Controlling Iframes with links in parent page (CS4)

OK, here's what i'm trying to do: I have a number of "calculators" for a home loan company, and I want them to show up in an Iframe (when the corresponding link is clicked) on the page instead of opening in a new window. How does one go about this?
Help a Dreamweaver damsel in distress?

Nevermind, I got my answer elsewhere. For anyone who wants to know:
When you declare your iframe, be sure to give it a name, like this:
<iframe src="somepage.html" name="myframe"></iframe>
Then in your link itself, give it a target of the name of the iframe:
<a href="PageToAppearInTheIframe.html" target="myframe">Link Text</a>
or simply define the frame in the target box while the link text/image is selected.

    AFAIK there's no practical way to do what you require.  Sorry.  This is one of the many downsides to Framed sites. It also makes bookmarking and printing pages difficult.  Not to mention user unfriendly from a web accessibility viewpoint.  Re-think your need for Iframes throughout an entire website.   The best websites use one complete page for each topic.  Index, About Us, Contact Us, etc...

  • FIREFOX 26 changed the 'post crash' page with the list of windows and pages. It was a real HTML page with links for each page. Now it isn't (and blows)

    * You changed the page that comes up after a crash - the one which shows the windows and pages that were up before the
    crash.
    This used to be a real HTML page and it isn't any more. THis choice was pure isiocy consider how peopel used that page every day (try taking to your users for a change).
    The pages listed on that 'post crash page' used to be actual LINKS (you could right click them &
    manually open them in another tab - and most peope DID that every day). You could also (and I did this a lot) drag a second
    copy of the page, into a new tab (to keep track of all the pages I had not wanted to open)
    Now the pages are no longer links. You cannot right-click them.
    The thing in the probser is no longer a page that I can drag into a new tab.
    Roll the version back and throw this one in the bin...and have a good long talk with your developers about the definition of
    'STUPIDITIY'
    Then I try to type anything in the addres bar it is suppose to repoond with the history of old things I have types in the past, or
    search for what I type (and in some cases I think it tyes to convert it intoa URL). However it no longer does any of these
    things. When I type in the ADDRESS BAR ONLY, I do not get all of my letters to appear. I have to type into a notepad or
    into the search and to copy and paste to go to a URL. Nothing that is typed into the address bad responds normally at all
    anymore, and I am fairly certain there are no new addons on this machine at all. It does not matter which things I disable. It
    still does this. W of course points the finger back at a change to FIREFOX. I wich I could just sitct with one stable release
    forever but the MOZILLA folk thing it is best to force peopel awy from a working broswer release to a horrible one (due to it
    being out of date).
    FIREFOX 26.0 has 'issues' (ie new *features*/bugs)
    1) History is no longer accurate. My Proof? This machine is the primary one for the entire family (the only PC working). It is
    logged in with same user every time and never has its history cleared. It now January 7 so I ought to have a list of all of last
    months browing available to me.
    However, according to FIREFOX history, in all of December 2013, the entire family only went to 51 primary URL's. None of
    the official TV sites I use to get episodes are listed. None of the official movie sites I use are listed. The primary URL for
    ebay is not listed. Only 1 out of our 4 weather sites that I use (at least once a week) are listed. Only 1 of our 3 FINANCE
    sites is listed. There ought to be several; hundred root URLs listed.
    Please fix history as this change seriously "blows greasy chunks"
    PROBLEM (a stupid change in the new FIREFOX version)
    FOr a long time, after a crash you got a useful page (a real HTML page) which gave you a list of all of your last sessions
    'winwos and tabs' that were open when the browser crashed. there were certain ways of using this page that are no longer
    able to be done.
    The old method was wonderful as it had this behavior :
    *** The old method for displaying your 'Recovered Tabs' allowed you to :
    a) right click an individual item and open it in a tab without getting rid of that lovely window of your previous session of
    'recovered windows and tabs '.
    2) drag the URL for the entire window of 'recovered windows and tabs ' to a new tab (to make a second copy) so that you
    could select just a few of them to open as a group, and stil have the old list handy.
    You can no longer do either of these things. The 'recovered windows and tabs ' page no longer has links in it and can no longer be dragged, so you cant select a few of them to use, and keep the rest around for later. NOW - once you choose which pages to open the window is gone forever (can can't get a second copy).
    People used to make a copy of the page for later use (with a drag)
    we also used to open pages with a right click (which no longer functions
    This new method seriously blows big greasy chunks. A parge loss in function has occurred.
    Put things back as they were. 26 is full of terrible changes that NOBODY likes. It also has a lot of bugs (history is not reliable at all)

    (1) Firefox's built-in post-crash page has not been a real HTML page for a long time (for example, from the time of Firefox 22, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968212 Want to save LOTS of versions of "Restore Session.xht" from the "oops ..." page for later use]). If you had this working differently with Firefox 25, that might have been created by an extension.
    You can check to see whether extensions are disabled or need an update on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom of the list. To poll for updates, use the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
    If you used the Reset feature (or Firefox automatically did a reset due to some problem during upgrading), you will need to reinstall missing extensions. The reset feature creates a folder on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you have that folder? There may be data you can recover from it.
    (2) There are many ways for history to get cleared, both internal to Firefox and external. Could you double-check your Privacy settings?
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Remember History: Firefox shouldn't be clearing history, but an add-on or external software could do it
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Use custom settings for history: inspect the "Clear history when Firefox closes" setting to make Firefox isn't set to clear history. Also check your add-ons and consider external software.
    Firefox normally accumulates months of history. However, some of Firefox's database sizes are based on disk space available. If your hard drive is very full, Firefox might reduce the amount of history stored.

  • How to add buttons with links to different pages in my flash document?

    Hi I created a template for my flash animation which is a simple content box and a scroll bar beside it.. Anyway at the top I also have 3 pages (they are currently just part of the png background image so they are not buttons of any sort).. My question is how can I make links to these different pages so when clicked in the flash animation they will just open normally like they would in like a website..
    I am a flash beginner so I'm not too technical with it... I don't know if I would have to create 3 seperate documents for my 3 pages or something else?
    Thanks!

    Do you expect the loaded SWF to load "into" the SWF that contains the buttons or are you expecting it to overwrite the existing SWF you're already in (similar to a web page)?
    Loading a SWF inside is pretty straight forward, as long as the SWF is on the same domain or the domain you're loading from has a crossdomain.xml policy allowing it and the SWF is set to publish with the networking sandbox:
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.events.Event;
    var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
    // listen for completion
    myLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, handleCompleteF);
    // usually add some IOErrorEvent or SecurityErrorEvent handlers here
    // button hook here
    myButtonInstanceName.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, loadPageF);
    function loadPageF(e:MouseEvent):void
         // try to load
         try
              myLoader.load(new URLRequest('another.swf'));
         catch (e:*)
              // catch any error, trace it to flash IDE for debugging
              trace("Error loading SWF: " + e);
    function handleCompleteF(e:Event):void
         // success, add to display list
         addChild(myLoader);
    Season to taste, like moving the position of the Loader object. The Loader will contain the SWF in the .content property (e.g. myLoader.content) and is a display object so you can just add it directly to the display list.
    If you add a second button you can re-use the myLoader to .load() a different SWF, just point it to a new function. You could re-use the same function but you'd need to detect the different buttons (possibly via the .name property). I presume you might want to do "different things" when different pages are loaded so I'm assuming you'd probably use a different function rather than make a huge reused branching function.

  • Control printing with ALTERNATIVE in several pages

    Hello all,
    I'm currently working on generating a PDF where each page needs to be conditional (ie user can print 1st & 2nd page, or 1st, 2nd & 3rd, or 1st & 3rd).  Altogether there are about 20 pages.
    The use of alternative + command with next page works great for the determining the print of the 2nd page, but I can't seem to get it to work the same for the printing of the 3rd page, etc.  I did notice that in order for the contents of the 2nd page to print, they HAVE to be placed in a secondary window, but I can't put the next page commands in a secondary window.  What I've tried is to have the secondary window first (with all the page content), then a main window (with alternatives & commands), but this doesn't seem to work.  (Also, listing main widow then secondary doesn't work.)
    When I add breakpoints, it seems as though the main window is never called.  (I can see the breakpoints in the F01 include, but they are never called.)
    Any ideas?
    Here's what I'm needing:
    Page 1
    - alternative 1 -> TRUE -> go to page 2
    - alternative 1 -> FALSE
    --alternative 2 -> TRUE -> go to page 3
    --alternative 2 -> FALSE
    ---alternative 3 -> TRUE -> go to page 4
    Page 2
    - alternative 1 -> TRUE ->go to page 3
    - alternative 1 -> FALSE
    --alternative 2 -> TRUE -> go to page 4
    --alternative 2 -> FALSE
    ---alternative 3 -> TRUE -> go to page 5

    OK, here's the technique I used to make this work.
    I pass a table with pages to be printed (PAGETAB).  In the main window, I loop thru PAGETAB and use it's value to use the layout for that particular page (grouped into a folder, with conditions).  At the end of the main window, I check to see if this the last page to be printed, else I use Command to force a page break (otherwise, 2 forms may print on the same page).
    Here's a sample of the code:
    Page
    Main window
    - program lines -> get total # lines in PAGETAB into V_TOTAL
    - loop @ PAGETAB
      -- program lines -> add 1 to V_LOOP
       -- folder 1 -> condition -> PAGETAB = "PAGE1"
        --- page 1 layout stuff
       --- alternative - if V_LOOP < V_TOTAL
    TRUE
    command -> go to next page -> Page
       -- folder 2 -> condition -> PAGETAB = "PAGE2"
         --- page 2 layout stuff
         --- alternative - if V_LOOP < V_TOTAL
    TRUE
    command -> go to next page = Page
    ... rest of pages

  • Load page in popup window with different (from parent page) browser

    Hi,
    Environment: Windows XP or Windows 7, Visual Studio 2010, Internet Explorer 8 (IE)
    I have an application which opens page containing HTML editor.  Here you can edit a document (pooled from db). Next, btnPreview opens a new popup window and shows changes you made via Internet Explorer (IE - default browser).
    Here is original code - works OK when you run from both - VS 2010 (http://localhost:50827/NCSite/MenuEditor.aspx) or via browser IE (http://localhost/NCSite/MenuEditor.aspx).
    Please pay attention - with VS2010 was used a dynamic address (localhost:50827) created by VS2010
    Here is a code I used for that:
    URL = Request.Url.Scheme +
    "://" + Request.Url.Host + appPath + URL;
    ClientScriptManager cs = Page.ClientScript;
    cs.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(),
    "NewWindow",
    "<script>window.open('" + URL +
    "', 'New')</script>");
    Now I have a request to add two more buttons to preview in Google Chrome (GC) and Mozilla Firefox (FF).
    I used next code:
    using System.Diagnostics;
    //for btnIE:
    URL = Request.Url.Scheme +
    "://" + Request.Url.Host + appPath + URL;
    Process.Start("iexplore",
    URL);
    //for btnGC:
    URL = Request.Url.Scheme +
    "://" + Request.Url.Host + appPath + URL;
    Process.Start("chrome",
    URL);
    //for btnFF:
    URL = Request.Url.Scheme +
    "://" + Request.Url.Host + appPath + URL;
    Process.Start("firefox",
    URL);
    It works OK when you run from VS2010 (http://localhost:50827/NCSite/MenuEditor.aspx)
    but when you open application via default browser (IE) and after editing document press btnIE, btnGC, or btnFF it is not creating a new popup window and simply replacing existing window
    and shows updated document via IE.  Processes for GC and FF not even started (looked through Task Manager).
    Is it any way to solve that issue?
    Thanks,

  • Create links to other Pages documents

    I am a singer and have been using a binder with all my lyrics in it for shows. I got an iPad for my birthday and want to use it in the binder's place. With each show the set list changes and I'd like to be able to create a setlist document in Pages with links to other Pages documents with the corresponding lyrics. The lyrics documents would be static; the setlist document would always be changing. The links in the setlist document would be like hyperlinks of sorts, except instead of taking you to the web, they would take you to other Pages documents in the My Documents folder in Pages.
    I've searched all over the place for a solution. I've even tried using spotlight to search for the lyrics documents as a workaround, but spotlight doesn't find the Pages documents. Is this something I can set up on my MacBook and then transfer to my iPad? Is there other software besides Pages that can do this?
    Thank you in advance!

    I think it would be much simpler to save your lyrics as pdfs and use one of the many dedicated music apps that allow you to create setlists. I use forScore (love it!), but you might also check out Unreal Book and Music Reader.
    If you have a Mac, of course it's a cinch to print any file to PDF. For windows, possibly the free version of CutePDF would work for you.
    EDIT I see you already have these printed out in binders. Just scan to PDF, then.

  • Apex in an iframe - only allow access from specific parent page

    Hi,
    I have a simple, unauthenticated Apex 4 application which lets users enter search terms and return records using a classic report. I wish to publish the application within an iframe, so that my organisation's communications department can maintain control over the rest of the page content. A side effect of this solution is that it will be possible for users to lift the application URL from the page source and reuse it elsewhere. I would prefer to avoid this, since I don't want our main website traffic to be diverted. Is there a way to restrict access to an application based on the parent page of the iframe in which it is embedded?
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon

    Hi,
    I'm sure there might be better way than this and this might have some holes , but anyway
    Create HTML region "After header" without template to page zero
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var u="my_ifarme_url_here";
    if(top.location.href!=u){top.location.href=u;}
    </script>Replace "my_ifarme_url_here" with URL your iFrame is located

  • Parent page changes after iframe loads

    I am using an iframe on one of my pages to include a shopping cart (Magento 1.5.0.1).  As is, everything looks and works perfectly in Google Chrome, but in IE8, once my iframe actually loads, it changes the font of my nav bar (the fonts are included at the top of my css file), as well as relocating where the text in my title bar sits (which I have height, text-align, and vertical-align all set in my css).  My iframe is in it's own separte div tag, and I can't figure this out.  My web page is: http://asc.pcassistant.net/merch.php
    My html goes as follows:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    <title>Merch</title>
    <link href="http://asc.pcassistant.net/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
    </head>
    <body>
    <div id="wrap">
    <?php require("header.php"); ?>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    document.getElementById("title").innerHTML="M E R C H";
    </script>
    <div id="content">
    <iframe src="http://asc.pcassistant.net/shop/" width="100%" height="1000px" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"></iframe>
    </div>
    <?php require("footer.php"); ?>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>

    I am starting to believe that this problem is due to my iframe's source's .css file changing my parent page.  Is there any way to contain that .css file to ONLY the iframe?  The site used in my iframe is my own site on the same server, the band just prefers to keep the header and footer the same, as well as the background images on the side, BUT, with the shopping cart, I have NO CLUE how to add all that in (99% of the files are JUST PHP, which I only have a basic knowledge of).  If I knew how to skin the shopping cart perfectly, I'd do that, but that's near impossible for me seeing as I've designed this website in a little over two weeks starting with only basic understanding of html.  How can I keep my shopping cart's css to itself in my iframe?  (http://asc.pcassistant.net/shop is the orignial source for the shopping cart).

  • Refreshing parent page from an IFRAME - javascript?

    Hi
    I have an IFRAME embedded in a jsp page. In the IFRAME, a user gets to submit a form, after which I need it to call the parent jsp page to refresh itself. The JSP page has a table with values from the database and needs to be refreshed to reflect the new form submitted to the database.
    I believe i'll need to use javascript for this, since I'm not using struts, or action classes.
    can anybody help out, with code samples? I've tried searching on google, but most examples are incomplete. If anyone has a link to it I'll be very grateful.
    Thanks

    well to refer to the parent frame, from the javascript panel I believe you can just access window.parent.
    so window.parent.location.reload() should do it.
    However reloading the parent window, will also reset the iframe. If you are going to reload the parent frame anyway, you could potentially submit to it instead of your iframe form by using a target="_parent" on the iframe's form.
    Hope this helps,

  • Report Row With Detail (IFRAME) - How to reload Main Page within iFrame

    Hi,
    Based on Carl's example - Report Row With Detail (IFRAME), i.e:
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:17
    Within my scenario, I have a button within the iframe section of my report that calls a pl/sql process that performs some database processing.
    What I basically need is a means of performing a page refresh of the main page, when this button within the iframe is pressed. In Carl's example, that would be page 17.
    As mentioned, I call a PL/SQL process within the iframe, but unsure how to then refresh the main page - parent page.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Tony.

    Tony,
    you could insert the following script to the region footer of a region located on your "iframe"-page.
    <script>
    parent.location.reload();
    </script>
    But this is dangerous because everytime the parent is being reloaded, the iframe is loaded, too. Risk of loop...
    A possible solution is to conditionally display a html region (with the script) on your iframe-page basing on a request. You could post the request as a result after your plsql processing in a branch.
    Regards,
    Jens

    Actually, I did carefully choose this forum as being the most appropriate since my question, or rather what I imagine the answer might be, will involve things like scripting and/or cookies.
    Would that not make it "dynamic" enough to remain here?

  • How do I return to the "parent" source after following a link in a page source?

    After following a link in a page source, I would like to be able to switch back to the 'parent' source. The only option I found is to close the source completely and open the page source once again. A "back" option would be useful here...

    Thank you for the fast answer, Tony!
    Apparently you misinterpreted my question (or I was not clear enough describing it) because my question has nothing to do with normal surfing. The back & forward buttons are present and fully functional in my browser.
    With "page source" I meant the information that can be reached by pressing Ctrl+U. Some page sources contain links to e.g. js scripts. When I click on such a link, indeed the source of the script is shown. At that point there is no turning back to the original page source where the link was in...

    hi.....

    Now, i want to render the edit page for the selected id in the parent page itself(i.e in index.jsp).
    Is it possible?...
    plz suggest me.

    I made some more adjustments, and this seems to work. I dont know exactly why, but: mates, i think we got this.
    I googled some code which helped someone to create cropmarks on documents with different zero points and came to this:
    set rulerOrigin to ruler origin of view preferences
      if rulerOrigin is not spread origin then set ruler origin of view preferences to spread origin --(spread origin/page origin/spine origin)
    set rulerZeroPoint to zero point
      if rulerZeroPoint is not {0, 0} then set zero point to {0, 0}
    --> Here I nested my code, the fetching of the coordinates (like set Y1 to baseline of first character in selection) and the drawing of the line.
    --> And set it back:
    set zero point to rulerZeroPoint
    set ruler origin of view preferences to rulerOrigin
