Contact Oracle Database Development Team

Does anyone know of any email address where in we can send to Oracle Database R&D Team our suggestions and feedback etc.
I have been trying to find the contact info for a very long time. It is so difficult to find one.
Is it that Oracle is not interested in getting feedback or suggestions ?

In each book of Oracle you have a link "send us your comment". You can try this email address. You can also try on metalink.
You should figure out there are each year millions of bug reports, enhancement requests, problems, etc...
Ok, good luck!
PS: why not posting it here? we could interrested in your feedback ...

  • Oracle Database : "Developer" or "DBA"..??

    Hi..
    I'm from India & new to the Oracle Databases (currently a final year student, engineering).
    I want to know from the "Gurus" (Just a noble gesture, not the terminology thats used here) here, which stream/track should I opt for in terms of getting "Oracle certified" in Databases with a motive of increasing my credentials as a Fresher, i.e., getting better job roles & pay (short term as well a long term perspectives in mind). (Developer or DBA side)
    The reason I'm asking this (a probably stupid question, for some) is because someone in my college (whom I presume to be knowing at least more than me about this) told me that as a Fresher, Developer track is better as a DBA's role can't be granted to someone who's new (whether certified or not). But my interest is more towards being a DBA*.
    So, please guide me which track to go for --> Forms/(PL/SQL) Developer, 10g/11g DBA, or Both (in sequence please..)_
    (I may sound stupid to some, but please try and keep up with me; I'm just a noob & this is my 1st post here.)
    Thanks (*In Advance)..

    Srini is right for the long term, your acquaintance is right for the short term. In general, there are way more developer jobs, and the experience will help you if you see that dba is what you think it is in the real world. Since there is usually 10x more development than dba work needed, pure dba work tends to be limited to larger shops. Smaller shops don't appreciate dba at all, but having the skill in addition to being a developer makes you valuable.
    But always keep your eyes open for special situations.

  • Test-driven oracle db development with FIT/FitNesse

    Hi,
    I have just finished testing the first version of DbFit, an extension to Fit.Net which allows database developers to write functional and acceptance tests easily and automate them using FIT (Framework for Integrated Testing) and FitNesse, a popular Web-based test and collaboration server.
    Version 0.1 supports testing stored procedures and functions, queries and statements on Oracle DB.
    Source code, binaries, examples, and a short introductory guide for test-driven Oracle database development using FitNesse and DbFit can be downloaded from http://gojko.net/fitnesse/dbfit
    Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Sandra,
    Thanks for that.  I wasn't sure if there'd be a proper SAP solution or not.

  • Urgent : store and retrieve image to oracle database thru applet

    hi all
    i want the code sample for storing the image to oracle database
    development enviornment:
    server : oracle 9i , apache web server
    client : ie6 browser
    i am connecting to oracle database thru applet using oracle jdbc thin driver
    can anyone give me details about storing image to db
    1) what datatype should be used in table for image?
    2) my image files are on client machine... can i directly read those files from browser or first i have to copy those files to server?
    3) .gif files will do or what should be the fileformat?
    4) java code to store it to database (i am using jdk1.3)
    5) how to retrieve it back from database and display it in awt panel ?
    its very urgent ...
    i am doing some r&d and trying to do using blob....
    but it will take some time ...
    i will really be thankful if someone sends detail code....
    thankx in advance ....

    Hi,
    The code below might answer few of your questions.
    There is a restrcition on size of image, it must be less than 4KB.
    //Code to insert image in database
    //mytable is the table name that contains two fields in databse:name,image of type varchar and blob
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    Connection con =null ;
    Statement stmt =null ;
    con =DriverManager.getConnection  ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@<hostname>:1521:orclsid", "system","manager");
    PreparedStatement preparedStatement = con.prepareStatement("insert into mytable (name,image) values (?,?)");
    preparedStatement.setString(1,"Amol");
    InputStream inputStream = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream("C:\\WINNT\\Temp\\netscape\\images\\menubg.jpg"));
    preparedStatement.setBinaryStream(2, inputStream, inputStream.available());
    preparedStatement.executeUpdate();
    preparedStatement.close();
    inputStream.close(); To retrieve image,here is the snippet
    ResultSet resultSet = stmt.executeQuery("select image from mytable'");
    if (resultSet.next())
    byte[] image1 = resultSet.getBytes("image");
    FileOutputStream fos=new FileOutputStream("c://splash11.jpg"); //will retrieve bytes and create a file
    //by the name specified
    fos.write(image1);
    -Amol

  • Using Oracle Database Express Edition in development environment

    Hi All,
    I have doubt regarding the usage Oracle Database Express Edition in Development environment. I am not sure weather I can ask a non technical question here or not. Pleas forgive me if I have done any thing wrong.
    I am working in an IT company where we take up projects outsourced by our clients. As part of our current project we are making some modification to a web application used by an institution. Our client is using Oracle Data Base standard edition. Due to budgetary constraints of our Company we can not set up a Oracle standard edition data base in our development environment.
    So would it be illegal if we use  Oracle Database Express Edition in our development environment?  We can guarantee that  only our internal development team which comprise a maximum of 10 people will have access to this development database and this development data base will never be opened to our Client for their business purpose(Who have their own Oracle standard edition in their environment). As part of the project we delver only table DDL script and stored procedure to our client and they put it in their environment.The sole purpose of a internal Express database will be development only.
    Could some one please tell me if it would be violation of license agreement if we install Oracle Database Express Edition in our development environment.

    Hi Paul,
    Actually I have already gone through the Oracle Technology Network Developer License Terms for Oracle Database 11g Express Edition . But was not quiet clear about the content. It says in the license terms that "We grant you a nonexclusive, nontransferable limited license to use the programs for: (a) purposes of developing, prototyping and running your applications for your own internal data processing operations". Does the term "your application" includes an application we are developing for another company. Since the Express database  is installed in the development environment only and is not opened to any one else not even for Our client it definitely falls under the term "internal data processing operations" right?

  • IBM DB2 to Oracle Database Migration Using SQL Developer

    Hi,
    We are doing migration of the whole database from IBM DB2 8.2 which is running in WINDOWS to Oracle 11g Database in LINUX.
    As part of pre-requisites we have installed the Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.1 (4.0.1.14.48) in Linux Server with JDK 1.7. Also Established a connection with Oracle Database.
    Questions:
    1) How can we enable the Third Party Database Connectivity in SQL Developer?
    I have copied the files db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar from the IBM DB2 (Windows) to Oracle (Linux)
    2) Will these JAR files are universal drivers? will these jar files will support in Linux platform?
    3) I got a DB2 full privileged schema name "assistdba", Shall i create a new user with the same name "assistdba" in the Oracle Database & grant DBA Privillege? (This is for Repository Creation)
    4) We have around 35GB of data in DB2, shall i proceed with ONLINE CAPTURE during the migration?
    5) Do you have any approx. estimation of Time to migrate a 35 GB of data?
    6) In-case of any issue during the migration activity, shall i get an support from Oracle Team (We have a Valid Support ID)?
    7) What are all the necessary Test Cases to confirm the status of VALID Migration?
    Request you to share the relevant metalink documents!!!
    Kindly guide me in-order to go-ahead with the successful migration.
    Thanks in Advance!!!

    Hi Klaus,
    Continued with the above posts - Now we are doing another database migration from IBM DB2 to Oracle, which is very less of data (Eg: 20 Tables & 22 Indexes).
    As like previous database migration, we have done the pre-requirement steps.
    DB Using SQL Developer
    Created Migration Repository
    Connected with the created User in SQL Developer
    Captured the Source Database
    Converted Captured Model to Oracle
    Before Translation Phase we have clicked on the "Proceed Summary"
    Captured Database Objects & Converted Database Objects has been created under PROJECT section.
    Here while checking the status of captured & converted database objects, It's showing the below chart as sample:

  • Oracle SQL Developer  error - "The file-based source procedure Name is not present in the database."

    I recently started working on the Oracle SQL developer. I have 'select' privileges on the QA schema and when tried to execute proc in QA. It is giving the error as 'The file-based source <procedure Name>  is not present in the database.  Was it compiled?'
    instead 'you do not have sufficient privileges to execute this procedure'. Did research on internet but with no luck.What configuration changes needed to be done to make it work.Guide me.

    Sounds like you do not have the correct privileges.  What should have been granted to you by the QA user, or some other user with appropriate privileges, is...
    grant EXECUTE on "QA"."<PROCEDURE_OF_INTEREST>" to "<YOUR_USERID>" ;
    Note that a grant of execute on a procedure has nothing to do with grants of select on some or all of QA's tables and views.
    So, as Vadim suggests, from your connection node in SQL Developer's Connections view, if you expand the Other Users node, then expand QA and look in the Procedures node, do you see the procedure of interest?  If not, you cannot expect to be able to execute it from your userid's connection. And even if you do see it, you may have some other privilege that permits viewing but not executing, like...
    The role SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE
    The system privilege SELECT ANY DICTIONARY
    And even if you do not see it there, then having certain other privileges granted to you could permit executing it in general, like...
    The role EXECUTE_CATALOG_ROLE
    The system privilege EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE
    Also, note that the 3.0 release is a bit dated nowadays. Upgrading to 4.0.3 production or even the 4.1 EA2 (early adopter) release will, in general, give you a better experience.
    Best wishes,
    Gary

    You don't say what you have done to set up a connection.
    This error is usually caused by something like using the wrong host name, or port number.

  • Issues connecting to sql 2005 database using Oracle sql developer 1.2

    I just installed the sql developer and was trying to use the quick migrate to try a migration from a sql server to oracle..
    I am getting the following error message when i click on the retrieve database after entering the database credentials
    Status : Failure net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.driver
    I am getting another error message when i click on the 'test' button
    Status: Failure - Unable to find driver: net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.driver
    I downloaded the jtds driver from source forge and i am wondering what I should do to get the sql developer to make successful connections to sql server.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    I have the same issue with both version 1.1.3 of the SQL developer and the latest version(1.2.1). I have added the jar file path in tools->preferences->Database->Third Party etc...
    I got the jar file from this download: jtds-1.2.2-src.zip
    I get this error when trying to connect to an sql server:

  • Oracle Database Express Edition 2 Day Plus Java Developer Guide??

    I posted in the JDeveloper forum, as well as sending email via your feedback link found on the tutorial but I am a little disappointed by this:
    The Oracle® Database Express Edition 2 Day Plus Java Developer Guide has some errors in it.
    in Windows, I simply chose, start
    -> programs -> Oracle Database Express Edition -> Go To Database Home Page -> click documentation from the link -> and run the Oracle® Database Express Edition 2 Day Plus Java Developer Guide tutorial.
    the problem is there are mistake(s) in the tutorial, for example: section 4-19 is this:
    "The complete code for the method should now be as follows:
    public boolean authenticateUser(String userid, String password,
    HttpSession session) throws SQLException { "
    it needs to be this:
    public boolean authenticateUser(String jdbcURL, String userid, String password,
    HttpSession session) throws SQLException {
    Also:
    there is no mention that :
    the port and SID must also be passed in the
    ds.setURL(jdbcUrl) found in the authenticateUser() method, or an exception is thrown. This differs from value of the jdbcUrl string found in the getDBConnection() , which makes it hard to figure out
    The tutorial is great even if it doesn't work out of the box, but I am disappointed that errata or completed code for this project is not available, especially when you explicitely point to it via the steps mentioned above.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    The tutorial seems to be using the old JDeveloper 10.1.2.
    If you are aiming to learn JDeveloper then just use the tutorials linked from the JDeveloper home page.

  • Using Oracle Developer Suite 10g Without the Oracle Database

    I have never used Oracle, but have used MS SQL Server 7. I need to learn Forms. An Oracle salesperson suggested I download Oracle Developer Suite 10g (the demo product). It includes the Oracle Developer Suite (with Forms Developer), and many other programs.
    The salesperson said it includes a database server, but I suspect it does not. I only downloaded the package last night, and have begun to skim the documentation, but I see nothing that looks like a database server.
    In SQL Server 7, the database engine is run as a service and you create and manage your tables (do all the database admin stuff) using SQL Enterprise Manager.
    So, does this package include a database engine/server? Or must you also have the Oracle Database?
    I don't see a demo version of the Oracle Database - is there one?
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi,
    The Developer Suite does not contain a demo version of the Oracle Database.
    You can download the database from this page:

    EdStevens, thanks for your quick answer, sorry for my explain was doesn't clear, i open oracle sql developer and choose new connection i set connection name system_orcl username:system password:*i set my password that i create when i setup database*
    -Now the link that i got after finish install database is https://Ahmed-HP:1158/em so i have question about this point Hostname and port if the link to access database is this https://Ahmed-HP:1158/em so this mean i typing at Hostname:localhost and port:1158 ?
    because the message when i test connection always is filed and I'm sure i typing username and password and SID:orcl as i set when install database.port 1158 is what the dbcontrol (Oracle Enterprise Manager) is listening on. OEM is NOT the database. As far as the database is concerned, OEM is "just another client".
    Actually, the database doesn't listen for requests on any port. There is another process, the "listener" that listens for requests to connect to the database. Typically, it listens on port 1521. You should have a tnsnames.ora file set up to resolve a connection request to the correct host. You can read more on this at http://edstevensdba.wordpress.com/2011/02/09/sqlnet_overview/
