Converting flat table to a parent- table

Hi,
I have a flat table with P&L and Balance sheet accounts . The table structure is as follows -
Lvl1 Lvl2 Lvl3 Lvl4 AccountID AccountDesc
There are null values as well in all levels
Lvl1 determines whether the levels below belong to P&L or balance sheet hierarchy i.e Lvl1 = P/L or B/L
Now I was to convert the records into two separate parent child hierarchies - one for P&L and other for Balance sheet.
could you please let me know how it can be done.. Some queries will be really helpful.
Thanks in adavnce!!

Hi,,
Below is the sample data -
Lv1    lv2     lv3   lv4   AccID       AccountDesc
P/L     20     215     211     5550     Admin/Clerical/Management
P/L     20     222     214     5610     Engineers
P/L     20     215     211     5620     Storeperson
P/L     20     212     207     5626     Lab Technicians/Assistants
P/L     20     223     215     5590     Laundry Hand/Operator
P/L     20     216     212     5670     Study Leave
P/L     26     221     219     5450     Fringe Benefits Tax
P/L     10     119     124     9642     Income : Donation-General
P/L     10     121     124     9684     Donations - Lighthouse
P/L     10     121     124     9684     Donations - Baby Friendly
P/L     10     122     130     4300     ED Income
P/L     10     117     122     9733     Car Park Fees
P/L     10     112     112     9798     Accom: Bond Retention
I donot have level description columns yet but will have to add them later..AccID is the leaf level
Hope you can help me now
Target table will be something like this -
parent_id Desc1 Child_Account Desc2
P/L
Thanks in advance

  • How to Insert 3 Column details in a single table from the parent table.

From the Parent Table i need to insert rows which are all under this column {(TradeIn_1_VIN),(TradeIn_2_VIN),(TradeIn_3_VIN) } into SALES_TRADEIN Table .
I have used the below Query,
But it reads only (TradeIn _1_Vin) Column in the SALES_TRADEIN table rest 2 records got skipped..
    INSERT INTO SALES_TRADEIN
    SalesID,
    TradeIn_VIN,
    TradeIn_Make,
    TradeIn_Model,
    TradeIn_ExteriorColor,
    TradeIn_Year,
    TradeIn_Mileage,
    TradeIn_Gross,
    TradeIn_Payoff,
    TradeIn_ACV,
    TradeIn_InteriorColor
    VALUES
    @SalesID,
case when @TradeIn_1_VIN is null then @TradeIn_2_VIN else @TradeIn_1_VIN end,
case when @TradeIn_1_Make is null then @TradeIn_2_Make else @TradeIn_1_Make end,
case when @TradeIn_1_Model is null then @TradeIn_2_Model else @TradeIn_1_Model end,
case when @TradeIn_1_ExteriorColor is null then @TradeIn_2_ExteriorColor else @TradeIn_1_ExteriorColor end,
case when @TradeIn_1_Year is null then @TradeIn_2_Year else @TradeIn_1_Year end,
case when @TradeIn_1_Mileage is null then @TradeIn_2_Mileage else @TradeIn_1_Mileage end,
case when @TradeIn_1_Gross is null then @TradeIn_2_Gross else @TradeIn_1_Gross end,
case when @TradeIn_1_Payoff is null then @TradeIn_2_Payoff else @TradeIn_1_Payoff end,
case when @TradeIn_1_ACV is null then @TradeIn_2_ACV else @TradeIn_1_ACV end,
case when @TradeIn_1_InteriorColor is null then @TradeIn_2_InteriorColor else @TradeIn_1_InteriorColor end
    END TRY
    Actually my problem is
If  [(TradeIn_1_VIN),(TradeIn_2_VIN),(TradeIn_3_VIN)] these 3 columns have details i need all the 3 columns  details need to be read to SALES_TRADEIN table.
Suppose if we have data only in [(TradeIn_1_VIN),(TradeIn_2_VIN)] then these column details need to loaded in the SALES_TRADEIN table.
If any columns are blank no problem it can move next process.
Please help me change those particular lines to insert all the 3 records  (TradeIn_1_VIN) (TradeIn_2_VIN) (TradeIn_3_VIN) in to the table.

you've not given us the full info about the tables. The posted code also makes not much sense to me as all I can see are values getting inserted from some variables which is not required here as your values come from a table and variables can handle only
one set of values a time which would require unnecessary iteration logic.
I think what you need is something like below
    INSERT INTO SALES_TRADEIN
    SalesID,
    TradeIn_VIN,
    TradeIn_Make,
    TradeIn_Model,
    TradeIn_ExteriorColor,
    TradeIn_Year,

    create table child_2(id number primary key,p_id2 number,addr varchar2(1000),
CONSTRAINT FK_id2 FOREIGN KEY (p_id2) REFERENCES parent (ID))
insert some test data to parent and child tables.
alter table child_2 disable constraint FK_id2
alter table child_1 disable constraint FK_id2

  • Join  a Parent Table with 2 Child table based on a value

    Dear Guru's
We have a Parent Table and 2 Child table . The Parent Table has a column like seqtype with only 2 possible values C and S . If the Value is C , then the details are available in Child 1 table and if the Value is S then the Details are in Child 2 table
How can we query the Data from this type of arrangement ? I am little bit confused and hit a road block
Will the following query will work ?
    Select
    from Parent P , Child C1, Child C2
    where P.seqtype = C1.Seqtype
    and P.seqtype = C2.Seqtype
    With Warm Regards
    ssr

You didn't mention the column names in two child tables. Whether the columns are same in 2 tables of these are different.
If the columns are same better to go and change your design to have only one child table. However if stiil business stops you having one table you can use UNION ALL (Assuming you want to fetch same column information from two child tables) like below:
    SELECT p.col1
          ,c1.col2
          ,c1.col3
          ,c1.col4
      FROM parent     p
          ,child      c1
    WHERE p.seqtype = c1.seqtype
    UNION ALL
    SELECT p.col1
          ,c2.col2
          ,c2.col3
          ,c2.col4
      FROM parent     p
          ,child      c2
    WHERE p.seqtype = c2.seqtype Regards

The child table has the parent's primary key in order for it to relate to its parent. Does the dept table (child) have emp table (parent) primary keys as reference, in order for the child to identify its parent? No, it does not.
So how can the emp table be the parent and the dept table the child?
Do you even understand what a parent-child relationship is, or are you guessing?
so i want delete the child table records as per master table(not delete the master only related child table records as per primary key)You use a DELETE SQL statement on the child table, specifying the parent key value of the rows (children) to delete. A siimple:
    DELETE FROM child_table WHERE parent_key = :bindValue

It is very arrogant and unacceptable to demand an urgent answer from this forum.

  • Right way to preserve all parent table entries in a join with many tables!!

This problem is quite interesting to me. I have asked this question to others but no body is able to provide me with proper answers.
The problem is: How do I join a huge parent table with many child tables (more than 5 child tables) preserving all of the parent table entries. Lets say there is the parent table parentTable and three child tables childTable1, childTable2, childTable3. In order to get the data after joining these tables the query that I have been using was:
    select parent.field1, parent.field2, parent.field3, child1.field4, child1.field5, child2.field6, child3.field7 from ParentTable parent, childTable1 child1, childTable1 child2, childTable3 child3 where parent.fielda = child1.fieldb and parent.fieldc = child.fieldd and parent.fielde = child.fieldf.
Although the tables are huge (more than 100,000 entries), this query is very fast, however those parent table entries which do not have child entries are lost. I know that I can left join a parent table with a child table and then with the next child table and then with the next child table and continue. Isn't there a simple solution for this commonly happening problem?
    Please provide suggestions please...

    Hello Lakshmi,
Although I do not know exactly how to achieve what you want to achieve but I have seen DBAs/ABAPers in my experience can run queries/scripts using the COUNT function to give the actual number of line items per table for all your 100 or odd tables.

  • SQL Server 2012 Management Studio:In the Database, how to print out or export the old 3 dbo Tables that were created manually and they have a relationship for 1 Parent table and 2 Child tables? How to handle this relationship in creating a new XML Schema?

    Hi all,
Long time ago, I manually created a Database (APGriMMRP) and 3 Tables (dbo.Table_1_XYcoordinates, dbo.Table_2_Soil, and dbo.Table_3_Water) in my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio (SSMS2012). The dbo.Table_1_XYcoordinates has the following columns: file_id,
Pt_ID, X, Y, Z, sample_id, Boring. The dbo.Table_2_Soil has the following columns: Boring, sample_date, sample_id, Unit, Arsenic, Chromium, Lead. The dbo.Table_3_Water has the following columns: Boring, sample_date, sample_id, Unit, Benzene, Ethylbenzene,
Pyrene. The dbo.Table_1_XYcoordinates is a Parent Table. The dbo.Table_2_Soil and the dbo.Table_3_Water are 2 Child Tables. The sample_id is key link for the relationship between the Parent Table and the Child Tables.
Problem #1) How can I print out or export these 3 dbo Tables?
Problem #2) If I right-click on the dbo Table, I see "Start PowerShell" and click on it. I get the following error messages: Warning: Failed to load the 'SQLAS' extension: An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service.
--> Failed to retrieve data for this request. --> Invalid class.  Warning: Could not obtain SQL Server Service information. An attemp to connect to WMI on 'NAB-WK-02657306' failed with the following error: An exception occurred in SMO while trying
to manage a service. --> Failed to retrieve data for this request. --> Invalid class.  .... PS SQLSERVER:\SQL\NAB-WK-02657306\SQLEXPRESS\Databases\APGriMMRP\Table_1_XYcoordinates>   What causes this set of error messages? How can
I get this problem fixed in my PC that is an end user of the Windows 7 LAN System? Note: I don't have the regular version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 in my PC. I just have the Microsoft 2012 Shell (Integrated) program in my PC.
Problem #3: I plan to create an XML Schema Collection in the "APGriMMRP" database for the Parent Table and the Child Tables. How can I handle the relationship between the Parent Table and the Child Table in the XML Schema Collection?
Problem #4: I plan to extract some results/data from the Parent Table and the Child Table by using XQuery. What kind of JOIN (Left or Right JOIN) should I use in the XQuerying?
Please kindly help, answer my questions, and advise me how to resolve these 4 problems.
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott Chang

In the future, I would recommend you to post your questions one by one, and to the appropriate forum. Of your questions it is really only #3 that fits into this forum. (And that is the one I will not answer, because I have worked very little with XSD.)
    1) Not sure what you mean with "print" or "export", but when you right-click a database, you can select Tasks from the context menu and in this submenu you find "Export data".
    2) I don't know why you get that error, but any particular reason you want to run PowerShell?
    4) If you have tables, you query them with SQL, not XQuery. XQuery is when you query XML documents, but left and right joins are SQL things. There are no joins in XQuery.
As for left/right join, notice that these two are equivalent:
    SELECT ...
    FROM   a LEFT JOIN b ON a.col = b.col
    SELECT ...
    FROM   b RIGHT JOIN a ON a.col = b.col
But please never use RIGHT JOIN - it gives me a headache!
There is nothing that says that you should use any of the other. In fact, if you are returning rows from parent and child, I would expect an inner join, unless you want to cater for parents without children.
Here is an example where you can study the different join types and how they behave:
CREATE TABLE apple (a int         NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
                        b varchar(23) NOT NULL)
    INSERT apple(a, b)
       VALUES(1, 'Granny Smith'),
             (2, 'Gloster'),
             (4, 'Ingrid-Marie'),
             (5, 'Milenga')
CREATE TABLE orange(c int        NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
                        d varchar(23) NOT NULL)
    INSERT orange(c, d)
       VALUES(1, 'Agent'),
             (3, 'Netherlands'),
             (4, 'Revolution')
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
    CROSS  JOIN orange
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
    INNER  JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
LEFT   OUTER JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
RIGHT  OUTER JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
FULL OUTER JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    go
    DROP TABLE apple, orange

  • Deleting a row from parent table

    Dear Guru's
I am having two table with parent - child relationship. My problem is when I am deleting a row from parent table the curresponding child row from child table also should be deleted.
My Primary table 'Employee, EMPID Primary key
Child table 'Privilage' inthis EMPID referencing the EMPID of Employee table
My need is when I am deleting a row from parent table the curresponding child row from child table also should be deleted
I issued the SQL query like,
    delete from employee where empid='12345' cascade constraints;
Then it showing me error like,
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
Please resolve my issue , Its Top urgent
    Thanks & Cheers

Choosing How Foreign Keys Enforce Referential Integrity
Oracle Database allows different types of referential integrity actions to be enforced, as specified with the definition of a FOREIGN KEY constraint:
Prevent Delete or Update of Parent Key The default setting prevents the deletion or update of a parent key if there is a row in the child table that references the key. For example:
    CREATE TABLE Emp_tab (
FOREIGN KEY (Deptno) REFERENCES Dept_tab);Delete Child Rows When Parent Key Deleted The ON DELETE CASCADE action allows parent key data that is referenced from the child table to be deleted, but not updated. When data in the parent key is deleted, all rows in the child table that depend on the deleted parent key values are also deleted. To specify this referential action, include the ON DELETE CASCADE option in the definition of the FOREIGN KEY constraint. For example:
    CREATE TABLE Emp_tab (
        FOREIGN KEY (Deptno) REFERENCES Dept_tab
ON DELETE CASCADE); Set Foreign Keys to Null When Parent Key Deleted The ON DELETE SET NULL action allows data that references the parent key to be deleted, but not updated. When referenced data in the parent key is deleted, all rows in the child table that depend on those parent key values have their foreign keys set to null. To specify this referential action, include the ON DELETE SET NULL option in the definition of the FOREIGN KEY constraint. For example:
    CREATE TABLE Emp_tab (
        FOREIGN KEY (Deptno) REFERENCES Dept_tab
            ON DELETE SET NULL);
    SQL> conn scott/tiger
    Connected.
    SQL> create table ppk ( no number primary key);
    Table created.
    SQL> begin for inn in 1..10 loop insert into ppk values (inn); end loop; end;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> create table ffk ( no number references ppk(no));
    Table created.
    SQL> begin for inn in 1..10 loop insert into ffk values (inn); end loop; end;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> drop table ppk cascade constraints;

  • How to store the flat file data into custom table?

    Hi,
Iam working on inbound interface. Can any one tell me how to store the flat file data into custom table?what is the procedure?
    Regards,
    Sujan

    Hie
    u can use function
    F4_FILENAME
to pick the file from front-end or location.
    then use function
    WS_UPLOAD
    to upload into
    AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON VALUE-REQUEST FOR p_file.
CALL FUNCTION 'F4_FILENAME'   "Function to pick file
        EXPORTING
          field_name = 'p_file'     "file
        IMPORTING
          file_name  = p_file.     "file
      CALL FUNCTION 'WS_UPLOAD'
       EXPORTING
         filename                       = p_file1
        TABLES
          data_tab                      = it_line
*then loop at it_line splitting it into the fields of your custom table.
    loop at it_line.
              split itline at ',' into
              itab-name
              itab-surname.
    endloop.
then u can insert the values into yo table from the itab work area.

  • Converting Word (97-2003) docs with tables

I have tried converting a few Word docs with tables using Acrobat.com. There is one small image in the upper right corner that in the converted doc stays in the same place so I know that is not the issue. What happens is that the converted document takes a nicely formatted document with tables and nested tables and turns it into a 4 page document and places all of the information in a larger table in the first column and looks nothing like the original with the exception of the header.
I figured out that if I save the file to ODT that only the font gets changed (but this can be fix on my end by using a supported font). However, the person responsible for converting documents in the future after me neither has Acrobat pro or a way to save files in ODT format (they refuse to upgrade to Word 2007 for some reason so no ODT or Convert the PDF/XPS plug-in for them) so Acrobat.com is a sollution I was looking into to keep productivity going.
If needed, I can send the original documents for anyone who would like to troubleshoot them and give feedback on what I could try so that they will work on Acrobat.com in ODT format.

Thank you for your post. Would you please send along some sample files to us? Please reference this forum post, and I'll pass the files along to our QA folks for testing. Hopefully we'll be able to resolve the issue shortly! One more thought - you might try either creating your original document in Buzzword, then converting to PDF OR importing the word file to Buzzword, making any edits, and then converting to PDF. Could help. Let us know!

  • How to check that my table is parent table or child table before trucating

    Hi:
say i wanted to trucate a table .the table might be a parent table or might be a child table.if its a child table then there wouldnt be any problems in truncating.
if its a parent table the i believe i would have to diable all the foreign key constraints from the child table referring to the parent table ..my question is
    1. i have a table say ABC. before truncating how do i find out if table ABC is a parent table or not?
2.lets assume i tried to truncate the table ABC and i got the error saying that disable the foreign keys on the child table referring to the parent table ABC.
in my schema there are say 50 tables.out of which there might be 10 odd child tables referring to my parent table ABC.
so my question here would be how do i specifically find out these 10child tables referring to the Parent table ABC so that i can disable the foreign keys on the child tables.
Thanks 4 ur time in reading this and hopefully i think u wld give me a solution!!

    Hi,
    Try this SQL below:
    select r.owner, r.table_name
    from user_constraints r, user_constraints o
    where r.r_owner = o.owner and r.r_constraint_name = o.constraint_name
    and o.constraint_type in ('P','U') and r.constraint_type = 'R'
    and o.table_name = 'ABC';Cheers

  • How to delete parent table data even though it has child records

    hi all,
How to delete parent table data even though it has child records.
    ex: delete from pa_request cascade constraints;
But this command is not working .
    Regards,
    P Prakash

    833560 wrote:
ex: delete from pa_request cascade constraints;cascade constraints is DROP table option. It can't be used with DELETE. You need to delete child rows first or drop foreign keys and recreate them with ON DELETE CASCADE. Then:
delete from pa_request will automatically delete child rows. However, personally I don't like ON DELETE CASCADE. You can, by mistake, delete half of your database without even realizing it.
