Contact names transfer in sync to new computer but not any other info-why?

New computer-trying to transfer contacts from iPad (and iPhone) to the Outlook on PC....the names carried over in the sync process, but zero numbers, email addresses, etc...help!

Answered my own question - sort of (and after some hours)...
Plenty of other threads refer to the how-to-copy-your-library support pages - in my case, I'd used this to copy an older iPod library to the new laptop and did not copy the iPhone library as well.
Copying the full library off the old library fixes the problem for the iPhone and I'm now rebuilding the music+podcast library to support the iPod.
Summary is that you must copy the library for the iPhone from old to new PCs. If you have another i* device, then you may run into the same issue as me...

  • Syncing with new computer, but want to same info

I am currently using an iPhone 4. I was originally syncing with our iMAC, but last week, I purchased a MacBook Pro. This is now going to be my primary computer and I'd like to use this to sync my iPhone, too.
I am planning on transferring photos and contact info to my new computer.
How do I go about syncing my phone to my new laptop without losing data?
Is there anything special I need to do?

Where is this 'Migration Assistant'? Do I need to hook up the computers?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3322
What about contacts? Do I just transfer everything over or will my iPhone do that automatically when I sync for the first time?
If you use the Migration Assistant, the contacts in the Address Book on your iMac will be available in the Address Book on your MBP. If not, before syncing contacts with the Address Book on your MBP, enter one contact in the Address Book on your MBP. The same applies with a calendar event with iCal on your MBP. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
Is it okay to transfer everything using an external hard drive? I don't have a firewire.
Yes. If your iMac does not have a firewire port which seems odd (your MBP does), you can do this with the computers connected via Ethernet, or with both computers connected to the same wireless network.
Or you can use the external drive to transfer your iTunes named folder from your Music folder on your iMac to the Music folder on your MBP as long as the external drive has enough storage capacity to store the folder.

  • Connection issues with one computer - but not any other computer or iphone

I have a strange problem…. well, really it is my friends/co-workers problem, but I am his sponsor so I feel I need to be there for him.
We are both school teachers - and to help us in the eduction of our students we have created a wireless network (hidden so we don’t get caught!) that we can use in our area of the building. We have had it for several years and we have both hooked up to it regularly using our laptops and our ipod touch/iphone. Just recently my co-workers computer stopped being able to access the internet through the airport. We checked the settings, threw out the settings and re-entered them. Turned off the airport, turned it back on - typed in the network settings, connected - but no internet. We ran disk utility and repaired disk permissions. We have even gone as far as to create a new user…. still no luck. I have shut down and restarted the airport at school, still the issue remains.
He can see the shared disk attached to the airport, he sees my itunes library, I see his - and the rest of the teachers in the school see both of ours (we are music teachers, so our libraries are rather extensive!) and are constantly listening to our shared libraries. We know he is connected to the network, he just cannot access the internet. However, when he plugs in to the network (same settings) via ethernet - there is no problem he gets right into the network.
We both have airports at home - and we both have no problems connecting at home.
There are only two things that have happened since we noticed this problem… 1) is Snow Leopard - we believe the problem started AFTER that upgrade. and 2) we just got a new iMac Lab (I am teaching a new class - Audio Engineering this year) and in the lab I put a legal Airport - but that one IS NOT connected to the school network at all - it just allows all of the iMacs to access the shared hard drive (easier than running cable). This airport (new one - two channel) sits between his office and the old airport (single channel) that we use to access the internet and school network. I don’t think this is the problem as I have turned off the “new” airport and the problem remains.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi,
Sounds like you had the same problem I had, which I resolved:

  • What if sync with new computer does not work. logical connection to old with WindowsXP, 32 bit version of iTunes. New is Windows7 with 64bit version

What if sync with new computer does not work?
logical connection to old with WindowsXP, 32 bit version of iTunes.
New is Windows7 with 64bit version

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in iTunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

Did you downgrade iTunes? What version is listed in Help> About iTunes?
If you don't have iTunes 10.5.2, download it from here -> http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  • Songs playing on one computer, but not on others.

I use my iPod on three different computers (Home/Work/brand new laptop). I recently upgraded my iPod from original 80gb to new Classic 160gb. Before I purchased my new iPod, I transferred my whole library (about 50gb)from my iPod onto my new laptop(using transfer software). Then when I purchased my new iPod I synced the whole library to the iPod. The problem is that when ever I connect my iPod to my work or home PC some songs have an exclamation mark next to them (and they don't play). So when I went to replace the "exclamation marked" songs from the laptop (where the whole library exist), I had NO exclamation marks. So my question is why do the songs play on one computer but not the others? Please help!

It looks alot like the problem we had when we couldn't resolve the CUPS server FQDN.  But the desktop and laptop are on the same subnet and use the same DNS servers.  I can ping the CUPS server by FQDN from the command prompt on both

  • "printer is offline" appears on one computer but not the other (both windows 7)

printer is offline" appears on one computer but not the other (both windows 7)

This is pretty common to see when your firewall kicks in and blocks certain communication paths the printer takes.
Here's a list of ports and programs that when allowed through the firewall, will restore communiction.
    Ports to open:
    UDP ports: 427, 161, 139
    TCP ports: 9200, 9220, 9290, 9500
    Programs to allow:
    hpiscnapp.exe
    hpoews01.exe
    hpofxm08.exe
    hposfx08.exe
    hposid01.exe
    hpqkygrp.exe
    hpqste08.exe
    hpqtra08.exe
    hpznui01.exe
    hpzwiz01.exe
SLP_Service (also known as UDP 427)
Have your security software provider walk you through allowing these items through your firewall.
If this does not fix your issue, it is most likely an issue with the driver configuration. Your router may have assisgned the printer a new IP address and this can be changed in the properties of the existing driver.

  • Why is home sharing showing up on one computer but not the other?

My homesharing is showing up on one computer but not the other! They are both under the same account and both iTunes are up to date. Unfortunatally, of course its showing up on the computer that I dont need it on. Please help me! Thanks!

It could be a firewall issue. Try disabling the firewall and see if that helps.

  • HT4527 did library transfer from old to new computer but some files can't be located

I did a itunes library transfer from my old computer to my new computer. However when I select to play some of the songs from my new computer I get a message saying the file can't be located. This does not haqppen on the old computer. Any suggestions that might fix this problem.
Both computers have Windows OS's and I have the newest versions of I Tunes.

It seems you havent copied the actual music files over.

  • Syncing to new computer, but what about my pictures?

I just got my new Macbook, and I am in the process of transferring my itunes library so I can sync my phone to this computer. However, I am worried about my pictures. Is there a way I can transfer them so I don't loose all of them? I have over 400 pictures on my phone.

If these pics were synced to your phone, they were reduced in resolution for display on your phone. There is no way to recover their full resolution. Your best bet is to restore the photos from your old computer to your new computer. If for some reason you are unable to do so, you can use third party software like this to extract them from your phone:
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/
Or you can email them to yourself. But bear in mind what I've stated about their resolution: it was reduced & is not recoverable.

  • IPhone4 sync to new computer does not receive new content

I have a problem when attempting to change the PC to which my iPhone syncs.
    i) Sync to old laptop fine - picks up music, photos etc.
ii) Change to a new laptop:
    - authorize this
    - transfer purchases
    - this fails on some apps e.g. BBC News, but not others. So download the failed apps on to the new laptop.
iii) Setup autosync for some test content - music, podcast, photos and a new app.
Storage bar at the bottom of iTunes shows what should happen.
iv) Sync - this gives the warning about using a new library and it'll erase the 'old' content. Select okay.
    v) Sync then removes the old content from the old laptop but does not add the new content from the new laptop. No errors. Storage bar reverts to current status, synced content tabs stay as I selected them (e.g. 77 pictures from a folder are selected in iTunes but no present on the phone).
    Hmmm...
Tried rebooting everything, tried switching to manual management and back. Nothing seems to work, so I cannot get music back onto the phone.
Everything else is fine, e.g. backup and syncing google contents etc.
I understand that the phone will only sync to one iTunes library.
Anyone have a fix or clue?
I've never done a restore, so don't know what might be broken thereafter?!

My nano original music was erased from my nano.  How do i download the music again?

if you had non-purchased music on your ipod nano and synced with a new computer it does an erase and sync as it can only be synced to one library at a time - if you have not yet done the erase and sync then you can google some kind of ipod extractor software to see if you can get the non-purchased music off the device - back to the computer - and back into itunes - good luck

  • No track or album name while loading CD on one computer but works on other

When loading CD (not a copy) to my itune library on my Dell computer all works fine. Loading same CD onto my Gateway computer - no album or track info shows up. Both are current Itunes versions. Thanks!!!

On the computer that did show the names, did you input them? If so did you submit the track names under the Advanced menu option? If you input the track names yourself and not submit it then the cd info will only be on the PC that you inputted the information or until someone else submits the cd info.
