Conversion of SQL to Oracle

SQL Statement
select count(emp_no) "TOTAL",
count(case when TRAISI_NATIONALITY > 1 then emp_no else 0
end) "PR" from staff_view
Oracle Statement:
select count(emp_no) "TOTAL", ?
from staff_view
Please suggest me how to convert the same....
Arun

This should work if all values of traisi_nationality are
positive:
SELECT COUNT(emp_no) "TOTAL",
       SUM(DECODE(NVL(traisi_nationality,1), 1,0, 0,0, 1)) "PR"
FROM staff_view If there may be negative values for traisi_nationality you will
need:
SELECT COUNT(emp_no) "TOTAL",
SUM(DECODE(SIGN(NVL(traisi_nationality,1)), 1,0, 0,0, -
1,0, )) "PR"
FROM staff_view The NVL function will return 1 if traisi_nationality is null,
otherwise it will return traisi_nationality.
The DECODE function takes a value to test (in this case NVL
(traisi_nationality,1)), and a
set of value,result pairs (1,0 and 0,0), and optionally a
default result (here 1). So, if
traisi_nationality is NULL, 0, or 1 then the DECODE function
will return 0, otherwise it will return 1.
The sum of the results of the decode will be equivalent to the
count of traisi_nationality > 1.
The SIGN function returns -1, 0 or 1 depending on whether the
value passed is negative, 0, or positive.

    2. The major purpose is to get a simplest way to create a parameterized function who can return a table like output. 2nd function has no use instead i was testing the result of First Function like thisIf you just want to select from a select, you should use a view not a function.
    1. which program is more help ful for writing and executing queries bcoz after using Query Analyzer of Microsoft It seems difficult to work on SQL Developer.
    sqlplus? If you are having difficulty learning new tools because of an old one you used, probably best to forget the old one and concentrate on learning the new one because it will be different. This goes for the database itself also.
    2. Can DMLs be used within a Function.Yes, you just can't execute the function in another SQL statement if it modifies data and this is a good thing.
    3. Can temporary tables be used within a function.Unfortunately yes, but they shouldn't be unless you are in a slowest application competition.
    5. Each Function which is a Table Function must be accompanied with Type Definitions?? its a bit longer way of doing the things than SQL ServerThat is why it is better to use views instead, is there any reason you want a select that you can select from inside a function?
    SQL Server for last 9 years thats why i refer this toolThat is not in itself a problem, if you try and do what you did in SQLServer in Oracle, that will be a problem though.

    I assume this is a simplified version of a more complex problem, since your second function would not return anything more than the first. If you want to use TABLE on a ref cursor, then you need to do some sort of intermediary transformation, such as using a pipelined function, as in the example in the link below. Also, this does not appear to have anything to do with objects, so should be posted in the SQL and PL/SQL forum instead.

  • Conversion from SQL Server Stored Procedures to Oracle Procedures

    We are having an ERP Package which runs on SQL Server 7.0. For the Reports and Transaction windows, we are using the stored procedures extensively.Now , we want to convert it to Oracle Procedures.Where can i find the resource for this subject.

    Oracle provides a tool, called the Migration Workbench, that can do an automated conversion. In the newest release of SQL Developer, Oracle's PL/SQL development GUI, the Migration Workbench is built in.
    Be aware, though, that there are limits to what an automated tool is capable of doing. In all probability, you'll want to manually adjust at least a handful of the procedures after any automated tool converts them in order to make things more efficient or to adjust logic that may depend on database-specific behavior. If you have code, for example, that assumes that writers block readers, that code will no longer block in Oracle, which might require re-assessing your algorithm. In addition, there are numerous approaches to developing procedures that are very common in SQL Server (the use of temp tables, for example), that while possible in Oracle generally aren't the most efficient approach.

  • DB2 to Oracle conversion using SQL Developer Migration Wizard - different schemas

    I am performing a conversion between DB2  to Oracle 11 XE, using the SQL Developer Migration Wizard. Specifically I am trying to migrate the DB2User schema over to Oracle.
    Using the migration wizard, when I pick the Oracle target connection to be the same schema ( DB2User schema ) the migration is successful and all data is converted.
    However if I pick a different Oracle target connection ( say OracleUser ) , I run into issues.
    Firstly , the table schema is not created. When I check the project output directory, the .out file has the following errors:
       CREATE USER DB2User IDENTIFIED BY DB2User DEFAULT TABLESPACE USERS TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP
            SQL Error: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
            01031. 00000 -  "insufficient privileges"
        connect DB2User/DB2User
        Error report:
        Connection Failed
        Commit
        Connection created by CONNECT script command disconnected
    I worked around this by manually executing the .sql in the project output directory using the OracleUser id  in the new DB.
    Then I continue with the migration wizard and perform the Move Data step.
    Now - the message appears as succuessful, however, when I review the Migrationlog.xml file, i see errors as follows:
    <level>SEVERE</level>
      <class>oracle.dbtools.migration.workbench.core.logging.MigrationLogUtil</class>
      <message>Failed to disable constraints: Data Move</message>
      <key>DataMove.DISABLE_CONSTRAINTS_FAILED</key>
      <catalog>&lt;null&gt;</catalog>
      <param>Data Move</param>
      <param>oracle.dbtools.migration.workbench.core.logging.LogInfo@753f827a</param>
      <exception>
        <message>java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist</message>
      <level>WARNING</level>
      <class>oracle.dbtools.migration.datamove.online.TriggerHandler</class>
      <message>ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    </message>
    I think what is happening is that the wizard is attempting to perform the 'move data' process using the DB2User id.
    How do I tell the wizard that the target schema is different than my source schema.
    My requirement is that I need to be able to migrate the DB2User schema to different schemas in the same Oracle database
    ( since we will have multiple test environments under the same database ) .
    Thanks in advance .
    K.

    Perhaps the following from the SQL Developer documentation is helpful for you:
    Command-Line Interface for Migration
    As an alternative to using the SQL Developer graphical interface for migration operations, you can use the migration batch file (Windows) or shell script (Linux) on the operating system command line. These files are located in the sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin folder or sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin directory under the location where you installed SQL Developer.
    migration.bat or migration.sh accepts these commands: capture, convert, datamove, delcaptured, delconn, delconverted, driver, generate, guide, help, idmap, info, init, lscaptured, lsconn, lsconverted, mkconn, qm, runsql, and scan. For information about the syntax and options, start by running migration without any parameters at the system command prompt. For example:
    C:\Program Files\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin>migration
    You can use the -help option for information about one or more actions. For the most detailed information, including some examples, use the -help=guide option. For example:
    C:\Program Files\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin>migration -help=guide

  • SQL Server Oracle If else differences

    I have a query in SQL Server 2008 that uses an if statement to determine how the SQL is returned. It is fairly complex but here it is in its basic form.
    declare @granularity varchar(20);
    begin
    set @granularity = 'Month';
    if (@granularity = 'Month')
    begin
    select count(*) as DisplayCount, yearstep, monthstep
    from MyTable
    group by yearstep, monthstep
    order by yearstep, monthstep
    end
    else
    if (@granularity = 'Year')
    begin
    select count(*) as DisplayCount, yearstep
    from MyTable
    group by yearstep
    order by yearstep
    end
    end
    Originally I thought the conversion would be as easy as changing the @ to :, adding a then and an end if. Not so....
    Can anyone show what the Oracle equivalent would be?
    Edited by: user497094 on Aug 20, 2010 12:51 PM

    If you use SQL Developer tool, you have a translator to translate T-SQL to Oracle PL/SQL language.
    For your example, you should get:
    BEGIN
    v_granularity := 'Month' ;
    IF ( v_granularity = 'Month' ) THEN
    BEGIN
    SELECT COUNT(*) DisplayCount,
    yearstep,
    monthstep
    FROM MyTable
    GROUP BY yearstep,monthstep
    ORDER BY yearstep,
    monthstep;
    END;
    ELSE
    IF ( v_granularity = 'Year' ) THEN
    BEGIN
    SELECT COUNT(*) DisplayCount,
    yearstep
    FROM MyTable
    GROUP BY yearstep
    ORDER BY yearstep;
    END;
    END IF;
    END IF;
    END;
    I hope it helps youi

  • MS SQL to Oracle Problem:  nvarchar's being loaded as null varchar2's

    If anyone has any insight into this, I would really appreciate it.
    I'm trying to build an incredibly simple Interface that mirrors a small MS SQL Server table into and Oracle table. The source MS table is a series of int, smallint, numeric, datetime and nvarchar columns. Similiarly, I've built my Oracle target table to be comprised of corresponding number, date and varchar2 columns.
    The issue is that my Interface runs just fine, but only the date and number-related columns actually come across. All the columns that are loading nvarchar->varchar2 are simply populated with nulls.
    I can't seem to figure out what the problem that ODI is having. There are no errors during execution, and back in Designer I can even do a "View Data" on the source MS table, and can browser all the data just fine.
    Something is happening during transit and I can't figure out why. My current LKM is "LKM SQL to Oracle" though I've also tried "LKM SQL to SQL" with no luck. Clearly something is happening with the nvarchar to varchar2 conversion, but that seems like a ridiculous thing for ODI to have a problem with. Even moreso that's it not actually throwing any errors, but simply not populating them.
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks
    John

    Dev-
    Thanks for replying. And that's funny, I think you were posting your comment right as I was posting my quick additional detail one.
    Yes, I have actually already tried that. I have set the LKM to keep temporary tables so that I could check the C$_... table. And the nvarchar columns are already showing as null there. And there are no joins in this Interface at all. It is a very simple interface that mirrors a single small source table, into a clone on the Oracle side for staging purposes ( A [MSSQL] ---> B [Oracle] ).
    So, because the C$_ is already showing nulls for the columns that were nvarchar, it seems something is happening in transit while converting the nvarchar to varchar2.
    Thanks
    John

  • Can we use Dynamic SQL in Oracle Reports ?

    Hi ,
    Can we use Dynamic SQL in Oracle Reports ?
    If yes please give some examples .
    Thanx
    srini

    I believe the built-in package SRW.Do_Sql is what you are looking for
    Example from the document:
    /* Suppose you want to create a "table of contents" by getting the
    ** first character of a columns value, and page number on which its
    ** field fires to print. Assume that you want to put the "table of
    contents"
    ** into a table named SHIP. You could write the following construct:
    DECLARE
    PAGE_NO NUMBER;
    PAGE_FOR INDEX NUMBER;
    SORT_CHAR CHAR(1);
    CMD_LINE CHAR(200);
    BEGIN
    SORT_CHAR := :SORT_NAME ;
    IF :CALLED = Y THEN
         SRW.GET_PAGE_NUM(PAGE_FOR_INDEX);
         SRW.USER_EXIT(RWECOP PAGE_FOR_INDEX
         P_START_PAGENO);
         SRW.MESSAGE(2,TO_CHAR(:P_START_PAGENO));
    END IF;
    SRW.GET_PAGE_NUM(PAGE_NO);
    CMD_LINE := INSERT INTO SHIP VALUES
                          (||SORT_CHAR||,||TO_CHAR(PAGE_NO)||);
    SRW.MESSAGE(2,CMD_LINE);
    SRW.DO_SQL(CMD_LINE);
    COMMIT;
    EXCEPTION
      WHEN DUP_VAL_ON_INDEX THEN
            NULL;
      WHEN SRW.DO_SQL_FAILURE THEN
            SRW.MESSAGE(1,FAILED TO INSERT ROW INTO SHIP TABLE);
      WHEN OTHERS THEN
           COMMIT;
    END;

  • Using a SQL for Oracle in Microsoft Excel Query

    I am having the most difficult time (in fact, I can't get it to work) trying to use an SQL I created in Toad for Oracle. It works fine in Toad for Oracle...gives me all the data I need. Note: I also tried creating this query in Microsoft Query (the simple way) and when I first create it...it works...But then if I go back in to edit the query, and refresh the query or try to Return data to Excel, it gives me a ORA-00936 error message.
    Why it works when I first create the query in Excel, I don't know. But I have to validate the queries I'm creating (SQL or not) and I can't validate it if every time I go into edit the query (which may have to happen; that's why I have to fix this before I can submit my validation).
    Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Okay, I know I'm replying to my own threads here...but I want to add a little bit more information again.
    I was successful in figuring out that changing the :criteria to a ? worked.
    I tested this on 1 criteria at a time. Adding one more scenario ? at at time.
    It only worked up until about 3 scenarios of each criteria.
    Then when I refreshed the query in Microsoft Excel Query, I got an "out of memory" error, and then it ended up just erasing the SQL I had been using.
    Here's the SQL I had where it gave me this error. Am I possibly just making Excel work too hard? It just doesn't make sense because Toad for Oracle handled it in like 4 seconds. Which brings me back to an intial question I had. Can Excel use Toad for Oracle somehow?
    Here's the code:

  • SQL to Oracle Migraton - Unable to create source model in Migration Workben

    We are trying to use Oracle Migration Workbench utility to transfer data from SQL to Oracle. when we start creating the source model we get the following error :-
    failed to load source model ora-01401 inserted value too large for column.. this is the error at the ss2k_syslogins table. this is a logical model creation from sql server db.
    In case if this is a data issue with the syslogins table/view, is there any way to overcome this or whether we can do any settings at Workbench Level to overcome this..
    Thanks in advance,
    John.

    I think I figured it out.
    1 - I used the Migration Work Bench that came with the 9.2.0.1 client - BAD IDEA.
    2 - I down loaded the OMWB (10.x) - GOOD IDEA. I also downloaded the plugins so that the versions would match each other. Get rid of any existance of the 'old' OMWB directory under the OracleHome, so as not to get confused.
    3 - I realized that you just extract the OMWB.zip file to the C: drive like some third world DOS application, so it won't show up in under your start menu.**
    **I find this kinda cheesy that the Oracle installer is not involved here to add it to the Oracle Configuration and Migration menu in start up. I suppose you can copy the unzipped struture over top of the existing clint directory structure, but still dumb.
    3 - The other odd piece, you down load the plugin as a zip (and not a jar), BUT DON'T UNZIP IT!! Rather place it in the ..\plugins directory, underneath wherever you unzipped the OMWB, and RENAME IT with a .JAR extension (again don't unzip).
    4 - Make a shortcut on your desktop to the omwb.bat file (from where ever you unzipped the OMWB product)
    5 - Fire up that icon and the product will look at the new .JAR in the plugin folder and 'tada', you have OMWB with your specific database plugin available.
    The new product didn't hang for me. Now I just need to figure out how port this into a shema name OF MY CHOSING, and not the generic OMWB_Login1 that it created.
    I f anyone has info on that, let me know.... I think its in the destination creation (step two of the whole process).

    thanks for your answer, but I asked to use sql loader instead of the external table, which so my question is why can not the epochtime converted to datetime, if there is no way to convert a datetime epochtime using sql loader, so I'm required to use the external table. thank you.
    This is my error log:

  • How to validate XML Digital Signature with XML DB (o PL/SQL) in Oracle 11g

    Hi,
    Do you know if there is possibility to validate XML Digital Signature using XML DB (or PL/SQL) in Oracle 11g?
    Let say I have CLOB/XMLType containing Digitally Signed XML, and I want to validate, that thsi is proper signature. I also have public key of signer (I could store it in CLOB or file or Oracle wallet).
    Is it possible to do?
    If there is need to install additional component - then which one?
    Regards,
    Paweł

    Hi,
    this is what i got from someone...
    but the links he gave are not opening up...
    u have to place a picture there and have to load the digital signatures as Jpegs on to the server to OA top
    and have to refer them in the XML for dynamically get the signature on the reports
    when u select the properties of the picture placed in the XML template,
    there will be one tab with "URL"... in that u have to give the path for that jpegs
    Pls refer the following documents for enabling digital signature on pdf documents.

    (Implementing a Digital Signature
    Is the BI Publisher installed on your instance of version 10.1.3.4 or higher?
    Pls procure a digital signature as soon as possible. The process can take time. OR we could use any certificate that you already might have OR generate a certificate using Oracle Certificate Authority for demo.

  • Embedded SQL against Oracle Question

    Software: Forte 3.0.J.
    Server Platform: HPUX 10.2
    Database: Oracle
    Problem Description: During the course of development, I ran into a
    problem using multiple columns in an sql UPDATE/SET statement. I was trying
    to update a.COLUMN_1 and a.COLUMN_2, which constitute part of the primary
    key of associative TABLE_A (a). In order for me to make the update, I
    needed to use the existing value of a.COLUMN_1 to lookup the new b.COLUMN_1
    in TABLE_B (b). Where a.COLUMN_1 = b.RELATED_COLUMN_1, I am able to find
    each b.COLUMN_2 that correspond to each a.COLUMN_2.
    I was able to resolve the issue by separating the two columns so
    that each had it's own select statement. Theoretically, it appears that
    this shouldn't work, because the SET statement for a.COLUMN_1 would cause
    the a.COLUMN_1 reference in the select statement of a.COLUMN_2 to be
    overwritten.
    In spite of this, I tried it, and it worked. I would like to
    understand why the sql works, and how sql actually executes the statement.
    Here is the sql:
    UPDATE TABLE_A a
    SET a.COLUMN_1 =
    (SELECT DISTINCT b1.COLUMN_1
    FROM TABLE_B b1
    WHERE b1.RELATED_CASE_ID =
    a.COLUMN_1 AND
    b1.RELATED_COLUMN_TYPE_CD = 'NEPHI'),
    a.COLUMN_2=
    (SELECT DISTINCT b2.COLUMN_2
    FROM TABLE_B b2
    WHERE b2.RELATED_COLUMN_1=
    a.COLUMN_1 AND
    b2.RELATED_COLUMN_TYPE_CD = 'NEPHI' AND
    b2.RELATED_COLUMN_2= a.COLUMN_2)
    WHERE a.COLUMN_1 = 100
    The table structure is as follows:
    TABLE_A: (primary keys are bolded) This is an associative table.
    Column_1 and Column_2 comprise the pk of one table; Column_3 and Column_4
    comprise the pk of another table. Assume that the Column_1 and Column_2

    If you do an explain plan or set autotrace on against this update statement,
    you'll find that the select operations are actually executed first by Oracle
    - I believe because of the nature of the transaction. Thus, no problem.
