Copy and paste cells in Workbook

Hi Experts,
How to create a Workbook based on below requirements
We have a report with columns which will dynamically changed by users and in the report we are getting a value only in one of those columns
But we would like to see the same value repeated across the row for all the remaining columns as well
Is there any functionality using which we can copy the values in one particular cell across the rows of all columns
Thanks in advance. Please suggest and let me know if more information is required

May be you can reference the cells required in a column for other columns at workbook level.

  • Copy and paste cell content of web form of Hyperion Planning

    Our end users encountered performance issues in using the web forms of Hyperion Planning. We have some large web form with 60 columns and 100 rows i.e. around 6000 cells. When end user move around the cell they feel a slow response in the web form especially when copy and paste some cell content from one row to another, or a few cells from one position to other position.
    Anyone got similar experience in using web form? Also we understand that Hyperion design will check the cell content of each cell and generate a SQL query to the backend metadata database. It is quite time consuming and waste CPU resource because most of the time our end user will not keep the text information under each cell. We have consulted Oracle team and understand that we cannot disable the cell content checking via SQL query.
    Any workaround solution exists to reduce or remove the performance issue in cell content copy and paste?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    We had faced the same issue a few years ago. One of our geeks had done a change in either Enterdata.js or Enterdata.jsp which disabled form cell validation. I don't currently have the code with me but it wasn't a big change really, remarking a function could be doing the trick.
    I don't think this is officially recommended by Oracle though.
    AlpThanks for your advice. We will try to locate the enterdata.jsp and enterdata.js and found out where the SQL being executed.We found out the Enterdata.js under the deployment directory of Weblogic. However it is over 400KB size and many many lines of codes. We think that it is very difficult to locate where should be customized to remove the SQL checking on cell content.

  • I'm sure I'm missing something obvious! Copy and paste cells.

    I have a table in numbers, and wish to copy and paste some of the values (C1 to C14591), but when I select the cells I wish to copy and then choose paste in any other application (tried Textedit, Eddie, Nano etc. etc.) nothing appears. The only way I've found to copy and paste the contents of individual cells is to do them one-by-one, which will take a huge amount of time.
    I'm sure there's something obvious I've missed but as yet haven't found it!
    Please help if you know how to do this.
    Thanks.

    Hello
    The main point is that Numbers was not designed for such a huge table.
    It was designed for datas organized in smaller tables.
    In a Numbers document, everything is described in an XML file using a really verbose format.
    So, the XML file embedded in the Numbers package will be huge.
    Just a sample.
    I have scanned the internals of a Document containing one Sheet containing one table containing 180 cells
    It is made of:
    442,432 bytes for the header describing the Sheet and the table.
    41,871 bytes describing the contents of the 180 cells (230 bytes per cell).
    230,895 bytes whose contents is, at this time terrae incognita (for me)
    So I leave you as an exercise the calculations giving a rough value of the size of your future document.
    Good luck

  • Copy and paste doesn't work

    I have attempted to copy values using copy/paste. When I apply the paste nothing is put in the designated cell. I have attempted to copy titles as well and they were not pasted.
    I opened a new spreadsheet as a test and found that the copy/paste technique works on it. Why does this work on one spreadsheet and not the other? Have I turned something off or on which prevents this from working on the spreadsheet? Is there a preference that is involved?
    I am running Snow Leopard on an iMac.

    I had the same problem with a Numbers '09 SS that I got as an email attachment. I couldn't copy and paste cells, no matter what was in the cells. I couldn't move cells or groups of cells. The only thing I could do was highlight the contents of one cell and copy and paste that. But that gets old fast.
    So I tried exporting the SS as an Excel document (I don't have Excel, but it doesn't matter) and then opening it again in Numbers. It Worked!! Now I can move and copy and paste cells, columns, rows.

  • How do I copy and paste a cell AND its border?

    In Excel, I can easily select a cell or a range of cells and do a copy and paste.  Both the contents of the cells AND the borders copy to the new area.
    I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this in Numbers.  Help is useless, either in the COPY or the BORDERS area.

    Question already asked and answered several time.
    Numbers is not an Excel clone.
    It behave its own way.
    The efficient resource is not the Help but the User Guide.

  • How do I copy and paste only the text from a cell?

    Hi -
    Every time I want to move text to a different cell, copy and paste copies all styles as well.  How do I just copy and paste the text while leaving the style of the receiving cell in tact?
    Thanks.
    Chris

    Christopher.  If the alternating row color is the obstacle, I suggest selecting the table, then setting the background color to white, then check the "Alternating Row Color" check box in the Table Formatter:
    Now sorting will not affect row color

  • Is it possible to copy and paste a formula without changing the cell references?

    I am trying to paste a formula to a cell adjacent to where it currently is but when I do, the cell references in it change. I am trying to get exactly the same formula in the cell (without re-typing it).

    dedwards96 wrote:
    Just another quick question, is it possible to make a large number of cell references 'absolute'?
    Individual cell references in formulas may have four distinct states: relative, absolute column, absolute row, or absolute column and row. These are set using the popup menu on the reference itself. Click on the reference in the formula and choose one of the four states from the popup menu.
    Once set, you can fill the formula into the rest of a column or row using the Fill Handle (small circle at the lower right of a selected cell). Cell references in the new copies of the formula will remain absolute or adjst to their new position dependent on the setting for each reference. You can also copy and paste the cell (single click to select it, command-C to copy) with the same results.
    You can also copy/paste without changing the formula's cell references if you select the formula (Drag across the formula in the entry bar, copy, press tab to deselect and reconfirm the formula in the original cell) rather than the cell. Pasted into a new cell, the formula will appear as if you typed it in exactly as it was in the original cell—neither absolute references nor relative references will have changed.

  • Copy and Paste Formula from One Cell to Multiple (How?)

    I am aware of the "autofill" function by dragging the bottom-right corner of a cell containing a formula.
    However, I cannot possibly do this if I want to copy the formula and paste it into 10,000 cells.
    If I specify a range of cells to paste the copied formula - only the first cell gets it. I have seen this problem in previous iWork for a long time but am surprised Apple has not improved it (or made it obvious enough for me to get it at first sight).
    Thanks!

    Hello
    It's really boring to read several times the same comments: +When I use Autofill on formulae to copy them into empty rows I end up with little red triangles saying it isn't a valid formula. In Excel and Lotus 123 I can just use Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to copy and paste into as many cells as I want, why not Numbers?+
    Here we are not Apple employees so you are loosing your time and also the time of all of us reading your posts.
    Of course we may let them unread. But as old helpers, we always assume that when someone post something, it's to ask a question to which one of us may give a answer.
    Your flames are perfectly useless.
    If you wish that Apple take care of your opinion, go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Numbers" menu and describe your wishes.
    Happily, one poster make me laugh when he wrote that "this anomaly is a long time one in iWork".
    I really don't understand how an application which is in version 1.0 or 1.0.1 may contain a "long time" anomaly !!!!
    And the only responce I may give to all of you is: *if you can't live with this feature, stay with E…l.*

  • Numbers 3.1 - erases content of cells when using copy and paste

    I have a spreadsheet that contains formulas in every other column....  A copy and paste of the formulas on this release (delivered with Maverick) erases the content of the adjacent cells in the spreadsheet....
    In other words....  If I select cells C6, E6, G6, I6, etc.  Command C to copy, then paste these cells into  C8, E8, G8, I8, etc using Command V the software erases the content of cells D8, F8, H8, etc....   This copy and paste has worked for years and now it fails, causing me MUCH frustration since the only workaround I have found is to copy the cells one at a time.....
    Thanks for your assistance

  • Implementing Copy and Paste on JTable cells.

    Hi to all,
    Can anybody suggest as how to impose copy and paste with Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V by using keys on JTable cells.
    Thanks in advance.
    khiz_eng

    First, add a key listener to the table itself (most likely in the constructor for your table), like so:
      addKeyListener(new KeyListener()
        public void keyTyped(KeyEvent e) {}
        public void keyReleased(KeyEvent e) {}
        public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e)
          tableKeyPressed(e);
      });Next, add the code for the "tableKeyPressed" method. Here's a skeleton you can use as a starting point (obviously, the exact code to copy and paste will depend on the nature of the data you are trying to transfer).
      protected void tableKeyPressed(KeyEvent e)
        // Get selected cols and rows:
        int[] selectedRows = getSelectedRows();
        int[] selectedCols = getSelectedColumns();
        // A "copy" is signified by either ctrl+c, meta+c, or the "copy" button on a Sun keyboard.
        // Unfortunately, Java does not abstract this for us, so we have to test each of these conditions:
        if ((e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_COPY) ||
            ((e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_C) && e.isControlDown()) ||
            ((e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_C) && e.isMetaDown()))
          // Grab the cell(s) that are currently selected by using the selectedRows
          // and selectedCols arrays from above.  Then copy this data to the clipboard.
        // A "paste" is signified by either ctrl+v, meta+v, or the "paste" button on a Sun keyboard.
        // Again, Java does not abstract this for us, so each condition must be tested:
        else if ((e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_PASTE) ||
             ((e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_V) && e.isControlDown()) ||
             ((e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_V) && e.isMetaDown()))
          // Make sure there is valid data in the clipboard.
          // If so, paste it into the selected cell(s).
      }(By the way, this code assumes that you are running on a Sun machine with a Sun keyboard. If you are only targeting windows boxes, then the only key press you really need to worry about is CTRL+C. There's no harm in leaving the other keys in, though.
    Hope that helps,
    Steve

  • When I copy and paste from an online chart, some cells that had dashes or hyphens in them in the online chart paste into Numbers cells as dates, e.g., 12-13 pastes as Dec. 13, 2012.

    When I copy and paste from an online chart, some cells that had dashes or hyphens in them in the online chart paste into Numbers cells as dates, e.g., 12-13 pastes as Dec. 13, 2012.  I have tried changing the cell formats for that column from "automatic" to "text", but that doesn't fix it.  Is there a way to copy/paste this information without changing the original characters?

    If you know how many rows/columns you are planning to paste, then make the table that big BEFORE you paste.  In addition select all cells in the table by selecting any cell, then type the key combination <COMMAND>+a (for select all.
    Then use the cells inspector to make the cells formatted as text:
    I hope this helps

    IS THERE ANY METHOD IN NUMBERS TO DO THE SAME ?

    This thread provides an excellent example of the need to clarify the question before jumping in with an answer.
    There's also some misinformation in the post quoted below. The rest of this post addresses ONLY the specific post below, NOT the original question.
    Hwoodwriter wrote:
    This is annoying. A work around I found is to make the cells absolute so that the referenced cells do not move when you paste.
    I don't see this as a 'workaround,' but as the manner in which Copy Paste is designed to work. If you Cell addresses are considered as 'cell locations relative to the current cell' unless the reference is specified as being an absolute address. If you want to Copy & Paste a formula to a different cell and have the pasted formula use the same referenced cells as the original, you can select and copy the formula from the Formula Bar at the top. This copies the formula as text, which remains the same wherever you paste it.
    So if your formula refers to cell B1+B2 and you copy it and paste one cell down your formula then reads C1+C2. To keep your formula always pointed to B1 and B2 it needs to be absolute. $B$1+$B$2. This way you can copy and paste your formula without changing the reference points.
    Actually if you copy the cell containing =B1+B2, then paste it one cell right, the formula in the new cell will be =C1+C2.
                  if you copy the cell containing =B1+B2, then paste it one cell down, the formula in the new cell will be =B2+B3.
    Once copied and pasted you can go to the formula bar at the top highlight the cell reference and simply click on the cell you want referenced.
    $B$1+$B$2 highlight a cell reference then click on new cell to make formula read $B$1+C2 then change C2 to be absolute if you want.
    You will see a small arrow drop down when you cross the cell reference on the right side to change absolute or relative values. Time consuming and frustrating I know.
    Time consuming, yes. But what's consuming the time is translating the vertical movement (down) of the formula to a horizontal movement (right- from B2 to C2) of the formula's cell reference. Relative cell references move the reference in the same direction as the formula is moved.

  • Copy and Paste Multiple lines into a single cell

    Folks:
    I need to copy some plain text data into a single cell that has been merged with other cells to provider a larger unit; however, every time I copy and paste my data it gives me an error. In addition, if I paste the data into a single cell, the next line
    of data inserts into the next row.
    I understand that Alt+enter is a quick way to do what I want, but I already have the data typed out, and I do not want to type the data again.
    Example: (If possible I want in one single cell)
    Disks=32
    Total space=1.74TB
    Used space=1.20TB
    Free space=0.54TB
    Thank you!!!

    Is there any way to do this but keep the source formatting? I don't see any "Paste Special" options when you do it this way.
    That is not possible - when you copy/paste this way, you only copy the plain text, not the formatting. You'll have to apply formatting to the cell with pasted lines from scratch.
