Converting XMP data to LR Database

If you have images which already have sidecar XMP files, is there a way to have all the info contained in these XMPs imported into the LR database so that the XMP files can be then be deleted?
Thxs
Colin

As I understand things, LR already holds this data in the db. Therefore you could delete the xmp files if you don't ever want an xmp application such as PS CSx to know about any Metadata changes you have made in LR.
If you do want to sometimes have Bridge or PS CSx know about the Metadata, you will have to write to xmp for that or those photos. Myself, I use DNG for my RAW [cr2] files, my JPEG files, my TIF files, and my PSD files. The Metadata is written to those DNG files when I ask it to happen [not have "autowrite to xmp" checked.
I plan to keep writing my Metadata to DNG so I don't have to remember whether I need to or not. I do it manually with CTRL+S.
One caution, I would make sure that all of the Metadata in your XMP files is written to the db before deleting and remember if you do anything to the file in PS CSx or Bridge, make sure you understand that you now have an XMP file again.
I hope the above is right [cause if not, then I am screwed up too]
Maybe do a small test on some duplicated files?

  • Convert XMP Date and Time

    Hi, in my script I am trying to read the Date and Time using the XMP functions of a selected file in bridge.  Then, I want to convert that date and time into a format that looks like: "01/12/10 | 01:23 PM" and write that to another metadata field like the description.  Im stuck on trying to convert the date and time into what I want it to look like?  Can anyone help, thanks!
    Here is the part of the code I'm having trouble with:
    When I read the dateTimeOriginal property of the file, it is in an unfriendly format.  It looks odd and shows the time zone.  The commented lines is code that I have tried, but didn't work.  I was trying to convert the XMPDateTime object into a Date object so I can adjust the format, but I haven't been successful.
    var myXmpFile = new XMPFile( selectedFile.fsName, XMPConst.UNKNOWN, XMPConst.OPEN_FOR_UPDATE);
          var myXmp = myXmpFile.getXMP();
          var Name = myXmp.getProperty(XMPConst.NS_EXIF, "DateTimeOriginal");
          var date = new XMPDateTime(new Date(Name));
          var date2 = new Date(date);
          //dateFormat.masks.portfolioDate = 'mm/dd/yy "|" hh:MM TT';
    //date.format("portfolioDate");
    //date2.format("mm/dd/yy");
    alert(date2.toString());
    Name.convertToLocalTime();
    Name.toString();
    alert(Name);

    Thanks for helping me out Paul.  I just have one more small problem.  I am trying to access the Headline XMP property, and I know i need to use the IPTC Core property, but it doesn't seem to work.  Here is my current code, can you help me out?
    var selectedFile = thumb.spec;
    var myXmpFile = new XMPFile( selectedFile.fsName, XMPConst.UNKNOWN, XMPConst.OPEN_FOR_UPDATE);
    var myXmp = myXmpFile.getXMP();
    var xmpString = myXmp.getProperty(XMPConst.NS_EXIF, "DateTimeOriginal").toString();
                alert(xmpString);
    var xmpString2 = myXmp.getProperty(XMPConst.NS_IPTC_CORE, "Headline").toString();
    alert(xmpString2);
    var dat =xmpString.match(/(\d+).(\d+).(\d+).(\d+).(\d+).(\d+)/);
    var amOrPm = "AM";
    var hours = Number(dat[4]);
    if (hours > 11) amOrPm = "PM";
    if (hours > 12) hours = hours - 12;
    if (hours > 11) amOrPm = "PM";
    if (hours < 10) hours = '0' + hours;
    var dateString = dat[2]+"/"+dat[3]+"/"+dat[1].substr (2) +" | "+ hours +':'+dat[5]+ ' ' +amOrPm;

  • Converting Informix data to Oracle 10g

    Hi,
    We are planning to convert data on Informix 5.x based legacy system over to Oracle 10g.
    Wondering if anyone would like to share some light on this process, experience, use of Oracle or Other tools..
    Regards,
    Subhash

    Are you looking to convert your data alone or do you wish to maintain the structure of the your legacy system? If you wish to retain the structure of your legacy system then something like like the oracle workbench may be what you are looking for. If you are just trying to convert your data from one database application to another then you just need an analyst map out your conversion needs and a good conversion programmer to convert the data.

  • How can i convert the data from mutiple-table to the other database(MSSQL)?

    Dears,
    How can i convert the data from mutiple-table to the other database such as MS-SQL?
    I have a third party system based on MS-SQL 2000.
    Now we want to make a integration between SAP R/3(Oracle) and SQL server.
    When my user releases the purchase order in R/3, the application we coded will convert the releated data to the temp database on the SQL server.
    But i don't know which tools will help me reach the purpose.  BAPI, LSMW, IDoc... ???
    Would anybody tell me which way is better and how to do?
    Thanks a lot!
    Kevin Wang

    Hello Kevin,
    The question to use which method depend on your detail requirements. If you use BAPI, you need to find which Bapi can provide the data you want. Bapi normally use as a function called by external system. So you need to develop an external program like VB/Java to call this Bapi and move it to SQL. LSMW is use when you want to upload data from an external system to SAP. So it does not serve your requirement. Idoc can be use to export data to an external system. Again like Bapi, you need to find what Idoc can provide the data you want. However, it does not any programming from the external system. If I were you, based on your requirements, I think writing an Abap program that read the data you want and download it to NT/SQL server will be faster and easier.

    asktom.oracle.com has an excellent article on writing a PL/SQL procedure that dumps data to an Excel spreadsheet-- search for 'Excel' and it'll come up.
    You can also use your favorite connection protocol (ODBC, OLE DB, etc) to connect from Excel to Oracle and pull the data out that way.

  • How to get Date value from database and display them in a drop down list?

    Hello.
    In my Customers table, I have a column with Date data type. I want to create a form in JSP, where visitors can filter Customers list by year and month.

    Hi
    What part is your biggest problem?? I am not experienced in getting data out of a database, but the way to get a variable amount of data to show in a drop down menu, i have just messed around with for some time and heres how i solved it... In my app, what i needed was, a initial empty drop down list, and then using input from a text-field, users could add elements to a Vector that was passed to a JComboBox. Heres how.
    package jcombobox;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.util.Vector;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Main extends JApplet implements ActionListener {
        private Vector<SomeClass> list = new Vector<SomeClass>();
        private JComboBox dropDownList = new JComboBox(list);
        private JButton addButton = new JButton("add");
        private JButton remove = new JButton("remove");
        private JTextField input = new JTextField(10);
        private JPanel buttons = new JPanel();
        public Main() {
            addButton.addActionListener(this);
            remove.addActionListener(this);
            input.addActionListener(this);
            buttons.setLayout(new FlowLayout());
            buttons.add(addButton);
            buttons.add(remove);
            add(dropDownList, "North");
            add(input, "Center");
            add(buttons, "South");
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
            if (e.getSource() == addButton) {
                list.addElement(new SomeClass(input.getText()));
                input.setText("");
            } else if (e.getSource() == remove) {
                int selected = dropDownList.getSelectedIndex();
                dropDownList.removeItemAt(selected);
        public void init(String[] args) {
            setSize(400,300);
            getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout());
            getContentPane().add(new Main());
    }And that "SomeClass" is show here
    package jcombobox;
    public class SomeClass {
        private String text;
        public SomeClass(String input) {
            text = input;
        public String toString() {
            return text;
    }One of the things i struggled a lot with was to get the dropdown menu to show some usefull result. If the list just contains class references it will show the memory code that points to that class. Thats where the toString cones in handy. But it took me some time to figure that one out, a laugh here is welcome as it should have been obvious :-)
    When the app is as simple as this one, using a <String> vector would have been easier, but this is just to demonstrate how to place classes in a vector and get some usefull info out of it, hope this answered some of your question :-)
    The layout might have been easier to write, than using the toppanel created by the JApplet and then the two additional JPanels, but it was just a small app brewed together in 15 minutes. Please comments on my faults, so that i can learn of it.
    If you need any of the code specified more, please let me know. Ill be glad to,

  • Updating array data in sql database

    HI,
    Im facing problems in updating array data in SQL database.
    As of now, i am able to write an "insert" query and insert array data in an image datatype field. Im using image datatype because the array size is very big(around 80,000 x and y values).
    Althoug inserting data is easy im unable to write a query to update this data.
    Referring to the help of SQL server and Labview database connectivity toolkit, i came across a method of accessing image datatype....using textpointers, which are 16 bit binary values and using the WRITETEXT function instead of the UPDATE function.
    but the problem im facing is that ive to pass the array as a 2d string array in the query as a result the updated array is retrieved in the form of a string a
    nd not as an array. how do I get over this problem?

    Hi Pavitra,
    I'm not very clear on how you have inserted the data into your application, but I do know that when you call the UPDATETEXT or WRITETEXT function you use the TEXTPOINTERS to point to the first location of a 1d array. So, depending on how you've stored the data, you may have problems updating your data if you're looking at it as a 1d array instead of how you originally formatted it. If you are able to successfully access the data as a 1d array, you can use the database variant to data type vi and pass in a string array constant for the data type. This will convert the variant datatype into whatever you specify. You may have to index the row and column of the variant (you receive a 2d array of variant) first before you convert. If possible, can yo
    u provide some more detail and maybe some example code of how you perform the insert and plan to do the update? I can probably give you a better solution if I know how you are formatting the data. Thanks!

  • Convert a date in String format to a Date

    Hi,

    I have tried:

    System.out.println("New Datum = "+aba);

    try {
    s.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {}
    try {

    } catch (SQLException e) {}
    I'm getting the following errors:
    COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.DB2Exception: [IBM][CLI Driver][DB2/NT] SQL0180N
    The syntax of the representation of a date/time of day value as character sequence is false. .SQLSTATE=22007

    I'm pretty sure it won't understand what date.toString() returns. If you know what format the database understands, you do it like this:
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yy"); // e.g. 18-Apr-02
    String datestring = sdf.parse(date);
    and use that instead of date in your sql string. Some databases understands it if you do
    "to_date('18-Apr-02')"
    so you could include that in your sql string as well..
    You could also try to make it a java.sql.Date and hope your jdbc driver knows how to convert it to a string that the database understands if you don't know the format:
    con = getConnection();
    PreparedStatement ps = con.prepareStatement("select date1 from table1 where date1 <= ?");
    ps.setDate(new java.sql.Date(date.getTime()));
    ResultSet rs = s.executeQuery(sql);

  • How to convert XML data into binary data (opaque data)

    Hi,
    I am trying to develop a process that delivers files after reading data from a database.
    However, it is required not to deliver the data immediately. We want to perform some checks before the files get written.
    So the way we want to design this is,
    1. Read data from database (or any other input). The data is in XML format (this is a requirement, as in general, we have xml data)
    2. This data is written, opaquely, to a JMS queue that can store binary data, along with what is the filename of the file that would be written (filename is passed using JMS Headers)
    3. When required, another process reads the JMS queue's binary data, and dumps into a file
    The reason I want to use opaque data while inserting in the JMS queue is, that enables me to develop a single process in Step 3 that can write any file, irrespective of the format.
    My questions are
    1. How to convert the xml data to opaque data. In BPEL I may use a embedded java, but how about ESB. Any other way....?
    2. how to pass filename to the jms queue, when payload is opaque. Can I use a header attribute...custom attributes?
    3. Which jms message type is better for this kind of requirement - SYS.AQ$_JMS_BYTES_MESSAGE or SYS.AQ$_JMS_STREAM_MESSAGE

    Ana,
    We are doing the same thing--using one variable with the schema as the source of the .xsl and assigning the resulting html to another variable--the content body of the email, in our case. I just posted how we did it here: Re: Using XSLT to generate the email HTML body

  • How to convert raw data to original data

    Hi,
    I'm using db10g.
    I have stored the blob of a word doc into the database using dbms_lob package.
    Now during retrieval, i'm getting the raw data using the code
    dbms_lob.read( l_lob, l_amt, l_off, l_raw );

    I think I have clearly told that i have blobs of different files in my database.
    The files are of different type, I have blob of pdf,doc,html,xml,gif etc...
    and in the procedure i have posted(get_file_contents), it is a database procedure and i'm calling it from the forms.
    So i'm passing the file_name and file_id to the procedure(file_name and file_id are the columns in the table.
    Table 'Blob_Details' have 4 columns file_id,file_name,file_type,theblob) and a varchar variable final_data.
    final_data varchar(32000)
    and in the procedure i'm taking the blob from database, reading it using dbms_lob.read in a loop and casting it to varchar and storing the contents in the variable final_data.
    So coming out of the loop, the variable final_data will have the contents of the given file.BLOB data (such as word or excel documents and PDFs containing images etc.) are Binary data, not Character data. Converting that raw binary data to VARCHAR will cause issues.
    If you have loaded a binary file and stored it on the database as a BLOB (Binary data) and you now want to create the original file from that BLOB, you will simply need to read the BLOB data from the database into BLOB variable and process it in chunks, using UTL_FILE to write out, in Binary mode, that data to a file with the appropriate filename. The actual process is quite simple...
    As sys user:
    CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY MY_FILES AS 'c:\myfiles';
    GRANT READ,WRITE ON DIRECTORY MY_FILES TO myuser;As myuser:
    DECLARE
       -- Data Variables

       v_chunk   CONSTANT NUMBER := 32767; -- maximum chunk size

       fh                 UTL_FILE.file_type;
    BEGIN
       v_blob := ... populate the blob variable here
       v_data_length := DBMS_LOB.getlength (v_blob);
       -- Open the file
       fh := UTL_FILE.fopen ('MY_FILES', 'myfile.dat', 'wb', v_chunk);
       LOOP
          -- Exit when our file offset is bigger than our file
          EXIT WHEN v_offset > v_data_length;
          -- Write the output chunk by chunk
          UTL_FILE.put_raw (fh, DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR (v_blob, v_chunk, v_offset), TRUE);
          -- Increment the offset by the amount written
          v_offset := v_offset + v_chunk;
       END LOOP;
       -- Close the file
       UTL_FILE.fclose (fh);

  • Character integrity issue after data conversion in database/JDBC

    Hi
    I am using oracle 9i with the following NLS setting:
    NLS_LANGUAGE :AMERICANS
    NLS_CHARACTERSET : UTF8
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET :AL16UTF16
    I am running on Linux with this as my environment Language:
    Lang: en_US.UTF8
    I am sending hindi characters in XML file (UTF-8 encoding) to my java application to be stored in the database. In my xml file, I give this encoding (ignore the double quotes, reason for putting in the quotes so that the browser will not interpret it)
    "&#x928";"&#x92E";"&#x938";"&#x94D";"&#x924";"&#x947"
    But the characters appeared unreadable in the database. When I use Select DUMP to check the characters encoding:
    Typ=1 Len=12 CharacterSet=UTF8: 0,28,0,2e,0,38,0,4d,0,24,0,47
    When I retrieve data from the database via my application, the weird characters will appear.
    However, if i manually input the hindi characters into the column of the table, then the Hindi characters appear correctly. When I do a DUMP to check, this is what I get:
    Typ=1 Len=12 CharacterSet=UTF8: 9,28,9,2e,9,38,9,4d,9,24,9,47
    When I check the unicode chart here http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0900.pdf, the second DUMP result is correct. When I retrieve data from the database via my application, the correct hindi string appear.
    I understand that in Java the encoding is in UTF-16 and Oracle JDBC will convert from UTF-16 to UTF-8 before storing in my database and vice versa. The thing that puzzles me is why correct hindi string appears on my web interface when that the same conversion is used to extract the data from the database. At first I suspect it is the conversion problem in JDBC when the UTF-16 characters get truncated to UTF-8 when I try to store the data to database. But when good data is stored in the database, the extraction seems to be correct albeit that it is going through the same conversion.
    I read from several threads of this forum and also the Oracle Globalization Support article but I cannot find an answer to my question.
    Can anyone help? Thanks.

    A couple of checkpoints for you:
    1. When you load the XML from SXMB_MONI in the test tab of message mapping it turns red..this means the constructed XML (from CC content conversion) doesnt match the one (XSD) defined in your ESR/IR. In this case you have to check again thoroughly the file content conversion fields values/field length in the sender Communication chaneel.
    2. Once you rectify the error above then you can test the mapping in ESR message mapping.

  • How to insert multi language data to oracle database

    Hi ,
    Can any one suggest the steps involved in implementing storage/retrieval of data in the language otherthan english on the database?. I am using Oracle 9i database.
    I want to write sql scripts to insert data to the database.How can i insert the data in the language otherthan english i.e hindi. ensuring storage and display of data is fine at the backend.
    CHARACTERSET is set AL32UTF8 and need to insert the data in the NVARCHAR2 datatype enabled column.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,

    If you can write the text in Notepad, then enter the text and save the file with the encoding "Unicode big endian". Then, open the file in a hex editor. The first two bytes will be 0xFE and 0xFF (this is the Byte Order Mark). This code should be skipped for database storage as it is relevant to flat files only. What follows are two-byte character codes that you can put into UNISTR calls. The file with the word "Patra" will show up in the hex editor as:
    FE FF 09 2a 09 24 09 4d 09 30
    If you can enter the characters in your HTML browser, you can use the very useful conversion page at http://rishida.net/tools/conversion/ (this is not an official endorsement from Oracle but my personal advice). Enter the characters into the "Characters" text area and click on the corresponding [Convert] button. The "Hexadecimal code points" field will tell you the codes that you need to prefix with backslash and put into the UNISTR call.
    If you are unable to enter the characters on your workstation, then you can identify each letter in the text and look it up in the Unicode character database at http://www.unicode.org/Public/UNIDATA/Index.txt or http://www.unicode.org/Public/UNIDATA/NamesList.txt. The four-digit hexadecimal codes listed there are what you are looking for. Unfortunately, such lookup will not work for Chinese Han and Japanese Kanji characters as they have no names in Unicode.
    Another method is to use files in another language-specific encoding and convert them to Unicode before loading them into the AL32UTF8 database.
