Hi i need one help from you.
can you please help me out

so in one of the xml file i have 'varchar' values which i need to convert to decimal and i need to insert.
from the below script i need this conversion for "M.Item.query('./unitPrice').value('0.0','decimal(18,2)') unitPrice"
could you suggest me on this.

SELECT
@Transaction_GUID,
@TransactionId,
M.Item.query('./lineItemNumber').value('.','int') lineItemNumber,
M.Item.query('./quantity').value('.','int') quantity,
M.Item.query('./unitPrice').value('0.0','decimal(18,2)') unitPrice,
M.Item.query('./unitPrice').value('.','decimal') unitPrice,
M.Item.query('./productCode').value('.','nvarchar(100)') productCode,
M.Item.query('./shipFromAddress/address1').value('.','nvarchar(255)') + '' + M.Item.query('./shipFromAddress/address2').value('.','nvarchar(255)')shipFromAddress,
M.Item.query('./shipToAddress/address1').value('.','nvarchar(255)') + '' + M.Item.query('./shipToAddress/address2').value('.','nvarchar(255)')shipToAddressEdited by: 891933 on Dec 4, 2012 5:27 AM
If this was Oracle, I would point you at the to_number function, but since you seem to be using MS Sql Server, I suggest you ask in a Microsoft soecufic forum.
This is the forum for Oracle's SQL Developer tool.

Convert varchar to decimal - arithmetic overflow
I'm using SQL Server 2014 and I'm trying to convert data from a staging table over to a production table. I seem to be getting an Arithmetic overflow error converting varchar to numeric on the decimal conversion. I'm sure I've overlooked something with the
syntax of the CONVERT.
This is the staging table:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[staging_table](
[TimeIndex] [varchar](100) NULL,
[Cluster] [varchar](100) NULL,
[AvgMem] [varchar](100) NULL,
[AvgCPU] [varchar](100) NULL,
[TotalMemory] [varchar](100) NULL,
[TotalCPU] [varchar](100) NULL,
[Datacenter] [varchar](100) NULL,
[vCenter] [varchar](100) NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]
This is the prod table I'm moving it to:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Clusters](
[ClusterID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[ClusterName] [varchar](25) NULL,
[DatacenterName] [varchar](25) NULL,
[TimeIndex] [datetime] NULL,
[AvgCPU] [decimal](5, 2) NULL,
[AvgMem] [decimal](5, 2) NULL,
[TotalCPU] [decimal](8, 2) NULL,
[TotalMem] [decimal](8, 2) NULL,
[vCenterID] [int] NULL,
CONSTRAINT [PK_Clusters_1] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
[ClusterID] ASC
)WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
) ON [PRIMARY]
and here's an example INSERT INTO statement throwing the error:
INSERT INTO [dbo].[Clusters] (ClusterName,DatacenterName,TimeIndex,AvgCPU,AvgMem,TotalCPU,TotalMem,vCenterID)
SELECT SUBSTRING(Cluster,1,25) AS ClusterName,
SUBSTRING(Datacenter,1,25) AS DatacenterName,
CONVERT(datetime,TimeIndex,103) AS TimeIndex,
CONVERT(decimal(5,2),AvgCPU) AS AvgCPU,
CONVERT(decimal(5,2),AvgMem) AS AvgMem,
CONVERT(decimal(8,2),TotalCPU) AS TotalCPU,
CONVERT(decimal(8,2),TotalMemory) AS TotalMem,
'3' FROM [dbo].[staging_table]
Sample data is 0.00 to 100.00 in fields AvgCPU and AvgMem, and TotalCPU and TotalMem usually goes up to about 7 digits with no decimal (eg. 7543253) but could be 8 and although I've never seen a decimal I wouldn't rule it out so decided to account for it.
I assume it's something I've overlooked with the syntax but any ideas would help.
Thanks
AdamThe problem is your precision and scale you are assigning to your decimals.
decimal(5,2) = this is a total of 5 digits, 3 digits for the whole number and 2 for the fractional.
decimal(8,2) = this is a total of 8 digits, 6 digits for the whole number and 2 for the fractional.
So converting a varchar of 7 or 8 digits for TotalCPU or TotalMem will give you an error because your definition will actually only allow for 6 digits of storage. You could test this by doing decimal(8,0) or decimal(10,2) both which will allow for up to
8 whole numbers.
If you are worried about space Sql Server will allocate a set number of bytes for ranges based on the precision (first number in the parenthesis). See this page which explains in detail how much space each range takes up and also further details on
decimal and numerics.

Replace and convert varchar to decimal
Hi all
What could be the easiest way to replace and convert varchar(50) to decimal
My string '21 807,00' Need to have it in db as 21807.00
Thanks
AKEOn any version you can use somple convert with replace:
declare @MyStr varchar(10) = '21 807,00'
SELECT CONVERT(decimal(10,2), REPLACE(REPLACE(@MyStr, ',','.'),' ',''))
but if there is a different format and the convert will not work, then you will get error. Therefore it is best (as mentioned) to use TRY_CONVERT on newer server or use Try block on old servers

How to convert XML content into SQL INSERT statements
Hi all,
I'm very new to XML. Forgive me if I don't use technical XML terms. :-)
We are planning to convert SQL queries into XML format using a third party tool.
After that we have to read the XML files and use the tokens to insert into custom tables.
So, basically we have to create INSERT statements using the data stored in the XML file.
How do we go about reading / parsing the XML file in Java?
Pls help!
Regards,
SamThis is the requirement with an example.
eg. if the following SQL query is fed into the 3rd party system,
select last_name,job_id,salary from employees a, deptno b
where a.deptno = b.deptno
the output would be,
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<sqlscript dbvendor="MSSQL">
<fullselectstmt nestlevel="0">
<subselectstmt><selectclause><fieldlist>
<field><fieldname>
<attr>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="field">last_name</sourcetoken>
</attr>
</fieldname>
</field>
<field><fieldname>
<attr>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="field">job_id</sourcetoken>
</attr>
</fieldname>
</field>
<field><fieldname>
<attr>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="field">salary</sourcetoken>
</attr>
</fieldname>
</field>
</fieldlist></selectclause>
<fromclause><joinlist><join nestlevel="0">
<lztable><simpletable><attr>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="table">employees</sourcetoken>
</attr><aliasclause withas="false"><sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="table alias">a</sourcetoken></aliasclause></simpletable></lztable></join><join nestlevel="0">
<lztable><simpletable><attr>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="table">deptno</sourcetoken>
</attr><aliasclause withas="false"><sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="table alias">b</sourcetoken></aliasclause></simpletable></lztable></join></joinlist></fromclause>
<whereclause><expression exprtype="Expr_Comparison" exproop="="><attr>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="table alias">a</sourcetoken>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="unknown">.</sourcetoken>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="field">deptno</sourcetoken>
</attr><attr>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="table alias">b</sourcetoken>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="unknown">.</sourcetoken>
<sourcetoken toketype="" dbobjtype="field">deptno</sourcetoken>
</attr></expression>
</whereclause></subselectstmt></fullselectstmt>
</sqlscript>
So, using the output file, the list of columns (under token "field") last_name,job_id and salary should be inserted into LIST_COLUMNS table. So 3 INSERT statements should be created for 3 columns.
The list of tables (under token "table") employees and dept should be inserted into LIST_TABLES table. So 2 INSERT statements should be created for the 2 tables.

Convert the insert statement of an MS SQL server into an oracle statement
Hi ,
The insert statement in the ms sql server is
INSERT INTO #temp EXEC Procedurename @Id OUTPUT
where table temp
CREATE TABLE #temp(
Id varchar(10),
FNa varchar(40),
LNa varchar(40),
SId varchar(20),
Aid varchar(20),
Did varchar(20),
CCNa varchar(255),
CCId int,
ISu char(1),
IA char(1),
Dir char(1),
Ema varchar(60),
St char(2),
DId char(3)
I converted the insert statement like this
Procedurename(Id);
LOOP
FETCH cv_1 INTO v_temp;
EXIT WHEN cv_1%NOTFOUND;
INSERT INTO TEMP VALUES v_temp;
END LOOP;
CLOSE cv_1;
But i am receiving PL/SQL: ORA-00947: not enough values
Can anyone help on this?
Thanks1) Are you sure that you even need a temp table? Fetching all the rows from a cursor 1-by-1 and then inserting them into a temp table (I'm assuming the Oracle table TEMP is declared as a global temporary table) would seem rather unusual and most likely pointless. In Oracle, readers don't block writers, so there is generally no need to use temp tables to hold intermediate results.
2) If you do need to store a set of results into a table, it's going to be more efficient to do this in a single SQL statement rather than using a cursor. Something like
INSERT INTO my_table ( <<list of columns>> )
SELECT <<list of columns>>
FROM <<other tables>>
WHERE <<some conditions>>The SELECT part of the statement here is likely whatever SQL you use in declaring the cursor.

Using sql:variable in an insert statement
I'm writing an insert statement for a table with an XML column. Most of the XML is static, but I need to replace the value of an element with the value of a T-SQL variable, as shown here:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[OrderDetail](
[OrderID] [int] NULL,
[OrderDetail] [xml] NULL
GO
DECLARE @XMLData XML;
DECLARE @ItemID INT;
SET @ItemID = 1000;
SELECT @XMLData = N'
<OrderDetail xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
</OrderDetail>
SET @XMLData.modify('insert <ItemID>[sql:variable("@ItemID")]</ItemID> into (/OrderDetail)[1]')
INSERT INTO [dbo].[OrderDetail] ([OrderID], [OrderDetail])
VALUES (@ItemID, @XMLData);
When I run this, it inserts "[sql:variable("@ItemID")]" instead of the value of @ItemID. If someone could show me the proper syntax, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.Yes, that worked. Now I want to change it a little. I also have an attribute that I need to update with the value of a variable.
DECLARE @XMLData XML;
DECLARE @SetID INT;
DECLARE @SetIDStr VARCHAR(12);
DECLARE @SetIDXML XML;
SET @SetID = 9999;
SET @SetIDStr = CONVERT(VARCHAR(12), @SetID);
SET @SetIDXML = CONVERT(XML, @SetIDStr);
SELECT @XMLData = N'
<OrderDetail xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<ItemID>1000</ItemID>
<RightOperand ID="15524" Name="ItemName" Value="15524" />
</OrderDetail>
SET @XMLData.modify('replace value of (/OrderDetail/RightOperand/@ID)[1] with sql:variable("@SetIDXML")');
INSERT INTO [dbo].[OrderDetail] ([OrderID], [OrderDetail])
VALUES (@SetID, @XMLData);
SELECT * FROM [dbo].[OrderDetail];
I'm trying to replace "ID="15524"" with the value of @SetID. This code throws an exception:
Msg 9342, Level 16, State 1, Line 23
XQuery [modify()]: An XML instance is only supported as the direct source of an insert using sql:column/sql:variable.
Thanks again for your help. -
Convert varchar(20) date to date that looks like mm/dd/yyyy
Good afternoon,
I am a total novice at SQL and have been tasked to change a varchar(20) date column (shows up as m/dd/yy) to show up as mm/dd/yyyy. I've looked at the previous posts, but being a novice, it's difficult to wade through the non-applicable stuff. The column
that needs to be changed is field2, but I'm not sure how to construct a statement to reflect my objective.
Thank you in advance.The sample uses a table variable. You can program it the same way for a table:
DECLARE @t TABLE (dt VARCHAR(20))
INSERT INTO @t
VALUES ('1/2/12')
,('3/10/10')
,('7/23/9')
,('aa')
,('12/31/99')
,('10/20/00')
,('10/20/01')
SET DATEFORMAT mdy
SELECT dt
,CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), CASE
WHEN isdate(dt) = 0
THEN NULL
ELSE cast(dt AS DATE)
END, 101) AS newDt
FROM @t;/******** TRY_CONVERT() method ************/
SELECT dt, newDt=CONVERT(varchar(10),TRY_CONVERT(date,dt),101) FROM @t;

Convert varchar(255) to varchar(50)
I want to transfer data from a staging table to another table. The staging table has columns with datatypes I don't always want, and I'm converting them like so:
INSERT INTO [dbo].[my_table]
SELECT CONVERT(datetime,TimeIndex,103),
CONVERT(decimal(6,3),Network_In,3),
CONVERT(decimal(6,3),Network_Out,3),
CONVERT(decimal(6,3),Network_Total,3)
FROM [dbo].[staging_table]
How would I convert varchar(255) to varchar(50)?
Thanks in advance
AdamUsing substring is returning the column so thanks but now I can't convert datetime for some reason:
INSERT INTO [dbo].[mytable]
SELECT SUBSTRING(ClusterName,1,50) AS 'ClusterName',
CONVERT(datetime,TimeIndex,103),
ClusterID,
CONVERT(decimal(3,2),Memory,3),
CONVERT(decimal(3,2),CPU,3),
CONVERT(int,CPUTotal),
CONVERT(int,MemoryTotal)
FROM [dbo].[stagingtable]
GO
Now I get an error I didn't get before:
Implicit conversion from data type datetime to decimal is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query.
But if I run the datetime convert on it's own as a single column select then it works okay. Any ideas where I've gone wrong there?
To sum up - the above fails but the below works:
SELECT CONVERT(datetime,TimeIndex,103) AS 'TimeIndex'
FROM [dbo].[stagingtable]
Thanks

rajHi, Raj,
When you store dates in a VARCHAR2 column, you're asking for touble, so it seems that everything is working according to plan.
Even aside from that, your query works perfectly for me.
In the output you posted, the order is correct within each year, and you're only showing 2 digits of the year. Are you sure the centuries are right in the schedule_backup table? Perhaps everything that was supposed to be '2010' got enetereed as '1910' or '0010'.
Post some sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements) that gets the wrong results with your query.
For example:
CREATE TABLE schedule_backup
( created_date VARCHAR2 (10)
INSERT INTO schedule_backup (created_date) VALUES ('11-11-2009');
INSERT INTO schedule_backup (created_date) VALUES ('04-11-2009');
INSERT INTO schedule_backup (created_date) VALUES ('30-10-2009');
INSERT INTO schedule_backup (created_date) VALUES ('11-09-2009');
INSERT INTO schedule_backup (created_date) VALUES ('04-03-2010');

Convert Mainframe Packed Decimal to Oralce Number Format
Dear all,
I am having a file in which amount fields are given in a Packed Decimal format. Can anyone suggest me how I can read this data element from the file and convert it into Oracle Number datatype.
File is a fixed length. All the amount fields are given in Packed Decimal Format and rest of the fields are given in text format.
Thanks and regards
Nagasayan PuppalaHi,
Firstly thanks for your reply.
Actually I am not using SQL Loader to load data from
a flat file to Oracle table. I am writing a custom
program that reads the file and populates the oracle
table. I'll put aside the question of 'why' you'd want to do that. SQL*Loader's singular purpose in life is to load flat files of data into Oracle DB. Sometimes there is a reason for reinventing the wheel.
How does your program communicate with the Oracle DB? If utilizing ESQL and Pro*Cobol (or Pro*<whatever> ) you will have read the data into a variable of some type in you host language. The variable of the host variable to hold the value (if you did a 'select from' that table) would be the correct target type for an insert statement. Whatever host language type conversion is available bewteen those two types ( if they are different at all ) is all that is needed. The precompilers have converters between certain native host and internal Oracle types built-in. It is how you get any data between the two systems. This is only a problem if the host language has no converter between the numeric types (if differnet.). When you read from the flat file are you reading it into a native packed decimal in the host language?
ODBC/JDBC similar strategy..... cast conversion between the native type that Oracle wants and the one into which your custom program reads it into.
So I want to know whether there are any Oracle
utility programs that will convert the packed decimal
to a oracle number format or not.There are Oracle routines that convert into the native Oracle DB formats. There are implicitly available through the normally utilized interfaces to OCI ( ESQL and ODBC/JDBC ) . There are none decoupled from those interfaces though (that I know of).
There are no standalone programs that mutate a flat file into another flat file that then could be loaded. That's is typically slower and utilzes more space than most customers want than just directly inputing the data into Oracle DB.

Hi,
I have a field DATE.
This item contain a Date. But I have other variable varchar that contain hour (hh:mi:ss).
I have to convert this varchar to a hour ant concat with the Date Field.
How can I do this?
ThankssIt would help if you posted some simple CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, so we know what we're dealing with.
Of what datatype are BOTH your fields?
Is DATE (bad column name, since DATE is an Oracle reserved word) of DATE datatype or also a VARCHAR2?
You can turn your VARCHAR2 hour into a DATE hour by using TO_DATE and the correct format:
SQL> select to_date('01:22:52', 'hh24:mi:ss') from dual;
TO_DATE('01:22:52',

Report with stored proc running multiple stored procedures with insert statement
Hi,
I wonder if this is possible in SSRS ... I use the 2012 version (Data Tools).
I have a report that triggers a stored procedure. See below.
Within this SP there are 2 insert statements getting data from 2 other SP's.
When I make a dataset referring to the main SP below, SSRS does not show me any fields at all.
Is this because it's a SP with insert statements and nested SP's?
At the end of the SP I make a select so it should see all the fields.
The parameters @month and @costcenter are multivalue params. I use a special function to convert the multivalues, selected in the report, into a string to pass it correctly to the query (comma separated).
USE [TestDB]
GO
/****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[_Pink_SP_StandingsRegisterDataset] Script Date: 15-4-2014 13:31:30 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[_Pink_SP_StandingsRegisterDataset]
@year INT,
@month NVARCHAR(50),
@costcenter NVARCHAR(500),
@GLaccount NVARCHAR(9)
AS
BEGIN
/* Remove existing content*/
DELETE FROM _Pink_TB_StandingsRegister
/* Add records part 1 */
INSERT INTO _Pink_TB_StandingsRegister
EXEC _Pink_SP_StandingsRegister @year, @month, @costcenter, @GLaccount
/* Add records part 2 */
INSERT INTO _Pink_TB_StandingsRegister
Type,
Row,
Year,
Month,
YearDatetable,
MonthDatetable
EXEC _Pink_SP_StandingsRegisterDatetable @year
/* Select all records */
SELECT *
FROM _Pink_TB_StandingsRegister
END
GOHi bijntjede2e,
After testing a similar scenario in my own environment, it works well in Reporting Services. In my test, the stored procedure returns all the fields from _Pink_TB_StandingsRegister table in the dataset. Then I select some values from year, month, costcenter
and Glaccount parameters, it inserts some values in the _Pink_TB_StandingsRegister table. So we can use this stored procedure as the dataset in the report.
In order to solve the problem more efficiently, I need to clarify some information.
Are you pass multiple values parameter to one stored procedure correctly? We can refer to the following thread:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/dbdfa101-cccc-4e9f-aa50-566dc5ebcc27/ssrs-2008-r2-report-dataset-call-a-stored-procedure?forum=sqlrep
What results are you get when executing the stored procedure in SQL Server Management Studio? Is it works well? We should double those stored procedures.
If there are any misunderstanding, please elaborate the issue for further investigation.
Thanks,
Katherine Xiong
