Controlling pxi 7350 using labview software

Hi,
So i am a complete newbie when it comes to labview having only used it to control virtual instruments before and now i am the point where i want it to interact with real world items. Ok so here goes..... i have the latest labview development software and have also purchased a pxi1033 with a pxi4065 digital multimeter and a pxi 7350 motion controller integrated within.
my problem however is that i want to be able to control my motors via the umi7772 interface but cannot seem to find the correct symbols on the labview software to utilise them, i would like to use labview to create a program that will turn the stepper and evaluate what is on the dmm and then turn accordingly this is way above my level on labview currently but if anyone has any ideas then any information is greatly appreciated.
cheers
james

Hello Jamest6,
I have found some useful documentation that will help you get started with you 7350 and LabVIEW.
First of all here is a community example that you can take a look at. It is possible to download the example itself from the bottom of the page.
Read Analog Input (AI) values from NI-Motion device 73xx : https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-5617
Then you can access these knowledge base articles for some more guidance :
How Do I Use the Digital Input/Output Lines on my 7330, 7340, or 7350 Motion Controller Card? : http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/2D238C3BF101620C862573A60081BFFE?OpenDocument
How do I control the analog ouputs from an NI PCI motion controller in Measurement & Automation Explorer?: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/04B940903BDD987C862579320083C6FF?OpenDocument
Also using these manuals for both prducts will be of help to you :
NI 7330/7340/7350 Motion Controllers and
P7000 Series Stepper Drives:
http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372324d.pdf
NI UMI-7774/7772 : http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/373359c.pdf
Another great source for looking at or using example VIs is the  LabVIEW's Example Finder.  Go to Help » Find Examples... When that window pops ups, double-click Toolkits & Modules in the folder list, then double-click NI Motion Assistant.  I'm guessing the "Straight Line Move.vi" or "Blended Move.vi" would be most helpful to you, but you could read the descriptions of each example listed for a little bit more information about what the examples are doing.
Hope these are useful!

  • Program to write signals from PXI 5105 using labview 2011

    Hello
I am new in using labview. I need help in writing program to continuously record the signals form PXI 5105 using LabVIEW 2011.  I prepared a program using help examples. It is recording the signal using pxi 5105 into the file after trigger. I tested the code using waveform generator with -100mV to 400mV, 1 kHz, sine wave. I have also attached the waveform of signal from the excel file recorded by the program. I have following queries
    (i) Is the program correct to continuously record the triggered signals. Have I used the while loop correctly?
(ii) why some part in waveform is missing.
(iii) What should be the value of millisecond multiple ( I used zero)
I want to use above program for strain gauge signal measurement. Where I have to record the data at 20Ms/sec sample rate for 1 milli second after trigger.
    thanks

    Hi,
Sorry but I've only got LabVIEW 2010 so I can't open your file. If you can post a 2010 version I can take a look.

If you are talking about the "Wait until Next ms Multiple" function then "Wiring a value of 0 to the milliseconds multiple input forces the current thread to yield control of the CPU." (from the context help for the function - press <ctrl>+h). Is this the behaviour you want?
Normally the ms multiple function is used to synchronise loops as it waits until the next multiple (be it 10ms or 10s) before continuing the loop.

  • Motion control: PXI 7350 controller and UMI 7774 to interface with third-party driver UDK5114NW2

    Dear community,
This is about Motion control in Labview: I try to control a step motor by using a PXI 7350 controller and UMI 7774 to interface with  third-party driver UDK5114NW2. The problem is 5 Disable LEDS on UMI 7774 board always lit even when I check "enable" on "Motion I/O setting" in configuration of PXI 7350 motion controller. Furthermore, when I start to control step motor, it is not working and I found disable LED on UMI board still lit. I don't know how to solve this problem. Can someone help me to figure out? Thank you in advance!
    Hau Nguyen.

    Dear Community,
I said wrong, 4 disable LEDS on UMI 7774 Board instead of 5 as my previous post. Why nobody help me to solve this problem. I can not turn off disable LEDs on UMI 7774 Board so I can not start the strp motor. Please help me!

  • How to control TTL device using LabVIEW?

I have a device which requires TTL (+5V) to control it to be on/off. How can I provide this TTL to it using LabVIEW? I guess I should install a PCI board in my computer to connect to this device, but how to do my LabVIEW coding to control it?

    Hi,
First of all if your board is NI board after corect instalation you need to view this board in the section Devices & Interfaces from the NI program Measurement & Automation Explorer.
Also if the board is NI board or has the divers for LABView you need to find in the LabView the functions to command your board.
Other posibility is if your board is no't compatibile wi NI, in this case you need to extract from DLL, the function to command the board.

  • Need to control waterbath temp using labview via RS232

    HI,
I am new to labview. I have labview 6.1. I need to control a thermo RTE7 water bath temp.  controler using labview.
The water bath has to be connected to computer via RS232 port and the commands have to be given via binary values.
The users manual for the bath has "hex" bytes that are to be converted
to binary values to be passed to bath. If anyone has done this before
or anyone can help me on this please let me know. Thanks,

Use simply the recommandations given in the RTE manual. You don't have to convert to binary : that's something done by the hardware.
For instance, to send the temperature setpoint to the controler, you have to send a byte string such as
CA 00 01 F0 02 01 2C DD, where CA 00 01 is a header specific to the type of serial link you are using,
F0 is the set temperature command,
02 is the number of bytes expressing the temperature that you are about to send
    01 0C is the temperature in tenths of degree (here : 30°C = 300 tenth = 010C$
DD is a check sum byte.
The corresponding labVIEW program is as follow :
Of course, do not forget to initialize the serial port before writing the string !

  • How do i open and control other programs using labview?

I'm presently trying to use labview to try to open and operate another program, but having much difficulty. The external program i'm using is called the Foundation program.
This Foundation program will use VHDL programming to create a virtual chip and then synthesising it.This program will then simulate the output of this VHDL program to verify that it is working as desired. Then the last stage is to download the whole VHDL program into a FPGA chip using a xilinx cable.
All this need to be done using a labview program - to open the Foundation program and then extract the saved file and then to execute the download command to cause the VHDL program to be downloaded onto the FPGA chip. How do i go
about doing all this? What is the first step i must do.Also all this have to be done thru networking..looks like its too difficult..I really need help.
    grays

I haven't done VHDL so pardon my ignorance.
LabVIEW can call external DLL via "Call Library Function" or C programs via "Code Interface Node", both located in "Advanced" function.
If your program is a DOS program, use "System Exec.vi" found in "Communication" function. If you need to format your DOS command prior to sending it, use the "Format Into String" function in "String" function palette.
Lastly, if you're trying to extract data, assuming it is text, use "File I/O" functions. If the data is binary, use "File I/O -> Binary File VIs".
Hope that answers most of your questions.

  • How do I control serial power using LabView?

I need to use LabView to alter the voltage coming from the serial port. Is it as easy as writing to the serial port? I know that if you write to the serial port that it'll produce a binary number, does this binary number correspond to a voltage.

If you want to create a scalable voltage value coming from the serial port you must have a Dig -> Analog conversion circuit.
If your goal is to vary a voltage from 1 - 10 vdc, then you must create:
    1) a an external circuit that will convert/buffer digital serial interfaced binary values to analog values (ni makes these things)
    2) labview code that transfers info to serial port. (driver/etc)
    hope that helps!
    did that answer your question?
Chances are if you have seen VI in the forest it hasn't fallen.

  • Data acquisition from NI PXI 5152 using LabVIEW

    Hi,
This might be really stupid question, I am new to LabVIEW and the Digitizer equipment. I was wondering if there are already any labVIEW based application available to read the data from PXI5152. I would be using both channels available and may be trigger. If there is no such application available, what would be port numbers I would be using for data acquisition. But, If I am to develop an acquisition software, I would be looking at every single specification of the equipment. I am assuming the output will be a digitized signal varying with the clock input, since It is used as oscilloscope. When working with labview how would I specify the port to read from and how would my PC recognize the port. I working on a pre-configured system and they won't let me unplug anything to check the configuration. Does NI provides a software to read into the signal fed into the channel and trigger inputs. I have tried looking into the different forum discussion but didn't find any that address my issue. May be it's too simple and stupid. But, it would be a great help if you could point out my misunderstanding.
    Thanks in advance.

There are numerous examples. Help>Find Examples> Modular Instruments>Ni-Scope. There is a test panel available in MAX. On the Measurement I/O>NI-Scope palette, are all of the driver functions includeing the NI-Scope Express.
I'm not quite sure I understand your references to 'port's. Once installed into the chassis, it should be listed in MAX. In the functions you will be using, there will be a dropdown menu that you will be able to select the scope resource name.

  • Control Micromaster Using Labview

    Hello
I am trying to integrate the control of Micromaster 430 into an aplication in Labview.
I use "Starter" and "Drivemonitor" with the RS232 serial cable directly to control the micromaster, but I want to control it with Labview.
Does anybody know a library in LabView to control the micromaster?
I have see the USS parameters, but I am not sure that I can adjust the paramerts of the speed.
    Thanks

    Hi
Yes, Micromaster 430 is a Siemens device. The problem is not making the serial communication; the difficulty is that the communication is carried out under the USS protocol.
I have some information about the USS protocol, but it is a communication binary data of variable size. I don’t understand entirely the structure of this protocol.
So I seek help, albeit in another language such as C
    Thanks

  • Controlling XY stage connected to parallel port using labview

    Hi,
I have a XY stage which I can control using mach3 software. I want to control a signal generator, VNA and the XY stage at the same time. I have programmed SG and VNA using Labview but I am having difficulties controlling XY stage using Labview. I have never controlled an instrument connected through parallel port using labview.
Can anybody give me some ideas to start with? How do I use VISA to control the parallel port? I really appreciate your help. Thank you in advance.

    Hi srms,
Since your question is related to using VISA, I would try posting your question on the Instrument Control Board. You're likely to have better luck there.

  • HELP!!! Using LabView to display/control Mitsubishi FX series PLCs

    Hello,
I am a LabView novice and have some questions around using LabView to control and display information from several laboratory instrumentation with a Mitsubishi FX series PLC. The communication protocol for the PLC is Profibus. What LabView modules/products do I need? Will I be using the OPC server and client to communicate to the PLC? Will I be using the device drivers? Is the device drivers the same as the OPC server. Will I need a profibus network card in the PC for Labview to communicate to the PLCs. Once again, I am a novice so please be patience if I ask more questions to understand your response.

    Hi,
The following thread seems to address a similar query:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=27248&requireLogin=False
To answer some of your other questions:
    1. You'll be communicating with the Mitsubishi hardware using an OPC server.
    2. This isn't the same as the device drivers, though it could be included with the device drivers you got from Mitsubishi, you would have to check that with them.
    3. I don't know if you need a profibus network card in your machine, again, you'd have to check that with Mitsubishi
NI do provide OPC software but I'm not sure if your device is supported. Check if it's listed in the following supported device list. If not you should be able to get an OPC server from Mitsubishi. According to the thread linked above they have one that's compatible with LabVIEW.
The software NI provides that can communicate with OPC servers is called the Data Logging and Supervisory Control Module. What LabVIEW software do you currently have?
I would advise that you contact Mitsubishi to make sure you have all the necessary hardware first. Also, ask them about the OPC server software. Then you can work on controlling the PLCs with LabVIEW.
I hope this clarifies things but if not, post some more questions.

  • How to create a software that has a 90milliseconds of inverval of execution using labview?

i want to ceate a software that will activate pulse generator instrument 90 milleseconds after i have activated power supply. i want to do it using labview software. thank you

In the Time and Dialog functions is a VI called Wait (ms). This VI waits the set number of ms before continuing. You may want to put it inside a single frame sequence to force data flow. (i.e. you have an error output from the previous function that you wire to the single frame sequence with the wait inside and then wire it out again to your next VI. This will force the "correct" execution order.)
If you are using Windoze, then you should be aware that there will be a certain variability in the timing due to Windoze multi-tasking (or at least what they call multi-tasking).
