Converting string format of a number to numeric.

Hi,
I use the NumberFormat classes to convert a number to it's string formatted representation in the given locale. How do I achieve the opposite?
I mean, how do I convert a String value of +"23,233,23"+ to an integer value 2323323?

I have a question regardting converting string of numbers to the floating bumbers and plot for voltage vs. weight.
The load cell for the ADC resolution is 16 bits, and the voltage will be in between +-5 volts.
The problem, I have the most is converting the string of numbers to the floating numbers, in my case is the weight.

When you say "string of numbers" do you mean an array? What is the specific issue you are having? You seem to have orange wires running all over the place. Give a small example demonstrating the problem.

How to convert String "(50-10)" to number and get output as 40 as a number.

Hi,
I have a string with formula, eg: String formula="(ABC-DEF)";
I replaced the values of ABC and DEF in the above string now I have formula="(50-10)";
How can I calculate the above value and get output (40)as a number like int or double.

Values for ABC and DEF are coming from different java collections like HashMap or ArrayList etc. The formulas can be complex which need some string manipulations and atlast I will get a string like "(50-10)" or "(20+(Math.SQRT(25)/Math.Power(2,3)))". Here all the numbers are values for variables like ABC or DEF coming from different hashmaps and arraylists based on different conditions.

You need to provide an example value that's failing and the date formats in the reference data you're using. It's more than likely you don't have the correct format in your ref data.

Convert String to Date and Format the Date Expression in SSRS

I have a parameter used to select a month and year string that looks like:    jun-2013
I can convert it to a date, but what I want to do is, when a user selects a particular month-year  (let's say "jun-2013")
I populate one text box with the date the user selected , and (the challenge Im having is) I want to populate a text box next to the first text box with the month-year 2 months ahead.    So if the user selects
jun-2013   textbox A will show jun-2013
and textbox B will show aug-2013..
I have tried:
=Format(Format(CDate(Parameters!month.Value ),
"MM-YYYY" )+ 2 )   -- But this gives an error
This returns the month in number format   like "8"    for august...
=Format(Format(CDate(Parameters!month.Value ),
"MM" )+ 2 )
What is the proper syntax to give me the result    in this format = "aug-2013" ???

You can convert a string that represents a date to a date object using the util.scand JavaScript method, and then format a date object to a string representation using the util.printd method. For more information, see:

In your case, the code would be something like:

The exact code you'd use depends on where you place the script and where you're getting the original date string, but this should get you started.

Convert HH:mm:ss String format.

I have a formula in webI to display Milliseconds to HH:mm:ss and is in String format.
Is there a way to convert to date or number format?.
Also, how to calculate average of Max and Min time?.

To take a average time do following-
1) Convert Min Time and Max Time into Seconds.
MaxSec=ToNumber(Substr([MaxTime];1;2))*60*60+ToNumber(Substr([MaxTime];4;2))*60+ToNumber(Substr([MaxTime];7;2))
MinSec=ToNumber(Substr([MinTime];1;2))*60*60+ToNumber(Substr([MinTime];4;2))*60+ToNumber(Substr([MinTime];7;2))
2) calculate approximate Avg seconds-
AvgSec=([MaxSec]+[MinSec])/2
3) Convert AvgSec in to hh:mm:ss.
AvgTime=Floor([AvgSec]/3600 )+":"+Floor(Mod([AvgSec];3600)/60)+":"+Mod(Mod([AvgSec];3600);60)

     }Hi, I have the above method that converts a string Number into a int value. It works fine if the string is a normal number 234 (without spaces) but I have a string in the following format:
*(space)�23,000(space).*
That is I have a "space" then a "Pound" sign then two numbers then a comma followed by three numbers and then a space again.
Is there any way I can convert this format into a simple int value?

I just met a stupid question which made me crazy, please help.
The question is simple:
Target: Numeric floating control-> number to fraction string -> format value -> desirable string format
For example: 20.00 -> 20.00000 (Q1: why extra 0s?)-> "20.00"

Because you haven't read the context help for "Number to fractional string"! Especially the sentences on those two additional inputs of that function (Q1)...
I would suggest using FormatIntoString like that:
(I tried to replicate your example, but your wiring is very bad: it's not clear which wire is connected to which input...)

I'm pretty sure it won't understand what date.toString() returns. If you know what format the database understands, you do it like this:
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yy"); // e.g. 18-Apr-02
String datestring = sdf.parse(date);
and use that instead of date in your sql string. Some databases understands it if you do
"to_date('18-Apr-02')"
so you could include that in your sql string as well..
You could also try to make it a java.sql.Date and hope your jdbc driver knows how to convert it to a string that the database understands if you don't know the format:

PreparedStatement ps = con.prepareStatement("select date1 from table1 where date1 <= ?");
ps.setDate(new java.sql.Date(date.getTime()));

There is a class called StringUtils.
You only have to write:
String rightJustified = StringUtils.rightPad("John Doe", 40);
If you don't find something in the JDK look at Jakarta. They have a lot of useful stuff.

my web service receives a xml as an input in string format.
it is passed to other web services for processing purpose.
during execution of each web service, I need to extract some node values multiple times which causes performance overhead.
can I convert the input xml (as string) into xsd structure (similar to OTD) so that I can simply map it while passing it to other web services? it should save me unnecessary extraction of same nodes in other web services.
how to do it?

Within the JBI environment, the XML message is typically passed around as a DOM Document (wrapped as a TRAX DOMSource), so the document is parsed only once. This should be very quick, even when evaluating XPath functions to find parts of the document repeatedly. DOM and OTD aren't that dissimilar, so you should be comfortable with it.
When sending the XML message "across the wire", you are forced to serialize to XML again. This is the foundation of interoperability and loose coupling.
Sometimes converting the XML to a more convenient form (different schema) can help make it easier/quicker to run queries against.

How to convert BLOB data into string format.

I have problem while converting blob data into string format.
for example,
Select dbms_lob.substr(c.shape.Get_wkb(),4000,1) from geotable c
will get me the first 4000 byte of BLOB .
When i using SQL as i did above,the max length is 4000, but i can get 32K using plsql as below:

return my_var;
I comfortably convert 32k BLOB field to string.
My problem is how to convert blob to varchar having size more than 32K.
