Copy assignment structure to a new document

I lay out a biweekly newspaper and we keep a consistent layout from one week to the next.  After each issue, I duplicate and rename the original file, delete all the content and then input the new content from Word documents (my workflow does not currently incorporate InCopy).  I want to set up InCopy so that each story has its own assignment, and writers can submit stories directly into my layout.  Is there a way to not have to reassign each text box to an assignment after copying the file?  Ideally I would like to duplicate both the InDesign document and the InCopy assignment folder, and then point InDesign to a new directory.
I am using InDesign CS5.5, and InCopy CS6 on both Macs and PCs.  The InCopy files are located on a college network over which I have minimal privileges.

It is reccomended that you set up assignments for each story weekly. It can get a bit messy with linking.
I used to be the design editor at my school's newspaper and the way we set it up was as such:
Each section had its own InDesign template file that had basic geometry layed out
Every week (our paper was weekly) I would open up the .indt files and save them in a new directory on our server
Then I would make minor adjustments to geometry to match how many stories we were going to have
I would then assign InCopy assignments to each story then
I would reccomend you do the same or something similar.
PS, you shouldhave the same CS versions of InDesign and InCopy for this workflow. Either buy an older version of InCopy CS5.5 on Amazon (cheaper), or upgrade InDesign to CS6 (recommended).

    Check the spot color options of that document.

    It seems when I go to copy graphics and paste into a completly new document, the text goes wacky. It retains the font but some instances of the font are enlarged and a line that may have had 2 words on it will now have 1 word on it. - I'm finding myself having to flatten (create outlines) of text just to copy and pate samples of the artwork elsewhere.
    Any idea as to why this is happening? Any way to fix this in settings or preferences?

    Possibly, the text from the original document is applied a [Basis Paragraph] paragraph style, and the style has been modified. You copy the text into a new document and it takes on the attributes of [Basis Paragraph] of new doc, however differs from the original document.

  • How to Keep Tracking when Copying Text to New Document?

    I have about 10 Chapters of a book in separate documents with Tracking turned on (and lots of changes). I want to merge them into one larger documents and keep the tracking.
    Unfortunately, when I copy the text to the new document, I lose all the tracking changes (it copies the final version).
    Is there a way to maintain the tracking when I copy over the text?

  • Trying to save a new document and then "The file "lyrics project.pages-tef" couldn't be opened."

    As the title says...  Open Pages, Create new document, click Save, the dialog box comes up, I give it a name and select the Desktop as the destination, click OK, the dialog box disappears for about a second and then I get the above message.
    No way to save the doc.  I even copied the text, opened another new document, Renamed it and tried to save and same results.  It's a very simple document saved in Pages format, without involving iCloud so it should be as easy as it gets.  On top of that, I just want to Save.  Why is it trying to Open something???
    I ended up having to copy the text into an email and sending it to myself in order to copy it into a SimpleText file.
    Any ideas on what might have been going wrong?
    MacBook Pro 13, OSX 10.8.2, current version of Pages.

    That is the iCloud version of the document as I understand it. There is a version saved on the Net for iCloud to be shared and a local version on your hard drive. One of those is currently inaccessible.

  • Copying Folder Structure

    I have a folder structure of Months (01-January, 02-February, etc.) setup under each year folder.
    Is there a way in Aperture to create a folder structure template and copy that structure to a new folder, as the new years need to be setup?

    You can do this for Projects by setting up you Folder and Album structure in an empty Project, exporting it, and then importing it again each time you need a new copy, but not for Folder structures outside of Projects.
    But if you download the Aperture-InDesign integration examples from http://www.apple.com/applescript/aperture/indesign/ there are a couple of example scripts for creating organisational structures that you might be able to tweak.

    Hi Expert,
       I am looking for a user exit/BADI/Enhancement point which will trigger in VF01 before the new document no (Billing document no assign).
    I need to cross check few things in Billing via VF01 at billing document save and give error message accordingly. The problem is if new number assign and there is error due to my code then when user save the document next he get a new no. its mean a no skip.
    Example: The invoice no is 1000. User start creating a billing document with Vf01 and he get an error message due to my code at exit , at this point of time the next number assign to billing which is 1001 but document not save due to my error message. Now after applying correction user save data and billing document created with no 1002. So there is no skip.
    I tried BADI BADI_SD_ACCOUNTING but this will trigger after no assignment.  Can someone provide me a user exit/BADI/Enhancement point in VF01 which trigger before no range assignment and contain at least Billing header data to use in my code?

    HI Brad and team,
       BRED is right. I check few user exit normally all of us have that list or easily available on net.
    BRED: my question is: I need to check the billing date VBRK-FKDAT of document should not be less than the sales order plan billing date VBAP-Oldate.
    If this check fail then won't allow the user to create billing document. The problem is I used one user exit SDVFX001 already define previously that's work fine but issue is that user exit trigger after the billing no assignment. That's why when user get that error message he correct the document and create billing this time he get a new number which is skip of one no.
    That why I need a User Exit/BADI/Enhancement Point  which trigger at save but before document no assignment.
    Please update more about your comment "Why not use a header level copy requirement routine to perform the checks and log the messages? This is the standard process."  .
    Suggest user exit USEREXIT_FILL_VBRK_VBRP  trigger before save. I need at save the reason is VBRK-FKDAT  this can be change.

  • MS Word: This file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, and give the document a new name in the save dialog box.

    This is not a question. I believe I've found a new issue and the fix for it.
    The situation:
    A brand new iMac 27" running Yosemite 10.10.1
    MacMini server running 10.8.5 server.
    The issue:
    Client on iMac trying to work on MS Word documents stored on server was requiring him to save the documents to his desktop and then copy them back to the folder on the server. The exact error message was, "This file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, and give the document a new name in the save dialog box."
    The issue is unique to this computer in an office of 10 client computers and three servers.
    Attempted fixes:
    Verified that the ".Temporaryitems" folder existed and the permissions were set properly.
    Repaired permissions on the client and the network share.
    Definitive fix:
    By default, Yosemite 10.10.1 uses SMB for connecting file shares. When I overrode the default and switched to AFP protocol, the issue went away.
    I hope this helps someone else.

    That was it. What an operating system. It is very helpful to view files you are looking for. But if you have preview on you cannot save files.

  • How do I stop fonts from changing when I drag/copy a text box to a new document?

    I am using Mac OS X version 10.7.5 with CS6 version 8.0. When I create an ad in indesign and copy it or drag it onto another page (the finished layout page for a newspaper) Some of the fonts that are enabled in my suitcase, show as if they are not found when dragged to the new document. When i use "find font" and replace the "missing" font with the exact same one it was built with (in the other document) it comes in slightly different, and needs some adjusting. I deal with many ads and bringing them together to build many collective pages. How can I transfer my individual ad pages to my collective layout pages without having issues with font? I would like to still be able to edit the ad on the (collective) page, so placing a PDF or ID doc is not an option.
    Please help! this is slowing down production and proving very frustrating!

    Do you use styles in these ads? Same named styles inthe receiving document with different definitions (or same named styles with differnt defintions used as the basis for other styles) can cause this. Another possibility is moving an element from a file saved in a previous version of ID into a newer version document. Legacy text frames are not recomposed until you try to edit them.

  • Copy & paste to new document doesn't preserve World Ready attributes

    I am running ID CS 2014 under Windows 7.
    I have 2 documents and am copying and pasting text from one to the other. Both have paragraph & character styles with identical names but different definitions. I want the pasted text to retain the styles from the original document with the new attributes applied which normally works perfectly. Both of these documents contain spot Hebrew text within English text, so all styles are set up to use the World Ready Composer.
    What is happening is that when I paste the copied text into the second document (this is totally English text), it is behaving like Hebrew text in that it selects from right to left instead of from right to left, and punctuation is at the beginning of the line instead of the end of the line. Checking the settings for that document, the World Ready Composer is on and the keyboard and character direction both are set to "default" which is correct.
    What I see is happening is that when it is pasted, in the paragraph style under indents in spacing, the paragraph direction changes to right-to-left (when the originating document and the new document both have the style set to left-to-right).
    As I have a lot of such text to copy and paste, it is pain each time to redefine the paragraph style. How can I prevent this from happening?

    What you are seeing is expected behavior-- pasted text with a style will always pick up style definitions from the document you are pasting into.
    You can fix this quickly by creating style groups in one of your documents. You could collect all the styles in the Hebrew document into a folder called Hebrew. (Do this for the Paragraph styles and the Paragraph Styles).
    This way, the new document will view them as new styles, and not change the formatting.

    Hi Kunal,
    normally you cannot just change the document type for a document info record. So you have to create a new document info record of type Z09 and maintain the same data for it in transaction CV01N. Since this new document info record is created you can delete the older wrong document info record which is no longer used.
    Another possibility could be to use a DMS BAPI sequence. Here you can read out the whole data with BAPI_DOCUMENT_GETDETAIL2 from the initial document info record. Then you can hand over this data to BAPI_DOCUMENT_CREATE2 and change just the document type to Z09. At the end execute BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT to create the new document info record in your database tables. Afterwards you should be able to see the new document in transaction CV03N as well with the same data.

    Basically i have created a new cutfile generator for a Zund cutting machine we have here at work i have got it to the point where i can create a Registration mark layer and Cut layer now i would like to save this as a layered PDF as this is how the cutter software prefers it. What i would like to know is how with Javascript can I copy the contents of "Regmark" layer and "Cut" layer to a dynamically created new document ? Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated thanks so much !

  • How do I copy Mailboxes from Tiger to new Lion. Library/Mail structure different

    My old machine running Tiger 10.4 and Mail 2.1.3 has Library/Mail/Mailboxes with "other stuff" such as Envelope Index, Message rules.plist,  etc, also in Mail. The usual advice is to copy the whole of Mail and Preferences to the "same place"  on the new machine. But if  running Lion/Mail 5.1.  the "place" is not the "same".
       The new structure is Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes with the "other stuff" in a folder MailData which is also in V2. So does one have to copy old Mailboxes only into new Mailboxes and then the old "other stuff" into new MailData, which itself has different  "other stuff" from the old. In other words does the usual straightforward procedure not apply with Lion/Mail5.1 ?

    You are correct Setup and Migration are an all or nothing affair, if you choose applications for example it will migrate ALL the apps from your old computer to the new one. The one thing it's smart about is if it "sees" a newer version of an App (let's say iPhoto for example) it will not migrate an older version of iPhoto to the new system.
    If the old system has a Firewire connection you can connect the two computer with a cable like this one from Amazon. Then you can start in Target Mode and manually move files and other data. You can find out how to start in Target Mode from http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661

What I need to do is search through a PSD, find any text objects that are in a specific font, and if they match, copy them to a new document. Can anyone help me with this?     In order to create a document type for a purchase requisition  use the path
    spro-materials management - purchasing--purchase requisitions --define  document type
    in that screen you select the document type you want to copy to create your document type and perform the action.
    if you want to change the screen/field selection for your document type select the field selection key (if you select the document type as NBB the field selection key will be NBB.,and go to the screen and change the field status.
    Hope this will be suffient for your requirement.
