Convert derived value to numeral?

Sirs,
I'm a Numbers novice with, what I hope, is a simple question. I have a table with cells that derive Their values from other cells via formulas (say as the SUM of several cells). How do I convert the value to a hard numeral so I can use it elsewhere and not carry along the formulas?

A cell in Numbers can contain either a fixed value OR a dynamic value produced by a formula. It can't contain both (although a fixed value may be part of the formula, as the last two examples below).
You can replace the derived value to a fixed value by selecting the cell, pressing command-C to copy the formula and its result, then going to the Edit menu and choosing Paste Values, either in the same cell or in the cell(s) 'elsewhere.'
If you are actually asking "How can I use the (dynamic) value derived by that formula in another cell?" then a a simple cell reference to the cell containing the derived value will make the transfer.
eg. Cell B2 contains the formula =RANDBETWEEN(1,100)
which generates a random integer in the range 1 to 100.
You want to use the same value in cell K12, a number that is larger by three in L25, and and a number that is smaller by seven in P17.
Here are the three formulas:
K12:   =B2
L25:   =B2+3
P17:   =B2-7

    Hi All,
    I'm still struggling with the same cube and this is my 3rd post and once i fix some thing the other breaks. Please forgive me. When i process my cube i'm getting the error:

    My question is when the error says column 5 (is it the column 5 in the DSV?) or is it the column 5 in the DIMENSION list?
    My next question is the DSV Query works perfectly fine , so why this error in cube? This is what i have in the query in DSV.
    Please need help. In the below query both the column 5 (ArEASSIGNED TO VENDOR) in the CUBE and underlying table have the same data type and length VARCHAR(4000). Why is the process failing still?

    I just counted the columns from the top:
    1) compliancejoin, 2) mowingsector, 3) caseclosedflag, 4) casehasvendorinfo, 5) mowingstatus, 6) assignedtovendor.
    I see now that your subject line talks about column 6, but you say column 5 in body of your original post.
    I don't know anything about cubes, but apparently there is some mapping problem when you run it from SSAS. (I assume it is SSAS, a part of the product I'm entirely ignorant of.) I figured that if you had got tripped by the zero-based numbering, you
    might be staring on the wrong column.

    Hi All,
    I'm still struggling with the same cube and this is my 3rd post and once i fix some thing the other breaks. Please forgive me. When i process my cube i'm getting the error:
    Errors in the back-end database access module. OLE DB was unable to convert a value to the data type requested for column 5.
    My question is when the error says column 5 (is it the column 5 in the DSV?) or is it the column 5 in the DIMENSION list?
    My next question is the DSV Query works perfectly fine , so why this error in cube? This is what i have in the query in DSV.
    Please need help. In the below query both the column 5 (ArEASSIGNED TO VENDOR) in the CUBE and underlying table have the same data type and length VARCHAR(4000). Why is the process failing still?

    I just counted the columns from the top:

    I see now that your subject line talks about column 6, but you say column 5 in body of your original post.
    I don't know anything about cubes, but apparently there is some mapping problem when you run it from SSAS. (I assume it is SSAS, a part of the product I'm entirely ignorant of.) I figured that if you had got tripped by the zero-based numbering, you
    might be staring on the wrong column.

  • How to make a select list to return value to numeric column?

    I do have a select list with static values (STATIC:01;0,02;1,03;2,04;3,05;4,06;5,07;6,08;7,09;8,10;9). The problem is that I am returning a value to a numeric column. Therefore I have set 'Post Calculation Computation' as "to_number(:P73_MRGRATING, 9);" however I am getting ORA-01722: invalid number. How, (or when and where) to properly convert a character from a select list representing a numeric value into column of NUMBER data type?

    It is because I am not able convert a value in a page item (:P73_ID) to number. On a page before, I have assigned a value to an application item (APPL_ID). On page 73, I want to assign the value in APPL_ID to the page item P73_ID . The value assigned to APP_ID is numeric. On a page 73 I also have a computation in Page processing section. It is an 'After Submit' processing of a static assignment of application item APPL_ID to page item P73_ID. Unfortunately it does not work. (ORA-01722: invalid number). I have tested this also with a 'Post Calculation Computation' on page item P73_ID (to_number(:P73_ID, 9999999999);) and I am still getting ORA... error. Only way I can make it work is to create a page item P73_ID as a text field, then when I run page 73 and enter a value into P73_ID manually - then it works and I can save the values from the form into database...
    The strange thing is that I am using application item APPL_ID on a couple of pages, in where clauses and it always works, even when I am comparing APPL_ID against a numeric value like select * from a_table where some_number = :APPL_ID, this works. But when I would like to create an entry form and assign application item APPL_ID to the page item P73_ID that is referencing a numeric table column – then I am getting ORA-01722…
    Is there any application (sample application) that is doing this and it works so I can check it and learn how to create this process appropriately?

    iam calling an RFC using SAP_JCO_Function. one of the input parameters is date which shud be in the format 'MM/DD/YYYY' but when i create a transaction property of data type DATETIME the format changes to " 2007-06-21 14:31:50 ". to refrain form passing this value at run time i have defined the transaction property as string and defaulted the value to MM/DD/YYYY.
    When i execute the RFC i get the error "Cannot convert a value of 'MM/DD/YYYY' from type java.l".
    Issue is with time field as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    You can use datefromxmlformat( datetime, toformat ) .
    in toformat you give: "MM/dd/yyyy" and in datetime you pass your xml format date like: 2007-06-21 T14:31:50.

  • Convert data values in columns to another value based on a math formula

    ISSUE:
    I have a database of emergency incidents with descriptive data and longitude and
    latitude. I would like to make a google map out of the information but unfortunately
    the X Y coordinates are projected in Florida State Plane West in feet. Google maps
    requires WGS84 longitude and latitude in decimal degrees.
    PROBLEM:
    I have written some code in Transact SQL that will convert the values. But I am at a loss as to how to do the following:
    1.) plug in the X Y values from my database using an sql SELECT statement.
    2.) apply the formula to convert from State Plane to WGS84 to these X Y values
    3.) output the results.
    In other words, I have the data and I have the formula, but I am not figuring out how to plug the data into the formula and output the results. I am missing how to tie it all together.

    Notice that each subsequent CROSS APPLY depends on a "working value" column being defined in some previous cross apply, or the working query.  There are a few other options, such as leaving off the very last Cross Apply, and computing Longitude as part
    of the main query at the beginning, but it works either way.
    EDIT: P.S. - By the way, this query is based on the formula in the original poster's query.  My formula matches that formula, and I bet it's right (as far as the lat/long conversion), but it could be the formula for Soylent Green, and I wouldn't know any
    better... :-)

  • ORA-6502: value or numeric error

    First off all, I am not very good in PL/SQL so please bear with me:
    I have a trigger on a table on after update event. Sample code of the trigger:

    This trigger throws an error saying "ORA-6502: value or numeric error" if I am trying to update anything into that table but the same trigger works fine when I remove "FOR EACH ROW" statement from the trigger. There is absolutely no change except removal of FOR EACH ROW clause.
    I am unable to figure out why. Do anybody?

    Again, let me rephrase my question in one single line:
    bold Why does the trigger without FOR EACH ROW works and doesnt work with FOR EACH ROW?
    What I am guessing is , it might be because of the array what we are using inside the trigger. But its just a guess. One more thing to note here, same code with and without FOR EACH ROW works when I am not using any arrays inside the trigger and thats what is the question. WHY cant same code works when used with FOR EACH ROW when arrays are used inside the trigger.
    I am not requesting anybody to write code for me or rectify the problems in the code. All I am interested in is the reason of trigger not working with FOR EACH ROW when arrays are used inside the trigger.

    Hello,
    I am trying to figure out how to connect a single user's input string value to numerical values. Basically I want the user to input the name of a gas that I have a list for (I believe i put the list of gasses in an array>). Then I want to match 2 numerical values "a" and "b" depending on which gas name the user has put in. These "a" and "b" values will be automatically matched with the gas name from a list I put. For example the gas hydrogen has a value of 3 for "a" and 4 for "b. so when the user puts the name "hydrogen" in a string constant, automatically  "a" and "b" should be outputted. I will be connecting a and b to a formula

    This sounds a lot like an Enum to me.  Make sure you type def the enum to make sure updates quickly and easily make it to all copies of the enums.
