (one table, one field). If you have subreports, you may need to set the logon for those also - depends on how the subreports are implemented. Subreport logon code would be something like this:
    Dim crSubreportDocument As ReportDocument
    crSubreportDocument = crReportDocument.OpenSubreport("Ron")
    crConnectionInfo = New ConnectionInfo
    With crConnectionInfo
    .ServerName = "Rcon1"
    .DatabaseName = "Northwind"
    .UserID = "vantech"
    .Password = "vantech"
    End With
    crDatabase = crSubreportDocument.Database
    crTables = crDatabase.Tables
    For Each crTable In crTables
    crTableLogOnInfo = crTable.LogOnInfo
    crTableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo
    crTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crTableLogOnInfo)
    Next
    Alternatively, you could download the db logon writing utility that is attached to this KB and implement that.

  • Connection string to insert data to Oracle DB

    Hay guys,
    Now I am facing the problem to insert data to the oracle db. I already connect the db to my netbeans service tag & also found the db & tables. But does not know how to insert, delete etc from my JSF pages. I send my JSF code. You guys tell me in which position in the code I will set the connection string, as well as the pattern of connection string. You guys found that I add a button name "show". I want that when I press the "show" button then the relative data will show in the corresponding textfield. I would like to mention that my database server ip is "192.168.56.2". And my netbeans installed pc's ip is "192.168.56.1". My oracle SID is "orcl", user name: "Asystem", Password: "abc123", and the table I want to access is "user_info". Please guys help me.....

    im not sure if you can make a query directly from your jsf,
    but its a better practice to do that in your backing bean

  • Database connection string dynamic

    Hello everybody,
    My application should do some tests that user choses.
    For each test type I should save the database in a file with different name, something like : Report_YYYY_MM_DD_Test_x, without stopping the execution of the application.
    My problem is that i cannont rename the database after Teststand wrote in it. I must stop first the application and then I can rename it.
    I tried to build dynamic connection strings and to prepare the database before Teststand write it. But I saw that after the first acces, despite of new connection string, Testand write further in the database described in the first connection string. Also seems that the handle to database once established, will be released at the end of test. I could close the connection to the DB but i don't know if it is possible.
    for any ideea how to handle this situation i would be grateful

    Hi Harleen Kaur Chadha,
    I understand your requirement is access 5-6 database on same server using one JDB receiver channel. I think, it is possible. SAP Help [Link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi711/helpdata/en/44/7c24a75cf83672e10000000a114a6b/frameset.htm ]. In receiver JDB channel select Message Protocol : u201CNative SQL Stringu201D. Then you have make sure that the payload coming to this JDBC receiver channel should look like this
    INSERT INTO DatabaseName : tableName
    (column-name1, column-name2, column-name3)
    VALUES(u2018column-value1u2019, u2018column-value2u2019, u2018column-value3u2019)
    But, the mapping program you are using now, should generate the String (shown above). And SAP says this protocol is primarily for test purposes.
    FYI. If you select Message Protocol: "XML SQL Format", finally it would be converted to string (shown above) will be sent to database.
