Constant Mouse Freezing about ever 3 seconds

Ok, I have searched high and low for an answer. I did an SMC reset, and that worked for about 3 hours, until I shut my computer off. This seems increasingly odd to me, because it is not a problem with my mouse, because I tested it on my Apple Trackpad and a USB mouse(non-apple). If you did not quite catch that, the problem is that every 3 or so seconds, the mouse will freeze in place for about a half of a second. I am running a mac mini (mids 2011) with 2.5ghz processor and 500gb memory, with about 450gbs left. I have the AMD Readon Graphics too. I am also running Lion 1.7.5
ANy help is greatly apprecieated

If it happens again...
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Mouse Freezing on external screen?

Ever since I have been using my laptop with an external screen, it seems like the mouse freezes for a few seconds, then it starts working again. I don't know if this is the actual computer freezing or the mouse? Can anyone help me understand why this happens. I only have a 1gb of ram. Could that be reason? I am not really opening to many programs.

Same Issue here. See picture below:
    Mac details:
Processor  2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  Intel Iris Pro
    Software  OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
HDMI Cable connected to LG LCD TV
I'm not sure but it could be that I have started experiencing this glow since a Mavericks update ( I didn't have this issue the first months after upgrading to Mavericks).....
Did anyone already submit a bug report over here : https://bugreport.apple.com  ????

Put it into DFU mode - hold the sleep/wake button and home button until the screen goes black (ignoring the slide to turn off slider). When the screen goes black release the sleep/wake button but hold the home button. Continue holding the home button for 10 seconds, then release it. The screen should stay black. Plug it into iTunes and it should come up with this message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. It must be restored before use", that's when it is successfully in DFU mode. Now press the restore button in iTunes and it should run smoothly :)

This happens even if I simply hover the mouse over bookmarks, not even opening a page.
And waiting for this to happen some times or closing and re-opening seems to make it work ok again.
I've already disabled almost all add-ons (I'm using only one for Flash and NoScript right now), reinstalled Firefox (8.0.1), restoring only the bookmarks from an older version.

    Hello USME,
'Tis a common problem on old Macs.
Do as Allan says: open the door and blow out all the dust bunnies. Canned air from Wal-Mart or Radio Shack can be handy (though sort of expensive) especially for blowing through the back of the power supply. A cool Mac is a happy Mac.
Be sure your Mac can breathe. The air intake is on the bottom of the case, so be sure a deep pile rug or too many papers on your desk are not blocking the air supply.
Feel the power supply and the processor with your hand. They should be warm but not hot; if you have to move your hand away, that's too hot!
Check the fan on the power supply, and on the processor if it has one. Take a flashlight and peer in the back of the (Mac) case through  the grille; make sure the fan is turning. If it's not, the power supply won't work for long.
Fans are not considered serviceable, though they will succumb to mechanics of determination. A CPU fan is easy and straightforward.
A fan replacement will not cure an already damaged power supply; the PS may already be done for. Used power supplies for a DA are hard to come by, and not especially cheap when found (c.$50). An entire  working DA or Quicksilver may often be found for under $100 on eBay, and swapping in your HD is easy and simple... this might be cheaper and more expeditious than repairing an expired DA. Replacing a power supply is fairly easy, but it's a nuisance and requires a 2mm Allen head wrench in addition to the usual #2 Phillips head screwdriver.
In my experience, power supplies and CPUs are about equally likely to fail. There are a few other possibilities, but they are not nearly so common.
    Good luck!... Jon

  • Please help: Mouse cursor on MBP repeatedly freezing for a few seconds

    Hi all
I bought a MBP last week, and today I started experiencing problems with the mouse cursor. No matter whether I'm using the trackpad or an external mouse (I've tried using both a wired Mighty Mouse and a wireless Logitech), when I'm moving the cursor it keeps freezing for a few seconds (perhaps less than a second), and then I "regain" control of it, only for it to freeze again after a short while.
The only thing that I can think of that might have something to do with this is that I replaced the 2GB of Apple RAM with 4GB of OWC RAM a couple of days ago. Can this be the reason?
Please help me, as this problem renders the computer impossible to use:(
    Thanks in advance
    Daniel
PS: I'm running Mac OS 10.5.1 and I've got the Keyboard Freeze Update Installed.

    Hi.
I have a similar problem, however I realized it is somehow related to weather the airport is on. If I turn it off, there are no freezes. It is weird, and I'm going to go with it to Apple.

  • My mac freezes just for a second about every two seconds and it gets really hot really fast?

When i am watching a video or just scrolling on a webpage, even typing, there is a small glitch ever 1-2 seconds where everything freezes just for a second. Its almost as if its lagging all the time. I have tried every utility and cant figure it out. Also, it gets pretty hot pretty fast, even when im doing much on it. Are these two things related? how do i fix it?
    thanks

If you can, visit an Apple Store. Before you do, set up the phone "as new device" without using the backup afterwards, described here: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
If you still have problems after that, visit the Store or call Apple to get it serviced: Apple - Support - Service Answer Center

  • Mouse Freezes up in Hawaii but it doesn't snow on Oahu!

My mouse freezes every 5 minutes. The computer and apps are still running including the clock - just the mouse (curser and arrow) for about 15 seconds then starts up again. BUT, when a lot of information is being transfered to the external HD then the mouse freezes until done.
It seemed to have started when I was working on FCP two days ago. Is there something with Final Cut Pro that is causing this? It seems to freeze up more often when working with FCP.
I remember years ago this happening and the Apple Genius guys removed something from the Library and told me it will replace this item automatically... what was it that we replaced (preferences? or application support?)
    Thanks,
    JKai

Nope it's not a Bluetooth mouse. I use a USB mouse.
Something changed on the software in the past week. I have never had this problem since owning this iMack for three years. Something happened last week when working with FCP. I thought I hit a command that said "calculating". I saw it once but was never able to get that command back. It's like it's calculating the FCP timeline and causing the mouse to freeze - I think because of the crunching power needed to calculate something about FCP timeline. Any one ever heard of this?

  • Mouse Freezes in After Effects

So sometimes when I'm editing in After Effects, everything will be fine for a little while. Then, randomly, my mouse will stop moving. I've no idea why. I don't think it's my computer because everything else is fine.
I know it's not my computer that freezes because when I hit the windows key on my keyboard (I have a Windows 8 Tosihba laptop) the grid pops up and the animation of the email app and the other apps move fine. Yet my mouse just doesn't move.
Also, I'm able to use the volume keys, brightness keys and everything else....just my mouse won't move!
There is a a kye on my keyboard that allows me to enable/disable my mouse pad but I've tried hitting it a few times and it still doesn't work when my mouse freezes.
Sometimes my mouse will start working again on it's own but most of the time I just have to restart my computer.
The reason I believe it's After Effects is because it only ever happens in that software. It never happens in anything else. It doesn't even happen in Photoshop or Flash.
I also have a trail of Premiere and today it happened again in that software. Is it something in the files that's messing with my mouse?
I tried reinstalling the softwares but that didn't seem to change anything.
I chatted with someone from Adobe a while ago about it and they are actually the ones who suggested maybe it's the software. When I was chatting with them, I actually just started the chat about a different issues and just asked about my mouse in passing and I didn't have time to really discuss it and I've been meaning to revisit the issue but I've been busy haha.
I think I may have to go chat again with an agent but I thought I'd just write the issue here in case someone had an answer and I could skip chatting, espcially if it's something I could just fix.
Thanks for your help in advance!
And if you need to know (because it always seems to be the first question asked on software forums like this! haha) here are my tech specs.
Computer Model --- Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332
    Processor ----------- AMD A6 - 4400M APU with Radeon(tm)
                                       HD Graphics 2.70 GHz
    RAM ----------------- 6.00 GB (5,46 GB usable)
    System Type ------ 64 - bit Operating System, x64 - based processer

    Thanks for replying Rick!
I'm refering to my mouse pad on my laptop. However I also have a wacom pen tablet that I use as well and it acts as a mouse. Usually that one works over the built in mouse pad of my laptop, but most times neither work.  And the tablet is just plugged in with a usb cable.
I try not to run too many softwares at once but if I do, it's usually After Effects and...Google Chrome. Maybe Photoshop - in case I need to make up some images to import into After Effects, but most of the time it's After Effects and Google Chrome only.
I had After Effects on my old computer (It was a dell inspiron 1500 I believe...I don't remember but After Effects was barely able to even run on it!) I had my Toshiba (I mentioned the specs in the first post) for about a year and only reinstalled After Effects about half way through the year of 2013. I noticed it happened a copule of times but didn't think much of it. There was a time perdio where  I didn't need After Effects for a while (like a couple of monthes) but sometime...in Dec. I think, I used After Effects and I noticed it started to happen again.
It's really paculiar because it only happens in After Effects, and I only started using Premiere this week, and I noticed it happend there too. That's why I decided to post in the forum. It's really werid!

  • Leopard installed, DVD now freezes and stalls within seconds

I have a G5 1.8ghz with 1.25GB of ram. The DVD player starts, but freezes after a few seconds of disjointed video playback. Audio continues, but the pointer turns into a permanent 'swirl' and the computer hangs. I can't then stop the player or eject the disk. The only thing I can do to regain control is switch it off at the wall. I tried deleting the DVD folder under Library settings as suggested by another user, but the system just re-creates it and the problem continues. HELP PLEASE?

I first posted this question two days ago. Meanwhile, I left the machine plugged in and stashed in the corner. Last night, as I was about to go to bed, I noticed the "sleep" behavior coming from my TiBook - the brightening and fading of the apple light on the cover!
I opened the lid and viola - it was running, my mouse worked, the menus worked, I could close it down or restart it as normal, I could change between OS9 and OXS like before - in short, it was back to normal.
So I now have the answer to "what to do?" Just leave it plugged in for a few days.

  • Wired USB mouse freezing intermittently, becoming more frequent

I have an old Mac running Snow Leopard.  I have been having an intermittent problem with the USB wired mouse freezing.  However, the frequency of occurance is increasing to the point where it has moved beyond occasional annoyance to multiple times a day problem.  The keyboard still works but it requires a Crash reboot into safe mode to get the mouse working again.  Changing to a different brand mouse doesn't help.  Repairing disk permissions doesn't help.  Turning off the energy savers doesn't help.  Doesn't seem to matter whether bootcamp is running or not.  Doesn't seem to matter whether VMWare is running or not.  Occurs with more frequency when camera is hooked up to the USB, but only increases the occurance rate.  It still freezes when the camera isn't hooked up.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Repeating mouse freeze followed by blue screen then back to normal

Hi guys, if anyone can help with this, I'd really appreciate it... it's really driving me nuts! Every few minutes, my mouse freezes, the screen then goes totally blue for a 10-20 secs. The screen then goes back to normal for a second or two then back to a transparent blue screen (showing my desktop etc. behind it) for another 10-20 secs then back to normal after maybe one or two more flashes of blue screen. It's got so bad that I can't use the computer any more.
    It's a G4 (2x1.25Ghz) with mirrored doors running 10.3.9 with 1GB of RAM
    Thanks,
    David.

There are so many things that there is no clear symptom or cause as to why the system is partially hung.
I would familiarize myself with the system, buy a book (or two) starting with "Mac OS X: The Missing Manual"
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/resources/
About This Mac... more -> System Profile
will display memory condition, log files (system, panic, etc)
Depends on how much memory, what you are doing, whether you have a driver issue, or maybe a corrupt preference, font, directory.
Unlikely it was a parity error, but if it was a kernel panic, it would not leave it up to your imagination, it would be in clear black and white.
You could run your Apple Hardware Test; Disk Warrior (or just Apple's if you haven't yet bought DW).
Backup and boot from another drive to run repairs.
I would be more concerned over lack of a UPS and a power issue/outage or 'brownout.'

  • Mouse Freeze, Unfreeze, Freeze...

This probably isn't a problem specifically with my motherboard but I'm wondering if anyone has ever had this problem.  It seems to only occur when I'm downloading something.  The mouse will freeze for like 3 seconds then unfreeze for 3 seconds then freeze again (rinse, repeat).  After a few times of it doing that my internet connection drops and the mouse continues to freeze and unfreeze until I finally reboot it.  I think it has also caused my computer to reboot when im not around.  Almost everytime I leave something downloading I will come back and it will be waiting for me to type my login/password.  I'm thinking it has something to do with the network card but I could be wrong... Any insight?

Well, It's actually not just the mouse that freezes my how computer actually seems to seize up too.  I'm finally trying another network card to see if maybe somehow that is the issue... if not im totally out of ideas... ill try the serial mouse idea after that but I don't think that is really going to help at all
