It turns out that the powerkey daemon wasn't the OS X process that monitors the on/off switch. it was a third party product that i'd installed in 2004. Don't even remember it. anyway it's a startup item that doesn't show up in the startup items list in the account pref pane. i went to /Library/StartupItems/ and found it. As soon as i removed the item from the startup items folder the crashing stopped.
Thanks for the help!

  • Kde daemon crash at startup. kde on Arch.

I just installed Arch the first time. after some unsuccessful attemps to with awesome, I tried to install xfce and kde. I managed to get both running without problems, but after further installation of additional packages (like amarok1, alsa, kile, qtoctave, stellarium, GIMP, Geeqie, Ktorrent, Kopete), the KDE daemon crashes at startup ad a kde crash bug report is displayed. I can't see any window content or windows any more, but other functionality like tabbing through windows or quicklaunch still works. I can get window content if I kill the plasma-desktop. (There also isn't any sound.)
I followed thou the beginners guide and also official installation, checked the archlinux wiki on KDE and others, googled. I can't figure out what happened.
    I'm running following Daemons:
    /etc/rc.conf
    DAEMONS=(hwclock @syslog-ng dbus netfs crond alsa @cups)
I start kdm through etc/inittab as suggested on archwiki kde.
startx runs fine, I suspect thou that I'm missing some xinit config files, but not sure thou what is needed as I start kdm through inittab.
I'd be glad for any suggestions or help! =)
    full /etc/inittab, /etc/rc.conf, /var/log/Xorg.0.log on:

I have a Lenovo X220 Laptop plus externalmonitor, which runs fine.

Problem solved. I reinstalled arch and kde desktop environment. everything works smooth now
thank you thou anyway for your help. I looked into ~/.xsession-errors , but there we're just too many error messages. I believe the problem was linked to phonon-vlc.

  • My finder app is in a continuous state of crashing

My finder app is in a continuous state of crashing and relaunching every 2 seconds or so, I can't open finder or time machine or my trash, as well as all of my desktop items are gone, I can still access the internet, but nothing online has helped me. If anybody has any solutions I would be extremely thankful. I'm using 10.6.8 . I have tried using terminal, or relaunching finder, nothing will work.

You may be able to start up in SafeBoot and then read the Log files in the system profiler area, to see what kinds of oddities may appear or if there is some kind of kernel panic, etc going on. And while there in a booted state with limited OS X sections off by default, you may be able to see such basics as if the computer's hard disk drive is getting full, or if Disk Utility gives you any error messages when you Check Disk, and while there, note free vs used capacities, status of RAM (including VM as it uses drive space as RAM.)
In the trouble and or crash logs, and basic running logs, Console is also a place to look, but there are very many; so this may be something to get into when or if someone who knows how to read the log file language sees your post and expresses a willingness to help decode them.
If you have a backup, you may have to see about using 'secure erase' from the booted installer DVD or if your computer has no optical drive but has a recovery partition, see about using that system's Utilities to access Disk Utility, and then choose the Erase selection. And that would wipe the drive, and overwrite zeros on the old data; failed sectors may be tagged and avoided, or repaired, in so doing the drive would be clearer. Unless the hard disk drive is failing.
There is a chance there may be something haywire, even corrupt/bad hard drive or bad RAM may act up, but Finder should not crash. There are related issues and ideas here, but in a later OS X version: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22273053#22273053
    Did you upgrade from an older system than 10.6(.8) or did that computer ship with the version installed? Some people upgrade over an older system and that effectively can carry a problem forward without resolving it. {edited}
    Good luck & happy computing!

I continue to get crashes from my Mac Laptop Maverick. I was running Snow leopard without any hassles and have now upgraded to Maverick. I get continued crashes, on start up or if I am running a program like GoPro to edit video or Firefox. What to do?

I have a fair few more, but all similar. about 35 more!!

  • I continue to experience crashes, audio glitches and poor performance since version 5

I have spent 2 phone sessions with tech support and unfortunately no issues were resolved.   As suggested by tech, I have repaired my permission in Mac safe mode.  I have cleaned out my media cache.   I have closed all other programs during editing.  I have upgraded to the latest CUDA driver and the latest magic bullet release.
Here is a list of ongoing issues since version 5.0.   The italicized issues are new to PP CC 2014
    (1) During playback, video will freeze and playhead continues to move forward.
    (2) Adding multiple layers of audio creates static and popping sounds like an old vintage record.
    (3) Skipped frames or lagging during playback of a fully rendered timeline
    (4) Saving can be very slow and sometimes take up to 30 seconds for 1 save
    (5) Very poor responsive times when loading mp3 or wav files into the Source monitor.  Playback delays before playback of audio.
    (6) Delays when rewind or ff of video material.
    (7) PP CC does not work well with magic bullet at all; constant crashing.   Magic bullet will not load the selected video layer *if there is more than 1 video layer stacked on top of each other.
    (8) Constant crashing during playback of clips with magic bullet effect
This is a long list to contend with so if anyone can offer assistance on just 1 issue, that would be appreciated.  I can't restart PP every hour; this is not an acceptable work flow.
thank you very much in advance for any assistance.
    Steve

I'm having some of the same issues since the update cc14

  • Gnome-keyring-daemon crashes when blank passwords are entered.

    Steps to reproduce:
    Install fresh Arch Linux
Install chromium, gnome, xorg-server, and xorg-xinit
    Put "exec gnome-session" in ~/.xinitrc
    Launch startx
    Open chromium
On prompt for new keyring creation, leave password fields blank and press OK.
    Witness gnome-shell crashing.
    What's supposed to happen:
It's supposed to prompt the user asking if it's OK to have unencrypted keys.
    What happens:
The gnome-shell crashes, and no keyrings or passwords were set or created.

Anyone got any tips to what could be wrong? It's infuriating to have it ask to create a new key, while it won't let me set a blank key.
Giving the prompt an actual password works as intended, it's impossible to set it as a blank password, even using seahorse.
It's acting as if something is wrong with DBus, but journalctl -u dbus shows no problems. as well as systemctl status dbus.
    Thanks for any help.
Oh yeah and attempting to use gdm causes the gnome-session not to launch at all. Since gdm created a key, I'm guessing the problems are related.

    I found an acceptable workaround:
Create a keychain with the same password as your account named "Login" using the keychain utility seahorse.
Follow the autologin instructions for console based login here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GN … at_Startup
    Restart X.
gdm still fails to start x though, despite the startx command working fine.
Uninstalling gnome-keychain works just as well though :u.

  • Outlook 2011 - MS Database Daemon crashes constantly

    Hi there,
We're having an issue with Outlook 2011 where the Microsoft Database Daemon will crash within a few seconds after launching Outlook. I've tried every recommended solution I've been able to find, from deleting .plist files, rebuilding the database, to completely removing Office and reinstalling. Even reinstalling OS X over top of the existing system doesn't work. My only solution thus far is to re-image the Mac and then restore from Time Machine. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate them. I've included part of the error log below. All of the Macs affected are using OS X 10.10.0-2 and the latest version of Office 2011.
    Thanks very much.

  • Workflow continue after system crash.

    Dear Workflow expert,
I have customized the standard leave request workflow to a 2 level approval  workflow. However, sometimes the workflow will suddenly stop without any error and I need to go to tcode SWPC (execute workflow after system crash) to continue the workflow.
Anyone can tell me in what circumstances that the workflow will fall into this category, because it like happens quite frequently.
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Bryan

  • Since I upgraded to iOS 6, the iapd daemon crashes a lot causing problems communicating with my Emprum Ultimate GPS device.  Am I the only one having this problem?

In the crash logs, the version number of the iapd daemon is listed as ???(???).  This doesn't look right to me.  I can post a crash log if anyone thinks it could help.

Unfortunately I don't have a solution, but I am having similar trouble.  On all my 3rd party GPS apps the GPS signal is very weak or not available.  Motion-X GPS, GPS Drive, Waze, Harry's Lap Timer.
The Apple Maps app seems to work however I can't tell if it's using GPS or cell tower triangulation.  Maps seems to be slow to recognize my position or motion.   In the Maps app the purple arrow appears in the top bar, I'm all other 3rd party app the arrow is grey.  Does that mean anything?
I've deleted and reinstalled apps, reset phone, no help.
    I'm using a 4s, 5.0.1

  • Gnome-settings-daemon crash constantly in xmonad

Until a few days ago i used openbox and gnome-settings-daemon. This worked flawlessly and i dont think it crashed once.
Then i wanted to try out xmonad since i read it was great. Since then gnome-settings-daemon have crashed constantly i would call it. It can work for hours or it can crash two or three times in an hour. I have tried to search for a solution but with no luck. There is no pattern to it. It can crash if i close gedit, firefox, digikam, etc.

    Hi instrumento,
There are two locations I am aware of in LabVIEW.ini that may be what you are looking for.  The neverShowLicensingStartupDialog token can be marked as true, at which point the batch licensing startup dialog will never be shown.  Additionally, the neverShowAddonLicensingStartup token controls the add-on licensing startup dialog.  When it is marked as true, the dialog will not be shown regardless of the state of any third party add-on licenses.
I would try changing the neverShowLicensingStartupDialog first, since your problem is with the Vision Development Module.  The token for addons may be useful if you experience this problem in the future with any third-party addons to LabVIEW.

  • Continuous Lightroom 5 Crashes

I have very very often crashes in LIghtrooom 5. Performance is going down very quickly after of approx. 5 minutes of usage of the programme. My library is not very big (less than 3500 images). I face the same issues in my other libraries which are significantly larger (39.000 images). It has become a nightmare, and I'm thinking to downgrading back to Lightroom 4. I can actually not work anymore. I did not have any issues with LR4.
Lightroom 5 usually stalls or freezes when I select multiple photos on the grid library mode (over 2!!!!!), some times it crashes and needs to be manually killed by taskmanager, or is also closed by windows it self. Othertimes it enters an infinite loop of freeze-defreeze, to no end thus I terminate it my self!!! Occasioanally (quite often actually, one every three times I open the programme) it crashes Windows 7x64 as well, and a hard reboot is required.
I have tried the ui.dll sollution with  no avail...
    Any proposals ??

    What is "Safe Mode"?
Safe Mode is a way to start up your Mac that performs certain checks and prevents certain software from automatically loading or opening.
Starting up in Safe Mode does several things:
It forces a check of the startup volume, just like the First Aid feature of Disk Utility. You may see a progress bar on the screen during this check, and the computer takes longer than usual to complete its startup.
It loads only required kernel extensions.
It disables all fonts installed by the user.
It moves font caches to the Trash that are stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/  – where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501 (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
It disables all startup items and login items in Mac OS X v10.4 or later.
In Mac OS X v10.3.9 or earlier, Safe Mode opens only Apple-installed startup items (such items may be installed either in /Library/StartupItems or in /System/Library/StartupItems). These items are different from user-selected account login items.
Taken together, these changes can help resolve or isolate certain issues that exist on the startup volume.

  • Dbus Daemon crashes during boot with ldap-client activ

    Hello,
I just configured my ldap-client using this howto http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HOW … entication. But when I restart the System, the dbus daemon hangs. It must have something to di with the /etc/nsswitch.conf. Wenn I change the settings to use ldap, I can't login anymore. As sone as I switch back to the old nsswitch.conf everything ist working. Can someone tell me how to get the ldap-client working together with dbus?
    EDIT
I just looked in the logfile /var/log/daemon.log on the arch client. I found this:
Jun  6 11:21:07 stkaw kdm_greet[5967]: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 4 seconds)...
I looked in /var/log/messages of the ldap server:
    Jun  6 11:21:07 fs1 slapd[6415]: conn=637 fd=34 ACCEPT from IP=192.168.123.3:58965 (IP=0.0.0.0:389)
    Jun  6 11:21:07 fs1 slapd[6415]: conn=637 fd=34 closed
So the client seams to find the Server.

I found out what it is, but I don't understand it. The server is configured to use tls. All other clients use the clientoption "ssl start_tls" in /etc/nss_ldap.conf. On the new archlinux the ldapclient woun't work with tls. As sone as I deactrivate this option the client established the connection.:/

  • Plasma Desktop Shell and KDE Daemon crash just after booting

    Hi,
these two are 'unexpectedly closing' right after startup. Basics are still working, but its anoing and not even the keyboard layout is correct. I upgraded my system completely right before. I tried downgrading of some packages, but it seems I didn't find the correct packages (tried kdebase-plasma for example). Any tips what could be wrong and what I could do to get it back working again? In which packages are these included?
    Many Thanks!
