Convert and merge pdf's. Automator?

I'm looking once again to see if Automator can help me with a project:
Ongoing task:
1) Convert Contracts in Word to PDF
2) Merge each contract with signature page
Either with some version of Acrobat, or some software specific to the task.
I envision a watched folder where these might be dropped, then automator would oversee the process automatically.
If not, any suggestions on what would work for this?

How do I check to see the pixel size or resolution?
You would need image editing software such as Photoshop.
plansman wrote:Or can I just use this software to merge Pdf files I already have converted with other sofware?
That's probably your best bet. Create the pages with the images to be the same physical size in a different application such as InDesign, use Acrobat to print to PDF (or in the case of InDesign, export to PDF).

  • How to batch convert .pages to .pdf  with automator & applescript

    Hi all,
    As the title states, I want to drag and drop one (or a whole stack) of .pages documents onto an automator app, and have it pump out .pdfs...
    Here is my code, it crashes with an error, but I'm really new to this so I don't really know what's going wrong.
    on run {input, parameters}
      tell application "Finder"
      repeat with aFile in input
      if class of (item aFile) is not folder then
      set {tName, fileExt} to {name, name extension} of aFile
      if fileExt is not missing value and fileExt is not "" then
      set tName to "PDFs/" & (text 1 thru -((count fileExt) + 2) of tName) & ".pdf"
      tell (get container of aFile)
      if not (exists folder "PDFs") then make new folder at it with properties {name:"PDFs"}
      tell application "Pages"
      set mydoc to open file aFile -- open input file in Pages
      export mydoc to file tName as PDF --do the exporting
      close mydoc saving no -- close the original file without saving
      end tell
      end tell
      end if
      end if
      end repeat
      end tell
    end run

    One more thing, is it easy to change that script so that the output is put in a subfolder called "PDFs" (the folder would go in wherever the .pages file was)?
    This should save to a subfolder called "PDFs" in the Folder where the pages file is located:
    on open fs
      my proceed:fs
    end open
    on proceed:fs
      tell application "Finder"
      repeat with i from 1 to (get count of items in fs)
      if (name extension of item i of fs) is "pages" then
      --set PDFfile to text 1 thru -7 of (item i of fs as text) & ".pdf"
      set PDFfile to name of (item i of fs)
      set PDFfile to text 1 thru -7 of PDFfile & ".pdf"
      if not (exists (parent of (item i of fs) as text) & "PDFs") then
      make new folder at (parent of (item i of fs)) with properties {name:"PDFs"}
      end if
      set PDFfile to (parent of (item i of fs) as text) & "PDFs:" & PDFfile as text
      tell application "Pages"
      set mydoc to open (item i of fs) -- open input file in Pages
      export mydoc to file PDFfile as PDF --do the exporting
      close mydoc saving no -- close the original file without saving
      end tell

  • Publications and merging pdf's

    I have a few Crystal reports and a cover page which is a PDF.  I want to merge them into one pdf with page numbers.  But I do not want to have the page numbers on the cover page.  So on page 2 to start the counts.  Is there a way of doing this?

    Thanks for your response. Could you please tell me is there any Adobe or adobe approved tool or software that I could make use of to retain Reader Extensions in my PDF after renaming of fields. Currently I am using Aspose PDF which allows me to rename fields and generates a new pdf once i rename it. But when i try to open it, it throws an error saying that "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact Author"and after that i am not able to edit and save data.

  • Convert different types of files and merged them into one pdf

    Hi, everyone. I'm girl from China.
    There is folder containing severl files of different types, like doc, msg, jpeg etc.   And I want to convert and merge them into one pdf following a certain order. I know that PDFmaker can do that nicely, but the problem is that I have like 3000+ fodlders that requires the same work.
    I want to do it with VBA and Acrobat. I have a Acrobat XI Standard Version and a perfect license, by the way
    And I have got the code(Thanks, Karl Heinz Kremer) of merging two pdfs into one, but how can I convert them into pdf first?
    Thank you very much.
    If I can finish this, I would like to publish my code on this forum.

    Wow, that's great news. But how should I add the Action?
    1. There is no action named "Covert files into Pdf" in the tools panel....
    And if I write Javascript code to do this action. How should I write it?
    app.openDoc({
    cPath: "/c/temp/myPic.jpg",
    bUseConv: true
    These code only works when I specify the path of the file.
    If you know how, pls tell me..........

  • Acrobat Professional 8 - dropping text from merged PDF's

    Hi

    The missing characters seem to disappear at random and aren't fancy fonts.
    It's damn frustrating & makes the resultant file useless.... can anyone help ?

    Would you be able to provide a link to the source and merged PDFs?
    I'm just curious why you posted this in the Acrobat Scripting Forum - how does this relate to Scripting in Acrobat? Don't you think you would be better served by posting this in the general Acrobat Forums, we're mostly scripters here (in the Scripting forum) and don't really deal with these sorts of technical issues - that is why there is a separate forum for those.

    How do I convert mail merge documents to individual pdf docs and save each with a field in the merge?

    Is this an actual field, or just some piece of static text somewhere? Either way, you can't do it using the Split Document command. You'll need to use a custom-made script to read the value of this "field" and use it when extracting pages from the file.

  • Convert doc to PDF and make it available for workspace

    Hi,
    is there a way, how to convert a doc file to PDF file and make it available for the workspace (accept - deny scenario)?
    Lets say, that I have a contract that has to be approved by my manager. I convert the doc to PDF file and send it to his to-do queue. He than decides if it is a good agreement or bad one.
    I see couple of tricks in this. First, the converted file needs to have process fields included, so it has to be a form.
    Converted file is a flat PDF. I tried to use DDX to merge flat PDF and form with process fields, however that throwed and error.
    Workaround could be creating an envelope saying, hey, look in the attachments section, there is something you need to review.
    I can create an attachment in the form with DDX code, however only in the DDX UI interface, for some reason, it wont work in the process in LC.
    Also, I have difficulties with routes after user hits the accept, deny buttons in workspace, nothing happens :-(
    Could you please give me some advices, what kind of variables I need, what types they should be and how the process should looklike? I want to invoke it over the WSDL so at least one document has to be passed over it. The envelope can be in the resources section in LC (makes sense, but I do not know how to address it in the DDX and afterwards)
    Thanks in advance,
    H.

    Hi Jasmin,
    I can add the converted document to PDF as a attachment to the XDP form in the workspace.
    I am strugling now with that envelope (the XDP), cant render it to PDF and than workspace enable it. I will have a look around the web because it will be there. One question is can I control permitions on the attachment? I want just read only permitions.
    Thanks Jasmin for your continuous help.

  • Merge data and a PDF file?

    Hi,
    I´m trying to render/merge data into a PDF file using FormServer (7.0) and .NET. I notice that if I use the xdp version of the pdf, FormServer will return a pdf with the merged data. However, I cannot acomplish this if instead of a xdp file document I use a pdf file (dynamic 7.0 created with livecycle designer 8).
    This works:
    String sFormPreference = "PDFForm";
    String sFormQuery = "ExpenseClaim.xdp";
    This doesn´t woks:
    String sFormPreference = "PDFForm";
    String sFormQuery = "ExpenseClaim.pdf";
    Isn´t it possible to merge data directly into a PDF using FormServer. I rather use a pdf file instead of a xdp file, because, a xdp file will need to be converted to a PDF file. Thus it will spent more time accomplishing the merge.
    Thank you

    Try using PDFMerge as the transformation.

  • Open URLs and convert / download as pdfs

    Hi there,
    I am conducting research and have hundreds of URLs saved as the .webloc (Web Internet Location) that ultimately I need to have saved as pdfs. Normally, I'm visiting the pages and going through Print and Save as PDF.
    I looked wide and far for a way to automate this. I found an Automator script "Download URLs as PDFs", version 0.4.2, but I can't get it to work. Maybe I'm screwing it up, but maybe it just doesn't work. It outputs Pdfs, but they are blank.
    As I have hundreds of webpages to get saved as Pdfs, is there any way that Automator can help?
    Please, anyone responding make your explanations / suggestions comprehensive and simple, if possible, as Automator is not something I've used much (neither Automator or the previous Applescript application), so it doesn't make much sense to me.
    I really hope there is a possible solution. I think it could help many people, not just me.
    salam,
    ian

    Sounded like it could be a nifty action, so I Googled for it since you didn't give the source. I found it pretty quickly, and discovered from the developer's page that 0.4.2 is for Leopard, though you've posted in the Tiger forum. And though your post indicates you are using 10.5.7, perhaps you're trying to use this action on a different computer with Tiger (10.4.x)? The developer's page indicates version 0.3.1 is for Tiger, so you might try that if that's the case.
    On the other hand, I downloaded it for Leopard and installed it. I, too, got blank PDFs when using the .webloc files. You didn't provide the workflow you were using, so I don't know if it's the same as the workflows I tried. Here are the workflows I put together:
    *1. "Get Specified Finder Items"* - I didn't actually add this action, instead I drag/dropped a .webloc file from my Desktop into the workflow and this action was added with that file listed in it. The .webloc I used was one I dragged from Safari's address bar for that developer's website http://scott.j38.net/code/ since it was there at the time.
    *2. "Download URLs as PDFs"* - I left all of the settings at their defaults, didn't change anything.
    That resulted in a blank PDF. Since you, too, got a blank PDF, is this what you tried? I tried unchecking the "Use Backgrounds", and I tried toggling the "Use JavaScript" in the Advanced section. I also tried various combinations of those two and blank PDFs always resulted. You said you couldn't get it to work, but not what you tried. There are other settings, have you tried systematically changing each setting, yet?
    I figured it might have something to do with the .webloc, so I tried other actions that depended on URLs and the ones I tried seem to work fine with the .webloc, so Automator likely was converting them properly. Nevertheless, I decided to try a different angle and use URLs directly from the Safari browser with "Get Current Webpage from Safari" in the following workflow:
    *1. "Get Current Webpage from Safari"*
    *2. "Download URLs as PDFs"* - Same as before, I didn't change any of the default settings, at first.
    I get a blank PDF with this, too. However, a couple seconds later Automator crashes without notice, that is, no wait cursor or other indicator, it just crashes a couple seconds later. Though, if I tried to do something in Automator within those couple of seconds, a wait cursor will appear before Automator crashes. A crash dialog appears offering to relaunch Automator, and when I create the same workflow and run it Automator crashes again, so it is definitely repeatable. In fact, a second dialog will appear offering to reset and relaunch Automator, but that doesn't keep it from crashing again with the same workflow. Something about the results from *"Get Current Webpage from Safari"* might be triggering something in the *"Download URLs as PDFs"* action. The *"Download URLs as PDFs"* probably isn't handling the URLs properly.
    At this point, I'd suggest you contact the developer of the action since it doesn't seem to be producing the desired results. Since you didn't mention who it was, you might double check to make sure who the developer of your action is, because it might not be the same one I found.

    i suggest if you are using SharePoint server 2013 and you have Office Web Apps available in your farm, then this feature will be there out-of-the-box without using any code.
