Consuming JSF & ADF Faces Components in Portal Page

I am totally new to Oracle Portal environment and doing some analysis of using Portal in our application.
I was reading that we can create JSP Portlets like adding scriptlets, expression and other JSP & HTML elements.
Is it possible to consume JSF & ADF Faces components in Portal page? I mean, is it possible to create JSF Portlets?

The WSRP provider, which is shipped with Portal 10.1.4, would provide this functionality through the JSF bridge. You need to install Webcenter to get the bridge. This makes me think whether you should use Oracle Portal or rather decide to go for Webcenter as development platform, especially if you have a J2EE background already.

    How many active data ADF faces components (ADS configured in long polling transport mode) can we have on a page? Is there any restriction (eg: one factor could be max number of concurrent HTTP connections) ?

    Can you please tell us which JDev version you are using? A use case would be appreciated too.
    There has been a discussion on ADS here the last couple of days. Search the forum and you may find some useful info.

  • Oracle ADF Faces Components, Early Access Release 8 is now available

    Oracle ADF Faces is a rich set of user interface components based on the new JavaServer Faces JSR (JSR-127). Oracle has been actively involved in this JSR since its beginning. The Oracle ADF Faces Components provide various user-interface components with built-in functionality - such as data tables, hierarchical tables, and color and date pickers - that can be customized and re-used in your application.
    ADF Faces also includes many of the framework features most needed by JSF developers today:
    * File upload support is integrated at a component level.
    * Client-side validation is automatically derived from Validators and Converters for an improved user experience.
    * A pageFlow scope makes it easier to pass values from one page to another.
    * A new hybrid state saving strategy gives developers the best of both client and server-side state saving.
    ADF Faces ensures a consistent look and feel for your application, allowing you to focus more on user interface interaction rather than look and feel compliance. The components support multi-language and translation implementation as well as accessibility features. ADF Faces Components use Partial Page Rendering (PPR) offering superior runtime interactivity. PPR allow the browser to just render a piece of a page instead of the entire page.
    The intention with this early access release is to give developers/architects an opportunity to evaluate JSF and Oracle's JSF component offering.
    Oracle ADF Faces Components can be used in any IDE that support JSF, including Oracle JDeveloper 10g.

  • ADF Faces Components in a Portal

    Hi,
    We have managed to use the ADF Faces components in a normal web environment, but have had problems when using the components in a portal environment. We are using the JSF portlet bridge classes for rendering portlets. We are getting a ClassCastException in the FacesServlet... Anyone used these components in a portal and know how to get around this problem?
    Thanks.

    what is the stack trace of the exception?

  • ADF Faces Components and HTML/JSP Pages

    We would like to create HTML/JSP pages and include some of the ADF Faces Components; ie: date picker, radio buttons, etc.
    When we develop this type of page, upon running in the embedded OC4J, the HTML is processed first and then the ADF Faces Components are processed. In the design panel/editor, everything is in the correct sequence. Upon running in the OC4J, it doesn't matter where in the code we place the ADF Faces Components, these ADF Faces Components always appear at the end of the other HTML and JSF Faces components in the displayed page.
    How can we mix the two technologies? ADF Faces alone is not flexible enough for our needs. We want to use the JSP:include tag for reusable code which works fine in a HTML/JSP page, but not in a ADF Faces PanelPage or PanelBorder or anything similar.
    We're running the EA17 version of the tag library.
    Can we mix the technologies? What are we missing? Is this an issue with the embedded OC4J? Will it make a difference if we develop JSP pages as pure JSP or the JSPX option?
    Thank you.

    The following tag lib allowed me to mix HTML and JSF tags (not sure about other JSP tags though). Hope this helps:

  • Problems while deploying a JSF/ ADF Faces App to Apps Server 10.1.3.0.1

    Dear All,
    I built a JSF based application (Using ADF Faces Components) developed in JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.0 (Application Configuration: [JSF, ADF BC]. The application is running fine with the embedded OC4J intance (automatically aunch by JDeveloper).
    I am now trying to deploy it on the installed Oracle Application Server (running on the same local machine). The details of the versioning for different components in this App server are as follows:
    1. OracleAS J2EE 10.1.3.0.0
    2. Oracle ADF 10.1.3.1.0
    The deployment steps I followed (as given in Chapter 34 of 'Oracle ADF - Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers') seems to be running smoothly. This is because the deploy process ends up showing no erros in the message window.
    However when I tried to test the application with a browser using the Apps Server URL (HTTP://localhost:8888/<my-app>/<firstfile.jspx>), I am finding 'Page not found error'.
    I also tried a manual deployment (using deploy to a WAR file then copy the resulting war & ear files and the xml descriptor file to the Apps server's http root) and gives the war file URL in the browser.
    In this case now I am getting the following error page:
    =====================================================
    The XML page cannot be displayed
    Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
    An invalid character was found in text content. Error processing resource
    'http://localhost:8888/HousingWithADF.war'.
    =====================================================
    Any idea?
    Regards,
    Irfan Ilyas
    PS: I am doubtful about creation of Deployment Descriptors step as the documentation is not very clear about exactly which descriptors we need to create. Using my own idea, I tried to create J2EE descriptor, and one tld (taglibrary) file. However, the manual war deployment generates only the tld file in the deploy folder.

    Thanks for the hint.
    OBSERVATION #1:
    After looking through the administration console for OC4J instance, I found my application name with UP status. When drill-down further, the console gives me the URL which can be used to test the application.
    While using the URL, a different error message was found:
    URL: http://localhost:8888/KFUPMHousing/
    Error:
    ====================
    HTTP 403:(Forbidden)
    ================
    You are not authorized to view this page
    You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.
    From my experience of Microsoft IIS, I know here I may need to configure the folder permissions for a web-user. But exactly which user and where it is defined (at OS Level or in AS), I am not much sure.
    Can you elaborate?
    OBSERVATION #2:
    The log text for my application shows the following error (for the attempt I did with the URL shown above)
    Log Text
    07/01/05 22:43:38.62 HousingWithADF: JspServlet: unable to dispatch to requested page: Exception:java.io.FileNotFoundException: C
    :\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\j2ee\home\applications\HousingWithADF\HousingWithADF\HosReqInfo.jspx (The system cannot find the file specified)
    However, I can browse the file on my local disk in the path specified with a little change in the path. The file is found in 'pages' folder within the last folder,named HousingWIthADF. I tried to move the file in the exact path specified in the log and now finding the 'Page not found' error.
    Any idea?

Unfortunately, #1 requires additional work. See http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/edwingo?entry=component_authoring_for_creator for more information. You may be able to do #2, but I haven't tried it.

  • JDeveloper 10.1.3.4.0: Controlling HTML formatting of ADF Faces components

    I have been investigating the ADF Faces components, and some of them write a fairly substantial block of HTML to the browser.
    The inputText, for example, renders an HTML table containing, among other things, an input, required field indicator, and a span for error display.
    This would appear to limit the amount of control a page designer would have over the precise layout of these sub-elements.
    We are en E-Commerce shop, so the ability to control the exact layout of our pages is critical to our business.
    Are the ADF Faces components going to allow us the fine-grained UI control we need?
    It could be a coincidence, but it seems as if all the real-world application examples in the ADF documentation seem to be business-type applications,
    where the UI is right out of the box with minimal tweaking.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

    Jonathan,
    For a label above the text you can use this:
                <af:group>
                  <af:outputLabel value="outputLabel1"/>
                  <af:inputText/>
                </af:group>You can also achieve a lot of other customization with skins for ADF Faces components.
    But more to the point - since the JSF components offer you more then just basic HTML component I guess there might be a limit to the customization you can do to them.
    At the end your company will need to make the call on what is more valuable - the ability to stick exactly to a style or the ability to use components with rich functionality that save you coding.
    Think for example how much coding on the client you'll need to do in standard JSP/HTML to achieve what the ADF Table component gives you out of the box (sorting, range paging, detail disclosure, banding, etc). Maybe it is worthwhile to be a little more flexible on the layout issues instead of ending up wasting a lot of time writing these code.
    In any case even if you choose to go with plain JSP and Struts or with plain JSF and the plain JSF components - the ADF framework will still enable you to do drag and drop binding to your UI.
    The benefit of the ADF Faces components is the built in functionality they provide with things like partial page rendering, Ajax functionality etc...

  • Information about adf data model's state management in JSF/ADF faces?

    Dear All,
    i am developing an application with JSF/ADF faces + using
    adf data model (EJB, not adf bc)...
    i want to know more about state management of adf data model..
    1. under what condition, will the data in the binding context
    (methodIterator, variableIterator, accessorIterator..etc) be maintained accross
    http requests? say browse pageA.jspx, pageB.jspx, pageC.jspx..then do data
    in the corresponding pages saved somewhere else until session timeout?
    2. how do the binding context data be saved ?? http session?
    i can't find detail information in the adf bc dev guide and the adf dev guide..
    could anyone give me more information about this?? any better document??
    i have asked these question several times...but seem nobody can give me a
    full picture about the adf data model's state management....it is quite important
    in order to develop good application using adf data model.
    my company have brought oracle's support service...can i get these information
    through metalink (open a SR) ?? or actually no such information available ??
    btw, after playing with adf data model for a few weeks, i do find it is very
    hard to learn it... no complete document, information is just by providing example...
    adf data model do make:
    1. simple logic, supported by adf, more simple in coding
    2. simple logic, not supported by adf, more complex in coding
    3. complex logic, much more complex in coding...brain damage..

    Hi,
    actually, these pages don't explain the state management about the adf data model's iterators?
    i want to know the state management of the iterators...for some iterators..it's
    state is maintained across requests...
    please see my previous post: ADF JSF data binding: why state maintained between requests? that Frank Nimphius said:
    "in this case its the iterator that survives the page navigation"...
    in the adf dev guide..section 5.5.5..it says: "Upon each request, the iterator bindings are refreshed to rebind them to the
    underlying RowSetIterator objects. By default, the rowset iterator state and the
    data caches are maintained between requests."
    in dev guide, it seems state is maintained for request for the same page, but not
    accross different pages. but in fact, the rowset iterator do survive...
    any detail document that write down the actual behavior of the iterators?
    thank you.

  • JSF/ADF Faces - ADF-BC example/howto?

    Hi,
    Background:
    ==========
    I know that ADF-BC databinding is not included in the JDev 10.1.3 preview.
    I read and searched nearly all howto's, examples, blogs on ADF-Faces available on the net.
    For the past months I learned how to use the ADF-BC with JClient.
    This convinced me to use the ADF-BC and it's binding features (a fantastic framework!!!!) for my model layer.
    I'm developping a web application.
    Most of the examples on ADF-Faces/JSF are on the View Layer.
    My question:
    ===========
    I read somewhere that JDev 10.1.3 production with drag and drop of ADF-BC databinding will be available only in the summer.
    Question 1:
    ==========
    I suppose that meanwhile it is still possible to use the ADF-BC as the model layer for JSF or ADF-Faces, but the databinding must be done manually, is this correct?
    Question 2:
    ==========
    If answer to 1) is yes.
    Where can I find a howto/best practice document that explains how to use ADF-BC with JSF/ADF-Faces in the backing beans?
    My purpose is to develop my code so that it will be "standard" / "compatible" with the production version of JDev 10.1.3.
    I prefer to use the de-facto JSF standard and code the bindings manualy instead of using Struts with available drag'n drop ADF-BC databinding.
    Your advice will be apreciated
    Frederic

    There is no such document for (1) because we are in the process of delivering design time support for ADF BC integration with ADF Faces, as you mentioned.
    Therefore, you could either continue with ADF UIX, ADFm, ADF BC for the time being, or else try out ADF Faces with session scope Managed Beans. In either case, you'll want to convert this later on, when JDev 10.1.3 completes its support for ADF Faces / ADF BC drag-and-drop integration.
    Kind Regards.

  • ADF Faces Components Demo - Illegal Characters error

    Hi ,
    I downloaded the ADF Faces Components Demo for version 11.1.2.3.0 from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/downloads/index.html . I tried following instructions :ADF Faces Components Demo Install Instructions
    This is getting downloaded as rcf-dvt-demo.zip. I renamed it to rcf-dvt-demo.war.

    The project file "C:\rcf-dvt-demo.war!\Project.jpr" is not valid. The file name may contain illegal characters, it may be too long, or permissions for this file or one of it's parent directories may be restricted.
    Please help . Am i downloading from correct location and following the correct instructions.

    Good Catch Timo ... Lot of thanks.
    Still I will put down the silly mistake of overlooking the wizard.
    I was doing the correct thing - "create a new application and inside this application workspace you add a new 'project from war'." But mistake was .. First step of wizard it is project name and path,, and then second step is war location... and in hurry I was giving the project name and war location in first step.

  • I don't see the components ADF faces in my JSPX page...

    Hi,
    I don't see my components ADF in my JSPX page when I drag and drop them. I have to run my page to see its contents...
    Can somebody help me please. Is it exists an option in Jdeveloper to mask jspx pages contents?
    I use Jdeveloper 10.1.3.4
    Thks,
    M.

    Hi Shay,
    Thank you very much for the blog's link, I found the solution in metalink, Doc ID: 382812.1 .
    There are many causes that make JSF tags not being displayed properly.
    For me, it was du to the web.xml file :
    ADF Faces pages do not display correctly when using the FacesPageCachingFilter (ADF Faces Cache).
    You can put the following lines in your web.xml file in comment during Design Time:
    +<!--filter>+
    +<filter-name>PCF</filter-name>+
    +<filter-class>oracle.webcache.adf.filter.FacesPageCachingFilter</filter-class>+
    +</filter-->+
    I comment the filter-mapping too :
    +<!--filter-mapping>+
    +<filter-name>PCF</filter-name>+
    +<servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>+
    +<dispatcher>REQUEST</dispatcher>+
    +<dispatcher>FORWARD</dispatcher>+
    +</filter-mapping-->+
    Now, all works fine.
    Thks again.

  • ADF Faces - issue with Portal and af table

    I wonder if anybody could help me with a problem we are experiencing with running our ADF Faces app inside a portal (NOT Oracle Portal). We are using the af table tag with the rows attribute set as follows:
    <af:table emptyText="No items found"
    rows="10" banding="row"
    bandingInterval="1"
    binding="#{backing_ModuleSearchReg.table1}"
    id="table1"
    var="row">
    What this does is if we have more than 10 rows to display it will display
    a table header that has a label 'Previous 1-10 of nnn' Next 10. However, when you click on 'Next 10' it produces a Javascript error.
    When we run the app outside of the portal we do not get this problem.
    I believe this is related to known issues with JSF and Javascript inside a 'framed' web page. But if anybody help me with this or point me to a resource that can help it would be very much appreciated.
    Many Thanks in advance.
    Chris

    Hi,
    I remember a similar issue with inner frames that should be fixed in JDeveloper 10.1.3.3. The problem was that the ADF Faces JavaScript did not get the correct document root.

  • How do I commit with JSF + ADF Buisness components

    Hello
    I following the Building Oracle ADF Applications: Workshop found at
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe9051jdev/ADFWorkshop/BuildingADFApplicationsWorkshop.htm
    Instead of JSP and Struts I'm using ADF Faces.
    I'm now doing the "are you sure" page where you confirm that you want to delete a customer. I've added a button to do the delete with the ActionListner : #{bindings.Delete.invoke} but I need to be able to do a Commit afterwards.
    Could somebody explain how this is done (I new to Jdeveloper, comming from a
    Delphi background).
    Thanks is advance
    Paul

    First, if you're using 10.1.3, I'd recommend the 10.1.3 OBE here so that you're following a JSF-based tutorial that corresponds with the latest-and-greatest 10.1.3 features:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/masterdetail_adf_bc/master-detail_pagewith_adf_bc.htm
    Second, there are a few different approaches you can use for invoking multiple actions from a single button.
    (1) The model-centric approach is to add a custom method to your application module that performs the multiple operations over encapsulated inside the AM, mark the method as exposed to clients on the "Client Interface" of the AM, then drop that method as a button from the data control palette.
    (2) The controller-centric approach would be to take your existing page, with the "Delete" action binding in your page definition that was created when you dropped the "Delete" action and...
    Insert a new "action" binding inside the "bindings" section of your page definition for the "Commit" operation. (By default, it will be named commit). Double-click on your (Delete) button, and allow JDeveloper to create you a method in a JSF backing bean (keeping the [x] Generate ADF Binding Code checkbox checked. Then, in the backing bean, you can find the "Commit" operation binding and invoke it after the "Delete" operation binding has been invoked. The backing bean method will already contain the generated code to invoke the "Delete" operation. You can just copy/paste that and change the name.
    There are other more generic approaches, too, but these two ideas should get you started.
