Copy folder across network to network sharepoint

I want to set up a crontab or even a script crontab can run to
create a folder with date and name of computer and transfer
a folder with files in it to the server where the sharepoints are located.
Also, what about authentication? I can set up a user with no password, but how would the script or crontab be set for a specific username and/or password?
I know how to create the folders and have used the cp command.
I am very unsure on how to setup a way to transfer the files to a share point across network.
Any ideas?

I use it to copy a folder from one server to another as a kind of off-site backup strategy.

  • Copying Document Across Site Collections to Dynamic Locations - Office 365 / SharePoint

I have users uploading documents into a library in one site collection and adding a reference number to each file (text box - list item). Can I use that reference number to find a corresponding folder on a different site collection and programmatically
copy the file to that location? The reference number is part of the name of the folder. SharePoint Designer, Visual Studio, Napa - whichever is easiest. Using Office 365 / SharePoint Online.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
If the reference number plus with the file name is valid and unique, we will be able to find the wanted folder across site collections by querying this file and its parent folder.
As the reference number + file name is just a string value of a column of a library, we may need to iterate through all the libraries and check whether there is such a file with
    CAML query statements.

  • ITunes Media folder organization on a network drive

I have a problem with a strange behaviour of iTunes media folder organization on my network drive.
Option "keep iTunes Media folder organized" is enabled.
If the Media folder is on a local drive or the Media folder is replaced by an alias pointing to a folder on an external drive it works correctly.
(Correctly means subfolders like "music" are generated by iTunes.)
But if the Media folder is an alias that points to a networkdrive directly (instead of pointing to a folder in that drive) iTunes does not create the subfolders anymore.
What is the reason for that behaviour, how can it be fixed?

Thanks for the feedback, but with the iPhone (I use the calendar feature a lot), synchronising just became a very common event, and perpetual re-connecting will drive me insane.

  • Working with iTunes Music Folder locations on a network drive in Vista

I am having challenges assigning the "iTunes music folder location" to a network drive in Vista (using iTunes v.7.3). When I go to Edit/Preferences/Advanced/General, and choose change to assign the path, the Networks folder comes up, but does not display any network drives or expand out when I select it. Right clicking does let me explore the drives and see them so the ntwork is good. I did have the same problem in Windows XP, but since Windows XP created those automatic shortcuts to drives, I could assign them and that worked.
A quick solution is to map a network drive and then select that drive, but since my computer is a notebook and off my home LAN frequently, the mapped drive really slows the boot process.
Can't seem to find anything to change in the registry.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there anyone who can offer any suggestion to smooth this issue for me?
    Thanks
    Andre

  • Leopard iMacs don't function in home network folder - only in "My Network"

Since upgrading two of our iMacs to Leopard, in Finder, the iMacs appear in both "Chris's" (our home network name), and in the generic "My Network" folders.
However, when I want to connect to the iMacs in the proper network (Chris's) I get the infuriating "...fix alias" garbage. Only by selecting the iMacs in "My Network" can I make a connection. Why? Is Leopard, even now, still behaving like a Beta product?
I want all of our Macs in the same folder, on the same network, accessible in the same folder. Just like it was in Tiger.
How do I do that? Or should I just revert to Tiger?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Cheers
    Chris

Well, I tried to post a screenshot but obviously cannot on this forum (!!!!!!!)
On all of my Tiger computers here, Finder's column to the far left has the Grey network Icon. Click on that, and column 2 has:
    Library (Document icon)
    My Network (Blue folder icon)
Reynolds (Blue folder icon - our actual named network at home)
    Servers (network 'globe' icon)
I have had the 'My Network' icon since I installed Leopard on one iMac. I do not have any servers, this is purely a home network, I have no Windows PCs on the network, and the network is managed by a regular Apple Airport (n) Extreme Base Station.
This isn't life threatening. It's just an annoyance that normally is associated with Windows networking. But it isn't Windows, it's all Apple. I haven't created 'My Network' - Apple's equipment here has.
If it's just a stupidly bad designed element of OS X then I'll try to forget about it. It's just inexplicable and over-complicating an already complicated technology.
    Thanks for your interest.

  • Print Sharing across a wireless network.

    Hello fellow Macsters,
I am trying to share my HP printer across my wireless network. here is my network setup. I have a wireless network throughout my house. an iMac 20'' desklamp without an airport card is connected to a belkin router via an ethernet cord. That router creates my wireless network, allowing my iBook G4 to conenct to it wirelessly. The wireless signal is continued by an AX in WDS bridge mode, on the second floor of my house. Currently, I can share the printer connected to the iMac, but only when the iMac is on. I would like to be able to share it without leaving the computer on. I know there are multiple ways to do it, but do not know the specifics of them. Could somebody please tell me what they are. Thank you very much.

Well if its a non network HP printer it will have to be a AEBS. HP dosent make network operable drivers for thier non-network ready printers s and thos eprinters tend to only be PCL and not PostSCript. Since all the network print protocols on the mac rely on PS youre out of liuck unless its connected directly to MAC hardware.
If youre geeky and feeling ambitious you can probably finde a driver/ppd withh the support you need on linuxprinting.org but good luck trying to get it to work properly. I tried without success for a week to get our HP3500CLat work to work over any network protocol i could get my hands on with no luck. if you (or anyone else reading this) fares better please let me know...

  • Sharing across a wireless network

Is there an easy way, other than mobile me, to share my calendar on my iMac with my kid's macbooks across our wireless network?

    1. You could install OSX server on your iMac
    2. You could install Apple Remote Desktop

  • Difficulty sharing folders across home wireless network

Can anyone tell me how to set sharing permissions so that when I share a folder on my home network, all the sub-folders and files are also made accessible? As it stands, sharing a folder does not change the sharing permissions of the sub-folders and files contained within it. If I have to manually set the sharing permission of every single document I want to share, it's going to mean a ton of work!

  • Could malware spread across our wireless network?

Hello, I need a bit of help. A scammer posing as a Norton employee got access to our MacBook Pro via LogMeIn Rescue for a few minutes before one of our family members forced shutdown. He had ample time to install a bouquet of malware, but Sophos isn't detecting any. Just to be safe, it seems like the best bet for this computer is to reinstall OSX after backing up any necessary files.
What I want to know is, could malware from this attack have spread across our wireless network to our other devices? Our laptops, desktops, phones, etc... On the targetted computer, System Preferences > Sharing shows only Printer Sharing enabled, not Web Sharing, Remote Login, Internet Sharing, or anything else. Is that a good sign? Or could an attacker have leapt from our wireless printer to another computer?
I am more than happy to provide you with any other details--just let me know. Thank you for your help.

Most of the anti-malware packages for the Mac do not detect anything.  All that would be needed is to add an account or launchd .plist to run some software that gives them future access.
You cannot trust that system any longer.
So yes save essential files, erase, and install from scratch, including all applications.  Only restore data files.
Unless that Mac had administrator access to the other Macs without needing to authenticate, it is unlikely they could have spread anything to other Apple devices in your home.  Which is one of the reasons anti-malware packages do not find a lot of malware on Macs.  They tend not to get any via the network.
Social Engineering, such as what happened to you, or getting someone to download and install something with an admin password, is the more common way bad stuff gets into a Mac.
So I would not worry about the other Macs in the house, but do a wipe of the attacked Mac.
    Sorry for your loss.

  • Anyone know of a good IOS app that can play all media files across a home network, file share on a NAS or Windows PC??

anyone know of a good IOS app that can play all media files, MKV, AVI, Xvid with subtitles across a home network, file share on a NAS or Windows PC?? I know I have BS player free for android, works pretty good on my nexus tablet.  is there a good IOS one that anyone can think of that can browse the network?
or do I have to run transcoders?
I store some files on the windows PC and some files on a linux NAS that the windows PC maps to

    I'm sorry to hear that.
I'm not affiliated w/ the developer, just a happy user that gave up fighting the apple podcast app a while ago.  I used to have a bunch of smart playlists in itunes for my podcasts, and come home every day and pathologically synced my phone as soon as I walked in the door, and again before I walked out the door in the morning.
Since my wife was doing this too, we were fighting over who's turn it was to sync their phone.
Since I've switched to Downcast, I no longer worry about syncing my phone to itunes at all.  I can go weeks between syncs.
Setup a "playlist" in downcast (ex., "Commute") and add podcasts to that playlist.  Add another playlist ("walk" or "workout") and add different podcasts to that one.
Set podcast priorities on a per-feed basis (ex., high priority for some daily news feeds, medium priority for some favorite podcasts, lower priority for other stuff).  Downcast will play the things in the priority you specify, and within that priority, it will play in date order (oldest to newest).
Allegedly, it will also sync your play status to other devices, although that is not a feature I currently use and can't vouch for.  It uses apple's iCloud APIs, so to some extent may be limited by what Apple's APIs can do.

  • Copied folder smaller than the original one

Hi, when I copy my folder of Logic song material (size approx. 4,55 GB, located on the desk) to an external Harddisk (WD ´my book´, I guess Fat32, brandnew and not formatted under OS X) or via my inhouse network (on a windows PC with NTFS), the copied folder is smaller than the original one - approx. 4,2 or 4,3 GB then.
Is that normal or are files lost during the copying? I need help with this urgently, because I have to do the backup.
My system: PowerMac G5 Dual, 2,5 GHz, 3 GB RAM, Tiger (newest version), nothing special.
    Thank you für your help,
    PE

    Philip
Is that normal or are files lost during the copying? I need help with this urgently, because I have to do the backup.Copying can certainly reduce the space taken, because fragmentation is reduced.
If you want a one off count of your folder, you can do this:
Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and type
cdNow type a space, and then drag the folder you are interested in to the Terminal window. It will fill in the path automatically, so you will see something like
cd /Users/jdoe/Documentsfor example. Now type a return, and then copy and paste the following, as one line, into the Terminal window:
    <pre>echo "`find . -type f \! -name ".*" | wc -l` files and `find . -type d | wc -l` folders"</pre>Now press return, and wait!
As an indication, for my Home folder it takes about 35 seconds on a 600MHz iBook (slow drives in these laptops) to tell me I have 16631 files and 3920 folders. The command does not count dotfiles, such as ".DS_Store", deliberately, so there may be small discrepancies.

  • Lost all my network adapters - network icon is X'ed out but still online

Win7 x64 - little backstory to explain how i got here...
This was a vista machine that i upgraded to win7. Everything worked after the upgrade except for hamachi (version 1). I did a reinstall of that and it fixed it, except i had 2 hamachi network interfaces listed in device manager, one of which was showing up as broken (yellow exclamation mark). Since everything was working i left it alone.
Fast forward to today - i tried to upgrade hamachi to hamachi 2. Seemed to work ok but i couldn't connect to any peers. Looking into it it said the hamachi adapter was faulty and looking at my network connections there was no hamachi adapter listed.
I opened device manager and there was just one hamachi nic listed and it was the broken one. I selected uninstall - checked the box to remove the driver and it uninstalled.
I then manually installed another instance of the hamachi network adapter. Hamachi still cant connect to peers - same error msg about the network adapter.
Only now, ALL of my network adapters are missing in the network connections folder. And the network status icon in the status tray is showing a red X as though it's not connected, even though this PC is online (i'm connecting to it through RDP).
I've already tried rebooting - no effect. So any ideas where all my network connections/adapters went and how to get this all sorted?
One more piece of info - if i right click on the network icon in the status tray and select troubleshoot, having another problem, specific adapter - on that screen it then lists 3 network adapters. Tried letting it diagnose all of them but no effect.
And if i open the network connections folder and go to help, advanced options, i get an 'unexpected error'

    Hi,
This issue can occur by incompatible NIC driver or corrupted files. I suggest you try the following steps.
    1. Uninstall the NIC driver and reinstall the driver for Windows Vista or Windows 7 in Compatibility Mode.
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode with Networking and check the result.
If there is any error message, please capture and upload it for research.
    Thanks,
    Novak

  • Copying folder options

when copying folder to another drive for backup.. why let me get halfway through an operation before telling me the folder name exists somewhere in the structure and then the ONLY option is to cancel the copy half way through.
its annoying that upper/lower differences cause copying errors, but not the end of the world.
its is extremely frustrating to have no other option than to click 'okay' and have the whole operation abort halfway through. I had selected 1.5 TB of information to back up across many nested folders. Now that the operation has cancelled i have to manually delve into the folders to find which ones finished copying. and to find where the duplicate folder exists.
This copy operation was many hours in. and to restart this is a big waste of my time.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
{ diskutil list; echo; diskutil cs list; } | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme? My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured" and my AirPort tool on my PC will not permit me to add my new Airport Extreme network (no network names to choose from)

How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme?
I have a PC running with Win7 and just replaced my Jensen With a brand New Airport Extreme.
I have set up the Airport Extreme to the internet, Iphones and Ipads and it work as it should.
I have downloaded latest Version of Airport tool on my PC. In addition i have downloaded the airport tool for Ipad.
I have reset one of my airport Express and it now shows up both on the Ipad and on the PC airport tool.
My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured."
I have wired the airport Express to my Ethernet to be able to "see it" on my Airport tool.
My AirPort tool on the PC will not permit me to add the airport Express to my new Airport Extreme network (no network names on the drop-down list to choose from). I wished for an easy set-up, but nothing seems to be plug and play as the Commercial says.. can you please help me?
    Sigve

    Hi
    Thanks for Swift reply.
Yep - I in fact have two A1088 and one A1264
I actually bought the new router because the Jensen
router always lost connection to the Airport Express after some hours or days. I
always needed to restart my Jensen to play music and that was driving my wife
mad. The hope was that the Extreme should fix this. Both A1088 have been set up
to only stream music to two of my stereo amplifiers from my PC’s Itunes library.
    Are the A1088 now useless?
The A1264 has been set up to feed internet into a Denon Reciever that needed Ethernet cable.
    Please advise

  • Excel Spreadsheet as Data Source & Copying that Data to an Existing SharePoint List

    Hello,
I have an Excel spreadsheet that I get daily and cut and paste into an existing SharePoint list. Is there a way to make that Excel spreadsheet a data source and copy the data to an existing SharePoint list with less manual involvement?
Tools at my disposal include: SharePoint 2010 Designer, InfoPath, and Access.
I thought there might be a REST method I could use via InfoPath but I'm not aware of any offhand.
Goal is to have a method to upload/overwrite an Excel file (stored in a SharePoint library), every day, and then automate the process of copy it to a SharePoint list (actually overwriting the old data in the SharePoint list).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
We can create a console application and use C# code to read the data from the Excel file and using SharePoint .Net Client Object Model to add the data into a SharePoint list, then create a windows job to execute the console application.
