Convert CET to GMT

Hi Gurus,
I have a requirement where in I need to convert the input Date & Time in CET format to Date & Time in GMT format in the output. Could you please provide me with any ideas on how to meet this requirement.

    I am looking for a foolproof way to convert EST to GMT using Java APIs.
    I believe GMT is not daylight sensitive and hence, we cannot dependent on a constant difference all through out the year.
    Here's what I got in my mind.

    TZ only really matters when you're converting between String and Date, so use SimpleDate format. (It's in beanshell, but you can put it almost straight into java.) bsh % import java.util.Date;

    In my DB many tables with data date type column. But it has EST TIME ZONE DATA, but the customer what to change the EST time data to GMT.
    I have used new_time function but it is not working for daylight saving data .

    I am receiving the date and time in this format 310310153323 that is the date is 31/03/10 and time is 15:33:23 so how can I convert this into GMT +8 which can also handle the increment on the date accordingly? Thank you.

    1. Create a SimpleDateFormat using a timezone of UTC.
    2. Parse your string using 1. The output of that is a Date
    3. Create a SimpleDateFormat using a timezone of UTC+8
    4. Format an output string using 3 and the Date from 2.
    Other than that make sure that you undestand a Date ALWAYS has has a UTC value. Timezone only matters when you parse a String or format to produce a String.

  • Time/Date to GMT keeping in mind DST

    I have a servlet that gets the system Time/Date and needs to convert it to GMT(Greenwich Mean Time), it also needs to convert for DST(Daylight Savings Time) in the code. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Presumably the current time zone of the client is not GMT/UMT.
    So you need to create a TimeZone for GMT/UMT.
    Then you use that when creating SimpleDateFormat. Then the format method of that instance will produce a string with the correct (relative) time value.

    I'm running the following SQL against a Oracle 10.2.0.1 g server using Oracle SqlDeveloper 1.5.3 & then again using SQLPlus 10.2.0.1.0.
    I'm attempting to provide SQL that highlights the jump forward by one hour at 2am US/Eastern on 14th Mar 2010.
    In order to do this I've converted times from GMT into US/Eastern using the oracle function from_tz and to_timestamp.
    The following sql statements are suffixed with a 'correct' or 'incorrect' as to whether they correlate to what I would expect and indeed to the time returned from the World Clock website.

    However when I attempt to perform the same conversions except in reverse i.e. from US/Eastern to GMT I get different results.
    -- everything is fine up until the actual time of the change over (2am US/Eastern). With the 2:00am time though I would expect Oracle or perhaps even the SqlDeveloper client to indicate either of the following :-
    a) the time 14-MAR-10 02:00am US/Eastern is actually a non-existant time as per the WorldClock.
    b) that it's defaulting the time 14-MAR-10 02:00am to 14-MAR-10 03:00am US/Eastern
    instead the results proceeding the sql statements are output and for any time on/after 2am they are 1 hour behind their correct GMT times as per the world clock.
    I understand that there is a patch for timezone's from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4 that should address this, however, the reason I'm posting this is because when I run the above SQL in sqlplus against the same server I get different results except this time both conversions are incorrect.

    so it's as if the Oracle Client SqlDeveloper somehow intervenes as the results come back from the server an adjusts it for the first set of conversions but not the second.
    Basically it looks like I need the patch for the timezones for 10.2.0.1 but what about the Clients? Is there patches I then need for them? Would the SqlPlus client that ships with 10.2.0.4 return the correct results or once the patch is applied to the server.
    Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so would they be able to point me in the direction of a resource describing and resolving it?

    Yes indeed we are paying for Oracle support? As far as I know I logged in through metalink in an effort to investigate this problem.
    Our DBA upgraded from 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.1 and all the inconsistency went away thankfully.

    Hi Guys,
    I have to convert UTC or GMT DateTime to Australia Local DateTime Conversion (Melbourne, Victoria) and we need to consider Daylight Saving which starts every Year October first Sunday so Time difference between UTC and AUS Local Time will be 11 hours
    from Daylight Saving Start Date to Daylight Saving End Date which finishes on 1st Sunday of April Month every Year.
    Other that Daylight Saving Time Difference between UTC and VIC loacal time is 10 Hours. So Non Daylight Starts on
    1st Sunday of April Month every Year and ends on October first Sunday every Year.
    Note: On first Sunday of October Month at 2 AM, Our System Time moves 1 hour ahead so It displays 3 AM. Our Wrist Watch, you adjust manually and we make 1 hour ahead. So Technically Time between 2 AM to 2:59:59:599 does not exists in
    Melbourne and 2 AM means 3 AM and 2:10 AM means 3:10 AM Etc

    But I made a mistake When Storing data into my Table [DBO].[AUSTRALIA_DAYLIGHT_SAVING_TABLE]. As I have to Convert from UTC to Local So I have to Store data into UCT format but I stored into Local DateTime format and then I was getting wrong output
    for boundaries values.
    But once I realized, I changed the Table Structure and added column for UTC and LOCAL both

    Our data centers resides in different zones and we would like to store the date and time
    information in GMT format and it should aware of daylight savings.
    Which data is preferred ? Date or timestamp with timezone or timestamp with local time zone.
    Do we need to configure any parameter on the database?

  • Changing date and time is wrong with time zone problem

    Okay, searched some of the forums, but didn't get the most correct answer to this:
    I just imported all my photos into Aperture from iPhoto (chose to have Aperture manage files as I don't plan on using iPhoto any longer. When I imported the files, I decided to do some organizing by date into folders. no problem.
    In some of my projects, I found some files that I imported from scans or got from others who had a film roll and processed it at a lab, and the dates from those files aren't the dates that the event took place. I went into Metadata>Adjust date and time, and changed the date (not so much the time I'm worried about), and checked the "change the masters" little box, too.
    After I close out of that box, the picture has the wrong date. I've determined this is because of the time zone support. I currently live in Japan, and I would like my photos here to show up as the date in the place they were taken. I think the date I enter, it thinks is the date I'm currently in (GMT +9), but aperture chooses to convert the date as if I was saying "hey, the picture I took happened on "date" in GMT +0:00)" which then makes it look in the metadata view as if it happened a day earlier.
    Any imported photos come in as the correct date and time and correct time zone, as far as I can see. It's just when I change the date and time it thinks I mean to have aperture convert it to GMT + 0:00. (but on a little more of a funny side... older pictures that happened in other time zones back in the states it lists the correct date and time for when the picture was taken, but "says" it's GMT +9:00) (another issue I'll deal with later maybe!)
    Hope I've described it in such a way that you can get it.

    Hi there,
    I don't understand why the following little class produces the results it produces:

    I would have expacted seeing two times the same timestamp and two times the same formatted String and have no idea where the problem is. Please Help.

    Well, one of your conversions isn't handling the daylight savings hour conversion properly.
    Date date1 = new Date( timestamp1 );
    Will convert the UTC / GMT long value into a date object for your default timezone on your pc.
    Is your regional settings and timezone set up to German time on your pc ?

  • Time correction of camera and gps

    The time captured on Image by Camera [Nikon as well as Canon] is in IST. The time Captured in GPS-xml is in GMT.
    So when I want to match these two, I will have to convert them to same reference like this.
    1. Capture Image time say “imageTimeIST”
    2. Convert it to GMT say “imageTimeGMT” [Search for support in java.util.Date or Calendar class]
    You know that there is even difference between the two devices. We have found that the difference is approximately 6 minutes 7 seconds [find correct value]
    We need to give this correction.
    1.
    2.
    3. Compute this difference [I had given you times shown by all three devices at the same moment] needs to be done only once initially.
    4. Add this difference to “imageTimeGMT” so that this new time is comparable with GPS xml.
    5. Find out just less and just more records matching from the xml. [here SAX parser will be of help]
    6. Interpolate and find values for required exact time.
