Converting character input value to number or money

Hello everyone. I have an element, Overtime Allowance.
This has inputs:
proportion
hourly amount
number of hours
the formula is proportion * hourly amount * number of hours
Now, I want to restrict the proportion input value to only two values, 1 and 1.2
to do this, I created a value set and attached it to the input value
I had to change the datatype of the proportion input value to Character since the number data type does not support valuesets/lookups
the problem comes in the formula
I enter
overtime = to_number(proportion) * hourly amount * number of hours
but I get an error
using
overtime = proportion* hourly amount * number of hours
results in an error as well
Does anybody know how to sort this one out?

I managed to create a Valueset number with 1 and 1.2 values only.
Format Type: Number
Maximum Size: 3
Precision 1
Min value: 1.0
Max value: 1.2
Indipendent
Then I've entered Valueset values 1.0 and 1.2
It worked fine with me... what kind of issue are you experiencing?

Web Service Connection Date Input Values Converted to Number

I am using a Web Service Connection that has an input value called 'ModifiedOn' that is a date type. The problem that I have is that instead of sending a date string like '2008-08-04' it sends a number '39665' as the input to the web service method instead. Is there a way to force a date string to be returned instead of the number?

Hi Aaron,
You may want to try formatting the cell of "ModifiedOn" to a TEXT format instead of date to get yyyy/mm/dd formatting to appear.
It seems that Xcelsius automatically converts any type of date-specific formatting (as specified from Excel) to a date serial, which is what you are seeing here.

If I copyone of them and do a past special/value, it does not work.
Try just Paste instead of Paste Special > Value
I know your question is about Excel, but this works in Numbers:
Copy 1 234 567 (with spaces) and Paste (not Paste Special) into a Cell in a Numbers Table. The result is 1234567 and it behaves as a number. A formula will consider it to be a number:

Use of CAST function will convert NUMBER to CHAR but it takes a lot of time if there are large number of recrods.
Syntax:
CAST(col_name AS char)
I have tried this, it worked fine for less records.
Are you getting any error while using cast function or while querying..
As far as I know it won't give error in these cases (if correct syntax used) but it will take very much time (depending on the number of records) while querying.

i am creating a report in 10g.. in which i want to convert Emp_lump_sum (number) to character .I have created a formula column in which i have written a function in the formula column and assign that formula column to the text field in which i want the result.
when the report run i get the following error....

i have tried with a attribute EMP_NO (Varchar2(30)), it shows the result but when i add EMP_LUMP_SUM (NUMBER) , it show the above error. on the database side i get the same error.

Do not specify parameters you do not need. Name qualify your parameters. Do not initialize parameters with null, since they are already null by default.
And why not enter them manually? Or dataload? Or configuration Workbench?

How can I stay on the same line when inputting values in the CLI?

The title is a bit vague i know :) but i have this issue which isn't really a problem but it would be better if I can solve it.

I've made this simple addition (and more options but thats not relevant) application for kids in my spare time so that they can train their maths in school and compare their results with other students which is saved in the database using the hypersonic DB that comes with the JBoss application server.
Now so far so good, but i'm having an issue with the Scanner (I think, but i doubt its because of the CLI) , when i enter a number or text it works and exceptions will be catched etc but when i press the enter key without anything entered the input value wil be displayed a line below and that's not what I want. I want it to stay in the same line.

Input value given on web page is not getting pickedup in event handler

I have created one simple page in SE80 with program with flow logic option, in which I would like to show business partner details from BUT000 table with the input of partner number. But the thing is the input value(partner no.)which I am giving on web page is not getting picked up in selection in event handler though I am giving input value it is becoming initial while selecting. What could be the reason?
Below I am mentioning the code which I have written in even handler for OnInputProcessing event.

How can I run the report for different input values at the same time?

Reports version: Report Builder 6.0.8.13.1
Oracle version: Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.0.0
I want to run the same report for different input parameter values and spool each o/p to different file and ftp to a server. For this, as a first step, I am spooling different input values in to a file, reading those values through a loop and calling the report for that input values. Each report run/execution is taking 15 minutes. Total report execution is taking approximately 4 hours (assuming 16 different input values) to complete. So I have to wait 4 hours to see ALL outputs.
I would like to run the report parallel for ALL the input values and I should be able to see the ALL outputs with in 15 or 16 minutes.
In my shell script, I added & symbol at the end of the report call to start/run the job in the background. Due to this the control passed to the next step after the report call. At this place I have an ftp command to send the output file to a different server and it is giving error some thing like o/p file is not available/created yet". This is due to the fact that report writer is NOT yet completely started/initiated or it is NOT completed the spooling.
How can I run the report at the same time for all the input values and save the time?

Increase the number of server engines running right now it seems there is only one engine running ,increase it to 4 or 6
and then atleast 4 or 6 reports will run simultaneously.
For FTPing the output add to your sript to check whether it is locked and if not then only try to ftp .
Also for more better functionality read the document (chapter 15 ) for 10g reports for its new fuinctionality.

In your post you ask how to convert a string value to a date. The value returned from the Get-AdUser is already a date. It does not need to be converted.
Bill has sshown one way to convert a date to a string and there are other methods. You need to clarify your question.
If you are really trying ot convert strings to dates then you can start with this:
[datetime]'01/21/1965 13:33:23'
Most date strings aer autodetected by the class.

How to pass input value to the IN parameter in a function

Hi ,
I'm new to pl/sql programming.
The below function is used inside a package and the package is invoked in visual studio.
The function uses 2 input parameters.
Out of which 'in_report_parameter_id' value comes thru job processor service 's job request.
The second IN paramter values are hard coded in the function.
I'm not able to understand this.
If the values are hard coded , how to make sure that only the hard coded values are the right ones?
Please anyone could explain to me?
I really dont have good idea about how to pass INPUT parameter to the functions or procedure
Is there any nice document which could give me good understanding about what are the ways or types we could pass values to the input parameter in subprograms?

This is not a design I would use, but should work if coded properly. I would probably build a reference cursor query as text and use one open fetch and close.
You have 2 input parameters, in_report_parameter_id and in_which. I could not find where in_report_parameter_id was used in the program, but the value passed in for in_which is being used in IF logic to decide how to open the cursor. After the cursor is open rows are being fetched and eventually the cursor is closed.
The values in_which are compared to are hard-coded. It is the programmer's job to make sure the values listed are the right values and the actions taken are also correct. Your program is assuming that if the first 2 values are not encountered the third one listed is the one you want.
To pass input values to a procedure you merely provide the values as a literal or variable in the call, something like
whatever := get_class_text_str(1,'SELECT');

Convert CHARACTER in Oracle to TIMESTAMP

Hi,
One of the mapping in which our team works has one of the source columns from Oracle with Data type as timestamp.One of the sample data looks like
13-OCT-06 03.10.52.448000 PM.
When we pull in the data structure of source in Informatica, this column appears as a 'LONG RAW'. And it is moved forward in transformation as 'BINARY'.
This mapping fails if we do no modification to the data types in Informatica. We manually edited it to 'DATE', it worked but the data comes out with no Millisecond value in the target; I.e. the data is truncated. We need to retain the milliseconds portion of the date as well.
can anyone guide us how to convert CHARACTER in Oracle to TIMESTAMP, as we find the conversion can help us if we can not do it within Informatica
