Converting Movie taken on iPhone to play on Windows OS

I have recorded a couple of videos on my iPhone 4, synced them into iPhoto. They play perfectly on iPhone and macBook. On macBook they play through Quicktime. I want to put these movies onto a DVD and need them to play on Windows machines. I have made various attempts by exporting via QT but have had no luck at Windows recognising and playing the files. Can anyone tell me how I should be doing this please. Do I need to buy software to do it? Also they wouldn't play on one of my home DVD players (an expensive one) but did play on a combined TV/DVD player totally confused with all this, been trying for over a week to do this.

Any ideas how to rotate the movie please.
What you can or should do depends on your specific situation, goal, and/or app/system you plan to use.
Background Info:
Your iPhone embeds the correct playback orientation information within the file.
If you play the file in QT-based apps, it should play correctly in the original portrait orientation as is.
If you play the file in most third-party apps, the orientation data will be ignored and the file will automatically play in a landscape (sideways) orientation.
Any QT based app that plays the file in the correct orientation and has "Export" capabilities can re-encode the file in the correct orientation by simply exporting the file data to a new file. (Be advised that apps like QT X may need to "force" an export—otherwise it will simply perform a "Save As..." operation—while apps like QT 7 Pro have separate Export and Save As... features.)
Any conversion app that ignores the embedded orientation data and has "rotate" and export features can rotate and export the file in its correct orientation.
Since you have not indicated what apps/systems may be available to you, I would normally recommend an app like MPEG Streamclip which is both free and available for use by Mac and Windows users.

Of course you'll also need some kind of software to actually burn the DVD.

I put many movies on my iphone... currently have 650 songs, 3 full length movies and four 1/2 hour tv shows.
Size of an encoded movie depends on two things: bit rate (bits per second) and movie length. I use 480x320(which is really 480x208) and 960bps and most movies are 800mb to 1.1gb. I have used the higher resolution of 640x480 and 1.6mbps and these yield movies around 1.6-1.9gb, but not a huge difference in quality that you can tell on the screen (only on a computer can you tell the difference - which IS noticeable).
You can go low and encode movies at 320x240 (which is more like 320x176) and 600-700bps and probably be around 5-700mb per, but the image starts to become soft and you lose the sharpness that the iphone screen is capable of.

  • Getting Final Cut Express movie (burned using idvd) to play in Windows

I have made my Final Express movie into a dvd using idvd. However, it will not play on Windows media player, even though it plays on a regular dvd player. I am not certain why, but is there a way I can make it compatible? I have tried even burning it as a "disk image." I know I made it work before, but I can't recall exactly what I did previously to make it play in Windows media player. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, I have never found a way around this. It seems like DVDs created in iDVD are incompatible with some DVD players and most PCs that I have tried.

  • Movies taken with iPhone not showing up in iMovie or iPhoto.

I took a video with my iPhone last night.  My photos on my iPhone are showing in iPhoto, but the video is not.  In iMovie I am seeing videos from 5 years ago, but none of the recent ones.  What am I doing wrong?

If you're referring to photostream, it doesn't sync videos.
Video will need to be imported into iMovie before you can edit it.

  • Made movie on MacBook Pro, wont play in Windows?

I made a movie in iMovie on my Macbook Pro and exported it as a 720p Quicktime movie. It plays fine on my Mac, but it will not play on any of my 3 Windows machines.
Am I missing a setting or something?

    H.264 will work on Windows.
We are cross posting now and I think I've confused you.
Something else is wrong on the PC. Can you view the 720 files at this link:

  • Movie in idvd won't play on windows pc

I make lot's of movies with imovie and burn them in idvd. My mac and other dvd players play the movies just fine. However, the windows pc of my co-workjers do not play the movies. Any suggestions for me ? They want to bash Macintosh because I am the Only mac user--I won't give in--but this scenario isn't helping me defend my mac. I hope someone can help me -so I can keep my mac--thanks for any advice!

In this forum some months ago, it was claimed that PC/windows error correction software wasn't very effective. One suggestion is to try the oft-recommended solution to reduce burning errors by using high quality media (Vebatim is a favorite around here; I like Sony on sale) and to burn the DVDs from disk images so you can reduce the burn speed to 1x or 2x with Roxio Toast or Disk Utility.

  • Converting movies and moving to iPhone

    Hello,
I recently downloaded some free travel movies from iTunes. They were HD quality, but only less than 3 minutes long each.
Yesterday I selected 5 of them and, in iTunes, went to the menu > Advanced > Create iPod or iPhone Version. It took a long time, I let them convert overnight.
This morning, after they were finished, I tried dragging them onto my iPhone, but they wouldn't copy over. What am I doing wrong?
(Specifics: The original size of the movies as they appear in my Podcast list on my hard drive are 1280 x 720 and 89 mgs each. The new/converted movies that appear in my Movies list are 640 by 360 and 39.4 mg. I try dragging the new/converted movies onto my iPhone and they will not copy over.)
I am on an iMac with the latest OS, latest version of iTunes and latest software for my iPhone. Thank you.

Hi Ricciolo,  I MAY be able to help out here. I found a program "Any Video Converter" that I have been using since I got iPhone 3G. This link should take you to it http://www.any-video-converter.com/any-video-converter-free.exe
Yes this is a Free Version and works fine for me see no reason to pay for something here. Let me know if this one works for you or you found something better. I like free as I have been paying for decades. Buon Giorno

  • Home movie conversion to iPhone

My home movie plays fine when it's in iTunes or Quicktime on my laptop - but faster on the iPhone!
I imported my home movie into iTunes and then under Advanced I selected "Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone" -- for playing on my iPhone. BUT the transferred iPhone movie plays at time and a half--much faster than normal.
I read somewhere that I could also use QuickTime Pro--but that didn't work either.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Help! Movies from iPhone 5 play in slow motion when opened in Quicktime on PC

    Hi there,
I was hoping someone may have the answer or have encountered this problem as well, as I have been unable to find anything on it elsewhere on the net.
I have transferred some movies, taken on my iPhone 5, to my PC. However when they are opened in Quicktime (as recommended) they play in slow motion.
However, the sound still plays at normal speed.
I have already tried going into the QT settings where you can speed up the playback, but this doesn't work either, no matter how fast I set it to - they still play super slow.
Although they are taking up heaps of space, I am worried to delete the movies off the iPhone in case they have not copied over properly and I lose the originals!
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks!

Hi Matthias, thanks for your response!
We are running on Windows XP, is that what you mean? I will try and download the VLC player and see what happens. Are iPhone 5 movies higher res than iPhone 4, as we can play those?
If it is the system, do you know whether or not if I save the movies to our PC, then transfer than to another computer, should they play ok? I just don't want to delete them off my phone and have them permanently slow, iykwim?
Sorry if my ignorance is showing - I'm not overly tech savvy when it comes to this stuff!
    Many thanks again!

  • 'Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone' makes my movies silent. Why?

When I choose the 'Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone' option so that I can put my movies on my iPod, all of the audio becomes silent. The picture is fine and only the music/words go away.
Why? And, if there's a way, how can I fix it?
(These movies are either from a camera or from friends.... 'mpg' files.)

Thanks for the reply, but iTunes did not create a new file. I looked in Movies and in TV Shows, and in Music just to be careful, but there is still only one file, the one that doesn't play on my iPhone. I even looked in my iTunes Music folder for a file it may have created an just not imported, but there is nothing there either.

  • Videos sent as email attachment not playing on iPhone. Even videos taken by iPhone. If rcvd via SMS I have no problem viewing. HELP

I am having issues viewing videos on Iphone that have been sent to me as email attachments, it's just a black screen. If I get them via SMS I can see them.

    Tbo6652,
The video has to be in the proper format for the iPhone to play it correctly. As taken from the [iPhone Tech Specs|http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html] page:
Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.
    Hope this helps,
