Converting 3.5 Workbooks to 7.x

Hi, I have the 7.x Migration Book from SAP Press and nowhere in the book does it mention anything about converting BEx Workbooks to 7.x.
Do we or should we convert the Workbooks as well to 7.x?
What is the Benefit of converting Workbooks to 7.x?
Thanks,

In my current environment, we are using BEx 7.0 Analyzer workbooks (without template) on BEx 3.5 queries.
The BEx 7.0 Analyzer has many good features found at the "Workbook" Level
Formating the table display is much easier in BEx 7.0 Analyzer .
The ability to connect charts to queries is also powerful.
Give it a try!

  • Converting mutiple excel workbooks

I use Acrobat 8 standard edition.
We successfully convert an existing single excel workbook
with 18 TABS into a single PDF document. One of these TABS has
hyperlinks to other TABS in the same workbook. When we convert to
PDF the links work as expected and we can jump around the PDF using
    them.
We now want to convert a series of multi-tab workbooks into a
single PDF document. OK we could combine several PDF's onto one I
know, but the snag is that the first excel workbook is to contain
hyperlinks to TABS in one or more of the other workbooks, so that
when we convert to PDF these links should jump to various parts of
    the final PDF.
    Any ideas.

Check that you are not using VBA to protect the workbook on Open. This takes much longer in Excel 2013.
It would be code similar to this:
    Sub protectSheets()
    Dim i As Long
        For i = 1 To Sheets.Count
            Sheets(i).Protect Password:="password", userinterfaceonly:=True
        Next i
    End Sub
    Check out this Link here:
     http://office.microsoft.com/en-ca/access-help/office-2013-known-issues-HA102919019.aspx
    Excel
    Protecting sheets takes longer
Protecting sheets takes much longer than in previous Excel versions. It’s not noticeable when you’re manually protecting a sheet, but if you have code that protects or unprotects sheets repeatedly, it can become a performance issue.
The delay is caused by increased security in Excel 2013 for password protected files, because it uses a stronger hashing algorithm (SHA-512). In Office 2010 the default hashing algorithm for password protected files is SHA1. This change makes Excel password
protected workbooks more secure than they were in previous versions, but can cause a performance issue for some Office Developers.
Workaround This is by design so there is no workaround.

  • Converting 3.5x workbooks to 7.0

    Hi,
Im having an issue when converting workbooks to V7.0 in that our 3.5 workboks have a Navigate Pane which displays the variables that the user selected to run the query.
This doesnt appear in the converted version. Does anyone know how this can be done or can suggest a method to provide this. The reports can look quite meaningless if you cannot see what the selection criteria was.

  • How can I convert an entire excel workbook to pdf?

How can I convert an entire excel workbook to pdf?  I have the box in the preferences for converting excel files marked to convert the entire workbook.  I am using Abobe Acrobat 11 Statndard.  This previously worked fine when I was using Adboe Acrobat 10 Statndard.  Now in order to convert the entire workbook I have to open the excel file, Highlight all the workbook tabs and then save the file.  Any ideas?

In Acrobat click Edit | Preferences | Convert to PDF: select Microsoft Office Excel, then click on Edit Settings.  Make sure that 'Convert entire Excel workbook' is checked.

  • Programatically convert Excel workbook sheet to an image (bmp or jpeg)

My client has a requirement for me to convert an Excel workbook sheet to an image of any kind, bmp, jpeg, ect. This is a batch Java 1.5 application and I have generated a spreadsheet using JExcelApi. Now I need to email the spreadsheet as an inline image ... the client does not want an attachment. I'm using the Spring framework Mail api to actually email it. This api requires inline content be an image. Therefore, I need a way to programatically convert Excel to an image.
I've done my homework and researched for many hours now, but have not come up with any solutions. I also looked at 3rd party tools googling thru pages and pages of converters, but they all seem to be GUI tools to manually do the conversion. Aspose.cells looked promising but it only supports .Net, for this functionality. Please suggest a 3rd party tool, or provide a code sample of how to do the conversion.
    Thanks!

    JPEGImageEncoder imageEncoder = JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(out);
    JPEGEncodeParam encodeParam = JPEGCodec.getDefaultJPEGEncodeParam(img);

Why do I get a totally blank PDF file whenever I try to convert any (Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010, Version: 14.0.6029.1000) Word document file containing either Mangal Fonts (Hindi) and Tunga Fonts (Kannada) into a PDF file (by using Adobe Acrobat X Standard - English, Version: 10.1.4, Program File Size: 1790 MB, Complete/Full Version) after formatting and reinstalling all the necessary software / softwares (Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 and Windows XP Service Pack 3, Version: 20080414-031525, Program File Size: 9.08 MB)?

Any Word 2010 document file that has been converted into any PDF File unfortunately does not show either the Mangal (Hindi) Fonts or the Tunga (Kannada) Fonts.
The PDF file will unfortunately become/remain totally/fully/completely blank.
When I convert an Excel Workbook having the Tunga Fonts (Kannada) to/into a PDF File, some of the Tunga fonts in the PDF file are legible and some are unfortunately illegible (get superimposed / overwritten on each other).
Perhaps I may get the same result if I try to convert an Excel Workbook having the Mangal Fonts (Hindi) to/into a PDF File with some Mangal fonts being/becoming legible and the rest being/becoming illegible (getting superimposed / overwritten on each other).

My chronological sequence of steps to create a Word 2010 Document or an Excel 2010 Workbook:
I first create a Word Document File or an Excel Workbook File and save it by giving an appropriate file name.
Then I right click on the closed Word Document File or the Excel Workbook File in the file folder and convert it into a PDF by retaining the same/original file name.
The font list of Microsoft Word 2010 claims/says/states that both Mangal and Tunga are True Type fonts and also that these fonts will/would be used on both printer and screen.
In case if there is any text content in English in the beginning it will get converted into PDF only till/until either a Mangal(Hindi)/Tunga(Kannada) Font starts.
The remaining English text content does not get converted into/to PDF the moment a Mangal(Hindi)/Tunga(Kannada) Font starts. If the entire matter is purely (100 per cent) in English text it will fully / completely / totally get converted into a PDF file without any problem.

  • Bex Default template for Queries and Workbooks

    Dear All,
We have a default template for all queries and workbooks. But this default template was created using a AP query and saved as a workbook. Now all the users having AR role are not able to execute queries or workbooks.Since this default template has a AP info provider associated with it.Is it possible convert this default workbook to a generic one without any security restrictions. Please provide a solution.

In Bex analyzer, you have option to convert a template into a default template.
Or you can create a copy of the existing template without AP infoproviders and assign it as default template.

  • Advice on a data model

I am using SP Server 2010.  The requirements of a project are to:-
Search an external database so that we can bring back rows from that database with say 5 fields.
Create a list in SP to hold about 25 site columns
Use the list in (2) to add rows sourced from (1) and fill in the site columns specified in (2)
Poll the (1) to check if new rows have been added and, if they have, add them to the list in (2)
Could anyone please advise upon the best way to model these requirements in SP given this MSDN
    documentation?
    Using BCS presumably?
Should we favour External Columns in (2) as opposed to lookups for example (see my
    post here)?
We are basically trying to convert an Excel Workbook to SP. If we have the option (and we may not) is Excel Services the best way to do this?
What is List Pattern we should adopt?
    Thanks,
    Maz

    Hi,
For your first requirement, yes, you can use business connectivity service to bring rows from the external database field.
You can refer the detailed article below:
Using Business Connectivity Services in SharePoint 2010
For your second and third requirement, yes you need to create external data column to fill the external database field data to the list in the list. As external list has limitation as the source of look up column directly.
More information about external data column:
Create a SharePoint List with External Data Columns
If your requirement "convert excel workbook to SP", yes, you can use excel service to display workbook content in browser directly.
    More information:
Excel Services in SharePoint Server 2010
For your fourth requirement, you can create a console application with Server Object Model to check the data in the external list in first requirement, if there is data in the list ,then you can add the data to external columns in requirement 2.
    Programmatically set external column
For the list pattern, it will depend on your business logic and you data count,if your data is very large, then you can use the large list pattern.
    Thanks

  • Excel 2010 no longer a save option

All my excel 2010 files have been converted to Excel Workbook and open as gibberish in a "Notebook" format. Also, the "Save" function no longer works as Excel 2010. I can only save as Excel Workbook as a default, or Excel 97-2003. I
have a license for Excel 2010 and it has worked fine for over 3 or 4 years, but today it stopped.  Is there a fix?

  • Excel 2003 to 2013 VBA migration bug

    Hello!
I need to convert mission critical workbooks with much VBA code from Excel 2003 to Excel 2013, of which some were originally created using Excel 97.
When running any VBA macro I get 0x80028018 errors. A similar problem is described in KB320369 - BUG: "Old format or invalid type library"
error when automating Excel - however in my case it's
VBA, not .NET or VSTO and
I have installed the proper language packs.
I need to describe more detailed:
Even when I open the legacy workbook in 2013, create a new blank sheet, delete all old sheets and all VBA code, forms etc., put a new command button in, calling any new VBA sub, I get that error.
When I create a new workbook from scratch, put a new command button in, calling any new VBA sub, there is no error!
It also makes no difference, if I save it in compatibility mode xls or as new xlsm. See the screenshots.
I believe there is some legacy metadata in vbaProject.bin, which makes Excel 2013 choke.
    Thanks!
    L.

    Hi asklucas,
Are you installing mutiple version of Excel on the same computer? Can you check the wether the reference is correct in tools-reference?
    >>I believe there is some legacy metadata in vbaProject.bin, which makes Excel 2013 choke.<<
Is it helpful that conver the XLSM to XLSX, then copy the code in to XLSX and save it to XLSM back?
If not, I suggest that you create a new workbook and copy the orgial code into the new workbook as a workaround.
Event if there are many workbook, we can write an application to automate this process. Here are some helpful links for your reference:
    Objects (Visual Basic Add-In Model)

    Hope it is helpful.

  • How to set a sheet as Ad Hoc via VBA ...

We keep trying to convert our existing workbooks for Smart View.
As you can imagine this is a nightmare process but we keep trying ...
There is some progress and we learnt a lot on the way but we still face some major issues - we find SV with VBA to be an unpredictible combo.
    Anyway ...
In simple words I use a sequence of VBA SV API calls to create private connection (HypCreateConnection), to connect the sheet (HypConnect) and to retrieve data (HypRetrieveRange) - along the way I set up SV options and hide the Panel and the POV.
All "by the book" - I wish such "a book" ever existed ... I mean the documentation is far from "in depth" ...
The process works in c. 80% of cases (i.e. grids) but it fails on some (so far I found no correlation with anything else)
I have tried and tried all sorts of tricks to debug it.
It works with ALL grids in 1 in 20 tests but you can never predict when and why.
So it can work but something somewhere causes the process to fail on some grids in most of the tests.
    I noticed one detail ...
While the sheet gets connected and retrieved  with our process the Sheet Info still shows the sheet status as Empty ...
When working from a blank worksheet and with the Panel open (i.e. NOT via VBA) one of the steps is to click on Ad Hoc Analysis button.
It is unclear to me what exactly this one step does and it does not seem to be connecting or refreshing the grid.
It seems it defines the grid to be an Ad Hoc one.
Can the same be achieved programatically via VBA ?
So far I have NOT found any equivalent API call.
In desperation I am going to replace all HypRetrieveRange calls with HypMenuVRefresh call.
Would it define the sheets as Adf Hoc ?
    I will find out ...
Will it help with some odd grids ?
    Fingers crossed it will.
    Regards

    Hi Deiter,
You can achieve this with below steps.. I am giving below steps considering you want
to keep the condition type set as Obligatory always in your Pric Procedure
-> Write a custome routine for "Requirement Routine" with the logic : When item category
is ZAN, remove "Obligatory" check from KOMT1-KOBLI.
-> Assign this routine to condition type ZZ00
you are ready to go now.
    Why i am suggesting this...
-> Industry best practise, to write minumum codes in user exits (in this case it will be sales user exit),
as it increases system response time
-> If we change someting in user exit, imagine, everytime you are creating a Sales Order, which does
not call for this pricing procedure (with cond typ: ZZ00 ), still this part of user exit code written
to check if item cat is ZAN or not will be called, so why to make system work more when
        actually not required
    Hope this helps !

  • How to convert a workbook into PDF and broadcast as Email attachment

    Hello Gurus,
i have installed the ADS (Adobe Document services). I would like to broadcast workbooks as a pdf file to some user.
When i open the workbook and go to Broadcast --> Setup a broadcast setting for this workbook. The distribution type is
Broadcast E-mail; Broadcast E-mail (Bursting); Broadcast Portal; Broadcast Multichannel and Output Format only MS Workbook and Link to current Data. Here i miss the possibility as PDF.
Where can i set up that the workbook should be broadcast as PDF.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks and kind rgerads,
    Murat

    Thanks all for your answers,
i also read that with changing the format in Report designer then broadcasting via PDF. Is there no possibility for PDFs for MS Excel Workbooks? How does it work when opening the query in Report designer? What do i have to do there but it is no solution for us because in the workbooks we use GET BEX DATA formulas and just show parts of the analyisis grid. I need a proper solution how to use broadcaster converting workbooks into PDF an send them as email attachment
    Thanks,

  • How can I use VBA to convert SharePoint workbooks from 97-2003 format to 2007+ format?

I want to convert a workbook that lives on SharePoint from the old 97-2003 file format to the newer one.
The two CheckIn lines fail with "Subscript out of range". The workbook gets checked out, and the SaveAs works. But, once the workbook is saved as another name, I can't check in either workbook using VBA. If I close out of the new file name, it
asks if I want to check it in, and works if I say yes. But, VBA won't do it.
The old workbook seems to be no longer known by Excel once the SaveAs occurs, so I have to go to the SharePoint server and manually discard the checkout.
Sub Convert2003FileTo2007(DirectoryPath As String, FileName As String)
    ' Directory Path = \\servername
      ' FileName = xyz.xls, with no "x" at the end. Workbooks.CheckOut FileName:=DirectoryPath & "\" & FileName
    Workbooks.Open FileName:=DirectoryPath & "\" & FileName
    ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs _
    FileName:=DirectoryPath & "\" & FileName & "x", _
    FileFormat:=xlOpenXMLWorkbook, CreateBackup:=False
' Each of these commands fail
    Workbooks(DirectoryPath & "\" & FileName).CheckIn SaveChanges:=False
    Workbooks(DirectoryPath & "\" & FileName & "x").CheckIn
    End Sub ' Convert2003FileTo2007
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • I am uploading an Excel Workbook (xlsx format) to convert to a pdf and it has taken over an hour and it is still not uploading. I have even tried to restart it and that did not work.

I'm trying to upload an Excel Workbook (in xlsx format) to have it converted to a PDF file and that little circle has been spinning forever. I tried to restart the process but it did the same thing. So I tried to open up each individual worksheet of the workbook and save them individually. I "think" I got that to work, but when I go to the combine tab, I see the four pages that I have selected with spinning "thinking" circles on all of them. Please help. I have a client waiting for this proposal and I don't know what to do!
