Controlling Flexconnect AP's

Hi,
I've noticed that from time to time some of our flex connect AP's will join our less preferred 2504 anchor WLC instead of staying on the 5508 HA pair controllers. The 5508 HA (active/standby) pair are in the same mobility group as the 2504 to facilitate guest anchoring. However if a remote AP loses network connectivity for a brief period, when network returns they will sometimes join the 2504 and need to be moved back to the 5508's manually.
The process to move them back is usually as simple as doing the following:
In the GUI:
Login to the 2504 Controller >> Select the Wireless Tab >> Select the AP >> Select the High Availability tab >> entering the 5508 name and IP as the primary controller and applying the change.
After 60 seconds or so the AP will then move back to that controller.
The problem with this though is that the change is not persistent and if the AP is rebooted this primary controller setting is lost.
Is there a way to set this permanently for all AP's?
If I go to Wireless >> All AP's >> Global Configuration, there is an option to set backup controllers but no option to set a preferred primary controller.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Nick.

Just to add to Rasika post, if your 2504 is an anchor WLC, then how I see it, it should not ever have access points join.  Anchor WLC's should have a different mobility group name and also if not in the DMZ, then you should have Authorize MIC APs against auth-list or AAA enabled to prevent access points from joining that WLC.  This would be my preferred way.  If you have access points that need to join that WLC, then you either should add the mac address of the preferred AP's to allow it to join and have Authorize MIC APs against auth-list or AAA enabled, or you need to have the WLANS, AP Group, consistent with the HA's to prevent AP's from loosing their vlan mapping.  You need to prevent the ap's from joining the 2504 to be sure that the mappings will not get lost.

  • FlexConnect, EAP-TLS and dynamic VLAN assignments

I need to integrate Cisco ISE and WLC5508 with FlexConnect (local switching) using EAP-TLS security for wireless clients across multiple floors (dynamic VLAN assignments based on floor level). The AP model used is 3602.
    I have some questions:
    - What RADIUS Attribute can be used for dynamic VLAN assignments based on floor level? Is there an option where I can group all LWAPs in same floor for getting certain VLAN from ISE?
    - I intend to use WLC software version 7.2 since 7.3 is latest version. Has someone use WLC software version 7.3 without any major bugs/issues pertaining to FlexConnect and EAP-TLS?
    - I read some documents saying L3 roaminig is where the associated WLC has changed. However if user move to different subnet but still associated to the same WLC, would this be consider as L3 roaming too?
Can someone assist to clear my confusion here? any reference url for layer 2 and layer 3 roaming details is appreciated. Thanks

    I'll give this a shot:)
For radius vlan attributes, bothe ACS and ISE in the policies have the ability to just enter the vlan id in the profile. You can either do that or use the IETF attributes.
The RADIUS attributes to configure for VLAN assignment are IETF RADIUS attributes 64, 65, and 81, which control VLAN assignment of users and groups. See RFC 2868 for more information.
64 (Tunnel-Type) should be set to VLAN (Integer = 13)
    65 (Tunnel-Medium-Type) should be set to 802 (Integer = 6)
81 (Tunnel-Private-Group-ID) should be set to the VLAN number. This can also be set to VLAN name if using a Cisco IOS device (excludes Aironet and Wireless Controllers however).
You can find this by searching on Google.... A lot of examples out there
v7.2 and v7.3 I have had no issues with, with any type of encryption used. With 7.0 and 7.2, I would use the latest due to the Windows 8 fix.
Layer 3 roaming is what's going to happen if the AP's are in local mode. This means that the client will keep their IP address no matter what ap they are connected to and or WLC as long as the mobility group is the same. So a user who boots up in floor 1 will keep its IP address even if he or she roams to the 12th floor and as long as he or she didn't loose wireless connection.
FlexConnect you can do that. The AP's are trunked and need to have the vlans. So what your trying to do will be disruptive to clients. When the roam to another floor ap that is FlexConnect locally switched, they will drop and have to re-associate in order to get a new IP address.
    Hope this helps.

  • Besides CAPWAP, what other ports/protocols needs to be allowed for FlexConnect

Well the title says it for itself.
Besides CAPWAP, what other ports/protocols needs to be allowed for FlexConnect?
To clear things out, I am MOSTLY concerned between the communication of the FlexConnect AP to the WLC. Besides CAPWAP what do i need to consider? I need this list since most our clients have a firewall, and of course, i need to allow certain protocols and/or ports on the firewall so that the AP and the WLC can see each other.
    Any one knows?
As far as I know, I would allow:
    1. CAPWAP
    2. ICMP         -For reachability testing
on the firewall, to/fro the devices.
    Inputs would be helpful! ^_^
    Thanks in Advance.

    Thanks Scott,
Verifies what I need or rather request clients on what ports to allow on their firewall, since this is VPN connections, ICMP, telnet, SSH wouldn't hurt to be enabled xD
    A. CAPWAP
        PORTS:
        5246/UDP      -Control Channel
        5247/UDP      -Data Channel
    B. ICMP(Ping)                        -OPTIONAL/Reachability verification
    C. AP Remote Access          -OPTIONAL
        PORTS:
        22/TCP               -SSH

  • Multicast client on flexconnect AP

                       Hi !
Is it possble for a client connected to a flexconnect AP to use multicast ?
How do I enable that ? Will it be enough to enable Multicast VLAN on the SSID ?
Apparently it do not work in default settings.
My controller has no connection to the vlan my customer use for there clients. It is a pure
flexconnect solution were WLC only handles management to the accesspoints.

    Hi, Saravanan
The problem we faced is that Mac unable to discover printer via wireless LAN. Packet capture show that Mac2 sends MDNS query to 224.0.0.251 and printer sends MDNS reply to 224.0.0.251. But reply from printer is not coming to Mac2.
Yes, all devices are in the same vlan (vlan 199), see topology enclosed. Vlan 199 is also allowed on all trunks from LAP to WLC. Currently IGMP snoping and multicast routing are disabled on all switches.
WLC also have dynamic interface in vlan 199. AP manager interface is in vlan 101 and LAP BVI in vlan 124. Vlans 101 and 124 are being routed through L3 switch.

  • FlexConnect in double NAT situation??

I have 1242AP deployed as FlexConnect in my guesthouse wherein my guesthouse is connected to a wireless broadband (3G) that I knew giving me private ip address and most likely natted to a public ip. And then this wireless broadband (3G) is again connected to my home router which provide connectivity to my 1242AP. My WLC residing at our corporate office is configured that the management ip is natted to a public ip and my ASA fw is also configured to allow UDP CAPWAP ports 5246/5247. I can see my 1242AP in my WLC and I can connect locally switched WLAN without problem. Now the problem is in  the centrally switched wlan.. It seems that the WLC is dropping the client.

You need to maybe look at setting that AP up as an office extend AP since your behind a double nat.
    Here are some links.
    Q. Can we place the lightweight access point (LAP) under Network Address Translation (NAT)? Does the Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) from access point (AP) to WLC work through NAT boundaries?
    A. Yes, you can place the LAP under NAT. On the AP side, you can have any type of NAT configured, but, on the WLC side, you can have only 1:1 (static NAT) configured. PAT cannot be configured on the WLC side because LAPs cannot respond to WLCs if the ports are translated to ports other than 12222 or 12223, which are meant for data and control messages.

  • Latest FlexConnect

We have a customer that is seriously considering replacing their current infrastructure at all their remote locations with a FlexConnect solution. Their concern is if with the new FlexConnect, do the APs still have to pass all the data to the controller or is that now done on the remote locations edge, i.e. APs.
All the systems I have worked with previously the control traffic, etc. passed to the controller over the WAN nothing was done at the AP unless the WAN link went down. Just trying to double-check.
    Thank you in advance.

I persoanlly recommand to have centrel authentication local swicthing.....
In this state, for the given WLAN, the WLC handles all client       authentication, and the H-REAP LAP switches data packets locally. After the       client authenticates successfully, the controller sends capwap control commands       to the H-REAP and instructs the LAP to switch that given client’s data packets       locally. This message is sent per client upon successful authentication. This       state is applicable only in connected mode.

  • ACL mapping in flexconnect

    Hi
Anyone can help me plz? I have a WLC 8.0 and i'm using flexconnect local switching.
I have 3 SSID's with diferent kind of security but all in same vlan. To apply acl's i can only apply to vlan Id, but i have differents acl's for each SSID.
    Anyone can know a solution?
    BR

    Jorge Check the following
    Restrictions for FlexConnect ACLs
FlexConnect ACLs can be applied only to FlexConnect access points. The configurations applied are per AP and per VLAN.
You can configure up to 512 ACLs on a controller.
Non-FlexConnect ACLs that are configured on the controller cannot be applied to a FlexConnect AP.
FlexConnect ACLs do not support direction per rule. Unlike normal ACLs, Flexconnect ACLs cannot be configured with a direction. An ACL as a whole needs to be applied to an interface as ingress or egress.
You can define up to 512 FlexConnect ACLs, each with up to 64 rules (or filters). Each rule has parameters that affect its action. When a packet matches all the parameters pertaining to a rule, the action set pertaining to that rule is applied to the packet.
ACLs in your network might have to be modified because Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) use ports that are different from the ones used by the Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP).
All ACLs have an implicit deny all rule as the last rule. If a packet does not match any of the rules, it is dropped by the corresponding access point.
ACLs mapping on the VLANs that are created on an AP using WLAN-VLAN mapping, should be performed on a per-AP basis only. VLANs can be created on a FlexConnect group for AAA override. These VLANs will not have any mapping for a WLAN.
ACLs for VLANs that are created on a FlexConnect group should be mapped only on the FlexConnect group. If the same VLAN is present on the corresponding AP as well as the FlexConnect group, AP VLAN will take priority. This means that if no ACL is mapped on the AP, the VLAN will not have any ACL, even if the ACL is mapped to the VLAN on the FlexConnect group.
Note: This will give you clear idea How and what kind of ACL can be applied in flex connect mode.

  • Flexconnect Local Switching Hosts Do Not Receive IP Addresses

    Hello,
My WLC software version is 7.4.110.0. I have a branch office in my lab. The AP in my branch is configured as flexconnect with native VLAN of 700. The SSID that I have in the branch office is configured to do local switching. The show wlan is added below.
My tunneled SSID still working and I can still receive IP addresses from it. My issue is last week I have the Flexconnect working with no problem, then this morning I can connect to the SSID, but I'm not receiving IP addresses for my test wireless clients.

    Dear Gurus,
During creation of control cycle (LPK1), the fields for source information is not appearing in my system.
I compared control cycle in a different ECC system where source information is appearing.
How can make the screen appear in my ECC system.
    Please find the screenshots.
Any pointers will be highly appreciated.
This thread is further to the threads in Production Planning and LE/WM Forum. I could not resolve the issue with the threads.
Hope that I will get any pointer in EWM forum.

    Hello Malay,
Can first contact your ABAPer and ensure the bottom screen is not an Screen Enhancement?
If it is a some custom development, your ABAPer can help you on the logic behind it.

  • IF-statement in Personas that is checking if control is inactive?

    Hi,
I have this simple script in screen personas that is clicking the option: "Attachment list". Everything is working great if there is attachments.
If there are no attachments the option is "inactive" or "greyed out". This will result in a script error.
I thought this was going to be an easy fix by adding IF statement to the the script. But howerver I specify the critera for the IF statement the script will always try to click the Attachment list. The condition will simply always be TRUE.
Am I missing something here or is it not possible at this time to script an IF statement that is checking if the control is inactive or similar?
    Best Regards,
    Oskar Söderlund

There is another way, but it will get a little tricky.
Outside of the transaction IE03 you can check for the existence of attachments for a piece of equipment by looking in table SRGBTBREL. Field TYPEID_A will be "EQUI" and field INSTID_A will be the equipment number, zero-padded on the left to 18 characters long. Use SE16 to look in the table and you'll get the idea.
You could wrap this test in an RFC-enabled ABAP function and call that from your Personas script button. Use the return value from that RFC to decide if attachments exist or not and how the script should respond. Details for how to write such an RFC and call it from a Personas script are in this blog: Calling RFCs from a Personas script.
Like I said, this isn't straightforward and perhaps Personas scripting should include an active/inactive test in addition to the exists/doesn't exist test. Until then, however, there is a way if you don't mind a bit of ABAP programming.

  • ANY SY-INDEX REFLECT CHANGES WHEN CONTROL BREAK STATEMENT PROCESS

    Dear Guru's,
I have a requirement where i have to move the values to variable when control break (AT END OF) process. So i want to move the values according to the end of Vendor so for that  i want to know is there any sy-index available which reflects changes when Control break (AT end of) process.
LIKE Sy-subrc = 0 when select statement fetches record or sy-tabix is like counter for loop.
    Hope to get reply soon.
    Regards,
    Himanshu Rangappa

    Hi,
There is no system Fields for it.
But your requirement can be done with 'AT NEW' and 'AT END' statement.
    Refer this sample example,
    loop at otab.
        at new module.
          move otab-module to otab2-module.
        ENDAT.
          at END OF effort.
          sum.               "Do your calculations here
          move otab-count to otab2-count.
          append otab2.
        endat.
      endloop.

  • Using AiO Remote and HP ePrint to remotly control printer

    Hi,
With ePrint Home and Biz and the previous version of the AIO remote app, I was able to control the scanner and printer as long as I remained connected to the Internet.  In other words, I did not have to be within reach of the wireless network at home to be use the wireless features of the HP Office Jet Pro 8600.   I cannot find the way to scan or copy any documenta even if not at home.   All these could be done if there was someone at home who would be able to place the documents on the glass.
Is this feature available the HP connect and current ePrint?
    Thank you,
    Alvaro A.

    Hello traveler021,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Regarding your question about the AiO Remote app and ePrint when trying to scan or copy with the Officejet 8600, you have to be on the same WiFi network.
The AiO Remote app does not allow you to control scanning or copying over the Internet. I do apologize for being the bearer of bad news, but this is not available without being on the same network.

  • Lenovo AIO C440 - not working infrared remote control

    Hello,
is there any hint how to get infrared remote control working for a new C440 model? Tomorrow I will try to measure and/or replace batteries which could be bad. For now it is totally not working.
Another question: the remote should work only within AverMedia TV app or in the whole Windows 8?
    Regards,
    Zdenek

    hi bohdik,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
The IR Windows Media Center remote control is for use with C440 models with optional TV tuner. If you have this model,  make sure the TV Tuner driver and the ITE CIR Driver from the lenovo support site are installed under Device Manager (press Windows Key+R then type devmgmt.msc) then follow  the Set up a TV signal in Windows Media Center. guide.
    Note:
You must have Windows 8 PRO to enable Windows Media Center
    See this articles in reference:

    Hope this helps

  • Issue with Period Control 03 for Depri key MSTL with 6446

    Hi Gurus,
We want to use mid-month calculation for Dep. key MSTL using period control 03 (i.e. 03/03/03/03). We are also using 6446 as year-depedent Fiscal year (i.e. Jan and Dec 6 weeks other rest 4 weeks).  period control 03 is pro rata at mid period
    period 12 for 2009 start 11/14/09 ends 12/25/09
    period 1 for 2010 start   12/26/09 ends 02/05/10
as per period control 03 mid month is Dec-04-2009 (setup in OAVH)
When i acquire an asset on Dec-04-09, the dep start date is Nov-14-09 which is correct and all calculation is correct
however when i acquire an asset on Dec-06-09 the dep start date is still Nov-14-09 which is not correct infact it should start dep from next month which will be Dec-26-09 (This is 1st period of Fiscal year 2010)
As mentioned above we are using 6-4-4-6 fiscal year
When acquiring an asset with mid month concept at year end we are facing problem in depri start date and hence calculation.
The setting in OAVH for period control 03 are as below
FV   Period Control     Desc.                             Year   Month   Day    Period    MidMonth
    NL        03              Pro rata at mid period          2009    12        4         12           ticked
    NL        03              Pro rata at mid period          2009    12        25       12           ticked
    NL        03              Pro rata at mid period          2009    12        31        1            ticked
    NL        03              Pro rata at mid period          2010    1          15        1            ticked
    Thanks in advance

    Deepak,
Your period 12/2009 starts and ends between 11/14/09 ends 12/25/09. Now you acquire an asset on 12/4/2009. As per OAVH, you want depreciation calculation start mid-period. Then how is depreciation start date of Nov 14, 2009 for this case?
Then you acquire an asset on Dec6, 2009. This, as per OAVH, falls into period 12/2009. Then why should the calculation start from period 1/2010 for this case?
    Thanks,
    Asheesh

  • Jabber Windows - no phone control with LDAP Custom filter

I am unable to control the desktop phone from the Jabber 9.1 Windows client when the CallManager LDAP Directory uses a Custom Filter.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
If I set the LDAP Custom Filter to <none> and save, then Desktop Phone control works great.
If I set it to use my custom filter, then trying to enable Desktop control just gives me the spinning circle, then times out to the Red X symbol.
I do not need to resync the LDAP Directory to get the error, just enable/disable the custom filter and save.
In both cases calling from the Computer works great.
This is an On-Prem deployment with full MS-AD LDAP integration.
    Versions are:
    Jabber - 9.1.0 build 12296
    CUPC - 8.6.4.11900-1
    CUCM - 8.6.2.22900-9
I upgraded to CUCM 8.6.2 SU2 last night hoping that would fix the problem, but no luck.
The LDAP filter is one I have used in numerous other clusters with no CTI issues.
It allows me to sync to the root directory, but only import active user accounts with an entry in the ipPhone AD attribute:
    (&((objectclass=user)(ipPhone=*))(!(objectclass=Computer))(!(UserAccountControl:1.2.840.113556.1.4.803:=2)))
    Thanks, Randy

    Hi Randy,
Have you specified this base filter in jabber-config.xml file? As per Admin Guide:
"In some cases, base filters do not return query results if you specify a closing bracket in your Cisco Jabber for Windows  configuration file. For example, this issue might occur if you specify  the following base filter: (&(memberOf=CN=UCFilterGroup,OU=DN))
To resolve this issue, remove the closing bracket; for example, (&(memberOf=CN=UCFilterGroup,OU=DN)"
    Thanks,
    Maqsood
