Convert rectangle to editable Path?

How do I create a rectangle of my desired size/shape and position as a Shape Layer then convert it to an editable Path?

Here's the deal. If your vertex is exactly on 30, 30 and the second is at 30, 100 and you stroke is 1 pixel wide and black then the stroke will be sub pixel interpreted and displayed as a gray line 2 pixels wide covering the area of 29 - 30, 29 - 30 and 29 - 30, 100 - 101. To get the vertex position and the generated stroke to exactly line up the coordinates of the vertex will need to be 30.5, 30.5 and 30.5, 99.5. You can do this by observing the info panel while dragging things around while the comp window is zoomed in to 800 or 1600%.
If you are filling a rectangle then whole pixel values are going to work for the vertex placement.
AE can snap to grid and snap to guides. You can set the grid up in the preferences. You could set grid spacing to 2 pixels with 3 sub devisions to give you the half pixel guide you need for stroked lines or 1 even 1 pixel and 2 sub divisions if you would like, then alt/option click and drag to your hearts content.
I didn't mean to imply that there were not times when sub pixel accuracy was important. Quite the opposite. Rolling titles with thin fonts is entirely possible in video if you set things up correctly but your design must comply with rules of motion. Had you stated in the first question that you were trying to create a ui for a mobile device (sorry I don't keep track of all the threads and can't remember that you asked abut UI design in other threads) your question could have been better answered the first time by referring to the grid setup I just told you about.
I've done at least a dozen UI designs in AE for mobile devices and have never had a problem using layout grids. Most of my work for UI's has started in Photoshop. You can, by the way, copy a path in Photoshop and paste it to a shape layer path in AE...
Good luck with your design.

I can't imagine any worse workflow than converting to JPEG to edit text, then back to PDF. Text in a PDF is a vector thing, smooth at all resolutions. And JPEG is made for photos. EVERY conversion to JPEG and back loses quality but how much loss there is will vary.
If you must go to an image format, try PNG.

  • Photoshop CC 14.1 editing paths on multiple layers disabled?

Has editing paths on multiple layers with the direct selection tool been disabled in Photoshop CC 14.1? I can't seem to figure out how to do it now, shift- or command-clicking doesn't do anything. In fact, I can't even click to select individual paths on different layers, something that Photoshop has had forever.
While it was at times problematic the way it was in 14.0 (always selecting multiple layers and having to go into isolation mode to edit just one), there were times when it was useful to edit multiple layers, or even just click between layers with the direct selection tool.
I've seen this documentation on the site, but I'm not sure it's very helpful. Can someone give me some assistance?
Also, what is the custom keyboard shortcut for entering/exiting isolation mode? It is mentioned in the above image, but what actually is it?

You can still work with paths the way you could in 14.0 -- just choose the All Layers mode in the Path Selection tool or Direct Selection tool options bar. We added the Active Layers mode for users who prefer to isolate which paths can be selected based on which layers they have already selected in the Layers panel.
    To clarify:
-Active Layers mode: Clicking or dragging on the canvas with the vector selection tools will not affect which layers are selected in the Layers panel. Double-click to enter isolation mode is disabled.
-All Layers mode: Works just like in 14.0 -- clicking or dragging on the canvas with the vector selection tools can change which layers are selected in the Layers panel. Double-click to enter isolation mode is enabled.
If you find yourself switching between these two modes a lot, you can add a custom keyboard shortcut that will toggle which mode is selected. In the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, choose Shortcuts For: Tools and scroll down to the Direct Selection Mode Toggle option. Add your new keyboard shortcut here.
As for your question about isolation mode keyboard shortcuts, this just means that you can assign a custom keyboard shortcut to this command as well (Select > Isolate Layers).

  • How do I convert a Word hyperlink path to point to a converted PDF document?

I have a folder with Word documents that I want to convert to PDF. Many of the Word documents have hyperlinks to bookmarks in other Word documents in the same folder. (I'm trying to convert all the Word documents in the folder to PDF.) After I convert all the folder documents to PDF and click on the hyperlinks, they take me to the old Word documents. Is there a way to convert the hyperlink paths to instead take me to the converted PDF document?

The original Hyperlink path, established in the MS Word files has as the target file some *.doc file.
Edit Hyperlinks, in MS Word, to change the target file(s) to the appropriate *.pdf file.
As a guess, I'd say someone familiar with MS VB might be able to come of with something to do the change programmatically.
An alternative could be a web search for a possible Acrobat JavaScript that might do the job to the PDF files.
Failing that the job would be done manually to each Hyperlink in each MS Word file.
As to MS Hyperlinks to MS "Bookmarks" in other files.
The [ # ] character used as a parameter is not interpreted by Adobe Reader / Acrobat in the same manner as MS Office products.
Consequently, in an output PDF, the link will only open the target file. Note that MS Bookmarks within a DOC file will function in the output PDF.

  • Error converting Photoshop Starter Edition Catalog to PSE8

I have followed instructions on the forum to convert by using the utility within PSE8. I  received an error and opened up starter edition and reconnected or deleted files from the catalog. I attempted to convert again and I get a Conversion failed error. The exact text of the error is "The conversion operation failed. I have verified that Starter Edition 3 does not recognize any photos as not connected. I ran the tool from www.johnrellis.com and here is the response - psedbtool version 1.08

I do have a new computer running Windows 7 64bit operating system. I have installed the trial version of PSE8 hoping it would help. It isn't. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

This has been reported by many users. So as a workaround try converting the catalog to PSE5 and then to PSE8You can try downloading the trial version of PSE5.

  • Convert psd to editable text ?

To convert a  psd to "editable text"...do I have to have the Font / Typeface in my system.
My client will supply text in a psd file  from MAC and I wish to use the text on a path in my Windows system.

Yes, you will need the fonts on your system. That feature latches on to the text string and formatting info, but otherwise there is nothing there in the PSD. Unlike PDFs for instance, they don't support embedding whole glyph sets to retain appearance even if the font is not on the system...

  • Why is Illust. CS6 generating an additional rectangular path when converting brush stroke to path?

I depend on custom brushes where I convert those brushes to outlines and then "Unite" those objects in Pathfinder.
I never had any problems through CS5, but now CS6 is adding an additional rectangular path surrounding the object, so when I go to unite multiple objects I get a bunch of united rectangles instead of pine needles, for example. What the heck.
Thanks in advance for any solutions to this issue.

In older versions of Illustrator (about AI 9 or 10) there was a trick to avoid getting similar superfluous paths by first selecting all objects (or just the brush objects), then applying the Effect > Distort and Transform > Transform Effect in placebo mode (just take the default values).
After that, you could go to Object > Expand Appearance.
Not sure if that bumpy workaround still works in AI CS6.

  • How can I convert 30 fps edited footage to 29.97 in prem 6?

I have 11 minutes of footage that I want to be able to send to my dv camcorder and then burn the dvd but the problem is I edited all of the footage in a 30 fps timebase and when I open the project up in 29.97 premiere tells me that it will add gliches, etc. and sure enough it does and the audio levels are different. How can i fix this without having to re-edit all of my footage?

A free converter that will convert AVCHD to Premiere Elements compatible hi-def MPEG2 is the Free AVCHD Converter, available from:
    http://www.koyotesoft.com
According tp Paul Scrivener, you should up the bit rate to 25000kb/s and convert, and it will export 1920x1080 MPEG2.
One downside is that, when you install it, it automatically downloads a search tool to your browser toolbar -- but it can easily be removed using Add/Remove Programs.
For easy editing of AVCHD and even conversion to standard DV-AVI, a great buy is Corel VideoStudio Pro X2. This editor/converter sells for $59.99.

  • I've been giving HD videos in MTS format and convert the for editing in FCE.  Looks good in the program, but when I export the finished film, quality had been noticeable diminished.  Is there any way to prevent FCE from lowering the output quality?

    Hello -
I've been sent HD footage in MTS format and converted it to Mp4 for editing in FCE.  It looks good in FCE but when I export the movie, the quality is noticably diminished.   Is there any way I can prevent FCE from lowering the quality on export?
    Thanks.

    >I use Foxreal video converter for Mac to convert the MTS using the Apple intermediate codec setting and the problem is that I don't get image, just audio
My thought would be to NOT use Foxreal video converter.
    Use MPEG Streamclip or Clipwrap.

  • I was informed i need to purchase standard 11 or standard 12 (?) in order to make word files converted from pdf editable. how do i do this?

i was informed i need to purchase standard 11 or standard 12 from adobe in order to make files converted from pdf to word using the recently bought and installed adobe pdf exporter file. how/where do i do this?

Currently the Acrobat version is "XI" (no "12").
    With Acrobat XI installed:
"File - Save As Other"  --- from here you pick the supported file format for the export.
If a PDF has content that is the output of a scanner then that output (as is the case for All scanners' output) is a picture of text and not real text.
During an export all that can be processed is the picture. As a picture of text is not text it is understandable why Word (or other word processors) cannot edit the content.
So, for such, prior to export run Acrobat's OCR and save.
The export will be of the OCR content.
Do expect to do clean of the text, spelling, punctuation, layout etc.
This may be minor. This may be major. But, there will be some.
Adobe as some online subscription services that can take a "proper" PDF (NOT all are eh) and export to supported file formats.
Two are "ExportPDF" and "PDF Pack".

  • Convert AVCHD to edit in Imovie HD

Hi all. I must be putting search text in wrong because I'm sure this question is here. Or maybe not.
I just bought a Sony HD HDD camcorder which uses AVCHD. Now I know that imovie 8 can use AVCHD however as we all know, imovie 8 is very lacking in actual editing. I also know I can purchase final cut and edit AVCHD, however I can't dish out that amount of money right now, nor do I feel I really need to with what I want to do with my movies right now. So I want to know:
    1. Can I convert my HD AVCHD format movie into another format which will work in Imovie HD and how do I do that?
    2. Will this also be HD?
    3. If this is HD, when I burn to DVD, will it play in HD on a regular DVD player? Only on a B-Ray player? Not HD at all?
I am probably the noobest person right now on this stuff but I wanted a HD camcorder because I do a lot of traveling to exotic places and we just had our first baby girl a year ago and want to do some video of her for our family. I knew that the there would be some problem with the format, at least at first, but I don't mind trouble.
    Thanks for any help.

  • How do I converting PDF to editable Word?

I've follwoed the onscreen directions multiple times over the past week but have been unable to acheive a successful conversion. The uploading file to Adobe ExportPDF online monitor just keeps going round and round in circles for HOURS! There is no sign of any progress. I don't know if the programme is doing anything or sitting sucking its thumb. How can I tell if it is progressing or if it is jammed. And more importantly how do I get these blessed files converted from scanned PDF to editable Word? I have Windows 8 but am really struggling to get my usual applications to work properly with the new operating system.

A scanned document is really just an image; converting it to Word will still result in an image.
The scanned document needs text recognition processing (OCR); I don't know if ExportPDF can actually do that.
I will move your topic to the ExportPDF forum, where they know a lot more about it than here in the Reader forum.

  • I have add-ons (Convert to PDF, Edit in Contribute, Post to Blog) that use small icons, yet take up 2 rows of space at the top of my browser window. How do I move these items to display on 1 row?

''Problem: too much blank space at the top of browser window.''
    • The Convert to PDF icon takes up 1 entire row (predominately blank) of horizontal space
    • Edit in Contribute, Post to Blog are listed on a separate row, taking up 1 additional row (predominately blank) of horizontal space
They both use small icons and titles, .5" wide each, are flushed to the left, yet take up 2 rows of blank space at the top of my browser window. How do I move these items to display on 1 row?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode (https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode) and choose the 'Reset toolbars and controls option'. This will get you back to the stock icon set which you can then customize to your liking

  • Converting pdf to editable word doc

Does anyone know if you can convert pdf files back into an
editable word document? If so, how?
    Thank you.

    Hello Murphy#1,
    Thanks for your post.
Converting PDF to another file type is outside of the scope
of Acrobat.com's functionality. Of course that doesn't mean the
    operation can't be done!
    I performed a
    Google
search for PDF to Word and saw a few options.
You may consider looking one or more of these.
Or if you'd like, you could ask this question over on the
Acrobat forums, as some users there may be performing this type of
    workflow as well.
    Acrobat
    Pro Forums
Give some of those suggestions a try!
    Cheers,
