Consolidation operator

I just started learning Essbase, Apologies if my question is not straight forward.
How to set consolidation operators using rules file instead of doing through member properties.

not a silly question but one that has been asked many times. Yes you can build the properties in a dimension build rules file. In your source you would have the property set and reference the column in the rule following the item it refers to. For example suppose you have the following
Net Income +
----Sales +
----Expenses -
and in yout load file you have
Accounts,Net Income,Sales,+
Accounts,Net Income,Expenses,-
The first column would be set to gen 2, Accounts, the second column to gen 3, accounts, the fourth to Gen4,Accounts and the fifth to Property 4, Accounts

Setting Member Consolidation
Member consolidation properties, which are listed in Table 16, Consolidation Operators, determine how children roll up into their parents. By default, new members are given the addition (+) operator, meaning that members are added. For example, Jan, Feb, and Mar figures are added and the result stored in their parent, Qtr1.
Note:
Essbase does not use consolidation properties with members of attribute dimensions. See Calculating Attribute Data.

Diff between valid for consolidation and aggregation property in ODI column

I have a query regarding the columns when we revers the dimensions in ODI. In the columns tab of each dimension, there is valid for consolidation column. What does this column to when we select it. Coz any how i will be using the aggregation for plan type where i will be giving the consolidation operator. Could you please let me know the differences between them
And also there is one more column Operation. What does this do

You can ignore the "valid for consolidation column" as far as I am aware it is not used.
Operation is for different types of load, these are
Update (default)–Adds, updates, or moves the member being loaded.
Delete Level 0–Deletes the member being loaded if it has no children.
Delete Idescendants–Deletes the member being loaded and all of its descendants.
Delete Descendants–Deletes the descendants of the member being loaded, but does
not delete the member itself.

Version of Consolidation

Hi all
I want to know wich is the better way to cuztomizing a hierarchy for a group of company that in legal consolidation have 5 company and in managment consolidation have 6 company.
Is it good have two hierarchies in a version? or have a hierarchie per version or is it necesary have other consolidation area?
Two consolidation (Legal and Mngmet) have the same data collection, the same rules interunit elimination, the same validation only are diferent hierarchy and reports.

And I would add - they have the same data sources -- the same and one version is acceptable.
In a version you may have several hierarchies of ConsUnits, regardless of number of units in each. All consolidation operations are run simultaneously for all hierarchies in one go. Only Operations on the level 30 (Consolidation Of Investments and supply chain unrealized profit eliminations) should be executed separately for each hierarchy.

Consolidation operators during Dimension creation

Hi everyone,
During dimension hierarchy creation, by default all Generations get default (+) addition as the consolidation operator.
How can I ignore(~) few members from consolidations at same or different generations ?

you can not only influence the unary operator, but other attributes as well.

ASO and the "^" operator

I am working with an ASO application. In the accounts dimension (dynamic) I tried to use the "^" (non consolidation operator) on a percentage. It doesn't work it still aggregates on other dimensions. While "+" and "~" are the only operators for stored I can find no documentation saying that the "^" operator is excluded. In addition it is accepted and the outline reflects that the members have this consolidation set.
Has anyone any information on this? If not I'll open a case with Oracle.

Right - I appreciate that you're setting the property on a member in a dynamic hierarchy, but what I'm saying is that given how ASO processes upper-level queries I don't see how that property could possibly be respected when aggregating up the stored hierarchies.
That's exactly what you're seeing and what I saw in my testing - actually, I don't think I could even make it work across multiple dynamic hierarchies (which ought to be possible). And yes, I also agree that this behaviour is not reflected in the documentation. Annoying!

^ operator (Never Consolidate)

I'm using Hyperion Essbase 9.3.1.. I've used ^ (never consolidate) in some of my dimension members like rates so that they won't be added across dimensions. Am I right? It worked before. It just returned 0 for the totals which was my expected result. But now, I noticed that it wasn't working anymore. The rates add-up even after setting its consolidation operator to ^. I don't have any idea why. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Btw, its storage type is store only.

Please use tiled operation (~) to ignore the consolidation of a member.....after changed please reload the data and check..

Loading data to a cube

Hi All,
We have created one cube and loaded data successfully.
But we have one dimension named periodType: the members of the period are:Annual, Quarterly and Monthly.
Client asked to make Monthly as + and remaining ~.
For that we have created one view in that we have added one column aggr_cons.
I have defined it as +* for monthly and the rest as *~*. I’m using that column as the consolidation operator.
But the data load is laoding only a few records.
Actually client asked me to create an Attribute dimension but it is not possible in EIS.
We are using EIS 7.1.2 and SQL server 2005.
For PeriodType dimension we have written the query like
select distinct PeriodType,aggr_cons
from ClaimsData_2
PeriodType is a column in table and it contains Annual,Quarterly,Monthly.
Please let me know any ideas to do this.
Only thing is i have to make Monthly as +* and remaining *~*.

Hi Pratap,
Ffirst do following changes in datasource (i.e. SQL Server, Oracle whatevere you are using): -
1- Create a new table say 'Population' and add add two column say id and population like 100,200....etc. Define id as primary key.
2- Now assuming that you have a SQL table called 'Product' so add column called 'Attribute' create it relationship with column 'id' of table 'Population' through foriegn key.
Now do follolwing changes in OLAP metadata & metaoutline:-
1- Suppose you have Product dimension and enable one of its column as attribute.
2- Ok now open metaoutline and expand Product dimension in left panel. Now it will show attributes that you associated.
3- Select an attribute and drag to right panel. It will create a attribute dimension automatically.

Clearing out a member values

I have made a simple form to input percentages in it against entity dimension which has parent-child relationship. All the parents are set to dynamic calc. The issue is that these percentages get added on the parents which gives very bad impression of the form. Is there any way I can clear these percentages from the parents? even the two-pass calculation doesn't work on this situation.

What about just changing the consolidation operator for the %account member to 'Never'? If it isnt set to this at present then I am guessing this is the issue...as you say, doesnt make sense to add % up in most case.

Query regarding Metadata load in Essbase using rule file

In our application,we are loading metadata using Essbase rule file and here we are facing one problem.Suppose we have to load a level 0 member called "xxxx" under two different parent,assume the parent members are Parent_AAAA and Parent_BBBB.But our requirement is the consolidation operator for the first occurrence ( i.e under Parent_AAAA) is "+" and for the shared member under Parent_BBBB is "-".But,when we are loading using rule file the consolidation operator for the shared member always being loaded as "+".Is there any trick to change the consolidation operator for shared member other than changing it manually in outline?

I don't think there is a way to change the default setting.
However, what you can do is to have a different load rule and different text file with only the metadata that you want to have an exception for shared members. That way, you can achieve it as you do not have to change the existing rule file.

** How to simulate the conditional statements in web analysis

i have an "average" member in the Measures dimension on ASO application.
i wrote a MDX formulae to it as IIF(A=0 OR A=MISSING), B/12, A/12
In the web analysis when i view the data at level-0 it will display correct value but when i apply filters on other dimensions the value is increasing, i have ~ consolidation operator applied to the average member and i have the measures dimension as dynamica hierachy and its an accounts dim.
"As per the Average member it should take the average but the average is gettting doubled when we apply filters"
so i have tried to apply a average formulale in web analysis rather than in essbase, when i apply filters also it is working fine but when the A value is 0 i am getting 0 value but as per the requirement it should be B/12
so please guide me does can i use any coniditional statements in web analysis?
if not when i drill up how does my essbase gives the correct result instead of consolidating.

How could it not be 5A?. If you have A for each member and then you select 5 members you are going to get 5A. If you don't want 5A then what do you want the Avg of A across the 5 members?
The tools are working the way they are designed to, your requirement is a little out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, Web Analysis does not have conditional logic.
Try taking my previous suggestion and adding another member in Essbase called "Count", make it dynamic calc and the formula should be ' 1; '
The purpose here is to get a value of one in the count member for each member you are going to select in your filter. So, if you select five members in the filter, Web Analysis will now return 5A and it will return the result of "Count" which will be 5. Create a calculated member that divides the 5A value by the count value 5. That will give you the average A for the 5 members, then you can divide by 12.

ESSBASE Aggregation Issue.

I am facing a serious problem with Essbase. Iam implementing Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2 for one of our client and first time I am implementing this version.
The aggregation is not working in my setup. I have written a rule to aggregate the hierarchy. I have tried with AGG, CALC DIM, etc. But still the same issue.
I have also tried running the Calculate web form rule file, but still aggregation is not happening.
I have also noticed that in Planning Dimension maintenance, even the level 0 members showing the consolidation operation.
Any body has clue?
Please help me as I am unable to proceed further.

It is probably worth testing your script as a calc script and then run it directly against the essbase database using EAS, then check the data with Smart View, this process should eliminate any issues in planning or calc manager.
If you are still having problems then post your script and I am sure somebody will give you some further advice.

Where to search for a specific Dimention related data

Hi,
I guess, hyperion planning store the dimention related data( parent, child, uda,attributes, consolidation operator, data storage etc) in some relational tables of that planning application. Can anybody help me understand where & how those data is stored and what are the table name I should look for a particular dimention related data?
Actually I need to look into the planning RDBMS table to get the membernames of one particular dimention and search another huge Oracle database to search for those and retrieve the relevant data writing a query. I am using Planning ver9.3.1

Take a look at below tables in your application repository schema (db), they are all linked through id fields and they include dimensional infromation.
HSP_OBJECT
HSP_OBJECT_TYPE
HSP_DIMENSION
HSP_MEMBER
HSP_ALIAS
You get detail information from HSP_OBJECT. HSP_OBJECT keeps entire details for entire metadata. Other tables will help you understand the relations, positions etc.

ASO - Max number of Children

<p>I'm building a dimension in an aso cube that has 13,152 childrenrolling to a single parent. The process does not reject anyrecords, but only adds 13,029 children...what's up with that?</p>

There are limits to the numbers of members that you can have in your outline, but that would require you to have a whole lot of members in other dimensions and then I think you get an error on the dim build/outline save. This seems more like you have a data issue or maybe some consolidation operator errors on your members. I threw together a simple ASO outline with three dims, One member in an account dim, 12 members in a time dim and 14000 members in a "member" dim. I loaded a value of one to each member across the 12 periods and my top level result is the expected 168,000. So there is no issue with the number of children rolling up to that single parent.<BR><BR>There is a limit on the Number of stored dimension level combinations in an aggregate storage outline. Again, I would expect the outline to be pretty large to hit this limit, and again, I would expect the error to show up on dim build/outline save, but I just don't know for sure on that one. You can go into the DBA guide and search the "Limits" section to get a better idea.
